The lobster roll was fire!! There’s something about the toasted bread that complements the lobster so well! Everything we had was so good and well-seasoned.

Great lobster roll and a quite amazing fish burger! Both are up there among the best I have ever had. The fish burger was seasoned to perfection.

"Island" Take-out is a play on words. The best mix of Carribean fare and Maine seafood. Don't miss the real Jamaican rum cake made by a baker in Ellsworth! What a find.

Stay away from the burgers, lack seasoning and taste funny. BUT GET THE FISH SANDWICHES!!! OMG, they are amazing! The gentleman in the kitchen was super nice and it is cozy cute seating outside:)

Don’t know why people rated this place anywhere below 5 stars, but this place is definitely a hidden gem in Acadia. Saw the reviews are good so wanted to give this place a shot, the location is behind the Sunoco. We went there for the first night and picked up a Jerk chicken leg quarter and a blackened shrimp/fish sandwich. The food was just sooooo good nothing else I could say. We went for lunch the next day in town at a well-rated restaurant but all we thought in our mind was the jerk chicken, so we went there again for dinner😂 ordered a jerk chicken and a lobster roll, the food was just perfect. The dudes at this place are very nice, all the food are fresh and well-prepared. Again, hidden gem, a must visit for all people who comes here Sorry for the pic lol couldn’t help eating when the boxes were opened lol

Wow. I rarely leave reviews but this place deserves it. If you are in this area you need to stop by Island Take Out!!! The place is located in a weird location, behind a gas station but dont let that deter you from going you must stop by!! Head up DO NOT COME LATE! show up at least by 8 pm, the kitchen gets backed up with lots of orders that they close before 9 pm, but believe me the food is delicious! lost of flavor, small bussines own, reasonable priced. Make sure to try the jerk Mac and cheese and the blackened fish sandwich! The only thing is that you will have to wait at least 30 min for your order if not more (we waited about 45 min) but it's is worth the wait!

You wouldn't expect a shack behind a gas station to have amazing food but wow! When we were there it was just ONE guy doing everything - taking orders, cooking, etc. We shared a lobster mac and it was amazing. The sauce was very creamy and kind of sweet. Parents got a lobster roll (massive) & a burger. They said both were really really really good and good quality.

So glad we missed a turn on our drive and stopped here! Chicken tenders are (picky) 6 year-old approved!!

We really enjoyed our meal (burger, jerk chicken sandwich, and blackened haddock sandwich). It has that “hole in the wall”/“hidden gem magic that makes you feel like an intrepid foodie for taking a chance on it. The staff was really kind and clearly put a lot of thought into their food!

We tried this place on a whim and it was so good. I had some doubts when I rolled up to the restaurant but the food blew me away. Sometimes it really is those hole in the wall spots that are the best

Never have I eaten so well at a gas station eatery!! The lobster roll was fresh and fabulous and the jerk chicken was some of the best!! Kudos for this great welcome to Mount Desert Island!!

Finally found good food in Acadia... Who would have thought. In fact, probably the best food I've had in my 3 trips to Acadia. Everything was fresh and tasty. Jerk chicken was unbelievably good and the fish was very fresh and fried perfectly. Large portions and can't beat the price point either. From now on I'm making it a point to go here.

One of the restaurants that closes late however the taste wasn't there especially for the price you're paying. The lobster mac and cheese was salty as well as the lobster roll. The jerk chicken was okay and not authentic. For the price, I expected better.

Didn’t feel like a restaurant, this is a local place. But we loved the chicken wings, those are tasty.

Hands-down, the best food we ate while on vacation in this area! Fish and chips, shrimp, lobster roll, and the special Po’boy were amazing! I wish we would have found this sooner, so we’d have time to visit again. Go eat here now!!

Small jamaican-styled grill behind the gas station at the top of the island. Outdoor seating under a tent. Tasty food, we had blackened fish sandwiches, the jerk chicken mac, and impossible burger.

This place rocks !!! The food was scrumptious. We had lobster roll and blackened haddock sandwich. The homemade chips are always a hit. The presentation was also great. Then we had the best homemade blueberry pie A-la-mode. The different flavors of homemade ice cream are delectable. We came upon this place after morning hiking in Acadia. We hit the jackpot !!

