Great authentic Mexican food! A must visit when you are in the area. Located on Drummond Island. Take the ferry from DeTour Village in the UP of Michigan.

This place is so cute!!! We were so excited to eat here. Family of six and hungry. Our waitress was not super friendly or attentive. And the food was "meh."

We have been coming here for years, back when Esther had a small truck outside her home. This place went downhill big time. Tried calling for 2 hours and finally went there to order to go. The lady seemed really confused when we told her the phone wasn’t working. It took over an hour to cook the food and then they told us they were out of sopas, after they gave us our food. So we had to wait again for something else. The food was terrible. Small portions. Barely any beef in the chimi, and it just was an all around terrible experience. We will just get Mexican when we come home from Drummond. Terrible food and service. Not recommended at all.

The best Mexican food in the area

My family has been enjoying Esther's since the days of her food truck with fish taco Fridays. We love the bright and happy decor and all the funny signs. We highly recommend the wet burrito with chipotle sauce and, of course, fish tacos.

Best authentic Mexican food ever!! Everything we ordered was top notch and they went out of their way to make it a great meal!!

Now that I've found it, this is one of the few places I will always go back to when visiting Drummond Island. Some of the freshest, tastiest, made from scratch food I've ever eaten and prices are sooo reasonable.

We loved this place. There wasn't anything negative about it. If I lived there I would be eating there all the time. The very best from waitress the best the food. The best. The sights there to see and the building the best if we ever get within an hour from esters we will make a point of visiting again.

All our food was delicious and the service was great. We brought our dogs and they were welcomed on the patio. We ordered the three taco meal, breakfast burrito, wet burrito, nachos, street corn, churro and a sopaipilla. The chips and salsa were so good, I could have just eaten those as my meal. Drove from Riverview, Michigan. The chicken mole was really tasty, and so was the wet burrito. Will try a different dish tomorrow. 👍 ❤️ Love Ester's decor (sense of humor) ❤️

Great Experience And Food With Great Service.

People were very nice and helpful. My burrito was good but my friend wouldn't eat her fajitas. She said they had no flavor. The queso was really good!

Stale chips, only mild salsa, the quesadillas were overcooked, no liquor license. 1 and done!

Esther does it right. Fun place to eat, GREAT food. However, the service (depending on your server) can be a little slow. The fish tacos my wife had were packed with deep-fried fish, mangoes, red cabbage, cilantro, onions, and a sauce that made the taco. My enchiladas had all the flavor one would expect and not, thankfully, drowning in some so-so sauce. The refired beans were done right, and not a soupy mess from a can, but real homemade beans. The side of rice, too, was packed with flavor. Very much a must when on the Island!

ran outta food, coffee (yes, we were told they ran out of coffee) and felt rushed to leave because they were closing early due to running out of food.

If you want truly authentic Mexican food you should eat here. They will Americanize the food if you desire, but people who want and enjoy the real thing need to come here.

Good place to try some Mexican food

Bad food. Truly terrible service. The kind of place that charges for chips, charges to use a credit card and has a gift shop to take your money while you wait forever for them to make your food. The low quality of service would be redeemable if the food was good but it's not. The salsa has no flavor. It tastes like runny tomato sauce.

If I could give this restaurant more than 5 stars I would. This was our first trip to Drummond Island and first time here. It absolutely positively is worth a visit to Drummond Island just to eat here. The atmosphere is fun, the decor is crazy goofy fun, we even took pictures of the bathroom 😂😂. And the food was just amazing, from the fresh salsa to the entrees it was amazing. We will definitely be back with family and friends to share this place with.

Extremely good food! I live 4+ hours from this restaurant and I would make a trip to Drummond island just to eat here. Very good service as well.

Really nice place to eat. Food was outstanding.

Visited in late October 2022, a few days before they closed for the winter. From the complementary chips and salsa, through the main courses, and ending with the dessert, one of the finest and funnest meals I've ever had up north. The fresh salsa was so good that I bought a few tubs to bring home to share with family & friends---they loved it too---next visit I'm going to see if I can buy a gallon of it! I was fortunate to have met and had a wonderful conversation with Esther several years ago at the Meijer grand opening in Sault Ste Marie, I assisted her there with her very large purchase of fresh produce, etc. for use at her restaurant. Because of this chance meeting, I know she uses only the freshest and finest ingredients and promised her then that I would visit her restaurant some day (It's a 285 mile drive from my home in W. Michigan). So when I visited in October we renewed our acquaintance and had another wonderful conversation! Although the gift shop was already closed for the season, Esther reopened it just for me; I proceeded to do some early Christmas shopping while there. It's well worth the trip to Drummond even if Esther's Authentic Mexican Cuisine is your only planned stop, Esther's is now my favorite Mexican Restaurant in the entire UP of Michigan.

