My sons and I visited Matia in the middle of June and it was a great experience! The food and service were easily at a 1 Michelin star level. The food was unique and delicious! Definitely recommend this restaurant.

There is no doubt in my mind, I have never had a better meal than the one I was fortunate enough to enjoy last night. The most intricately and complimentary bold flavors have my mind and taste buds just REELING. I was lucky enough to enjoy the chef's menu with wine pairing. I really wish I was born into generational wealth and I could eat like this for the rest of my life. There is no better food that I've found in the Pacific Northwest. Food is incredible. And the service was perfection - everyone was so kind and immensely knowledgeable. Definitely starting to save up to go back as absolutely soon as I possibly can.

I celebrated my 40th birthday here. It was one of the best meals of my life. Literally. Every course was so incredibly exciting - we enjoyed 5 courses and marveled over each - the flavors, the beauty, the details, the science and the art of it all. Our server Emma weaved her craft and expertise to help decide on the meal - she is a stellar advocate for Chef Avery's creations and the beautiful places the ingredients they are sourced from. I wish she could have joined us actually. I was truly an amazing meal and evening. I hope I get a chance to dine here again.

Matia is now Matia Kitchen, just google that. Best restaurant on the island! This location is now correct but the restaurant is open.

Matia’s new location on Prune Alley in Eastsound is gorgeous, the dinner was next level, bonus that we can see the kitchen in action.

Amazing, best restaurant I’ve ever been to

Fantastic local food with unique flavor pairings. We were told the uni was caught locally by one of the servers friends. Very cool! The service is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We have been here twice now and every time the menu is new and fresh, but it’s always a treat to see what the chef has come up with to highlight the local ingredients. Our favorite dish of the night was a charred carrot panzanella, winter root pain d’epices, carrot top yogurt, savory yogurt and mint. The pain d’epices in particular was the best thing I’ve tried in the San Juan’s. The texture was moist and dense yet fluffy at the same time. Like a good banana bread but savory. Paired with the carrots and yogurt and we were in heaven. We hope our next trip to orcas includes a stop at Matia!

Excellent modern cuisine with fresh, mostly local ingredients. Great ambiance and the wine pairing with the tasting menu was absolutely perfect.

Matia, now in their new space on Prune Alley, is a gem of the Orcas Island community. Not only do they offer immersive dining experiences in a gorgeous and open space, but they also host moving and enjoyable artistic events for the public. We are thankful for their presence in Eastsound, as they are truly for locals and visitors alike. 💗

This was my favorite meal of 2022. The service, the setting, and most importantly, the quality of the food, are all excellent. The menu varies seasonally and you can tell that all of the produce is fresh and well-sourced. I went with a pretty large group so we were able to order almost everything on the menu at the time. Every single dish was so good but the cherry gazpacho was the absolute standout - one of the most delightful things I've ever eaten. Probably my favorite restaurant/meal in the PNW.

This was the most phenomenal culinary experience. I recently had the pleasure of dining at MATIA on Orcas Island and it was an absolute delight! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The menu at MATIA is full of creative and delicious dishes, all made with fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients. We started off with a sourdough pancake situation with various pickled/preserved elements. But perhaps the highlight of the meal was the pear chicory dish. There three different elements with the dish: sweet, bitter and brine-y. When you combine all elements together it was heaven in your mouth. Practically every dish had ingredients I might typically be wary of, but was ultimately magic when you took a bite. Overall, our experience at MATIA was truly wonderful. The food was delicious, the service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was perfect. For someone who normally doesn’t indulge in these experiences, I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try if you're in the Orcas Island area!

The experience was divine. Complex diversity of flavors. Beautifully crafted plates. Cocktails are fabulous. Servers get on your level and have great radio voices.

One-of-a-kind dining experience in a candlelight dwelling with a modern look and feel. Beginning with a whiskey cocktail with hints of sage and spice, there is ample time to peruse the menu and ask questions. In pursuit of the tasting menu, I stayed for over two hours trying various well-paired local fall offerings from oysters, squash, beets, soup, mole, and more. The servers are kind and extremely knowledgeable. Flavor pairings were simultaneously unlike anything I’ve ever tried and highly reminiscent of old food memories. The kitchen is very capable, producing magic on a plate and presenting it in an artistic way. I hope to make it back here again someday soon!

My husband and I were referred to Matia by a lovely lady serving us cider on the island. We are currently here celebrating my 40th birthday, so we took her advice and bellied up to the bar for dinner. What a WONDERFUL experience we had! Spencer was an incredible host throughout our meal and everything was insanely impeccable. The intricate flavors, delicious beverages and atmosphere were just what we were looking for to celebrate! Matia is truly remarkable. Located on the wonderous Orcas Island is an exceptional dining experince. The food quality and dining experince is inline if not better than several one-star Michelin restaurants in NYC that I have been to. In other words, Matia f*cks.

Always a delight to see what's on the menu. And always order the house made sourdough - the fruit compote served with it is always a delicious surprise and the butter 🧈 *chef's kiss*

Exceptional food and service. Very inviting. Complex menu easily navigated by friendly knowledgeable wait staff (Shawn). I would have loved to try anything on the menu but enjoyed every bite of the pumpkin confit with fall fruit mole. They make their own bread and serve it warm from the oven with creamed butter and homemade jams. Not to be missed! This is the spot for an amazing meal while in Eastsound. Make reservations.