Didn't know it was at the back of the gas station but we still gave it a try. It wasn't very good, tasted like it was from the back of a gas station 🥲 The bread on the lobster roll was so stale it was inedible. The jerk Mac and cheese was weird... noodles were cooked well but the sauce tasted like instant powder sauce and looked like it too after it had cooled a bit.... zero chicken in that dish, which I expected since the name was jerk Mac and cheese but I guess not. The best item we got was the coleslaw....

I was told by a 50-year resident of the island that this was the best place for a lobster roll and they were right! Made fresh and you get a lot of lobster for your meal. Absolutely splendid!

The seafood was absolutely sublime! Each dish was bursting with fresh flavors and the was cooked to perfection. I had calamari fried and fish and chips and it was so delicious. Seating area with nature was amazing.I can wait to go back and try more dishes Definitely a must-visit for seafood lovers.

Fish & chips were well seasoned & crispy! The cole slaw that comes with it is super light & tasty! The jerk chicken didn’t come with rice or plantains but it was fresh & super smokey & flavorful. The prices are $1 more than what’s written on their menu. There’s a place to eat outside only but it’s super clean & breezy with good music.

We got the jerk chicken wings and lobster rolls. They were so, so good. I wish they were in Illinois so we could go every weekend 😭. Thank you for delicious food. And the service was phenomenal. Definitely a must stop if you're in Maine!

We were exhausted and wanted something easy, casual, and non touristy/ not crowded, on a Saturday night in busy season. This place had good reviews and seemed casual, so we checked it out. I’ll admit, despite the good reviews, I didn’t have super high hopes. I thought it would be decent but nothing super good. I was wrong. It was pretty delicious! We rolled up about 5:50p and saw it was connected to the back of the gas station. Hmm okay, different. We parked back there with only one other car- right off Highway 3 off the main road. We ordered and went and sat outside at one of their four green picnic tables under their covered tent. Within a few minutes, tons of people showed up. Some to-go orders, and the rest filled the other three tables. We had just beat the rush. More cars came in but had no where to park. I’m not sure how they do it when they’re busy— and I read it’s busy often. We ordered the jerk chicken sandwich- delicious! On a bun with onion, tomato, lettuce and It has a pineapple sauce (ask for it if they forget it). Tons of flavor and moist chicken. Simple, flavorful, filling. With a side of ruffle chips. We also got the island salad: fresh greens, onion, fresh bell pepper, tomato, honey mango dressing. That dressing was so good!! And the veggies were so fresh! We all loved it. We ordered the appetizer fried calamari w the spicy marinara dipping sauce - pretty good. Flavorful. Not the best I’ve had, but was good. We Also ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Came on a bun with Cole slaw and ruffle chips. It was good and flavorful. My son got the side order of Mac and cheese. It was a large portion and super delicious, creamy, twirly noodles that he loves, and we all shared it and loved it. The kids portion would’ve been smaller, but maybe bigger than I thought, and I didn’t expect the side order to be that generous— was great! We enjoyed sitting outside and they played good music. The service was good and the lady was sweet who brought our food out. It did take awhile, I think due to togo orders prior to us, but we had patience. Mosquitos were going wild but we made the most of it and ate quick to make room for people anyways. Decent prices for the touristy area. They have a vast menu, from lobster rolls, lobster Mac n cheese, jerk Mac and cheese, creative burgers, many sandwiches, salads, sides, and of course since they’re Jamaican, they have Jamaican jerk chicken, jerk and bbq wings, jerk chicken sandwich, fish, sweet potato mash, and other things. It all sounded good. For 4 people: the 2 sandwiches $15 each, side Mac $6, small island salad $8.50, and appetizer calamari $16.50, and tax, it came to $79 after our tip (my mom tips well). (Calamari wasn’t cheap, but it’s seafood, so to be expected). Worth going for pickup or to eat there. Go early or call it in ahead and eat outside.

