After reading about Far Breton, I made my way to the Madison farmers’ market in hopes of trying their kouign amann. Unfortunately, they sold out quickly, so I made my way to the bakery location in hopes that I could find some there. Lady Luck was on my side~ My husband and I grabbed a kouign amann, cinnamon roll and a ratatouille galette and I have to say, we are completely enamored! We think this is the BEST bakery for French baked goods in WI hands down as well as the best kouign amann I’ve ever had (we’ve had pastries from Paris and throughout France to NYC to CA and everything in between to compare). Luckily for us, our daughter lives super close to the bakery, so I foresee many trips in our future. We’re coming back soon for the croissant noir and the quiche. Coffee is simple but good and strong; would love the option for espresso maybe in the future. Very friendly service. 100% recommend!!

Highly recommended. Just a Texan passin’ thru on way to Iowa then Nebraska b4 return to caldron, but hands down, you do not want to be the fool that is not client of these amazing bakers. Scone, mini-quiche, cinnamon roll - top class.

Absolutely stellar pain au chocolat; the spiced sugar buns are divine and the koign amann is extremely blessed. I don't think this place could make a bad pastry! Definitely worth the trip.

Went for the first time, the staff was amazing and very friendly! I wasn't sure what to get and they helped me learn what everything was and helped me pick out some delicious treats!! I will definitely be going back!!

Great place- most friendly staff I’ve ever met and the sugar buns were awesome. Never been to a bakery that didn’t have dry products until I came here. All the goods were moist and freshly baked and they even let me try one without asking

As soon as I walked in it smelled sooo good and the pastry I got is delicious! My cat agrees that it smells good 😂

I visit this bakery as much as my waistline can afford lol! Everything is amazing, but my favorite is the chocolate croissants! If you have a chance to try them, I highly recommend getting one of everything 😁 The baked goods are amazing and so are the workers! Thank you for the delicious treats!

It is a great bakery!! Once I got a croissant and started eating it while driving away, and realized it was still warm from the oven!!

Cozy and quaint bakery. I'm totally in love with this place. Prices are comparable to other bakeries in the area, but I keep coming back because the pastries are so delicious.

Pretty much anything edible from this bakery is just really super good. Prices are fair for portions. I highly recommend.

had a pastry that was so divine I felt like I had been transported to heaven over a private garden. seriously good. limited or no seating. minimal coffee selection.

I came in closer to closing, so I wasn't sure there'd be much of a selection. I had plenty to choose from and wanted to get one of everything. Chrissy, the manager, was incredibly helpful and even gave me some restaurant recommendations since I was visiting from out of town. All of the pastry was deliciously buttery. Absolutely worth visiting.

So happy this place moved in my neighborhood! I tried the Kouign Amann (the clerks recommendation) and was practically mouth watering for it a day after my first consumption. The service was super friendly too!

Five stars for friendliness of staff and one star for quality. This was our first visit, and we really hoped to love the place after hearing about them on Reddit Madison. We picked up 9 items yesterday/Saturday. The two raspberry galette we tried today tasted and appeared anything but fresh. One taste and we passed/tossed them. Went to the cinnamon-sugar morning buns, which looked beautiful. The centers had a kind of custardy/eggy-wet-dough consistency and flavor that was definitely new to us. Unsure if that's a style? but we're not custard/creme brulee/cooked egg people so two more hard passes after we again each tried a bite. Not knocking those in case they were intentionally made as such, but they, too, went into the bin. I moved on to a carrot cupcake. It was pretty good but again tasted and felt seriously (EDIT 3 mos later, missing word: *less*) than fresh. Even the frosting was dry. I'm a huge carrot cake fan and have tried soooo many. Loved or very much liked nearly all of them. Finished half of this one because I was hungry. My husband is reluctant to even try the (orange? lemon? we forget) cupcake that was in the cool case next to the carrot cupcake. The very nice person readying our items said it was "about a week old but should be okay because it's covered in frosting." I looked at my husband and he said he'd try it. So we bought it. I did not ask but more importantly they didn't offer to reduce the price at all. After telling me it was about a week old. My husband thought the little shortbread cookies were good, and we both liked the seeded chocolate chip/almond cookies quite a bit. Bummer.

