Very romantic and fancy restaurant perfect for special occasions. The food however was a bit underwhelming for me. The smoked salmon amuse bouche was the best thing we had during the meal. We ordered the tartine and I felt it had a bit much of the white sauce on the bottom that it overpowered the mushrooms on top. Then we ordered the lamb because it is one of their most popular dishes but I was not very impressed. It’s a solid rack of lamb don’t get me wrong, it just seemed like something more could’ve been done. Also the veggies that came with the lamb have literally no seasoning BUT the cheddar grits were really delicious!! Super sweet staff that was able to split the rack of lamb into 2 portions for me and my partner. Overall I don’t think we will be back because the food was a bit underwhelming.

We had a 745pm reservation last night and we were not seated until just past 815pm. Host said they had large parties and were doing there best. Offered us to wait at the bar area or by host area. We couldn't wait in bar area nor get anything to drink so we waited by the host stand. She eventually brought us menu to look at but that just really bothered us as I felt rushed and I'm not even seated yet. The smart thing to have done would have been to bring us a drink menu and offer to get us something given our 30 minute wait. Small gestures and thought go a long way in service industry. Eventually we are seated. Given our real annoyance with the wait i don't think it's fair to rate our server as nothing at that point was over coming the wait and lack of thought. The food was fine. Nothing really blew me away but the lamb was good. 3 glasses of wine was $100 and that's a bit excessive. This was our first time going and might be our last. Bad service will always beat out good food

First, my wife and myself tried to come out to have a nice anniversary dinner and i can say that the atmosphere and service were very good, even though I got water spilled on me from the waitresses tipping over my water glass. But instead of cleaning the mess up, they just layered napkins on the table and left it. Then I ordered the pork chop that was on special and when it came out rare as the picture shows. And they just decided to take it back to the kitchen and microwave it and bring it back out nice and dry. Then my wife ordered the filet medium rare and it came out rare at best, but with my experience they would just throw it back into the microwave and serve it again. This place is a definite one and done and not worth the amount they are charging.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at this restaurant, and we had an unforgettable evening. From the drinks expertly mixed at the bar to the delicious food, everything was top-notch. The food was underwhelming and undercooked. I got filet medium and it was completely raw. They cooked it longer and then it was dry. Then I ordered a mushroom appetizer that was gross. It literally was un-toasted bread with rubbery mushrooms in crème. I told my husband it tasted like rotten ‘chipped beef on toast.’ Management was unconcerned and made no attempt to save the evening. I had to stop on my way home for food. Even the bread basket wasn’t tasty! The place they seated us first was a blown-out booth seat. I watched them sit 3 couples in the same spot and they all moved seats. This place was basically empty, and it was clear why. I will never go back.

Came here to celebrate my birthday. We were very excited after reading the reviews. The service was great. Everybody was very nice. Our servers were very attentive. The food on the other hand was mediocre. When spending $200 for dinner and the french fries were the best part of your meal…I think that says a lot. Unfortunately, I won’t be back.

My wife and I had an exemplary experience. The ambience was refined and upscale. The food was unique and had diverse ingredients that really were an “adventure for the palate”. Their cocktails were interesting, my wife had the Muay Thai and it was delicious. They have an amazing bourbon and wine selection if you want to have something less craft. We started with the tartine and an off menu yellow fin tuna crisp that came with a kalamata vinegarette. The tartine was a show stopper. I had the signature rack of lamb dish and my wife had the salmon. Both were excellent. We finished with the guava panna cotta and it was easily one of the most delicious desserts ive ever had. Our serve Melissa S was amazing. 10/10, can’t wait to come back.

The menu, food and drink, was unique. Combinations of flavors we have not seen making it more enjoyable. Everything was presented beautifully and tasted fantastic. The staff was very polite and professional. Our server was funny and gave thoughts on her favorite items. We had the scallops and the lamp for dinner. The Tartine started us off and man it was fantastic!

It's been a while since we visited Mise en Place and we are SO glad we did. The atmosphere is a relaxed contemporary feel. Our waitress (Brittany)(sp?) was extremely knowledgeable and truly guided us through the menu and available wine pairings. She is an asset to the establishment. The food was excellent and I recommend the seared duck as well as the fried green tomato salad with crab. The chef comes out to check on things as well as the manager and we enjoyed speaking with both. The wine list has shrunk but the selections are still very good. This is clearly one of the best restaurants in Tampa. It is worthy of five stars on Google and worth every penny. You will want to make reservations and take your time to savor the experience. Enjoy!

