Service is okay, food is good but lack of preparation makes the experience bad. I ordered tortilla soup and combo platter. My guest ordered steak fajitas. I had to ask about the status of the soup on the second request for water for the table as we waited on drinks. Soup never came and was charged, but server removed when we had to take our check to the bar to pay as waiting 10 minutes was too long. Fajitas came out with NO tortillas, we had to ask. No plate, even after second time. Chunks of steak were huge and had to ask for a knife to cut. By that time the cast iron skillet and cooled down so could not even slightly sear the steak. Moments later my order came. Combo plater was good, but obviously tacos have been sitting out so they were barely warm. I asked for hot sauce, they pointed at the chips and salsa and brought more chips. Mind you, the servers spoke both English and Spanish, and we asked in both languages. Not a good experience, I would not return. Overall 6/10

Delicious food and amazing service

Don Maguey is a cozy little place with a lot of authentic mexican flavors, the salsas, the chips, and each dish I’ve tried are truly mexican. This is the first place I know that serves “Tlayudas”, a thin tortilla toast the size of a pizza with many toppings. There are good reviews for the “Enmoladas” that I still have to try. I will definitely will go back.

Here’s the story. I am Mexican born and moved to Miami from Texas so Mexican food has always been around me. However in Miami I find it to be a mission always to find a Mexican restaurant that actually tastes like a Mexican restaurant not one that just looks like it. I came and tried very specific dishes and let me tell you I am in disbelief on how good this place is I wish I could rate this higher than 5 stars because the restaurant absolutely deserves it. Try the torta ahogada you will not be disappointed it was the best thing I’ve ate this year also the mole poblano is so authentic you’re going to walk out speaking in Spanish. Absolutely would recommend to anyone that’s looking for authentic Mexican cuisine if you like spicy you will find it here. I will become a regular the only thing I wish was that I came sooner.

As a Mexican I can say that the food is authentically Mexican, very tasty and the portions are generous. The place is small but well decorated with a Mexican atmosphere.

Easily the best Mexican food in South Florida, the entire staff is friendly and the atmosphere is wonderful. The owner himself even came out to shake our hands and ask if we needed anything. All in all a wonderful establishment ran by wonderful people. Would give it 10 stars if I could and would definitely recommend checking it out.

Came on Labor Day with a party of 8. Like any great restaurant , of course we had to wait. The wait was well worth it. Our waitress Kelly was phenomenal, had great recommendations and checked on our table regularly to make sure we were taken care of. I do recommend coming earlier than closing time since we did see a few other parties being turned away. This is expected when the focus of a restaurant is to deliver a high quality meal. Everything we had was amazing- Tacos, queso fundido, Quac, mole, steak, and drinks! We cannot wait to come back and try the Birria which was sold out and short rib. This hidden gem is our new Favorite Mexican in town. Even better than the higher end places in the Gables.

Wow, the first impression is what matters You saw this place on a recommendation and an employee at the door said that the owner was not accepting more views until 2 hours later nor did they let you sign up for the waiting list, the employee was not friendly at all nor did he give an explanation but that They were very full and the waiting time was 2 hours and they were not registering what a disappointment, they do not value the customer

Camila the waitress was so rude and unprofessional. Taylor the hostess was such a sweetheart to us. He tried to make Camila”s attitude for us. The food was delicious it takes long to get the food but it’s worth the wait.

It was raining and when I was going to enter the establishment to consume, they put a sign practically in my face that they were closed when here on Google they have to close at 9pm and I arrived at 7:20pm I thought it was rude, I came with the best of vibes to consume since I have heard a lot that the food is good but with that lack of respect, we were also the only ones outside, me and my friend.

The food was very good, the mix of flavors was appropriate. The portions were adequate and generous. The presentation of the dishes improves the atmosphere and the expectation of a good plate of Mexican food. On the other hand, and as constructive criticism: the chips were cold, chewy and oily (twice). The beers were warm.

The service was impeccable, with friendly staff attentive to every detail, Maria Jose attended to us. The food, authentic and delicious. Long waiting time, go early.

My experience at this restaurant was quite concerning, especially after seeing so many good reviews and posts on Instagram that made me have high expectations. To start, I had to wait an hour to get in. Once inside, after another long wait, they finally took our order. They brought us drinks and corn, but after waiting another half hour, the rest of the food never arrived. What bothers me most is that the waiter did not give any explanation or apologize for the delay. I ended up canceling the order. The only thing I had a chance to try was the elotes, which actually tasted good. However, it is a real shame, especially because of the love I feel for Mexican cuisine and culture; I expected much more from this place. 😞

You enter Mexico through Flagler St, from the fresh passion fruit water you already know that you are going to eat the most delicious thing about Mexican culture. I would always come back.

