The only thing I dislike about this place is their hours. I've been wanting one of their subs for about a month but they close wayyy too early and are not open enough days of the week. I wish they'd try opening for near-dinner hours and don't get why they aren't open latenight on weekends. Quality meats n cheeses, correct ingredient ratios, great buns from Tasty Pastry, and pickled cherry peppers that are my favorite pickled peppers made these the best cold cut grinders I've had in Tallahassee since moving here in late 2005. (Grinders are like subs only better.) Staff were helpful and friendly. You might be put off by prices compared to other sub places but these are not dinky little sandwiches and we got more than our money's worth.

Simply put this is the best sub in town.

I loved my food and service from here! I work right down the road and just needed a sub real quick. I called in an order and got there within 10-15 mins and it was ready to go. The staff complimented two of my tattoos that led into a good conversation about Hayao Miyazaki films. The food was wrapped up really nicely and the way they make the sandwiches is unusual compared to most sub shops but it was one of the least messy subs I’ve had, they wrap the meat around everything to kind of keep it together. It was so delicious! A great experience overall and will definitely be coming back. I highly recommend and it’s a family owned local business too!

Love this place! They make hoagies just like my Nana used to make and like my favorite hoagie shop in south Florida. The staff is always super friendly and quick.

Local yokel family-owned hole-in-the-wall. I have enjoyed their delicious and rather large sandwiches on other occasions but I found myself suddenly in need of a Cuban sandwich on National Cuban Sandwich Day, thanks to the local newspaper's reporting. However, the Cuban sandwich I ordered and desired was not a Cuban Sandwich as delivered but rather, a ham sandwich dressed as Cuban. Shame on the Tallahassee Democrat for spreading lies and conspiracies.

These guys know the deal! Great attitudes across the board. Fiance got the salad and they hand chop every ingredient, looks better than any restaurant salad. I went for the Italian 8", absolutely packed with fresh bright ingredients, meat sliced per order. If you are from FL and know LaSpadas or have tried OG subs in Tallahassee you already know what your going to get at HeluvaSub and it's amazing. Support local, shop small

From the moment I walked in, the staff greeted me with a smile and were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout my entire experience. As for the food, I ordered the Reuben sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious. The bread was toasted to perfection, and the corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing were all layered in just the right proportions to create a mouthwatering sandwich. The flavors were bold and tangy, and the bread held up well to the generous fillings. In addition to the Reuben, there were plenty of other options on the menu to choose from, and I could tell that everything was made with high-quality ingredients. Overall, I would highly recommend Heluva Sub to anyone looking for a delicious sub shop with friendly staff. The food was top-notch, and the service was excellent. I will definitely be back soon!

5 Star subs & Salads, 5 star service, the only place I go now! Subs made to perfection and fresh crisp salads. My favorite day is when they do “Philly Saturdays” their Philly cheesesteak is soooooooo good!! Best I’ve had in town!!!

Love this place for a fresh sandwich!!! The pressed ones are amazing, the bread is crispy, and the guys who run this place really know their stuff! They’re nice guys who make nice sandwiches and I will be coming back as often as possible!

Went in to get a Cuban it was good sandwich but the customer service is horrible. First time coming in and when we asked for the Cuban the gentleman that cut the meat was very nice. The older man then ignored us while the chubby dude was preparing our sandwiches. Being our first time there, we didn’t know that you can’t customize the sandwiches, so we wait patiently for them to ask if we wanted anything else on them and they just glared at us like we were peasants in their presence. After we check out and eating our sandwiches the heavier set man says very loudly to the older guy “i can’t believe they were just staring at me”. All in all they need to work on customer service and communication with their customers who come in to buy their food.

Great food, great price and great staff! The only thing lacking was maybe some background music to add a little atmosphere but the food was extremely tasty!

The 8" sub was loaded with fresh quality sliced meats and the toppings were fresh and crisp. The bread was fresh and soft, which was a nice departure from other sub shops where the bread can be too chewy or hard. The service provided was friendly and efficient. The prices were on the higher end, but they pile on the quality meats. I left feeling very satisfied by the experience, and my taste buds and belly were very pleased. Looking forward to my next visit!

Truly ridiculous amounts of good food at very reasonable prices. The staff is very friendly, also. As part of this review it asks: "How much did you spend per person?" I bought two foot long subs, each one coming in between 10 and 15$. Each one is at least two meals, and one of them might be 2 meals for two people.

The sandwiches were yummy, and freshly made to order. I had the 8" Italian. The employees were nice as well.