Went to Mise en Place for my birthday and was not disappointed. The dining room is so romantic and service was fantastic. The shrimp app was perfection. I got the signature rack of lamb and was blown away. Every morsel of it was scrumptious. My boyfriend got the special Iberico pork and enjoyed it just as much. Highly recommend this place for a special date night.

Food was ok and not as good as would have hoped for given the hype and the price point. Menu was large and I feel the server lead us the wrong way on our appetizers we even had one she recommended we didn’t even finish. Service was slow and our amuse bouche came out as the same time as our appetizers which ruined the entire intention of the amuse bouche. The entrees were good size potions but most were very rich and hard to finish. Would not be going back anytime soon especially with all the other food choices in Tampa now.

I had the honor to be invited for dinner yesterday at the Mise en Place Restaurant . This is one of the best restaurants in tampa if you want to have a great and delicious meal. I had the pizza for appetizer followed by the Fried green tomatoes salad with salmon. Every bite was so delicious. The staff were courteous and very attentive to our need. Chef Marty is highly recommended Mise en Place restaurant needs to be on the number one place to eat when visiting tampa.

Last night I had a reservation here for dinner for two. When I showed up, apparently there was a miscommunication in the system (between the restaurant and OpenTable) and they did not have the reservation on the books and they were completely booked for the night. Instead of telling us "too bad so sad" and sending us out the door and ruining our planned evening, they had us sit down in the side room and offered to get us a glass of wine and told us they would see what they could do. Within 5 minutes, they found us a seat at the bar to have our planned dinner. We had a lovely evening with fantastic food and great service. I will say that most places would probably not have handled it this way, but they went out of their way to accommodate us and make sure we had a terrific evening and it was much appreciated. Just for this reason alone, we will be back!

I've been to Mise En Place many times over the years. This particular visit was not up its usual excellence due to some food issues and service inconsistency. Our server, who I won't name here, was young and a bit inexperienced. They didn't know the details of some of the dishes and wines. While they were willing to get the answers, I'm used to very experienced...almost expert... wait staff at Mise. The shrimp appetizer was excellent, perfectly prepared and a depth of interesting flavors. The duck I ordered was not prepared to the temperature I requested (not even close) and I made the mistake of attempting to eat it rather than send it back, because I didn't want my meal to get significantly out of sync with my dinner companion. Our dessert was a S'more torte which had a nice toasted marshmallow flavor, but had a overly firm texture and was generally uninteresting. Our service was attentive during the first half of the meal, but we felt abandoned in the back half. Twice I had to flag down someone to help us. I hold Mise up to the highest of standards, because I've had some of my absolute BEST restaurant experiences there. All in all, this not a great experience for Mise... I've had much better experiences there and I will hope for better next time I go.

It's nice to see creative vegan options. The jerk tofu dish was fulfilling. The delicata squash was the best part. However, when I arrived the hostess wasn't welcoming. I asked to be seated for 1. She looked me up and down and suggested the bar. I insisted on dining at a table. She told me that they were booked until 8 pm for a table for 1. So I went along with the bar. As I waited to be seated I made a reservation for myself at 7:15 pm. I remembered checking to see if I needed to RSVP before arriving. They had so many slots available. I was seated at the bar. Luckily, there were a few guests that were engaging which made my dining experience pleasant. I just got the vibe that they didn't think I belonged in their establishment. As I left I noticed I received a text from her asking if was I still coming for my reservation. I responded, "I just left." I found it quite interesting how the empty restaurant was booked and they were desperate to know if my incognito self was still going to show up.

I was extremely disappointed with our experience there on 2/3/24. We came in to try it out, since we are looking for a place to host our rehearsal dinner. The entrees came out well over an hour after the appetizers, and they were completely cold. We were not impressed by any of the food items either. At some point after the appetizers arrived, our server completely stopped checking on us and barely apologized for the wait when she brought our food. Especially for the price point, this restaurant is a poor value. Expect to spend $70-150 per person depending on if you get drinks or not.