What a delight! Creative plates for our vegan palates and exquisitely crafted cocktails. No doubt will be left as to why Matia earned a spot on the NY Times’ 50 most exciting restaurants of 2022 list. This gem is a must on your visit to beautiful Orcas Island!

Matia is absolutely an experience not to be missed. The food definitely deserves all the raves it's been getting, and it's also worth noting that the service we received could not have kinder, more attentive, or more helpful (particularly with finding a wine that we personally would truly enjoy with our entrees) while also managing to be not the least bit fussy or intrusive. The menu changes daily, I believe. (I didn't think to take a picture so I don't have full details on the menu item descriptions, sadly.) We started with green salad and an amazing plum gaspacho. We had a fingerling potato appetizer that was delicious, and for entrees we had local lamb chops and cod on delicious bed of greens and tomatillos . We shared a small and decadent dark chocolate dessert. Everything was excellent, with the play of flavors and textures continuing to impress throughout the meal. Pristine sourcing of local ingredients goes without saying, but the imaginative combinations are what will surprise and delight you. We were seated in the dining room for an early seating on a weeknight and the experience was extremely relaxed and enjoyable. Was impressed with the lovely redecoration of the space we locals remember as the former Chimayo's (long time casual tex-mex establishment); hard to believe you're in the same place. Very much looking forward to returning. Kudos to the Matia team!

Incredible dining experience. Menu changes daily based on what is fresh/seasonal as well as inspirational to the phenomenal chefs, Avery and Drew. Bar and natural wine selection is equally impressive and the service is top notch. The staff clearly love what they are doing and are so happy to have you there and that passion is apparent in the product. Do not miss out- go!!! Some walk-in seating available but go right at 5 when it opens as there is usually a line and inside tables are reservation only.

The best meal I’ve had this year by far. Matia served a dinner I’ll remember for a long time. The menu varies with the season and the whims of the owners. But what whims -- inventive combinations of ingredients and flavors that easily surpass the everyday offerings of other restaurants.

This was our first visit to the islands / Orcas and a Google search recommended this place. We made early reservations to get in and so happy we got to experience one of the best meals we’ve ever had - ever, not just on the islands. This is a “foodie” place for sure where the menu reads with creative complexity (my boyfriend fully admitted to our sever that we didn’t know what the menu was offering) but the words leave the menu with poetic presentation within each bite. I had the black cod / literally the best seafood dish I’ve had. They were also very kind and helpful with customizing the menu to my gluten food allergies which is always appreciated. I especially appreciated the locally-sourced ingredients.

Dinner at Matia exceeded expectations. The seasonal menu and cocktails were fantastic, the smoked carrots dish was the most memorable starter I've had in ages, and Spencer the bartender elevated our whole experience. I'd recommend sitting at the bar (but you won't go wrong otherwise) and interacting with the knowledgeable and friendly staff like Spencer.

Excellent food. Excellent cocktails. Friendly service. Pricier than most places, but it feels like you get what you pay for. Incredible flavors. The care and quality of everything is readily apparent.

Fine dining in a casual atmosphere, best restaurant on Orcas with dishes like heirloom tomato with white peach salad, and braised beef with cut long beans and toasted hazelnuts. The menu changes often and is always incredible. They scratch make their sauces, dressings, butter, and bread. Service was excellent and not too expensive given the quality of food.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Just all around a fabulous meal. We weren’t able to get reservations so sat at the bar. Reading the menu feels a little bit like reading another language, but it doesn’t even matter because you’ll be pleased with anything you order. We had the sourdough and the chicken liver mousse to start, then followed with the cabbage and rockfish which was complex and amazing, the lamb which was cooked to perfect and the exact right amount of lightness and comfort, and the grilled lettuce, which if you ask the servers tastes like an in-n-out burger if you close your eyes. We also finished with delicious dessert and the cocktails were also fabulous. Really just an amazing meal.

On Thursday evenings in Eastsound nothing much is really open but Matia is, and boy are we glad that it was! The menu is super unique, serving many dishes sourced entirely from the islands! I had the grilled squid, and my wife had a carrot dish whose name I could not even come close to pronouncing, and both were incredible! We also had their house made sourdough, with their house made butter and house made marmalade! They do it right, and they do it in house! The wait staff was incredible, and even gave my wife and I complementary glasses of sparkling wine as it was our honeymoon!

Really good local fare, great ambience, and abundance of quite attractive waitstaff.

Unbelievably wonderful meal last night. Having heard that Matias Kitchen was a James Beard finalist, we were curious but skeptical. Were we ever wrong. A cornucopia of local ingredients were used to create flavors and textures that constantly surprised and delighted. Repeatedly we were unable to find words to describe more descriptive lyrics than "wonderful" and "amazing." The meals were truly works of art. Thank you for such an experience.

We had an amazing dinner at Matia! The seasonal menu was a lot of fun to explore. We started with homemade sour dough bread with cultured butter & strawberry rhubarb jam. The bread was served warm and crusty! That was followed by an asparagus dish, super delicious squid, and a mousse dessert. All very good!
