Awesome crawfish during the season!!!

I drove quite a ways to try this place and the only thing I regret is not doing it sooner. These people care about their establishment and it shows. You can taste the love in the food, and the service is top notch. Bayou catfish is fantastic and the boudin balls awesome as well. I actually got emotional eating the cabbage side as it was just like my aunty Lou’s. Will definitely be coming back

This place is a hidden treasure. Outstanding food, and atmosphere. You want to go here if you like creole food. And if you've never had creole food, go here. Mom and Pope style place and veteran owned.

We visited in November 2023 and couldn't wait to eat here again on our return trip August 2024. Bring your appetite and prepare to enjoy some down home cooking.

LJ'z Backyard Bayou was just the meal I needed. I ordered dirty rice, cabbage, and pork/turkey neck bones—absolutely delicious!

Oh. My. Word. I’m so sad it took us this long to find this place. The food is INCREDIBLE. We got a turkey leg, catfish, the chicken pasta, red beans, cabbage, and boudin. Every single one of us enjoyed every bite (well, what we could finish. The portions are huge!) The bread pudding is easily one of the best desserts I’ve ever had in my life. I can’t wait to try more of the menu. We will absolutely be back!

Some of the best etoufee I have ever had in my life. And I say this with having family and deep ties to Louisiana. Dirty red beans and rice and boudin links were amazing as well. Extremely friendly service. I enjoyed sitting on the deck even as hot outside as it is right now. I will be back and 100% recommend!

They got the food right, but it lacks the flavor. Maybe if you're not from around Louisiana you'd enjoy this, but as someone who grew up in that area, this just ain't it. The people are very nice and the atmosphere is very back porch, which I personally see as just fine.

I was staying in Huntsville afew nights and used Google to see what my restaurant options were and found this place. It's about a 30 minute drive from Huntsville kind of in the middle of nowhere but well worth the drive Everything was GREAT. the only downside would be that they don't have fresh sweet tea (only bottled tea) but the friendly service & great food more than made up for it.

This is such a hidden gem! I’m so thankful we saw the articles about it, we will definitely be back. The food was absolutely phenomenal! The restaurant itself was absolutely precious and setup nicely. The prices were actually affordable, which is hard to find these days. They were pretty busy, but the guy that answered the phone still took his time telling me about their menu and was so kind. A woman from the back brought our food out when it was ready and she was also so friendly. I had read that they may have a longer wait time since a few recent articles have brought more customers, so we placed our order ahead of time just in case. But even so, they were pretty fast! It only took about 25 minutes (We only waited about 5 minutes once we got there) to get our food made and we ordered a whole lot! Even when we added some last minute desserts, it didn’t seem to slow things down. We did have to call a couple of times to get through and place our to go order, but that’s to be expected at a small restaurant with only a few employees during dinner rush. So, I’d just say to give it a few minutes and call again if you don’t get through the first time. The food is well worth some patience and a second call, I promise!

MANNNNNNNN! Where do I begin?! The food was off the charts 📊 EXCEPTIONALLY seasoned and perfectly cooked (time) fish and red 🫘 with rice dinner, along with potato salad! My gumbo and ETOUFFE was everything a LOUISIANA experience could offer…. Too bad I have no pictures of the wipeout 🫢⚠️🤣✨🫶🏾✊🏾😋 Go check this great establishment out.

I’m originally from Cajun country and the food is great, authentic Cajun cuisine. Crawfish were huge and very well seasoned. Can’t beat a shrimp poboy on fantastic Gambino’s French bread. A few things that could be improved is the attentiveness of wait staff and some dessert choices. Also, some blue crab on the menu would have me coming back every month! Oh, and an abundance of napkins with any boiled seafood.

I've spent a lot of time in Louisiana and is where I fell in love with Cajun food. LJz is absolutely the best in town. I had the catfish bayou with red beans and rice. My wife had the shrimp and catfish combo. Everything was amazing! We will definitely be back soon.

I experienced backyard bayou yesterday and I got crawfish, Neck and bones, boudin balls, shrimp, cabbage, red beans and rice and everything was delicious. I will be going back. I found my new cajun spot.😋😋💃🏿💃🏿

Went here on 4/28 and was impressed and satisfied on all accounts. Food was immaculate, service was fast, and the atmosphere was very appropriate for the “home-cooking” Cajun food that was served. I would highly recommend to anyone to go here and get food if you’re looking for authentic Cajun food. I have not been anywhere better than LJz.

This place is a hidden gem! My sister and I are foodies and always on a "food crawl". We were both pleasantly surprised at the taste of all the food we ordered. Will recommend and we will be returning. I had the "Sunday special"- shrimp 'n grits with fried fish and beingets. Crayfish mac(my true and only complaint is is wish it was more cheesy-BUT it did taste good), boudin, gator bites, cabbage, turkey wing.. all so tasty!

A bit upset, drove 1 1/2 hours to go to this place during said hours. We get there and closed, nothing on website. 1st and last time!!

Drove 2 hrs because of the reviews. Took a hour to get our appetizers (boudin balls) which had burnt spots on them. Then another 30 minutes for our main dish. We all got fish and shrimp which came out cold and the shrimp were like chewing on pieces of rubber. The only saving grace was the fish which was cooked perfectly and would have been a pleasure to eat had it not been cold.