Unfortunately I contacted the number on Instagram and the owner showed his true colors. I've been a regular as well as my family, but I will not be a regular any further. As a matter of fact he asked that I Google number to restaurant and no one answered. Again food here is amazing and not sure what happened to customer service today but my money us green, he lacked all the luster

Came from an instagram review and was expecting the best mole according to reviews. The mole tasted like it came from a bottle. They dont have enough waiters so the service is slow, and had to walk to the bar to get someone to look ar us. Had to ask 3 times to get the bill. Over priced for what it is. If you going to charge 18% service fee I expect good service. Wont come again.

The place is not bad, the decoration is very pretty but there are always its details. We had to sit at a table with all the dirty dishes and we ourselves had to put them aside more than 30 minutes before the food arrived and the truth is that it was not good at all and for him In the end we ordered some churros and it took 25 minutes to arrive, a churro broken into 4 small pieces, the truth is that they did not meet my expectations, I do not recommend it at all first and last time

First time here, the food was delicious. I got the chicken quesadilla. The chicken was juicy, the quesadilla was stuffed with a good ratio of chicken and cheese. I also ordered the margarita, it was very good. Overall I had a great experience. My margarita cup was chipped along the edge, which I had requested to do a sugar rim. Luckily I didn't cut my tongue on it. Also noticed in the bill they add the gratuity automatically and charge an extra 3% if you use a card. Just beware when it comes to the bill. Bathrooms are nice and clean. The restaurant has nice decorations.

They were acceptable. Be prepared to wait a long time for service. I may return to this place, just to try the enmoladas.

As they say don't judge a book by its cover, this restaurant is in a little strip mall but very adorable on the inside. Quaint and simple, the service was alittle slow but to be expected in a busy little restaurant. Margaritas were very good and the salsa was certainly a step above many mexican restaurants, here in the united states. Everything that we ate was good and I would recommend checking out if your in Miami.

Fantastic food. Parking is tight and the dining room is small but the food was delicious. However, they do charge $3,50 for a 12 ounce can of coke.

I had high expectations for this place, but the service was super slow... Ordered and Agua Chile, which tasted like pure lemon. The tacos were decent 6/10, both tortillas ripped and ended up eating with a fork (mind me, I ate them immediately as I got them) our waitress never came and cleaned our table of old plates., rather she began cleaning after I requested the ticket instead of charging of taking out payment. If you are looking for tacos, there are much better places with faster service and tacos that won't break apart. Hijole taqueria and no manches que Rico.. ( I think k those are the correct names), but overall, I wouldn't recommend this place. Not for tacos or dine in at least. Oh yeah, and the place was not busy either. 3 tables counting us and 2 waiters.. It is not authentic Mexican either, although it is close, better than taco bell

Food was delicious! The ambience was perfectly on point. The wait staff was absolutely incredible and accomodating to any needs. Definitely a must try if you like this type of cuisine!!

I don’t even know where to begin. I have heard about Don Maguey via social media so a friend and I decided to go for lunch. We ordered sopes de carne asada, aguachiles des camarón, short rib tacos, enchiladas suizas des res and a tres leches for dessert. I had a michelada while my friend had an horchata. This meal was A1 from start to finish. The sopes were flavorful, the shrimp in the aguachiles were so tender they melted in your mouth. The sauce was sooooooooo good I could have drank it. The short rib tacos were to die for and the enchiladas suizas were also melt in your mouth. My friend and I were in complete shock, the tres leches was the icing on cake. We weren’t served a single bad plate of food. The service was amazing, this is a family owned business and Angelica was extremely helpful, her recommendations were spot on and her attention to every table was impeccable. This place was FIREEEEE! 10/10 recommend!

We were not very impressed by the outside look (and tempted to walk away). Do not get turned down by that. Walk in. You will have a great experience.

Went to Don Maguey looking for authentic Mexican food, not “gabacho” grub and found the real deal, establishment just like if it was in Querétaro, service we had a cute waitress that from the beginning made us feel like family and explained the foods and beverages, had a “real michelada and orchata” and the food came out in an amazing presentation, taste was “perfecto” and will have to add that we WILL be back.

