The food is da best and even though I don't get down here more than a few times a yr, I have NEVER been disaapointed. The food is so ONO. UPDATE 2024: Thought maybe the older gentleman was a worker who just had a bad day and then realized, he is the boss. Talk about GRUMPY, seems EVERYTIME I go now, this GRUMP is serving me. He needs to stay in the back cooking. TERRIBLE ATTITUDE and acts like I am fortunate to be allowed in the place. No longer worth dealing with GRUMPY for the food. He is RUINING the place.

Heard of them and it was close to another errand I needed to run. Walked in and it took awhile to go thru their menu. I ended up with the fried noodles.

I was soooo disappointed with my choice to eat here for the first time. It was between here and pandas and honestly I should’ve stuck with pandas because atleast it would’ve been consistent. I went with this place because all the pictures and the reviews looked good, but …after trying it out, sadly I will not be coming back. I will say though the cashier seemed pretty nice and friendly, so that was a plus. I got the loco moco and after the first bite I knew it was gonna be bad. The gravy, burger patty and eggs lacked any kind of flavor. My second bite had shells in my eggs and the yolks were already hard, not runny one bit. My son took two bites of his food which was the Kalbi and he stopped eating it. The meat tasted burnt although it didn’t look burnt, I’m assuming maybe the grill, idk but it tasted burnt and was extremely chewy. Not for us! Very disappointing but I mean this was my experience, it doesn’t seem like everyone has the same experience but as for us, we will not be returning, especially paying the price we paid for our food, no thank you.

We got the breakfast bento and everything was delicious. We also got the waffle hash browns, they were crunchy and good but a little oily. Will definitely be back!

Got one of the daily specials. Spicy Ai pokey bowl. A good deal at $13. The owner was friendly and helpful. This was the third place. I tried for lunch. The first two places advertised having brown rice, but didn’t have any when I got there. This place did, so kudos to them. Going to eat here instead of Panda Express from now on when I’m in the area. Seemed like everybody was getting takeout. The dining area is comfortable with a lot of natural light, and they keep it clean. They were actively cleaning while I was there.

I go here for takeout before work. Usually not to busy. Daily specials tend to sell out quickly. Good food good price😀

I can see why this establishment has gone down hill...gentleman behind the counter has ZERO personality and acts like my family and I are wasting his time. The food has gotten really bad. The fried chicken is hard, garlic chicken is hard and super salty, and the bbq meat is beyond salty. The spam and hotdog were the only things on my plate that were actually edible.

Came to this place based on someone's recommendation, but their food (mac and chicken) was very, very salty. The bread on the outside of the chicken was so hard to bite into/chew. Chicken inside was also super hard. The cashier seemed unfriendly too. He replied kind of rudely to any questions we asked. No smile. They charge for the cups too. Seats are all taped up. Definitely wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!

Salty food, thought the cut of the poke was very rough and seemed like it just came out of the freezer. Terrible customer service as mentioned by other reviews, the guy really doesn’t seem to enjoy his job.

Neglected 2 take picture, but had a special request low carb plate of salad greens with a hamburger on top. Hamburger was delicious and seemed like a pure beef patty. Yummy! Only bummer they only had papaya seed dressing. Would eat there again if in the area.

Horrible customer service. My wife put in an online order, guy at the counter didn't say one word to me, looked at me, I said oh I have an online order, (didn't ask a name or order number or anything) seems like I was inconvenient by ordering from them, handed me the food, I said thank you, still nothing. No bag, no box. (Whatever) I checked the order, went back to him and asked him for napkins and utensils, he rolled his eyes at me and got them, I said thank you again. Still nothing but dirty looks from him. He seems so happy to be at work!! And to top it off, online there's a service charge, idk about if you order there, and we left a tip!! I really used to like this place

There was a good selection of breakfast and other plates to choose from. I'd say this place gets a price rate of $$. The food was yummy, and the atmosphere was ok. Service was ok too. There was no greeting or offer of assistance as we pondered the choices, and no one was out and about in the customer area to observe a friendly service. I ordered the corned beef hash omlete with fried rice. This was a first for me and I enjoyed it. I'd order it again. I forgot what my daughter ordered but she ate the whole thing without a complaint so I guess she enjoyed her meal too 😊

The sitting area is really run down, but the food is totally AMAZING! Love they Hawaii style fried rice❣️❤️🫰

Great local place. Got the Loco Moco lunch plate and it was fantastic. Quick service and plenty of seating. If your in the area, make sure you stop by for a great meal.

Went for Dinner on Monday Feb 27 and was craving onion rings. My wife and I ordered hamburger with fries and a side order of onion rings. I wish the waitress said its not onion rings but onion strings. I was disappointed it wasn't onion rings. Then the waitress explained it after the fact. Our receipt even says Onion rings. Oh well, not going to order that again.

Cashier on this day was outright impatient and rude with all customets walking in like we were inconveniencing him.

Had the Hawaiian surf n turf. Panko fish was ono, garlic chicken was good to. The loco moco was alright. The beef was hard and the taste was bland. My bf got the pork chops with gravy on the side and it was bland too. Food is hit and miss I guess but great service.

Just one of those places for local kine grindz that's gonna taste consistent no matter the location.

Food was good but upon pick up on a oreordered item with noone in line, they took forever to help. Not sure if they were slammed with take out but they didn't even acknowledge upon walking in.

I got Chicken Katsu & Roast Pork. When I get Roast Pork I expect soft, tender & juicy. The pork was tough. It seemed like a really lean cut of meat? The Chicken Katsu was over cooked, making the chicken tough.

First time I went, the chubby dude was pretty grumpy. I thought I'll give this place second chance. This time I got a very nice lady but the food was disappointing. Fried chicken was way over done. It's too hard to eat. Tater tots were a bit stale. $16 bucks went down the drain.

