We arrived and they said the wait would be about 45 minutes but there were open tables outside. We asked if we could sit outside, they told us we could drink outside but not order food. We put our names down. Waited for about 20 minutes and then asked if we could order take out. They agreed and took our order. Waited another 40 minutes for our takeout. Others that arrived before us were still waiting for their table. Some of our food was piping hot and some was cold. Food was fine. Inside looked pretty neat. Definitely make a reservation if they take them.

45 minute wait time with 10 open tables outside? You only serve drinks outside? Idk seems unreasonable. After we finally got sat, it took over an hour to get our entree. We were sitting on our table being told “thank you for your patience” for over an hour. Glaciers move faster than the service here. The food was good, unfortunately the service wasn’t.

Rude hostess. Was here last year and it was great. This time was made to wait outside of an empty restaurant with just two tables. Upon asking her, she said that the waiters are busy. Guess they don’t want the business.

Came with a group and three of us ordered steaks; all of us thought it was burnt, and extremely dry and had absolutely no seasoning on it not even salt! (I’m sorry to say but it was the worst steak possible lol) 3 of us got chicken on either pasta or caesar, and it also had no seasoning (except it did have salt) and was extremely dry. The steak knives were so dull that it was a lot of work to saw for all of us. Quite a comical evening. And although we were a group of couples, they wouldn’t split the bill for us or allow us to use more than one credit card which was particularly impolite and counter-culture; requiring one person to pay for a large group- quite a surprise . The affogato was incredible but served after the ice cream was almost entirely melted. I would say skip the food and come for the affogato but maybe kindly request for them to bring it out right when it’s made, so you can try their homemade icecream while it’s frozen!

I’ve traveled all over the world and yet still Jack Sprat is my favorite restaurant. The food is so amazing and they have unique dishes and the flavor is unmatched. The owners are incredible and each team member is awesome. You can tell how well an establishment is run by the leaders and the leaders know all about kindness, excellence, and the highest of quality. The atmosphere is like a giant hug and a Christmas hallmark movie dream…but even better because it’s real life.

WARNING for visitors: Call ahead or get a reservation before going. When my party of five arrived, we were told it was a 15 minute wait. That turned into a one hour wait. After finally being seated, we were brought waters to drink, and received no service after that. After about 20 minutes of sitting at our table with no interaction from the staff, we left. (We actually watched a family have the same exact experience right before us. Funny enough, both our parties ended up at Base Camp in Girdwood and had a fantastic experience.)

My 2 sons and I went on our way back to Anchorage after rafting. It's nice, upscale, but very welcoming to everyone. I think the menu updates often, but we had 3 of the 5 main dishes and they were all excellent. 2 were $25, the other 3 were $35-55. Staff is great, and we ate outside with no wait at 8pm on a Saturday, but there was a 50 min wait for inside.

I have been here multiple times. The food can be good, but not as good as all the hype. The biggest thing I wanted to share is that the "nachos" are cold. Apparently, they are supposed to be cold. I just really wish the menu said that, or at least our waitress mentioned it. I have had and made vegan nachos before. They have never been cold before. I traded for my wife's bibimbap and she liked the nachos. Just a heads up.

Unfortunately we were there during a wedding rehearsal. LOUD. Our food took over an hour to get out. There is a room off to the back which would have hosted the party but instead they had other diners in there who had to endure the noise and wait. Beet salad was meh. I yam appetizer had huge wedges of yams. Not particularly good. Salmon was overcooked. Lots of $$ for a not so great experience. IN RESPONSE TO THE OWNER’s MISINFORMATION, we most certainly did NOT ask for a discount. Ever. Overcooked salmon and over an hour to get food deserve a bad review. If we had known about the delay we would have chosen to go elsewhere. Perhaps the restaurant should have closed for the even. Perhaps there were so many customers that were angry you can’t keep them straight. Lying to make yourself look like the victim is unacceptable.

