Max's is absolutely fantastic! I've been there a few times, my most recent visit I wasn't feeling well and requested a soup - They didn't have it on hand but they were so kind and made it for me! They are beyond accommodating and the food is delicious.

Max's is always great! We order from here 2-4 times a month and the food is always awesome. The staff is very friendly and they really hustle to get your order right and on time. We really enjoy the desserts too!

Went in because it was decent rated and I got served something that was supposed to be 13 dollars which was the meatball with 2 sides and I asked if I can get onion rings on the side and the worker said I could but ended up charging me more than 15 dollars so I don’t know why it wasn’t states before he’d be extra charging me for the onion rings as a side. Food was pretty decent just kinda cold since I got it as take out

Second time I ate there, the first time I went I thought the food was great, came back a year later and they definitely stepped it up, absolutely delicious, the chef knows his or her stuff, I live about 40 minutes away but I will definitely be going there more often, 5 stars is not enough, I wish I could give more, give it a try, I highly, highly recommend it.

Followed them on TikTok and finally made it out to this smaller restaurant/quasi-deli. Food was top-notch. Felt bad for a young server that had to deal with some entitled customers. Still, this place handles such quite professionally. Loved the operatic version of "Despacito" that was played as background music, too. So, great place to eat and worth the trip out to Califon for it.

Great Sandwiches, the pasta is amazing but the best part about Max’s was their catering, I grabbed 5 different pieces of chicken out of the 5 tubs of catering I did for a party and they were all cooked the same and to perfection. I was truly impressed. Have you ever had their fresh out of the oven bread for their Italian subs? If you haven’t, then you honestly haven’t lived. 5 stars!

Really love this place. Food is excellent, service is really good as well. They have a great takeout menu with specials running all week. You really can’t go wrong dining in or taking out.

We had our first visit to Max's and had an early Sunday dinner there. I have to say it's your best bet in the area for authentic and delicious Italian food. We tried the calamari which was fresh and tender, and a special appetizer for the day which was sea bass stuffed mushrooms.. So good. Our meals were equally delicious and dessert was awesome. They had these little cheesecake cones that I'm obsessed with now. Anyways, the service was very welcoming and the restaurant was nice, clean and it's BYOB with a liquor store right next door. I'll be back to try lunch next time, and they cater too which is good to know! Highly recommend.

Great, authentic Italian food. Can get crowded on the weekends but you can always resort to takeout which offers a large selection of freshly made food. You can never go wrong.

We got catering from Max’s this past weekend (chicken parm, wings, roasted veggies, salad) and it was seamless. Food was delicious and they were great with communication (our changes). Would strongly recommend for your next party! Thanks Max’s!

I picked up a Max’s salad to bring home for dinner. It was FABULOUS!! My first time here. I will be recommending this to all my friends and family. And I can’t wait to go back for dinner!!! The liquor store next door has great wine selections as well!!

The pizza was ok. I prefer the sauce less sweet. It was a bit acidic for my taste. The pasta fagioli was the BEST!!

Corned beef and cabbage was just excellent! Huge portion and such a great quality of corned beef. Everything looked wonderful. My friend had a roast beef sub and he was very happy. I've been coming here for years. Highly recommended!

Wow, this place is absolutely amazing. The food is delicious and unique, the wait staff is attentive and on point. The cuisine flavors are on point. I.had a pork chop with sausage and peppers, all I can say is wow. The byob policy is perfect with the liquor store next door. I would highly recommend. The owners care about this place and it is visible through their food and service.

What a hidden gem! I wish they would open a place in NYC because they would kill it there! It's a shame to be in such a remote location where only locals and whoever happens to be going through the area may visit, but maybe they like it like that...we will certainly make the drive to come back! Amazing Pierogi, mozzarella sticks, burger, sweet potato fries and paninis are outstanding! Everything is fresh and cooked to perfection. The tiramisu will bring you back begging for more! Don't let the outside fool you, go inside and discover one of the best meals you've ever had! I guarantee it!

Excellent food and service. Came here from ny after visiting a farm nearby. Some of the freshest calamari and seafood I have ever tasted. All the food was fresh and delicious. Very nice ambiance for family dinner or a date. byob and there’s a liquor store literally next door, perfect. If your thinking of coming here think no more, you won’t regret it.

