This place is great. The food is perfect and there are pool tables, recliners, a karaoke stage, old arcade games!!

I enjoyed my dining experience. When I walked in, JB greeted me and was very personable. After inquiring, he gave his opinion on what I should order. Furthermore, he showed me the different rooms they had for their customers to enjoy (lounge, karaoke, game room, outdoor seating). Originally, I was going to order takeout, but JB persuaded me to dine in. The food was very very very good. The steak was seasoned perfectly, big, juicy, and tender. It was cooked over Hickory wood. This combination placed this steak in my top 3 of best steaks ever. I also recommend the ‘smokey beans’. It contained pieces of smoked meat and did not have excessive juice, an aspect I loved. In all, considering the quality of the food, the dining atmosphere, and customer service, this experience is in my top 3 of all time. I now am a customer of “The Smoky Pit”!!! T•

This is a hidden gem 💎 of a restaurant. Indicative of a truly great smokehouse, the menu is only limited to what they haven't run out of yet. The smoked whole catfish is a must try for anyone who likes to eat fish. The flavor is infused all the way through the meat of the fish.... AWESOME. Our party also tried the ribs, fall off the bone tender with a great bark. The multiple types of smoked sausage were delicious as well....served with a bbq sauce that is tasty, yet doesn't overpower the flavor of the food. For sides, I tried the green beans and smokey beans (which is their baked beans with smoked angus beef patties chopped up in it) the flavors of both were so wonderfully seasoned....a hard to find quality at restaurants these days. I can't wait to return to try other offerings. As if the food wasn't enough to keep you coming back for more. The atmosphere of The Smokey Pit is one of a laid back blues club. There's old time blues and jazz music in the background, soft lighting, and a relaxed vibe. The service is like being at a friend's house....no one is too busy to help you. Since the food is quality and takes time to get to the table, there are things to occupy your time....things like pool tables, darts, juke boxes, 8 track player, ol' school video games (think space invaders, galaga) This is definitely a place I will return to when in the Baton Rouge area. I finally made my way over to this place. The food was really good and the atmosphere was much more than I expected. It has a great setup to just go hang and relax, listen to music, enjoy drinks, eat and shoot pool. I can't wait to go back for happy hour drinks and to try the smoked nachos! Oh, and the manager JB was awesome!

Food was very good tried pull pork, beef rib,and nachos everything was good owner was very attentive and friendly as well best smoke bbq I've had so far.

We happened upon this place when we were in the area and looking for dinner. BBQ sounded good so we popped in. Nestled in what we thought was an industrial area is a hidden gem. The smell from the parking lot told us we were in for a treat. Highly recommend the pulled pork and the brisket and the smokey beans and the mac and cheese and ... well you get the idea. Pretty much everything on the menu is worth trying. We got the BBQ sauce but to be honest, the meat was far more flavorful and didn't need the sauce. Definitely go for the smokey beans over the baked beans. Don't forget the entertainment. We arrived on karaoke night (every other Friday). Go give JB and The Smokey Pit some love!

One of Baton Rouge's hidden gems. If you love smokey bbq that does not require bbq sauce to give it flavor, this is the place for you. It's perfectly smoked and seasoned. I've had the leg quarter, whole catfish, salmon, jumbo wings, brisket, sausage, pork ribs, and rib tips and all were excellent. For sides, try the smoked sweet potato, jambalaya or smokey beans. The owner is extremely nice and the atmosphere is very laid back with pool tables and love jazz or karaoke on Friday nights. Check this place out. The food won't disappoint

I'm so glad I learned about this place! I wish I could give more than 5 stars because my entire experience was awesome! The food & the customer service are stellar. I look forward to visiting one weekend for live jazz. And of course the food. Brisket, yes please! 😋

They stayed open for us after closing and gave us extra free food! Food was great and it was good to taste a good BBQ!

My favorite BBQ spot in Baton Rouge that I make an excuse to eat at every time I’m in town. Friendly staff, good ambiance, but the food is amazing. Brisket is fire and sides are delicious but the chicken quarter is something extra special. I typically don’t mix meats when I eat bbq but I make another excuse to do it when I eat here!