You are not welcome here alone. I waited at the hostess stand outside and was ignored by the server. Eventually, I stepped inside and the staff all looked directly at me as they yelled at each other over the blaring music so I continued to wait patiently. After a while a couple came in, also confused, wondering if I was the hostess. Finally a woman in a red coat stepped uncomfortably close to my face, cleaning her teeth with her tongue (as apparently we had interrupted her eating), asking the man behind me if we’d like a table for 3. I said one and she made no effort but to direct me to the seat at the end of the bar directly behind the door. Not sure how anyone sits there without the door hitting them. Presumably the lack of space in the entryway was the reason for her awkward proximity to my person? 4:50pm on a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon, there was only one other couple recently sat, one couple with doggie boxes preparing to leave, a guy at the other end of the five seat bar already drunk and loudly monopolizing the bartender - one of six employees in the place who couldn’t be bothered to even acknowledge my presence with a smile or head nod or greeting. A sea of empty tables… I have been dreaming of coming back here for nearly a decade that I was away from Alaska. I finally got the opportunity to come, circumstantially by myself, and in anticipation dressed nice for the treat I had been looking forward to for so long. But Yikes! How enjoyable would a meal be crammed into a one-foot square space in the corner, on a stool, behind the main door, next to a sloppy drunk, in a deafening environment where the entire staff wantonly ignore you? Why would anyone want or pay for that experience?! No thanks! As I sat in my car deciding on an alternative, the hostess stood outside at her post and glared directly at me. Strange. It’s definitely no longer the place that had been so special to me.

Scallops were good, kale salad was delicious. And then we waited…and waited… it took 25 minutes for our entrees to arrive. After we ordered, the table next to us ordered the exact same entrees. We watched them receive their entrees, eat and were about to leave when ours finally arrived. No explanation or apology provided for the long wait (mix up in the kitchen? Missed order?). We have been coming here for twelve years. The last time, April or May of 23, we were less than impressed. After this time, we won’t be back. Their yam fries used to be something we looked forward to. Now, they are a watery, tasteless filler that shouldn’t be on the menu at all. We sent the first order back, only to be confronted with the same tasteless pile of watery roots a second time. The ribeye is equally over priced and tasteless. The Demi glaze on the steak is good, and the peanut noodle dish is passable, but if I would have paid $15 for it at a food truck at the fair, I would have been happier. The service is still excellent; no knocks to the service staff, but the menu is lacking and the quality of food is absolutely not worth the price or the wait to get a table. I’m sure this review will make no difference, as most of their business is from tourists, but as a local, we will not be back until we hear that something drastic has changed. COVID is over, please bring back the Jack Sprat of old!

Disappointed: the fare simply did not live up to the restaurant's vaunted reputation (which was the reason I brought three visitors with me). Broccolirabe was definitely not a complementary pairing with the delicate flavor of halibut (indeed, it was jarring). The sliced fresh peaches in the "Peachy Keen" dessert were unripe, hard, and lacking any flavor. ("No, Chef. Cooking the peach slices will not make up for them being not ripe.") One dining companion said their salad, with added scallops, was excellent; as was their dessert. Another was pleased with their Wagyu burger and the fries. Appreciation for recycled/recyclable take-home containers. PS (added on 9.15.23): I don't "bargain" with or about my reviews.

The wait was far too long - a little over two hours until we finally got seated! They really need to offer reservations as this long of a wait was unreasonable. When we got seated, they seemed short-staffed. Service was quite slow as our waiter seemed to be serving all of the tables in our entire area of the restaurant. While I was planning to order the halibut, they were out of that. They were also out of the cheesy dip appetizer and told me that they were out of the spaghetti but had fettuccini instead - so I ordered the fettuccini and then ended up being served spaghetti (although I preferred fettuccini and wasn’t asked if I actually wanted spaghetti). At the end of the dinner, I was surprised with a credit card surcharge added onto the bill - which is ridiculous, and only something that I would expect to find in a behind-the-times conservative restaurant since pretty much everyone pays with plastic these days and thus these kind of fees should just be expected by the owner and not passed on to the customer as a surcharge!

Cool space with delicious food. Bibimbap kept burning my mouth but was pretty good. Recommend the vegan nachos. Chocolate cake was something else.

First of all, not having reservations offered at all as on option turned out to be very poor for a fine dining restaurant as we arrived at 6:45PM but weren’t seated until 9:15PM. When we were finally seated, several of the menu items were unavailable. We then ordered a white wine, only to have it served at room temperature. We were then charged the extra for the replacement wine that we ordered. When the check was delivered, we found that they added a credit card surcharge before we even indicated that we were paying by credit card, and this was not not disclosed in advance. The food was good, but not worth the hassle.