We received a champagne toast to start the evening food was delicious , service exceptional and ended the meal with a french press, brownie sundae with candle and happy birthday written on chocolate.The host remembered my husbands name and wished him happy birthday as we left. Pros: Steak served Medium Well was very Tender & the Fries were good. The Waiters were very nice and attentive the Chocolate Cheesecake was pretty yummy. Cons: I made a Reservation on Resy for one and when I arrived at the restaurant The Hostess told me I would be sitting at the Bar. I told her no I booked a table. It would be nice for it not to be assumed that I’d want to sit a bar and eat just because Im single. I had to wait to be seated while she had to ask someone if I could sit at a Table. When I arrived the booth in the corner was free and I wanted to sit there I was told no because it was saved for people celebrating an anniversary. Happy for them but I am no less important than someone with a date and should be able to sit there if I arrived first. There was white paper over the white table cloths which is unacceptable and just cheap. The Steak Frites had a horrible Vinegar Sauce with it. Steak Frites is supposed to come with a Peppercorn Steak Sauce. I am open to new things but the sauce wasn't even good. I was hoping for the best but the seating situation has left a bad taste in my mind so its a no for me.

Average food at best, the appetizers were mediocre nothing special and the entree's lacked balance, I have experienced better at restaurants such as Kojo, or Meliora where the food comes with a more extravagant flavor. This is your average restaurant that is overpriced, lacking pure quality control. The only good part coming in the service which got the orders perfectly and made sure that my allergies were known.

This was my first time trying out this restaurant. I have been wanting to try rack of lamb for a while. The presentation, texture, and flavor on the molasses pecan crusted rack of lamb was incredible. I was also impressed with the oysters and korean argentina red shrimp crab pancake. The service was superb and ambience comfortable.

Outstanding service, ambiance, and fantastic food presentation. Had the rice noodle bowl, i very disappointed in the overwhelming spicy heat of this dish. The heat was so overwhelming, it overshadowed any spices, and flavor of the food....any other flavors could not come through because of the raw heat. The noodles and other ingredients was cooked perfectly, however the sauce was very watery....not how it is described on the menu as a glaze. If this dish was prepared properly, I employ the Chef to taste a good portion of it. Based on the great reviews, I must have chosen the wrong dish.

Pros: * Beautiful restaurant * Top-notch service, very attentive servers * Mise burger FTW! (Minus the onion ring) * calamari was a safe appetizer choice. * Rosemary biscuits were yummy. Cons: * zucchini blossoms were very oily for my taste. * Ribye entree was a mess. No seasoning what so ever on the steak, very chewy. Parsnips were very hard, i couldn’t cut it with my cutlery. * Chocolate basque cheesecake dessert: MAJOR LETDOWN! I was looking forward to this dessert but it was quite dense. Basque cheesecake has been trending on social media as the best cheesecake for their luscious light and creamy filling. This was nothing like it. Overall, my friend and I spend over $170 for rather mediocre meal. Just come for the burger, omit the rest.

The host was rude and arrogant. It was my daughter's graduation dinner, and we were sitted in a dark area but had reservations for the back. If you have a tone other than white, then please find somewhere else that's worth it because they will give you looks and make you feel like you dont belong. Expecting important business associates for dinner, vetted Mis en Place in advance early one Friday night. I was glad I did. Having heard so much about how good MeP was, I can only say how disappointed I was in our entrees presentation, preparation and flavor. We looked at each other and asked rhetorically "This is one of the best Tampa has to offer?". It wasn't. My impression was that Mis en Place is resting on its reputation and was simply phoning it in that night. Unfortunately, I'm not inclined to go back.

This Tampa institution has stood the test of time. It ranks as one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. I have been dining at Mise en Place for a long time and never wrote a review. It’s time I correct that glaring omission! This place has given my so much joy over the years. It’s hip yet familiar and comfortable in a way that I always feel at home here. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and the food is amazing! My favorite way to eat when I dine at Mise en Place is tapas style. I usually go with a few friends and we order about six or seven appetizer plates. Some of my favorites include, the LA Pizza with mushroom, mascarpone, pine nuts, kale & truffle; I also love the tartine with mushrooms, whipped brie, grilled sour dough and fried cipollini onions; and, I always have to order the cornmeal crusted oysters and the fried green tomato salad! The wine selection is excellent so our meals always include a nice glass of wine or two. I love Mise en Place! I’ll be back again soon!

Was really looking forward to this staple. Was expecting a Michelin star level restaurant but was so disappointed by the food and the service. My snapper looked and tasted like it had been sitting under heat lamps for an hour. Wine list was not updated and “sommelier” came with some replacement that had nothing to do with what we had ordered. Service was meh. It felt that this place is resting on their laurels and with the prices they charge, I can’t imagine it will last long. I don’t even want to give them another chance, there are so many other new places to try in Tampa and St Pete. Why would I bother?

Stellar French modern experience, great food and delicate flavor profiles. We had a seasonal soup last winter that was incredible - can’t find a photo but so rich and balanced but outrageous flavor. The crusted rack of lamb and scallops were fantastic also!

