Having lived 20+ years in SoCal, I know great authentic Mexican food and this ain't it. I was immediately disapointed with the salsa and guac. The salsa was bland, like no heat at all, and the quac came refrigerator cold and slightly gray, like it was made that morning... definately not fresh. Guacamole must be made to order, or better yet, tableside. Salsa and guac, these are the basics, and they serve as key indicators of what is to come. So, predictably, the burito was huge but had little flavor or personality; my 80 year old mother liked it though, and the bland salsa. My fajita was just sad... very mushy veg, onion and green pepper only, and the so called steak was thin and mushy too. No seasoning that i could detect. Seriously, i have had way better fajitas at El Toritos. Way better. On the upside, the decore and atmosphere was fun and festive. There was a countdown to cinci de mayo at the bar, clever. Bartender said they were planning a tequila tasting on that day. Sounds like fun. I might attend that, but I am looking for a real authentic mexican restaurant with hommade molé poblano on the menu. That is the ultimate indicator of a great restaurant, the molé. The only place I know of that did it right was in Sodus, believe it or not, but the owner has closed for good, a well earned retirement. Any recommendations?

Service as great, unfortunately, the food was a huge disappointment. The rice tasted like nothing, beans were very runny and the little chip they came in was stale. My chimichanga was very small for the price you pay, and I only got 1 of them, queso was very runny. For cheaper prices per dish, bigger portions PLUS better tasting food, you can go to Canandaigua or even Farmington for better Mexican. We will never go back here.

Placed my order and waited 25 minutes, nothing. People that came in after me were served. I walked out. Total disappointment and wasted lunch hour.

Bad review from me, we arrived at 8:58 and it closes at 10,When we went to the door it was locked and the waiters straight up just ignored us i haven't tried the food but based on the customer service i give it a 4/10 i hope this place gets a better attitude and customer service,also not to mention there was a couple eating in.

The food was top notch. Incredibly good! Massive portions. Kira our waitress is crazy nice and friendly! The Birria fries are incredible and you get so much. The chicken fajita quesadilla is amazing.

Excellent food. If you like it spicy, ask them for their home-made hot salsa. It’s HOT! Service is wonderful. The owner (Omar) is a great guy, too.

This place is gross. I can't figure out who thinks it tastes good or why or how it has 4.8 stars. You can't trust Google reviews. The chips were thick and had no salt, plus you were limited to 1 basket or pay extra. We got a quesadilla for the kids and the beans had a weird spice in them. The mini chimichangas appetizer was super basic with a cheese sauce that was dried over the top. The burritos had some awkward Italian spices in it. It was just bad.

My first visit to Mecate on June 4th for lunch was fabulous. I had the best traditionle burrito. It was made perfectly and I couldn’t wait to have the opportunity to visit again. Visited again for lunch on June 21st. I ordered the same burrito but it was made completely differently. Ingredients that were not listed on the menu such as French fries, guacamole, etc were in the burrito. I thought they gave me someone else’s order but it was not. I did not call the restaurant as I had appointments I had to get to. I’ll try it again hoping it was a one off experience with the error in my second visit.

If you want a hotter salsa for your chips just ask for one and they’ll bring you some. If you get Colin as your server you’re in for great service!

The food here is pretty good. I really enjoyed the shrimp. The salsa is too mild, but the chips are thick and taste good. The service was very good. Our server was very friendly. The guacamole was really good.

Great spot. We ordered the guacamole, it came in mountain form. Lol. I had the street tacos, (recommended by our server) and they were DELICIOUS! Will definitely come back next time I'm in the area...

Amazing food and BIG portions for such a fair price. Every bite was delicious and Omar was an excellent server. Would recommend to anyone who wants authentic Mexican cuisine at a good price!

Fantastic people and food. Food was prepared and to our table fast and the food itself was perfect. Josh, our waiter, was very nice and had a great attitude the entire time. They even gave my wife and I free dessert for my birthday. Would definitely come again!

Tasty and relatively inexpensive.

Came in around 6:30 and got sat right away since we were only a two top (we got lucky). We’ve had the same server twice and she’s such a sweetheart! Food has been great, atmosphere is great, very happy to have them nearby and definitely hope they’re around for a long time!

Food was great and LOVE that they put the refried beans in a hard shell bowl. Service and atmosphere were nice, but only 2 stars on the margaritas which is mainly where I had to deduct a star.