Very good food and polite staff!! Wait time was explained and I was appreciative that this expectation was set. I will return!!

After passing this place multiple times my family and I finally stopped in today for lunch. We’ve been missing out! I instantly knew it would be good based on the smell from the kitchen. Together we tried the boudin links, shrimp and fish, crawfish étouffée, and the dirty red. Best crawfish étouffée I’ve ever had. Really good seasoning on the shrimp and fish. Everything was great and well worth the wait. We enjoyed the music they had playing and the atmosphere was laid back with friendly staff. We will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

Some great crawfish here! Service is a little slow, but it's a local place, not a chain, so you can easily overlook that. Great menu choices and nice folks.

Shreveport, LA girl here. This is great when I miss home. The owners are the friendliest. This last trip I got blackened catfish with crawfish etoufee; fried catfish with red beans, rice and andouille sausage; gator bites.

As a Mississippi native, I've tried a lot of Cajun restaurants in this area. LJz is the best Cajun food here for sure! The seasoning is unique, authentic, and always on point. Every visit is a treat. Great staff as well!

I can't say enough good about this place. I've eaten in and taken out. The owners seem like lovely people, the atmosphere is friendly, and the food is unbelievable. It's one of the only dining experience I've had where every new thing I ate was better than the last.

We came here for the first time today, and when I say that absolutely everything was amazing I am not overselling it. Boudin balls, fried gator, “dirty red” (red beans and sausage over dirty rice), crawfish etoufee, crawfish mac and cheese? All delicious. Everything tasted so fresh! Will definitely be back soon!

Was,craving some taste of home,"Baton Rouge",LA.My taste buds was pleasantly surprised, I could truly taste the patients in preparation also the seasoning was moderate to say the least. I did indulge, An ordered 3lbs of crawfish wich were small in comparison to the season just starting but packed a signature punch.An then I was drawn to the "Seafood Gumbo",classic in nature.Flavorful an yet hearty, would not have preferred the rice included,but not disappointed. Then I took home the Etoufee, to be continued.....

Oh my G. I am from New Orleans, and I been in Huntsville for two years now. I have never came across a franchise or chain restaurant with food this good like this place. Walk ons have nothing on them! This is the best restaurant 10/10 that can brag about their food & it’s New Orleans soul (low vibrations) plates. Seafood paste, dirty rice, red beans and rice, gator bites, shrimp, beignets are amazing. Only open on the weekends they are lucky I’ll be there everyday of the week if they were open on weekdays. Congratulations to this black own New Orleans family restaurant. Please continue to take your time when making food, it is delicious. I’ll wait 30-45 minutes for a plate from them, the outcome will be amazing and speechless 🤩🤩 & they offer military discount

The macaroni and crawfish was simply AMAZING. Staff was extremely happy and shared their joy with you during the visit. I'd recommend this venue to anyone who enjoys Cajun food.

As a Louisiana native, I know great Cajun food and this place is it!! As a transplant to Alabama, I never expected to find a restaurant of this caliber serving the food I grew up with. This restaurant is a family-run place and they were warm and welcoming on our first-time visit. We will definitely be back!! Laissez les bons temps rouler!!

Moved here from New Orleans a few years ago. Smell and look took me back. Small not fancy place with great tasting food with satisfying portions. Got the boudin balls and the Mardi Gras plate(chicken and andouille pasta). Recommend!

Incredible. The swamp potato was so flavorful and had the perfect fluffy baked potato with the perfect amount of seafood and the sauce was divine. I felt like I was transported back to NOLA with food and atmosphere. This place is a must!

The food here is fantastic. It is however small and stays really busy so the kitchen can get backed up. I would highly recommend looking at the menu online and calling ahead and you will have a great food experience

We had to wait an hour for just two shrimp and grits. I understand if they were busy but there were only two other other tables and had their good. It’s absolutely ridiculous. I kept asking how much longer because we couldn’t get a refund and she kept saying they are about to bring it out and that never happened. Y’all need to work on y’all’s customer service and efficiency. Also so expensive for unhappy customers

Came hungry to try, as someone from Louisiana I was happy to have some food from home near me! But when we arrived they had a closed sign up even though their poster said 11-8 and only one said 11-7 and when I called I got sent to voicemail

GO HERE! If you're looking for great Louisiana food, you will find it here. I am (admittedly) an etouffee snob, but their's is "Houston Appoved"! The boudin balls are a must try. Plan on waiting for your food. There's room to sit on the front porch, but limited dining inside. This is the best Louisiana cooking we've found in this part of the state. You will be impressed with the wonderful food.

We went here as a group and the food was delicious! My son had a shrimp poboy and I had the gumbo and crawfish Mac-n-cheese. Both were delicious! Take it from some who lived on the Gulf Coast and has had some terrific fresh seafood and gumbo. This was a huge hit outta the park! Super friendly, customer service A+++!!! Our group of 6 were served quickly and food was fresh, tasty, and arrived hot! We will definitely be back! **My son said the shrimp poboy was the best food he's ever eaten. 🦐🦐🦐 ***You gotta try the crawfish mac-n-cheese!