Great food, drinks and service but had to dock a star for ambiance. I felt as if I was eating in a poorly laid out furniture show room, which made the experience very strange. Highly recommend the Yuki O-ren cocktail though since it’s delicious and comes with a little sword!

Great ambiance, especially the waiting area, bar, and back room. Wonderful service from each member of the staff. Unfortunately, the food was much too varied in its ingredients and preparation to even approach excellence. The truffle and mushroom tartine appetizer and the scallop entree were superb, the truffle fries were good but not great, and they should have been embarrassed to serve the veal. The entire point of keeping a calf prisoner and feeding it milk is to create veal that is extremely tender. I was served a piece that was so full of gristle that in places one would have had to saw for quite a while to get through. So, while one can get a pretty good meal here, don’t expect the uniform quality that denotes an exceptional dining experience. Great meals start with top ingredients. That’s a lesson of which Mis en Place has apparently lost track.

Wow! This eloquent restaurant impresses as soon as you walk into the door and it doesn't stop till the last bite of a perfectly crafted dessert. The duck breast just melts in your mouth and the buttermilk Blue Crab appetizer was so unique in presentation as well as texture. The cocktails are well crafted and refreshing. The bourbon list was fantastic. There is free parking in a garage across the street if you can't find a spot on the street. Service was spectacular and attentive to everything we needed. This is by far one of the hidden gems of the downtown Tampa area. You want fancy and worth the cost of an exquisite fine dining experience? This is your place.

In the Bay Area there is no shortage of upscale restaurants but honestly there is no place better than Mis en place.. we've eaten there many times and everytime we've taken guests along, they always say something like "this feels like we're eating dinner in a movie restaurant". So you can make your own decisions but remember it's up to you if you want an experience that can last a lifetime.

This was a lovely dining experience. It has become one of my favorite restaurants in the Tampa Bay area. I got the rack of lamb, which was very good. I would pass on the calamari next time. I tried some of the seafood pasta, and it was good as well. The lemon sauce emulsion for the bread was my favorite thing there! The dessert was very good. The menu prices might be on the higher end, but the quality, ambiance, service, and vibe make it worth trying.

Chef Marty, Maryann and the team hav3 been feeding me Mise en Place for 25 years. Consistently among the best restaurants in Florida. Great food, wine, cocktails and service. Marty was the first local chef to open a gourmet chef:driven market & eatery but it was too early for Tampa. The two have been a positive force for local, small businesses, helping their employees grow their careers into other roles and likely far more positive things to recount here. Highly recommend! Located across the street from University of Tampa.

My sister and I spent NYE with other friends and staff of Mise en Place. I can not even begin to describe the decadence of the menu from start to finish. The Champagne lovely but the staff...they were so spot on. Chef Marty was greeting guests when he could, Patrick, Dave, everyone made this a truly memorable New Year. We began our 2023 in style.

The ambience of the restaurant was very quiet and the decor and theming was not cohesive. The menu was way overcrowded and felt overwhelming to chose from. The food, while delicious, was not worth the price. Our waiter was not attentive, especially considering there were about 5 other tables in the entire restaurant. He didn’t tell us the specials or explain anything to us. There was also a roach on the floor that I told the staff about so they could pick it up. Definitely not worth the price and will not be returning.

Just excellent from the moment you walk in the door. A true culinary delight. Try the fresh lobster nachos to start, a hand crafted cocktail, seared red snapper with cheese chili grits. It was a rainy night, and finally a night with no kids…Though they had zero reservations online. I popped in and asked the host if he had a table for two. The older host with nice combed over sleek hair said he could seat us and was so kind to give us an inside scoop where we could park. Inside I was ecstatic. With crumbs on my bench side and a dried noodle at my elbow. I gently swept it off to the ground. These things were not going to affect my experience. We were greeted quickly by a clean cut, bald young man. He was friendly, and seemed happy to be at work. All things I like in a server. We started with a mock tail, cocktail and calamari. It was perfect. Entrees followed duck and snapper. I didn’t taste the duck but my husband didn’t leave a bite on his plate. Again, it was perfect. A crème brûlée ended the meal. Creamy, crunchy top, warm at the first layer, the sugar not too burnt. It was heaven in a bowl with a crisp cookie on the side. The evening filled with delicious food and people watching was just perfect. I can’t wait to return in October for my birthday. I can’t wait to bring my mom from Miami next month. I cannot wait to take my kids. Mise en Place is 5 stars, period. ❤️ I know this because I want to share my experience with everyone I know.