The BBQ is the best in Baton Rouge and I would venture to say in Louisiana. Had a taste of most meats, the Beef Ribs cannot be beat.....try them. JB has customer service down as I was treated like VIP. Daniel

I am definitely going back for karaoke and the jazz band on Friday nights. I met who, I think was the owner, he gave me the grand tour of the facility: outdoor and indoor spaces, fire pit, pool tables, lounge area, kids are welcome. 5 star Customer service that’s rarely seen in these days. ….PUT THIS PLACE ON YOUR SHORT LIST!!!

This place is amazing. I had the smoked whole catfish, and mannnn that flavor was impeccable. I’m going back for the smoked salmon immediately. The vibe is real chill, the owner’s cool, and the portions are huge. If you’re reading this and contemplating on if you should go there, stop thinking. Do it! You won’t regret it. The food is delicious. 10/10!

Amazing food. Amazing staff. Amazing environment. Everything from pool to books to vintage music boxes. This is a great place to hang out and play pool, vibe out with a drink to live jazz, or catch a book in one of their many comfy chairs. The food is impeccable and seemingly made to order. The staff welcomed us in and gave a tour of the place. I suppose they can pot new faces. All in all this place is much needed on this side of town and they don't slack in any way. Can't wait to come celebrate my birthday here in two weeks.

Flavorful food, friendly service, awesome atmosphere (I went on a Jazz Friday). The food was a little slow but I definitely had a good time. Very unique place.

You HAVE to experience it for yourself. No regrets thus far and I've been a faithful customer for over a year now. My top three go to meats are smoked catfish, smoked wings, smoked pork ribs. In case you haven't figured it out, the meats are smoked!

Each time I have entered the pit it has been a experience from the smooth and lax crowds to the music! An the food is amazing I have only had the chicken so far and it has set the standard!

I had a great experience! All of the food was fresh and flavorful. I had the pork ribs plate with the potato salad and corn on the cob. The portions were just right and the ribs were so tender. I dug in before I remembered to take any pics(sorry😬). Great value & great atmosphere! I will be coming back soon for the live music (Friday nights).

Today was my first time coming here. I was very pleased with everything from the service to the food.The chicken was juicy, the Ribs were fall off the bone good, and the sauces were amazing. I was also given a tour of the place and this will be my go to spot for Bbq.

Great BBQ place! Good food, friendly owner, and the Jazz music was quite alright. The place has a lot of cool areas: two patios, pool tables, lounge, and dining area. They should do something about the big lights in the dining area, especially when there is a band playing, this would create a better atmosphere, make it a bit more cozy. The location is a little out of the way, but it is worth the drive. I would say this place would also be perfect to rent for a big group or company for a private event or Friday after work meeting.

All I can say is wow! This place is simply awesome. From the second we walked in we were welcomed and treated like family! Beyond friendly staff. More than just a place to eat, games, pool tables, lounge to relax in, indoor or outdoor seating. We had the beef rib with rice and gravy. Slow cooked for 18 hours and we were told it would fall of the bone and did it ever! Best food we have had in a long time. The menu has a good variety and the specials, man do they have them! We will be back and back and back! One very happy person.

Unexpectedly called to work on a Saturday and was feeling some bbq. Today I had the best smoked Beef Rib I have ever had in my life. It was melting in my mouth and perfectly seasoned so I didn't dare put any sauce on it. Then I tried a sample of the pulled pork which was so moist and had a little kick to it and so delicious. This was and absolute feast and I was fortunate to sit and talk to the owner J.B. Very knowledgeable on his trade and very welcoming as soon as you walk in. Do yourself a favor if you like real bbq you have to stop by. You will not be disappointed, the portions are huge and I can't do the beef rib justice in words. It was huge and full of flavor and smoked perfectly.

We were just looking for some barbecue place when we drove through baton rouge and we had the greatest experience here! The food was amazing and the people were very attentive and nice. Really recommend this place for barbecue but aswell for some drinks or hanging out.

I am so glad I was invited to come here. I am vegan and my meal options was very accommodating. I had corn on the cob, smoked sweet potatoes, fries and salad. I went with my sister and she said the smoked fish was delicious. It feels like family here. The owner makes you feel like you’re home. It was good conversation. The Lounge area is welcoming. There is pool tables as well as board games to enjoy. I definitely recommend you to come and experience the atmosphere.

