Just an absolutely lovely Belgian bakery. I felt like we were in Europe, not Chicago! Definitely try a croissant (or two) — but in our experience, you can’t go wrong with any of the food or coffee here. The folks operating Hendrickx are friendly and masters of their craft. Thank you for making our Chicago trip so delicious and special!

I had heard a lot about this bakery so today I got a tuna sandwich from them. It was absolutely the worst tuna sandwich I have ever had— two slices of white bread with some mashed tinned tuna in between, no salad, no seasoning! And it was over $10/-! Jimmy John’s and Chipotle would put them to shame! If you want a good tuna sandwich go to Pierrot Gourmet, not this so called Belgian Bakery!

We were looking for a French bakery in downtown Chicago and found this one (Belgian bakery) on Google. Good reviews and even better since we are from Belgium ourselves. The employee was definitely not friendly or welcoming. We ordered few croissants and the Gruyère croissant. When my husband asked to rewarm the cheese croissant that was not really good cold, the lady said it was not possible and was definitely not trying to accommodate us. Very disappointing, my husband comes often to Chicago for work but and we won’t be back to Hendrickx. Few minutes after we left we crossed a group of people who ask us for a good place for breakfast of course we didn’t recommend them this place. I’m not judging the food here but the experience that ruined everything.

Used to have delicious macarons. Today the macarons have the same taste or should I say no taste with no distinctive flavor whether you buy a chocolate macaron or a vanilla macaron. The texture is also not right as to the colors of some of them are less than appealing.

Visited yesterday and the man working the register was rude and snarky. I simply asked if there were croissants and even though it was 15 min before close it doesn’t hurt to ask and how am I supposed to know when you guys run out which he stated as if I should know. Then opted for a lemon tart that was rock hard crust and hard to eat and too sweet such a waste of money. Please treat customers better we are human and are able to ask simple questions without the attitude

Such a gemstone find! Tucked away in the center of downtown Chicago, this delicious small bakery not only satisfies your sense of smell but also your stomach! They have fresh croissants made daily in so many different flavors. If that’s not enough they also offer croissant sandwiches. The pistachio croissant is to die for, and don’t even get me started on the chocolate hazelnut ones!! The prosciutto and arugula croissant sandwich is also very delicious salty bite. The employees are very friendly and welcoming. I just wish they had more seating space!

Very nice local bakery to get a wide variety of croissants as well as cakes, cookies, and hot drinks. They had a wide variety of different croissant varieties but I chose the plain croissant. It was pretty good but not amazing. They have hot drinks and I had a tea which was pretty good. I am glad that it was loose leaf tea which makes it different as opposed to pre-packaged sachets. The service was very friendly. They have seating indoor and outdoor. The indoor seating is through the kitchen. It's a small room but is adequate.

We used to love this place but not sure what’s happened over the past year. Our biggest recent concern is almost every time they get our bill wrong. Sometimes they forget to add something, most times there’s things on there that we didn’t order. This used to not be the case. Between my husband and I we’ve got this joke… lol! Also the pastries, sometimes they’re fresh and to die for, sometimes they’re so stale we don’t go past the first bite. We are now noticing this with the sandwich breads we get. We hope they fix whatever it is that’s been going on, as it’s a shame for local favorite to go down like this.

I went to this place for the first time and ordered a chicken curry salad sandwich and an oat milk latte. To begin with, the sandwich was on a giant piece of bread with about 1.5lbs of shredded curry chicken on it. While the first bite wasn't bad, by bite 5 it became impossible to keep eating it. It was bland and not worth the price. My main complaint is the coffee. I've never had worse. To begin with, it was served to me at an insanely high temperature. I had to wait 10 mins before taking the first sip. The espresso tasted burnt. They don't know how to properly froth oat milk. I opened the lid of the cup (a to go cup) to be greeted with 5 inches of burnt foam. To the workers of this establishment, your service is friendly and you all seem very nice. But please learn to properly make espresso drinks. You seem to think a latte is all foam. Overall, I would not go here again. I never take the time to write a bad review. But I believe this establishment can benefit from some constructive criticism.

Quiche didn’t taste good and was still cold in the middle, even after it took 15 minutes to arrive. We only took two bites of it and left the rest, and instead of asking about it. they just took it away, so I guess they don’t care that much. Croissant was good, but would’ve been better warmed up. Eclair was good, and exactly what you’d expect, but the macarons didn’t seem fresh, almost frozen inside, and almost to chewy to get through in certain flavors.

Colleague who helped me at the register was rude and slightly obtuse - to my question about whether there was fresh, warm challah, he launched a tirade about how baked goods are only fresh at 8a. Spent 15 minutes waiting for burned espresso which I deposited immediately in the garbage. Warm Quiche was excellent, tomatoes in quiche exquisite and especially shined, yet to try the macarons I purchased. In short: extremely poor customer service, do not recommend for espresso, come early because croissant sell out quickly but if you don't mind choosing from what's left and a little bit of a downer in your morning, then do stop by.
