This review is primarily on the brisket sandwich, which was fresh and tender. Also had a side of Mac and cheese and coleslaw. The Mac and cheese wasn't too bad. It lacked flavor but was loaded with cheese. Adding the brisket to it took both foods to another level. .....hint....hint. The coleslaw was sweet but the texture wasn't to my personal liking+ though I did eat half.

Do not miss this spot for lunch. The large number of public service vehicles at lunch tells you this is the place to be. Melt-in-your-mouth brisket, sausage links, mac and cheese, potato salad. A happy find.

I have known that family for 50 some years. The best meat in town. I can keep on.

I got the coleslaw today and it was the best I w had anywhere. Fresh, crunchy, a little sweet pickle - it was perfection! Also the ribs were phenomenal this afternoon. Definitely going back.

We visited from Chattanooga, the smoked food was awesome, only reason not all 5 stars. BBQ sauce WAY too sweet and no option of a hot sauce of any kind... Great meats but bring your own sauce unless you want to have a glucose overload shock to your system. The crew totally great...next time I will bring my own sauce

Hands down the best Brisket Iʻve had in a hot minute! There was a line even before they opened. I canʻt say enough good things about this place. I will be back! All of their sides were good, not the best, but it complements everything we got. We tried the wet wings, burger, brisket, ribs, every side they had and a banana pudding. I would just go there for the brisket, but it is worth the wait, for sure. Thank you!

Best BBQ and we traveled cross country recently and it was good in Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, but couldn’t hold a candle to Gary Lees. They were gonna retire and close down and the community begged and pleaded, and so Gary Lees is only open 2 days and they do it for all the loyal customers and community and friends. Make sure you can pop in sometime and get the best BBQ!

I got the smoked chicken and it was great. 6-13-2024; I got a brisket sandwich and Mac and cheese. They are both great. That brisket will make you slap yo mama.

Don't let the exterior of this restaurant deter you from trying this BBQ. We ate here during a road trip and discovered it deserved the high rating. The brisket was juicy and tender with an awesome smokey flavor. Was so good it didn't need sauce. But of course, we had to try the sauce. It was very good and complimented the brisket nicely. Not too sweet. I tried one of they bacon strips and wish I had just gotten a plate of them as a meal. Best bacon I have ever had!

I stopped in Gary Lee's for lunch and the service was very quick with the staff being very friendly. The brisket was juicy and tender and was a great match with the barbeque sauce, which wasn't too sweet and slightly tangy. The bacon is a must try as it was crispy with a pop from the pepper to make it a great addition to the meal. I'm not a fan of sausage but this has a nice mixture making it not too hot. The baked beans were sweet with the bits of brisket adding a nice surprise. The potato salad was my favorite because of its unique potato cuts and creamy taste with just a hint of flavor from the red peppers and pickles. Take a chance and stop in on your journey, I am sure you would enjoy it too.

Small bbq joint that does amazing brisket, pork, and bacon. The sides are fantastic, and the homemade dessert is nothing to scoff at. This place gets my Texan seal of approval.

If you are a fan of BBQ, then you have to make a pilgrimage to Gary Lee. This is the real deal. This is authentic BBQ and it doesn't get much better than this. We have been stopping here for years during our trips to Florida and back. They are less than 5 minutes off of Interstate 95 in Brunswick, Georgia. They are only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It's a take out place, but they have tables inside to sit and eat at.

The staff is so very friendly and happy to answer any questions you have. The food is some of the best Bbq I have had! Picked up a little of everything for a large dinner party and I though we had plenty for everyone, turns out it was a huge hit with the group and we had no leftovers to speak off!

Got a plate of wings,and a slab of ribs. Wings were good but the ribs were top line in taste and texture,man they were great.