Those morning buns bring back fond memories of times I spent with mom at the ovens of Brittany. Medicine for the soul.

The pecan/almond croissant (still warm from the oven) was sublime. And I hardly ever use that word!

The questions are how quickly will I be back and how often! Good food and service make me smile. Walking in for my first visit, I was greeted from someone appearing from the baking area. She was friendly and enthusiastic about describing the goods for my first visit. So good, that I ended up with three baked goods all for me! They may have a giant Jersey cow out back grazing on sugar cane for all the deliciousness in each item. The quiche may have been the creamiest I have ever had tucked into to a flaky crust. The day old cardamom made a great afternoon snack. Each bite’s flavor profile was a mouth party. The Kouign-amann is decadent.

OMG!!!!! French croissants, paine chocolat, macarons…..this LOVELY new bakery on the north side of Madison will transport you to France without the plane ticket! Delicious from the bakery smells emanating from the shop, every olfactory sense was on high alert! Glass cases filled with deliteful pastries transfixed the eyes. The key lime macrons were fresh and zesty, the croissant was flaky and buttery, the paine chocolat an other worldly chocolate sensation. A cute coffee cart outside completed the lovely visit!

There r many very good commercial bakeries in this town. In my book, what distinguishes greatness from very good is whether the commercially made goods taste like homemade or not. These taste like grandma made them the very same day. Uniquely excellent!

I got one croissant (huge, $4.50), and it was okay. I thought it was a bit too moist/greasy and had too much butter (the grease was leaking through the paper bag and when I bit into the croissant, the inside was WET). I thought that this may be due to the fact that it was super hot outside when I got the croissant, but when I took it out of my fridge the day after (after 24 hours of refrigeration), it was once again way too dense and greasy albeit a bit more solid. I've never had a problem where a croissant had too much butter considering butter is literally its foundation, but it managed to happen here. Interesting experience, to say the least. This croissant was also definitely more well-seasoned than croissants from other bakeries, but it was just a touch too salty for me. I didn't think I could take multiple bites without having to chug down a bottle of water. It did have an extremely nice crunch factor! Decently crispy on the outside and didn't give in super easily when I press on it. I appreciated how big it was too, but given the price, it was probably the right size. I could also tell that they used really good ingredients too, so although $4.50 is quite costly, I'd be on the fence about reducing the price too much. One thing I wanted to note was that the inside of the croissant had an almost fermented/cultured flavor (reminiscent of alcohol), which made me wonder if it was actually overproofed...? I thought that distinct flavor was nice at first because it helped to cut the grease/fattiness of the body of the croissant, but it became a bit too much as I went on.

I have been waiting a while to get a chance to stop in, and this morning it finally happened! Amazing selection of baked goods, both sweet and savory, so I picked up a box of just about everything they had to take home to try with my Fiancée! MINDS WERE BLOWN! Everything was that delicious! Makes time and stop by if you haven't because it is absolutely worth it!

Holy $hit. Best cinnamon roll I've ever eaten. Freshly baked and warm, gooey and soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, perfect ratio of cinnamon/bun/icing. The other items I tried were outrageously delicious, too. AND they've donated bakery to the NPO where I work. Thank you, Far Breton!

I got multiple items when I went, all absolutely delicious. I do greatly suggest a visit this is a local gem.

Everything was really good! I wanna go here every day! I highly recommend to go here. The quiche was out of this world! The dough is delicious flakey and served right out of the oven!

This place is so insanely delicious. If you haven't checked it out yet, you're missing out. Far Breton is my new favorite bakery in Madison (and I've tried a lot). Each bite is an experience worth having with a mixture of classic and unique flavors. Highly recommend you stop by and support this awesome little shop.