My hubby and I went there last March. Hands down the best burrito I've ever had. It was amazing. I'm looking forward to going back there again soon.

The staff doesn't know the Spanish pronunciations on the menu, but the cook made the best Chile Rellenos. I'll be back!

We loved the food at Esther’s. It was delicious! But the best was how much my daughter loved the Mexican Corn on the Cob. She said it was unbelievably flavorful and would have it again. She also loved the churro

Oh my was the food delicious! I had normal tacos and they were so good. My family was also pleased with their good quality. The waitress was very short with us and not friendly, which was odd because we are super friendly :(

We have never had a bad experience at Esther's!! We LOVE it! I always get the fajitas but the Korean taco's (Thursday special) are AMAZING!! The kids always get the churros to go and my husband loves the fried ice cream! Yum!! Definitely a must on Drummond Island 💗

This place has the best authentic Mexican food north of Southwest Detroit. Esther and her crew make everything with love. Great place to bring the family. Check out their gift shop too! So many unique items you'll find here.

Best Mexican food I have had out side of Central Texas. Haven't been to Mexico yet so my opinion only carries so much weight. However I have traveled all across the United States and I can say this place is 10 out of 10 for sure. Not a cookie cutter mexican restaurant! Esther's is a true jem to the island and Michigan as a whole.

Perfect tamale’s ! This is a great spot to stop after a day of reading on Drummond island. Large portions , reasonably priced and quick service.

Food was good, they do put alot of onions in their dishes. The place is really cute outside, colorful, and the little signs were really funny.

The food here is worth the drive and the ferry line! So amazing! There is a bit of waiting due to it's popularity and being short staffed so relax and take in the beautiful atmosphere or check out the gift shop!

Outstanding service with a smile and explanation on menu items when asked. Refered here by a friend and it didn't disappoint much. Tamales were all masa with no filling. Otherwise great place with delicious food!

Some of the best Mexican food you’ll find ANYWHERE in Michigan. And the best fish tacos on the planet. No joke, this place is a gem, and so is Esther. The aesthetic is adorable and quirky. The staff is always friendly, and they are even very tech forward… from Starlink WiFi to Toast checkout on your phone with ApplePay… being part of the 21st century at a restaurant on an island in the middle of nowhere is awesome! If I didn’t have a place on Drummond Island, I’d probably still drive from Detroit just to visit Esther’s.

First time here. Excellent, very fresh, very tasty and super hot!. Seasoned perfect. Many times you get the burrito with the queso sauce and the sauce is cold.

Wonderful gem on a small island. Visited in July 2021. We were surprised to find fresh, authentic Mexican food on a small island. Reasonably priced with good portions. Wide variety. The service was terrific. Loved, loved, loved the decor.

Stopped here for lunch and enjoyed their combo plate while my wife ordered the 'small' nachos. Portions are generous, flavor is authentic and presentation very pleasing. I highly recommend that you give them a try.

Great food and generous portions!

First time there! Actually ended up going twice in one day! Got a snack early in the day when we checked it out, then came back for dinner! I had the fajitas; my Mom got the seafood nachos (Saturday night special, I believe). My Dad got a small order of nachos (and it was big) and my friend got the chimichanga and loved it. We all loved our food - good portions; great taste.

A real *authentic* (purposely redundant) Mexican dining experience...owned and operated by a family that is working hard throughout these challenging times. We are from Chicago, have had all kinds of "authentic" foods and this is the real deal!

Love this amazing Mexican place

We had the wet burrito and chimichanga with fried ice cream for dessert. Everything was very good.

Food was great had to wait awhile due to the crowd of people. I don't imagine it is normally that busy, but because it is forth of July weekend they were extremely busy. Food came out freash and hot. I had a chimichunga with regular taco meat. My sister had the chimichunga with shrimp and her husband had the cgimichunga with shredded beef. We were all full and satisfied. We had the chihauhau cheese with sopapias for an appetizer and it was delicious.

Chimichanga with shredded beef...so good. 5 stars for the food. They were busy n short staffed, but that seems to be a part of the new normal.