Overall, I couldn't find a reason to complain about this place. Unfortunately, we forgot to take pictures of the food. However, I will tell you we got just about 1 of everything in the meats, and a few sides. We told the gentleman up front it was our first time and he was very helpful and even threw some bacon in for us to try free of charge!! We had the ribs, sausage, smoked chicken wings, brisket, bacon, cheeseburger, baked beans, potato salad, and the Mac n cheese. It was all fantastic. I haven't had a lot of BBQ, honestly, but this is the best I've had thus far. I would highly recommend the bacon and cheeseburger. The potato salad was on the sweeter side, but still plenty tasty. We brought some friends that were briefly in town and they went back the very next day for dinner again because they enjoyed it so much. A dinner for the 4 of us on night 1 was around $50 and filled us up perfectly. I will give one small critique, but it isnt my own. We came near closing time and my spouse believes the food was a little on the cold side. I personally didn't notice, but that is her claim. She believes it's because we came near the end of shift.

Five star service and even better bbq and sides. The chopped pork and brisket are to die for as are the mac and cheese and Brunswick stew. Gary Lee’s does not disappoint!

One of the best BBQ I had. Epitome of mom and pop style and country feel. Personal saves are the wings tossed in sauce and chopped brisket sandwich with slaw and mac sides.

Staff greet you in a super- friendly, welcoming way. You can make your own plate. Their wings might be the best I have ever tasted. Ribs were succulent throughout without dry spots on the smaller ones. They were out of brisket - and mac and cheese. I can't wait to go back and try them. They are definitely worth the trip.

Hey Drivers, You can get your rig in here if they're not to busy. The pit boss at this place is a pro. His sausages are very good, and chix wings are moist n tasty. Check em out.

Great BBQ, good service - only slow due to customer line. Pulled pork and chicken very good... only 1.5 miles from I95, but Gary's is old school and feels from another time. It's absolutely worth going to!

Real Southern BBQ & Southern hospitality! Yes, Virginia, there is a Gary Lee and he's a hard working, hands on, and friendly host! If you want fancy, I'm sure if you drive a few miles, you'll find a bbq chain all dressed up to look like a bbq joint...but...if want great BBQ, this is the place! We only tried, the 1/2 chicken, wings, mac&cheese and baked beans! Loved every homemade delicious bite! Be forewarned, I also had a cheeseburg, holy cow, it was 3/4lb...even I couldn't finish it! Freshly ground beef with off the wheel Wisconsin Cheddar! Cant wait to go back!

Best smoked wings and freshest, tastiest coleslaw I ever ate. Beef brisket, sausage, & pork butt were also delicious. Was disappointed I didn't get to try the collards, which were sold out for the day. Country-casual atmosphere - - neat, simple, clean. Our party of 6 dined in, plus we ordered take out of a whole butt and large quantity of wings

Love this place. It is my go to for bbq. This time they also had jalapeno onion sausage. OMG! It's delicious. I'm not a spicy food girl, but this is just right. Not hot to the point it sets your mouth on fire. Just enough for a little kick. And, as always the bbq sandwich is the best. Gary's is just a good hometown home grown place to go to. Gary does it right.

I've stopped by Gary Lee's several times and I have never been disappointed! They brought out a pan of Beef Short Ribs right as I was about to order the Pork Sandwich and Brisket, so I decided to switch my order last minute. The Pork Sandwich is a great option! The Beef Short Ribs and Brisket were phenomenal! Mac n' cheese is my go-to side dish! Also, you can't leave without trying their Blueberry and/or Chocolate Delight. Heard about this place from a friend. Great service. Very friendly and helpful. We tried several things. Our favorite was the ribs and sausage. The sausage is perfection. The ribs are tender and seasoned well. The brisket needed more seasoning, but was tender and not dry. The smoked wings have great flavor as well. The potato salad is good, but on the sweeter side, so if that's not appealing to you I wouldn't order it. The slaw and beans are good as well. Definitely recommend the ribs and sausage. We didn't get to try dessert, but we'd definitely go back.