I moved to MDI a couple months ago and this place is the only place I ever want to get take out from here again. Absolutely awesome folks who were super excited for me to try the jerk chicken and trust me it rivals any jerk chicken I’ve ever had. The blackened fish was immaculately seasoned. The coleslaw was perfectly balanced crunch to mayo ratio. The fries, crispy and fresh. The desserts were also PERFECT! Pineapple aioli was delicious and almost dessert like in richness without being too much. Jerk sauce actually made me salivate (gross to say but I don’t care). We don’t eat out much unless we find somewhere that can out do what I can in the kitchen at a reasonable price and this place puts me to shame and is priced more than fair. We will be coming back over and over again.

The lobster roll was phenomenal as was my boyfriend’s fish n chips. Next time we (hopefully) visit Maine, this will be our first stop! Staff was so friendly and the people here are also just really personable.

Amazing food! The chicken had such amazing flavor. It was the absolute perfect thing to eat after a hike. It was fresh but also really fast and everyone was so kind! I just got a meal but there was a drink selection and several dessert options too. I’m so happy we came here!

Genuinely the best lobster roll i’ve ever had. I’ve had a fair number of lobster rolls, and quite a few in Maine. The BEST!! My friend had the warm one and I had the cold one and the lobster was so fresh. Fried clams and salad were amazing, too. 10/10 recommend this place.

Everytime we come up to MDI we make a point to visit Island Take Out. The staff, food, and service are all incredible. Love the jerk chicken anyway I can get it. Burgers, salads, lobster rolls all top notch. Jonny has done an outstanding job with this place and you and your family will surely enjoy your experience here as well!

Hidden gem in red building behind gas station. The food was delicious. I had the island salad with a yummy dressing and the jerk chicken mac. I would return. It is take out but they do provide picnic tables with a tent to protect you from the elements if you choose to eat there. GF options also.

While visiting Acadia, I ate lobster every chance I got. I ate so many lobster rolls! 😝 Island Take Out made my favorite lobster roll. It was a delicious brioche bun, lightly crisped and buttered, and filled with freshly picked lobster meat. It wasn’t overly greasy like many of the hot rolls, the ratio of butter to meat and bread was perfect, and it came with a side of fries that were also excellent. I just wish I had stopped in earlier in the week so I could have enjoyed their food more frequently during our visit.

One guy in a kitchen attached to the back of a gas station & BOMB food. 10/10. Some of the best fish and chips I've ever had in the States. My oldest also said she really loved the Mac & cheese & my youngest loved her hot dog & fries.

Fun little take out behind the corner gas station. The fried fish sandwich was amazing! Very large portion of perfectly cooked and crunchy Haddock extending way beyond the bread. Highly recommend stopping for a quick lunch fix. Fast and friendly service!

The epitome of a hole in the wall spot on the side of the road by the bridge to Mt.Desert Island. Very nice staff and solid sandwiches before our flight at the airport nearby. Didn't get to try the jerk chicken but could smell it roasting as we waited.

Absolutely fanominal. We started by ordering The Jerk Chicken Mac (which is a must have... Seriously) Fried Chicken Sandwiches (So Crispy and Juicy like above the level of places that mainly serve fried chicken) and Jerk Chicken Sandwiches (so flavorful and tender) and not only was the service so genuine and caring, but it was so very satisfying and perfect after a long day. I want to write and couple paragraph long review but I am just going to try and leave it short. This was quiet possibly the most pleasant meal I've had out of the last 10+ restaurants I've been to. Outstanding. Will be back.

Food was delicious and prepared fresh. Process seem steep, 29$ for lobster roll, but it was my first one and I'm not complaining.

They just opened so menu was limited. Had lobster rolls. Very good. Nice toasted bun and plenty of meat. Parking can be a challenge and there is no indoor seating. Grab a picnic table if it's nice out or eat in your car.

The fish and chips were great! The staff was friendly and welcoming. They even brought my order out to the car! A bit tricky to find, it is the building right behind the gas station.

We were there the first day they opened! All i wanted was lobster with butter..and thats exactly what i got, with some corn too, of course! Sooo tender and delicious! They are friendly and patient. I have a bunch of allergies and i felt very safe. Thank you for a delicious meal!!