First time here after hearing they had great bentos. Decided to try their bento which for $12 you get 2 scoops rice, fish, hot dog, teri beef and garlic chicken. They have other mixed bentos and a good sized menu of plate lunches and breakfast. Conveniently located right behind Costco Waipio

Lots of good options comes out fast. Good prices. Food tastes great, but everything looks terrific. Awesome people working there!!! I am definitely coming back.

The stew, katsu, and chicken are very good! There one knock would be that the "mini" plates are on the smaller than expected for Hawaiian plate lunches lol

We dined in and did a take out recently. First off, the gentleman taking the order does not smile...lol. It's okay though. The food here is great! They give a lot. Also, I love the coffee. It's delicious! I don't really like to eat fish but I got I gobbled them right up. I've tried the breakfast bento, Ali'i bento, fish & chips and the omlette. The garlic chicken, fish, and shrimp tempura is yummy! Just take a look at the photos. You can tell my just the photos how good the food is. Haha. (I could only find 2 photos... I had more but I may have accidentally deleted it argh). It's okay I'll be back to take more pictures lol. Parking is good. Starbucks drive thru line is super long so they block one side of the parking. But there is lots of parking. Walk in, take a look at the menu, go to the counter, and put in your order. They call out your order when it's ready and put the food on the counter. Also, you can call in your order. I've tried it and no complaints. I wanted to give 5 stars but I just couldn't cause normally if a worker is not smiling or doesn't greet, I would drop the rating super low. The food is delicious so even if the guy at the counter is mean looking... I just deducted one star. He did say thank you the last time I went. But that's it! Lol

A small restaurant in a plaza tucked behind Costco. "Locals eat here" as it says on the menu and I can tell you yes thats true, we had our lunch here and it was delicious. Freshly cooked and the amount is plentiful. The menu is diverse so if you like options or if you were hungry from shopping at Costco, this is one place you don't want to miss since closeby makes it even better!!!

I’ve tried several local breakfast diners. Fatboy’s French toast is really yummy plus the bacon is crispy not burnt like other places. Try the 2-three-2 if you’re not super hungry. The illy brand coffee to perk up your day, is really good, too.

Had a delicious lunch at the Waipio restaurant but was super impressed with the precautions taken due to COVID-19. We felt safe and witnessed everything being sanitized. The manager came over and thanked us for stopping by. All in all it was a very comfortable dining out experience after being skeptical about dine in eating! Thumbs up for Waipio Big City Diner!👍👍👍

Visiting Oahu for the day and stopped here for lunch. Quick service and good food! Large selection of items and generous portions. I got the Spam Ramon and really like it, loaded with veggies. My wife got one of the daily lunch specials and was just as satisfied.

Great local restaurant away from the tourists. As usual my stomping ground on Oahu to eat. Don't pay ridiculous prices when you can have the local flare! I stop by Oahu at least 2X a year after my Maui fix......Weekend breakfast specials are wonderful. The menu is great with daily/weekly specials. I'm a kimchi lover, so you can get fried rice with kim added.....mmmmmm good. There are a number of locations all over Oahu.....try one. Wish they would open in Maui!!

I’ve eaten at Big City Diner-Waipio multiple times, and I’ve never been disappointed. I especially like their breakfasts (fried rice, loco moco), but had lunch there on my last visit. I had their lunch special of grilled Asian fish over baby bok choy. It was so tasty! According to our server, the fish is catfish, farm raised in the US. My only complaint is that the bok choy was hard to cut with a butter knife. My girlfriend had the golden fried pork chops (2 pieces) and she was equally pleased with her food. Their prices are very reasonable and service was good. The restaurant is crowded with tables close together, but the food makes up for the lack of ambience.

Come hungry, you get a lot of food. I had the ground beef patty over rice with gravy,it was very filling.

After getting off the early Maui to Oahu flight, heading to Mililani for the boy’s tournament, we decided to stop in at the Big City Diner in Waipio. Luckily we beat the Sunday morning crowd and our meals came in about 10 minutes after ordering. My wife’s kalbi was pretty lean for that type of local flavor. I upgraded to Uncle Danny’s Fried Rice with my Loco Moco. I usually don’t finish all my meal since I am not a breakfast eater but my plate was wiped clean.

We stopped here on our way to the airport for our flight home. Our son eats here whenever he can because they have the best loco moco and really good, fresh food! Locals eat here, it’s not a tourists trap or a place you will see busses lined up at. My mom and I shared a loco moco with kimchi (and still had leftovers for my son to take home), my son had the fresh seared ahi tuna salad with avocado. My sister had something bland with hash browns (lol). Our food was so good! Will return when we come back, for sure! Highly recommend this place! Service good, clean bathroom too!

We were seated pretty quickly and our waiter showed up right away. He was so nice and friendly, I think his name was Clyde. I ordered the Cobb Salad and the others at my table got some hamburgers and the Loco Moco, none of us were disappointed. We visited this restaurant on a Saturday morning. It is located in a shopping center with lots of parking. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We sat indoors- the dining area is bright, clean and well ventilated. We were warmly greeted as soon as we entered. The host gave us menus and informed us of specials. Wait staff came over as soon as we sat down. She asked if we want beverages while we went over the menu. Breakfast was beef kalbi, eggs & paniolo potatoes and steak, eggs & fried rice. The meats were cooked just right, flavorful and juicy. Service was friendly and efficient. Both host and wait staff checked with us to see if we were satisfied with the foods. Dishes were cleared promptly and coffee refilled regularly. A hearty meal to start the day.

I love this place! There are so many choices. I am always torn between the chicken paniolo salad and the Big Burger. The garlic fries are AWESOME! So is the sorbet and the bread pudding!! And the staff is always nice.