The shrimp tacos I had were delicious I wish I had taken a picture of my plate the presentation was great. The staff were friendly.

Surprisingly good Mexican food in Macedon of all places. I had some birria here a while back and was not impressed. Went back because I like to try placed twice, just in case I was there on an off night. The 2nd time I was there was much better. I had a california burrito and it was huge and tasty. But the star of the evening was the carne asada my dad ordered. That was marinated, flavorful, and incredibly tended. I will definitely be ordering that next time I'm there.

Great service but the food has become a bit worse since coming here. The steak fajita meat was dry and curly like it was very thin strips that were fried not grilled. Their queso bowl is huge and so good. We ordered the chicken fajita quesadilla and the steak fajitas.

Great addition to this busy corner. Hopefully this place sticks. Great burritos and drinks.

Absolutely the best Mexican food in the county. The margaritas are always great, food is always fresh, and the atmosphere is the best. This is one of our permanent date night spots now!

Excellent Mexican food. Love the enchiladas, in all the options. Good margaritas, including a mezcal option. Menu is very similar to other places in the region, but the food is delicious. Service is prompt. Small space, small bar, but very good quality.

This was recommended to us by a local when we were traveling. It hit the spot for a great lunch prior to leaving town. The tacos and fajitas were very good. The spicy shrimp was pretty spicy. We were put into a back corner where there wasn't much atmosphere to speak of, but it was clean and quiet.

We had an awesome late lunch. Everything was fresh and the meals were so big we lots of leftovers. The wait staff were very polite and friendly. We will be going back soon.

We have had dinner at Mecate in Macedon twice. Each time we found the food, service, and drinks to be excellent both times. We rarely order drinks, but after having their standard frozen margaritas on our first visit, we will continue ordering them as they are the best we have had in the area.

Been here several times always on point . Make you feel at home the Queso and margaritas are amazing. Service is quick and always friendly . Highly recommend trying them out. Son un éxito

A friend blessed us with a gift card and said they go there alot. The staff was friendly in greeting us, got quick service. There was just small mess up on my order I asked for no sour cream and I got it all over my taco toppings. The mini chimes are where it's at tho. Definitely will be going back and trying more of there dishes.

Server was friendly and attentive. Food came out pretty quickly after order put in and was very tasty. Refried beans were served in a little corn taco bowl. Clever.

Have ordered Pick Up a few times. Food is ready with 20 minutes and is hot! The price is very reasonable for the amount of food that you get. Ive had the birria tacos a few times burritos Nd steak tacos always good 😊 Every time i come in to pick up staff are nice 👍 will keep coming back

1st time eating at this wonderful place. The food, staff and drinks are outstanding and great atmosphere. The Birria tacos are the best around. Very flavorful and filling. Jalapeño Margarita is outstanding. This will be a regular stop for lunch and dinner.

Came during the Sat dinner rush wait wasn't too long but we decided to sit at the bar. Bartender was fantastic and busting her butt so props to her! Food came out in a timely manner. I had the shredded beef enchiladas and they were so yummy! I also had a large frozen peach margaritas which was super yummy although I couldn't really taste any alcohol. Would def visit again!

My wife and I went to Mecate Mexican Restaurant to enjoy their Camaron Veracruzano. It was very good. The reason that I gave it an overall rating of 4 stars is the price. In my opinion, it is a little expensive. Otherwise, it was great!

Absolutely delicious! Decided to try a new place for my birthday dinner with the family. Our server was awesome, thank you, Josh!!! My 2 year old even enjoyed himself for 95% of the time, he was ready to go at the end of our meal, typical. Highly recommend!!! Will definitely be returning.

My girlfriend and I visited here last night for a late dinner after she drove in from Indiana. The service was quick and the food delicious. We both liked the salsa serving bottle they use so each person may have their own salsa dish prior to the meal's arrival, allowing them to double-dip tortilla chips without risking contamination or social ostracism. Our waitress - sorry, I cannot recall her name - was nice and affable even at the end of a late Monday shift. Great humor and very welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and I nearly laughed aloud when our server asked if we'd like dessert; I don't think either of us could have fit another bite. My girlfriend took some of her food to go and it reheated nicely for lunch today as she worked on writing her dissertation. Highly recommend and plan to visit again!