Delicious food! The jerk chicken and jerk mac n cheese are so flavorful!! The chicken is cooked bone-in and then chopped up, so be aware you need to eat around some bone. The mac n cheese sauce was a perfect balance of tangy, savory, and spicy - I wish we’d gotten a double order. This place is a little tricky to find, especially if you’re driving there in the dark. It’s on a little “island” between roads that’s primarily taken up by a gas station. Island Take Out is up a little driveway to the left of the gas station, tucked behind the main building.

Stop what you're doing and go to this place. Won't disappoint.

Highly recommend Fried shrimp cocktail and Jerk chicken. They were a blast and a nice contrast to the lighter taste of all the recent seafood we had.

What a find! Finishing a hike and was I need of a hearty meal. A real gem. Got the beet salad which hand some delightful candied walnuts goat cheese some warm fresh made beet slices. They were sitting on a bed of spinach, came with a sweet yellow sauce. Maybe too sweet for people who don’t like a sweet salad; especially with the sweet candied walnuts. Would have liked more beets but that’s cause they are a newly found favorite vegetable. On to the main feature. The ITO Jerk chicken! Wow! Extremely tender, even better by the fact that we were sitting outside looking at what I can only imagine was the smoker it had come off of. What a delightful spicy treat leaving you with a wonderful warm sensation in your mouth. filled with flavors and love in the recipes. What a cool joint, two beers on draft counter service style, definitely had Maine lunch in the bottle which was a nice touch. Overall a great find. Well done gentlemen, here’s to another 3 years.

We found this place last minute on a late-night drive to our airbnb. It’s a little kitchen in the back of a gas station but don’t let that deter you (I was hesitant when my husband suggested it but I’m so glad we stopped)! The food was incredible and the 2 guys working were awesome! They were working so fast to get the orders out but still making sure the food was perfection. Since we got there late at night we only had 2 people/orders in front of our and waited about 20 minutes for our food. Totally worth the stop! We got the lobster mac-n-cheese and the lobster roll - both were delicious! The mac-n-cheese was creamier even though this pic makes it look like a yellow velveeta cheese, I promise it’s not! I think they had a picnic table outside to eat at but most people were taking their orders home.

I never leave reviews but wow this place is incredible. My sister and I went after a day in Acadia based on others reviews and we were not disappointed. My sister ordered the jerk chicken club and I ordered the fried chicken sandwich. Coming from Florida we know good Southern and Caribbean food and we both agree this puts places at home to shame. The location is unassuming but WOW is it good, add this to your food list. We're sad we don't live here to be able to get food from here more often!

The lobster rolls were soaked in salty butter, and the clam chowder had no clams or even potatoes, it was just broth.

It takes a long time to get your food, expect an hour wait during meal rushes, but if you’re looking for authentic, fresh, and tasty food, I highly recommend stopping at this family owned restaurant. We got the fried fish and butter lobster roll. Tasted so fresh, was not rubbery, and was a flavor explosion. Definitely coming back to visit.

Just picked up our dinner at Island Take Out . Drove right up - not hard at all , went in " All ready to go " . We ordered it at 4:45 , and it was all set at 5:00 ! We live a scant 2 miles away , so got home - it was HOT , and perfectly cooked ! The Fish and Chips were FRESH and not overcooked - The Chicken Jerk was Delicious - Hot and Spicy like " Wifey " has to have it ! Just A 1 ! And these days , in the " Myriad of Mediocre Take out " - These guys have it DOWN ! Go there - I " Guarantee " youll love it ! Thanks ITO !!!!

It’s unreal how good the food is here. The lobster rolls were as good, if not better, than other rolls we’ve had. The Island Boii burger was delicious, and I’m not a hamburger fan. The fries and Mac -n-Cheese sides were fantastic. Highly recommend Island Takeout.

We ordered 5 pizzas and a bunch of wings for a group of hungry 20-somethings. It was excellent! Nice grilled veggies on the veg pizza, thin crust, cooked perfectly. Super friendly staff!