Love it here! The food is amazing!

I have really come to love this place. We came in and tried some of their paninis for takeout and have since purchased catering platters for a graduation party, and I am eating their fettuccini Alfredo while I type this. What keeps me coming back is the quality of the food you get here for the price.

We use Max's for all our family parties and the food and service are always excellent. We found him several years ago when we had unexpected guest come to our house for christmas and we needed more food. No place was open and some suggested Max's. They helped us out and I greatly appreciated it.

Amazing quality pizza, especially their spicy pepper pie, yum! We're pretty new to the area and they immediately made us feel welcome during the early pandemic days. I am the grandson of Max, not the owner, but the 91 year old gentleman, whom these wonderful people have graciously taken care of since my grandmother had passed. I live out of state and can only visit so often with my wife and children. The closest family is 30 minutes away and has been fear stricken by the pandemic, limiting their visits. He says he goes 3-4 times a week but I understand it to be almost every night. I can never begin to thank everyone there enough for all of their hospitality and kindness throughout the past few years. Eating dinner there is always something he looks forward to, along with the wine, and it reminds him of his sweet wife, and my loving grandmother. He is fortunate to have found such loving and kind folks at this late stage in his life, and our family is forever greatful for this. So if you decide to dine in and you happen to see my grandfather, or sit in Max's Corner if he isn't there as he tends to eat dinner around 5pm, say hello, and do speak up, as he had lost his hearing from his service in the army and from his years as a builder building homes in the Central NJ area. Also, the food is always delicious. L'chaim.

Max's was recommended to us by a family member and we are glad we went to check it out for a recent dinner. The market and restaurant were very busy which is always a good sign. We ordered the Thai calamari for an appetizer and it was absolutely delicious. Our entrees were good too. Service was top notch and of course we always love the BYO option. Will definitely come back to try more of the menu.

This restaurant is 5 star for dine in, take out and catering. We have done it all here and have never been disappointed. They catered our sons graduation party in the summer and just did a holiday party for us this weekend. The guests really enjoyed Nonna’s Comfort selection that included 4 entrees , salad, bread and tray of beautiful cookies! The delivery was on time and everything nice and hot! Highly recommend Max’s for pizza pick up, lasagna and meatballs dine in or catering for 10-100. Call them today!

Delicious, fresh food. Waitress(can't remember her name) is very friendly and great with our 1 year old daughter! Owners are just as friendly and personable. Highly recommend!

I had Max's many years ago in Flemington & loved it. Was in NJ today & went out of my way to stop in Max's in Califon, NJ. Not disappointed, I bought roasted pork & a couple sides, an eggplant dish & garlic rolls. Everything was delicious. And a serving is enough for 2 meals.

Brought our friends here who were visiting from Texas. We had pork chop milanese . Was awesome choice. They absolutely loved their dinner. The food is very consistent.

The food at Max’s is so delicious. A must try is the eggplant lasagna. Scrumptious. It’s literally the best I’ve had next to my bff homemade version. The food is fresh. They also have a sit down and eat in section that looks like fine dining. And on top of it all the people are polite. That’s seems to be hard to find today in the services.

I am close friends with a lot of the staff now because I've been going for a few years. Quick and polite service. Very accomadting and the food is great too. I would highly recommend the burata and prosciutto. Their out food is good too. There is a little grocery store essentials part of the store where you can get some high end pasta noodles milk cheese and things like that. They also cater parties; they made all the food for my graduation party and it was great.

An absolute gem in the tucked away town of Califon. From the pizza, to the lunch menu sandwiches and 'grab & go', to the dinner entrees... I have yet to even remotely disappointed. Max himself even made me a margherita pie when the restaurant was closed on New Year's Day, as I had wandered while they were cleaning. Class. Favorites are the white pie with sausage/spinach/garlic, the eggplant parm, and the porcini gnocchi.

Califon has many pizzas to offer. If you want the best quality food, it is Max's. Love the grandmas pie and his hot sandwiches especially.

The food was great. The service was above par. If I ever go back to NJ I plan to eat there again, just not on Mother's Day because it was way too crowded.