This is my first non 5 star review. I have been conflicted for some time about writing this review. They are fantastic when they get their subs right, second only to OG Subs here in Tallahassee. They are modeled after my second favorite sub place of all time Laspadas (OG Subs being my first). My first incident (July) was being served a sub on bread that wasn't from Tasty Pastry. I immediately knew something was wrong. The owner did admit to trying something different. The problem is I didn't want something different. I wanted bread from Tasty Pastry as advertised! They would have maintained 5 stars in my book. Mistakes happen. I have had dozens upon dozens of subs from them so eventually something was going to happen. My second incident (First week of September) was a sub that didn't taste right. I realized it was the lettuce. It was horrible! Again, this wouldn't change my rating of them. It was a fluke. My third incident (Second to Third week of September) was a sub that made me very sick. I am not sharing the details as I don't want to make anyone else sick. I didn't know for sure it was the sub. I recognized it could have been something else I ate. My fourth and final incident (Third to Fourth week of September) was the next sub made me just as sick as the previous one. I hope everyone else has positive experiences with them. It will probably be some time before I can try them again. UPDATE: An employee of Heluva Sub reached out to me some time ago on Facebook (I didn't recommend them and posted what they could do to improve). They said all of my incidents occurred before Heluva Sub officially opened. They also commented they hadn't seen me in there before. I responded to how the incidents all took place from July to September. And I knew Heluva Sub had their soft opening in June. Their staff, from their soft opening to my last incident, only consisted of the owner, his son, and his mother. This employee must have started some time after that. They then deleted their first commented deleting my follow up comment with it. My one specialty is customer service. I have never seen a business operate like this. I changed my rating from two stars to one as a result of such poor customer service. I wish I had taken a screenshot of that exchange before it got deleted!

I'm disappointed in my latest experience. When I walked in they told me they were "6 subs behind" and it would be a few minutes. A few minutes later a lady took my order on a piece of paper and said I could wait while they made other orders and got to mine. Something like 25 minutes later, my sub was made. I paid and drove back home. What I found inside was not what I expected: * My roast beef and turkey sub had just roast beef. * The meat was only on top, which is not what this shop normally does. It's normally on the bottom with a small wrapper on top. Instead I had a thick mass of meat on top. On the plus side, it seemed fresh and did have the toppings I asked for. I didn't really enjoy it much, but it was fine. I called to tell them what happened. The young guy that answered the phone told me the meat on top only was his mistake as he keeps forgetting to put it on the bottom and has to put it all on top. He said my order was for roast beef only, when I'm very sure I ordered turkey and roast beef. Perhaps the person that took my order didn't hear me properly? The guy on the phone said he was sorry several times and I guess that's a good thing. Good for him for admitting his mistake. My problem is that subs made "wrong" (not to house standards) shouldn't go out. Your product is your product and if your product is inconsistent people won't come back. I waited a totally unreasonable amount of time and paid a somewhat premium price for a meal that I expected to be up to house standards and it was not. I'm not sure I will return even though I've had good food here in the past. It's a maybe for me.

I came in and picked up two subs yesterday. It was just the owner and myself in the restaurant at this time and it's a travesty. This is BY FAR the best sub I've had in a long time. This place deserves to be packed around the clock. Run, don't walk, to try a sub here. Extremely fresh ingredients, excellent bread and very generous portions.

It's a hometown sub shop. The operating hours are not correct on Google. Call ahead. They are opening tonight at 6 pm. Give them a try! Edit. Finally actually got to try a sub! It's amazing how much they can fit in it! Definitely give them a try!

UPDATE: Ordered a sample tray for my office, these subs have 9 very happy (and full) future visitors! Yall order some for your office or next gathering. You cant go wrong! Regardless of what the self proclaimed "local guide" (whos only been "local" for 2 years) has to say. (There has to be more to that story). EVERY store has a bad day, but for ALL that to go wrong with ONE order...dude might need to reevaluate his life choices...just sayin..

By far the best sub in Tallahassee. I come up here almost once a week and have never been disappointed. Get the OMG, trust me.

This place lives up to it’s name because the Italian sub I ordered was huge! I made two meals out of it. They are not stingy with the toppings and they put plenty of meat in the sub. Did I mention it was delicious? Because it was! Everyone behind the counter was very friendly as well. I will definitely be returning!

Great sandwich! no frills to the point. People want fresh and simple. Ton of fresh meat right from the slicer. You get what you pay for they don't cut corners with a fancy name. The sandwich does all of the talking.