One of the best Elotes I have ever had. My friend dreams of the Mole😂 We were greeted my the friendly staff immediately after stepping foot inside. The decor is so cute. We even spoke to the cook while dining. I can’t wait to go back… I literally want to drive the 5 hours just to eat there again!

We took a trip to Miami for my son’s birthday. He randomly picked this restaurant because of the reviews. I must say we had the best tacos EVER here. The food was so good that we requested to meet the chef. He came out and was so nice. He even gave us a sample of their Short Rib tacos and OMG!!! The flavor was insane!! I hardly ever leave reviews but this experience was worthy enough to do so!!!

It has truly been a pleasant surprise to find a place like this in a city where banal trends have destroyed the essentials of life, which is doing things with the heart. You roll up to this place, part of a small strip mall, noticing the retractable gates that can cover the business and you think to yourself "did the wife really pick the right place, or am I getting mugged?" Turns out the place has fantastic food. It's a small place, and one of those games where the players can only kick a ball and if they barely touch each other one or both put on a Shakespearean death scene performance was playing on the two small TVs, but this didn't distract us from enjoying the food. And if you have kids, this is quite possibly the best chicken tenders/nuggets they've ever had. We stopped the friendly waitress and had to ask for the secret - they make them in house and not the frozen kind from the typical restaurant supplier like almost all other places do it. Juicy, with a hint of non-picante (non-spicy for some of you) seasoning and perfectly crunchy breading that isn't too thick. Being skeptical of most thing, this place is for sure a book not to be judged by the cover.

Easily some of the best tacos I've ever had, and that's saying a lot, as I have high standards. The staff was friendly, attentive, and courteous. The food was incredible. I'm genuinely sad that I don't live closer because these tacos are life changing. Get the "Tacos de Costra De Asada" You won't regret it.

Honestly, I had never eaten Mexican food so faithful to its origins, the place is located on a street known to everyone, its park is small and full but it was a reflection of the public they had inside, the decoration with typical colors of Mexican culture, If my comment can help anything, it would be very favorable to the environment, the reproduction of only Mexican music (i’m not being a faithful defender of the style) but only for purposes of the atmosphere, the food, simply impeccable, highly recommended the Quesabirrias, The Michelada drinks would be a crime to go and not try it. This place is amazing. Great service and atmosphere. Parking is a little tight, but it’s worth it. Absolutely the best Mole I’ve ever had. The chef himself came to the table and spoke to us about his process. I’d drive some distance just to have the Enmolada again. Epic

The food is very good, almost authentic I would dare say, but as for the service it bothers me, since at the beginning in the menu they have a price and when they give you the bill they change the price so that you pay more, in the end we realized and we discussed it with the owner and instead of admitting the error and rectifying the bill instantly he wanted to make us dizzy with an endless number of “justifications” and then tell us that we were wrong and we should pay 20 for a 12 processed cheese. By the way, the cheese costs 12 and they charged us 14, they added a charge of 6 plus “3%” credit card surcharge, incredible!

I've been looking for a true authentic Mexican restaurant for years. This place passed all expectations. We were greeted when we walked in. Our food and drinks were at the table in less than 20 mins.

It looked like an authentic Mexican restaurant with good reviews. However the service was super slow, we waited 1 hour to get 3 tacos which were a bit dry. Do you a favour and rather go to 5 mins to Miracle Mike and Giralda Avenue, you will find nicer Mexican restaurants with better food, lower prices and nicer atmosphere

I was greatly surprised. Everything is delicious, authentic Mexican food. It is not noticeable from the outside but inside the decoration is very nice. The attention of the owners is extremely friendly and dedicated. Without a doubt I recommend it. And I will return on future trips.

The food is very traditional from Mexico, a variety of dishes, perhaps it needs to enhance its sauces and dishes a little more in flavor, I think that getting closer to its Salt Point would balance and highlight the flavors more which would make them much better, the The atmosphere is very nice and the attention is 10.

I’ve discovered this spot by accident and didn’t have high hopes initially because of the location, but the staff was very pleasant and the food was delicious. I ordered my favorite Mexican dish, chile relleno, but they didn’t have it that day. I ordered the chicken mole and was pleasantly surprised, delicious. The second visit the chile relleno was available and it did not disappoint. Nice place, the chef even came to my table and asked me how everything was. I told him delicious.