Arrived and was pleasantly greeted at the door. Very friendly staff and a clean building. Not a big fan of cake but was offered a free sample ( couldn't turn that down lol). Not your average barbecue spot. They have a live band on certain nights and karaoke.....the food was delicious, loved the secret sauce!! The owner was super cool!! Definitely will be returning!

This place is a true hidden gem. Food was fantastic, they add just the right spice kick. My kid loved the pork ribs and Mac and cheese. The staff are friendly and welcoming. It’s a great space, the owners have really thought it out and it’s obvious they’re constantly working on upping their game. It’s got a full service bar, pool tables, indoor and outdoor seating. Family friendly. We got takeout but I will definitely bring my family back to hang and shoot some pool. It’s off the beaten path but highly recommend supporting this business. They’ve got a lot of space and a stage for live music. I think this would be a great space for family or group gatherings.

A friend invited me to enjoy jazz night and the band along with the great bar service was the highlight of our evening. I cannot recall the name of the band, but they played a few true jazz tunes and excellent mostly jazz-influenced R&B. The music made the atmosphere appealing and the drinks while delicious were a bit weak. Other than that, I'd recommend this establishment for the music on Fridays. The staff and manager were polite, professional, and personable. We didn't eat, so I can't offer an opinion about the food. We did observe others eating enjoyably and that may mean it's good.

Well, I don't usually write reviews but this was the very BEST barbecue I have ever eaten. We had pork ribs, pulled pork, chicken and brisket. Seriously, it melted in our mouths. The owner was such a hospitable man and his Mom was great. Family owned. People need to know and we need to keep him in business and supported. You are missing out. Go get some of the best barbecue ever.

Went for brisket but they ran out ... But I did get a small sample of the best smoked tendency brisket I've ordered, even though they was out I must admit that JB made sure I was not leaving without ordering anything so I got family fest had ribs and sausage and oh my god their grilled chicken love it juices with a crispy. 😋😊 wonder atmosphere and I must say "The Smokey Pit " will be seeing me again looking forward to my brisket and much more 😀

This spot is such a gem! Stumbled in after a google search and got a pleasant surprise. The owner was an amazing host who did not disappoint, he gave us a tour the place (they’re billiards, full bar, private patio!) The BRISKET was amazing! Mac and cheese was bomb! He also let us try some smoked chicken wings, soooo good! Y’all have to check this place out, I’ll definitely be back!

This was the best food I have ever eaten while visiting Baton Rouge. The food and hospitality was absolutely amazing. The meats and side dishes were seasoned to perfection and with love. Everything were ordered was mouthwatering and delicious. The dry rub on the meats were so incredible that sauce was not needed. The staff demostrated the true meaning of good customer service. They were attentive, courtesy and so kind. I intend to visit The Smokey Pit when return to the area. If you are looking for the best barbeque and southern sides, I highly recommend The Smokey Pit.

Looked like it was a family owned restaurant. This restaurant was way out of where we usually go. It was in a very secluded location. It has a lounge area, pool area, patio and regular seating area. The in decor was very outdated but we went there after hearing very good opinions about the food. We are very glad we went there. We ordered 2 meats which each came with 2 sides. We got a chicken leg quarter which was quite juicy and well seasones. The Rib tips were amazingly seasoned but the meat was a little tough than i would enjoyed it to be. Coming to the side dishes, they were really good. We got Mac and cheese - very silky and very cheesey Jambalaya - this side was charged extra but was worth it. Amazing taste. Red beans and rice - very homely tasted Baked beans - had that nice sweet barbecue sauce taste. Ordered Chicken/sausage gumbo - the best dish i ate there. The heat and flavor in this gumbo was totally next level.

If you're looking for slowwwww smoked meat this is the place to go. Don't go there expecting fancy, but look forward to enjoying a relaxed "we all family here" experience. Came in from Georgia and ate there twice on my weekend visit. Was able to catch Ribeye Friday. Then came back on Saturday for the brisket. DELISH!!
