Funny thing, the last time I was here was 48 yrs ago. We celebrated my brother's wedding rehearsal at Hu's. Well, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that this Family owned restaurant had survived these many years while many Family Run Restaurants fell victim to rising cost and the recent Pandemic. If you are looking for great Chinese Comfort Food, Hu's is the place. Everything we ordered was good. I especially loved the Hot and Sour Soup. It was very tasty. So, don't be turned off by the extior, the Service and the Food are well worth the trip to Hu's. Plus,Everyone should support good Family Owned Business

Wednesday is the only day you can dine inside the restaurant for dinner now, and you need to call to make reservations, according to the staff. Otherwise it’s take out only. The food was simply ok, decent, not outstanding, but we didn’t try the green beans, or other dishes they seem to be famous for, and got nothing spicy. The hot sour soup was neither, not spicy nor sour. But it was warm and filling. Didn’t see any chili oil to add to food. Not sure if we will try them again. Very chilly inside, not wasting $ on heat for one day. It’s their business and they’re running around so it makes sense.

The food was ordered over the phone, and came warm, but extremely underwhelming, disappointing and upsetting for the amount of money for it. $18.00 for a beef and brocolli where the container was not full. When we called to tell them that the containers were not full, we were ridiculed by the male on the phone, after asking for a manager he said "You can speak with me." "We're not a deli. We measure by volume, not weight..." well let me tell you, not only was it very dismissive and rude to state that based on how much money they charge for the small portions, but they ended up having to fix the order, and who would of known, it had more food in it the second time. Other reviews say they felt the small portions were over priced, and it is echoed with our experience. We will not be ordering here again.

Yeah, I’m done, too. As recently as a couple years ago, this place was expensive but serviceable. Now? The prices are laughable, even for westside standards. The food is fine, but not remotely close to worth what they’re charging.

This is a very old fashioned style Los Angeles Chinese restaurant. It may not be for everyone but it is one of my favorites. You have to get their famous string beans. I also recommend the spicy chilled cucumber, sour chicken with garlic sauce, Kung Pao beef, and any of the Chow Mein noodles.

You can tell it's fresh by the workers making the dumplings and cutting green beans on the table next to us.We ordered the sweet and sour pork, the spicy chow fun, and the chicken wings. The wings were BOMB, crispy, juicy, and meaty. Prob the best thing that we had.The noodles were also really good but be cautious Bec mild spice is still pretty spicy for some people.

We just kept on slurping. Flavors are solid and it made an amazing first meal in the city. My wife and I visited this week. The positives.....very nice staff and the owner seems interested in customer satisfaction. Place is clean and the restaurant is not noisy. I had the dinner that included hot and sour soup (fair), one egg roll (greasy, but relatively tasty), one shrimp (overly coated so that the shrimp itself was overwhelmed), chicken Kung Pao (good, not great). My wife had the eggroll, chow mein with tofu that was on the oily side. Two fortune cookies were good. Restaurant was moderately busy with quite a few take outs picked up. Would try again with different choices of entre and appetizer.

40+ years ago I came here and although the Restaurant is hidden on a busy corner with limited parking (3) spaces in Palms I suggest you don't just pass it by. Some here in So Cal are prone to judge the Book by it's Cover, not it's contents and therefore would pass it up by looking at the Restaurant but I must say this Family owned business is still thriving, and dare I say even improved the quality of their Food from when Dad was in the Kitchen back in the 70's. It brings back memories of New York's China Town where you can find a hidden Gem anywhere you turn. The Menu is basic, the Food fresh and perfectly prepared. Congratulations to the Kids and friends of the Family for preserving what Dad built and continuing to serve a grateful community!

Reading these reviews just cracks me up. I first came to Hu's in 1980, when I lived around the corner on Motor. I had moved there into my own place, after a breakup w/my college boyfriend, and girlfriends lived in the building next door. I feel like I grew into being an adult there, eating at Hu's when I could afford to. There was an adorable little boy running around the restaurant whenever we went. He is now, of course, a man but the food is just as good as ever. The decor is damn near the same and I wouldn't want it any other way.

*COVID restrictions review-Dec 2020* I completed an evening walk-in order but my understanding is that they deliver and engage in contactless pick-up as well. Parking: EXTREMELY limited. There's metered parking along the block but only on one side of the street. You'll need to park at least a block away (around the corner) and walk. Otherwise you'll be hard pressed trying to parallel park in the residential area and chance a hell bent ticket issuing parking enforcement crew. It's WLA, there's no mercy. Prices: A bit expensive for my budget. I'm not sure if the prices have always been high (considering average takeout) but I was a bit overwhelmed by the bill. I ordered a single serve soup and a full entree (veggies only) and it came up to $25 bucks. Granted, I'm used to Panda Express prices being ridiculous for the trash they feed you but when it comes to portion and price, many people would consider this place expensive. Food: I enjoyed the food and it was comforting. I ordered the Hot & Sour soup and the vegetable chop suey. I meant to order the single serve but didn't specify that while ordering so they prepared a full order and it came with rice. I did not eat the rice. The vegetables were tender but not soggy (perfect) and the soup had a warming spicy feel rather than the burning mouth and esophagus feel (great balance). The dish tasted freshly prepared and I appreciate that. Overall, the food I order was good.

Hu's is sort of ugly on the outside and not much better inside. But it is super clean, the food id great so we don't care at all. Hu's has been around quite awhile. It is technically in LA, near the Palms area, but for whatever reason, I always associate it with Culver City. It is small and you can eat in or get it to go. If you get it to go, it will be hot still when you get home. All the food is great. They have dumplings that you can just eat until you burst. I have been there and only ordered dumplings and was in heaven, but don't do that on your first trip. Try various items, all Szechuan, all delicious. The service is super friendly and fast. I love eating at Hu's myself, but I do see a lot of take out when we are there. Ignore the fact that it is a little hole in the wall or you can embrace that, not go broke and have the best food.

I go to this restaurant for many years and I finally decided to write a review as it is one of my favorite Chinese restaurant (not too many left unfortunately). Little corner place, nothing fancy, you need to bring your own beer or wine if you want some as they do not have a liquor license (liquor store next to the restaurant, so practical and cheaper). Menu is fairly simple with traditional Chinese dishes, one of my favorites are the garlic pork (also available with beef, chicken or shrimp), Kung Pao, orange beef, beef broccoli,.... but the ultimate is the szechuan wontons appetizers (12 pieces a portion), it is one of the best I ever had, made onsite as you can see the staff prepping them and rolling them, super fresh with a exquisite sauce. Very generous in meat stuffing (many of other restaurant do not), it is worth the drive just for this dish. Staff is extremely nice, family own place, and pretty cheap (around $12 per person), i always do feel welcome to be there, my son sometimes seat with the owner to roll his own wontons, this is the type of place. Menu around $10/$12 available with large choices. It is very hard to get good Chinese food in Los Angeles, driving to Chinatown is far from where I leave and I do not think it is very good anyway. Parking next to restaurant.

I am told that they have not raied the prices over the past 5-10 years which I believe. I honestly think you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Decently friendly and love their regulars. The Szechwan Dumplings are my favorite thing on the menu. My only complaint would be timing and what they do when its off. Recently had bad luck to go during same time as regulars, i notice our food is slow and others comes out lightening fast. A table of 10 who sat about 40 minutes after we did got their main courses about 5 minutes after we got ours. This was also my least favorite visit based on food quality as I would give them 3/5 for this visit. The Wontons were epic as always!