For years when I out this way I know what I'm going to eat

The atmosphere was well thought out. A cute little southern BBQ place, with southern charm. The set up was different, as everything was already cooked and set up cafeteria style and under heat lamps. You had the option to eat inside the resteraunt, but it seemed like everyone was just taking food to go. You stood in line, picked your choice of meats, and it was sold by the pound. Everything was sold by the pound, even the cheeseburgers. I was not expecting this. Ended up spending $50 on a small amount of brisket, 2 small jalapeño sausage links, 2 cheeseburgers, 2 very dry pork chops, and some macaroni. I guess that's about right, for the pricing, but it felt shocking. Over all 4/5 being that pricing was a bit strange.

I got a pound of brisket and a bunch of sides, excellent brisket, and the baked beans with brisket in it was really good too.

Gary Lee's is what you are hungry for....from smoked chicken to ribs, or the Boston butt... Family style setting at the dinning table and the best lemonade/tea...

So glad we found this little gem. Food is incredible!! I am very picky about Brunswick Stew, and theirs is one of the best I've ever had. The service is spectacular, and everyone is so friendly.

Best BBQ around. I live near St Augustine, FL and I drive 1.5 hrs for Gary Lee's Brisket. I have not found place in a 75 mile radius that comes close to the flavor, moisture, or tenderness. Texas is the only other place that makes brisket this good. Gary Lee's pork ribs, pulled pork, and burgers are amazing as well.

Found the best BBQ food in Brunswick , Georgia. I was told about this place by a friend and it didn't disappoint. Do not judge a book by its cover. The outside looks like it can use some help, but the simplicity of its design is overcompensated by the flavor and quality of its food inside. The brisket and the chicken wings were full of flavor and tender. Their BBQ sauce is a must to add a little bit of soul. I am looking forward to returning soon.

Slow smoked meats, delicious food that doesn't need sauce but the sauce is so good you use it anyway, fair prices.

There's a cult-like following around this place, and for good reason. While on a service call from Jacksonville to Brunswick, my coworker told me about this place and became more and see the closer and closer we got. Now, having eaten there, I understand why Gary Lee's customers would be so enthusiastic.

Don't let the outside look fool you. Back in the day, this was the neighborhood grocery store. But now you can get some of the best BBQ in state. I like the ribs and pulled pork. My friends say the brisket is the best. Gary also serves chicken, pork chops, sausage, hamburgers, and wings, and today they had steaks. Everything is good. A family operation with a very kind staff.

We have passed by over the years but only recently stopped in after a friend raved about the food. We visited on a Saturday around 12:30. Service was fast and friendly. We loved the atmosphere. The food was okay. We bought wings, brisket, ribs and both types of sausage, as well as potato salad. The wings were very good. We would get those again. Brisket was… wet? It looked good in the pan but lacked a smoky flavor and had a texture similar to pot roast. The bark was just soft and mushy, despite its beautiful appearance.I have never had brisket like that and would not order it again. The ribs were really good. We would order them again. Both the smoked sausage and the jalapeno onion sausage had excellent flavor. Very tasty. Unfortunately, neither was packed well into the casing and both were very crumbly. Like the brisket, I have never experienced that before. Imagine cooked bulk sausage packed into a less-than-snappy casing. We wouldn't order the sausage again. The potato salad was sweet and mayo-based. Not bad but not great. Overall, we were pleased with the food and the price was fair. Next time we will try the pork chops and pulled pork, as well as the other sides. 3/5.

It was okay, the brisket wasn't that great but the rest was really good. It was a saturday, so I probably got the end of the meat, but yeah it was good.

You might ignore it if you drive by...Don't! People where I live are like...why would you drive that far for Bbq when we got good ones here? Then we go and it becomes OIC. The service can be a bit taciturn at times but it is some incredible stuff somewhere you would never expect

This place is a must! Why haven’t I found them before now? (Other than I live in NC). There’s a reason they have been in business for 52 years….the food is amazing and the staff is soooo friendly. I LOVE brisket and have had my share around the country, Gary Lee’s is excellent, the bark is perfect! My husband got wings and cleaned the bones, they were that good. The Brunswick stew was awesome as well, very flavorful. The staff is the perfect picture of southern hospitality. Go early, they sell out of some things closer to closing.