Excellent quality, service, and menu choices. If you love chocolate cake, don't miss the King Dong! It's a decadent delight!

One of the best restaurants on our trip to Alaska. We started with the yam wedges, the halibut was our entre and dessert was king dong chocolate cake. All were just delicious.

Of all the places we ate in Alaska, this was the biggest disappointment by far. The hostess say the people in front of us outside (all the other tables were open) then she told us that there were only a couple of tables outside…sure… Would have been easily forgiven if the food had been good however even the hungry children agreed the food was “ok” which is uncommon (it’s usually at LEAST “good”). Would not recommend, bland food, ok service but with the higher Alaskan cost.

4.5 (more than just a 4)....The food and service was GREAT. I did read some reviews that rated this 3 or below, not sure what happened that night but ours was GREAT. As for best in Girdwood, not sure there are that many restaurants in Girdwood to choose from...very small town. I would recommend this restaurant, if you can get in and the wait is not too long. There is a drinking (waiting area) outside.

Loved being able to buy a liter mug of draft beer and sit outside by a real wood burning fire pit while waiting for table. Both me and my wife ordered the halibut , and it was cooked to perfection. We had vegan cheesecake for dessert that exceeded expectations.

I would love to give them 100 stars instead of the basic five. We were there for a wedding dinner - staff were incredible: friendly, efficient and so helpful. Management made the wedding dinner an absolute delight and success. Food was over the top excellent.

This place is awesome. My husband and I ate here 3/5 nights we were in Girdwood. Inside is super cool and filled with fun plants in the back room. Yam app is MASSIVE, but a must to try. I loved the Peanut Pan and Captain’s Catch (halibut) for mains. My husband enjoyed the bibimbop. Salmon as an addition to an app is beautifully cooked and absolutely mouthwatering—highly recommend! Kale salad is ok but needs some extras—gimme some beets, sweet potato, sunflower seeds, I dunno literally anything so it’s not just a big plate of leaves, as delicious as they were. We only got dessert one night (the King Dong), which was a delight. Great service and fun vibe—best place we ate at in Girdwood!

Really enjoyed the food, a good mix of vegan and carnivore dishes. The wait was a bit long, but I guess that is Alaska in summer

Sometimes it’s 11/10 food with unique specials that are amazing, other times it’s dry burger and dry cake. I previously gave a 5/5, best place to eat in Girdwood, but am unfortunately revising my review to the inconsistency. Between waiting an hour for a 15 minute estimate just for our seat to be given to someone else, and it not being the first time it happened, and the food inconsistency, I can’t wholeheartedly recommend this place. Bimbimbap is always good. Have had the burger when it’s good and it’s flavorful and well put together. Have also had a dry mess, and I wouldn’t have been surprised if it was a microwaved Kirkland patty. Cake has been fresh and delicious, and slapped together week old tasting dry. Have had some amazing specials here, too bad they haven’t been on the menu last couple times I’ve been here. On top of it all, expensive for what you get. Wait service is always good atleast. When it’s good, it’s good, but right now I regret not going somewhere else.

I will admit, I’m a foodie, so the below might seem too harsh. That said, JS is supposed to be the foodie’s restaurant in Girdwood. Copper River salmon way over salted and way over sauced. Salmon portion was very small. Pasta dish was way over sauced and salad was drowned in dressing. Dishes were not as described on the menu: endive and spinach salad had no endive ( the reason we ordered it) ; peach and rhubarb cobbler had no rhubarb (ditto). Server was sweet and helpful. Wine list was nice. Atmosphere was lovely. No cocktails. Beer & wine only, many of which they were out of.

The atmosphere and customer service is great. I really didn't care for the food. I've been wanting to eat here ever since I moved to Alaska seven years ago because I had been hearing good things. I didn't like the texture or taste of the salmon dip; it was too salty, the bread for the dip was just bad, the pickled veggies were ok. Captains catch was way too salty and the Basta Pasta; no salt. Last but not least the Root beer, I should've just ordered a coke. Will I go there again.... I don't know.
