Y’all. The tuna in the bento box was some of the best fish I’ve ever had. Sam was a great waiter and very informative. We got the Spicy Lobster roll and the Salmon Lady II roll. With the bento box, we got a miso soup that my mother exclaimed was the greatest she’d ever had.

No New York City sushi chef could surpass the unbelievable trio of quality, innovation and meticulous attention to detail as the Miyake crew! Care to compare akami, chutoro and otoro? They can boast; they have all three. Saba and aji mackerels? Again, bragging rights -- they have both AND a mackerel roll! And a phenomenal "salmon lady" roll, killer lobster (local) roll, ceviche roll, and the appetizers are obscenely good! Sam was well versed on the menu and served as a fantastic host. Washroom was impeccably clean, and all the staff contributed to an upscale yet unpretentious vibe. MIYAKE is all the reason you need to visit Portland! Hands down, this is THE best sushi between upper New England and South Florida!

Beautiful restaurant in Portland with delicious and thoughtfully crafted Japanese food. My fiancé had the sashimi and it was delicious. The duck buns were out of this world, as were the scallops with celeriac purée. The service was excellent, knowledgeable about the food and drink options and checking in, but not hovering. Thanks for an incredible meal!

We got the lobster egg drop soup as an appetizer which was really good - very light. For the main course my husband and I both ordered the sashimi omakase. The fish was great, tender and a nice temperature. All of the food came out very quickly and we appreciated the handmade pottery it was served on. My only complaint is that the omakase meals are served all at once and not in separate courses.

Came for dinner with the family. Ordered the 3 pieces omakase. 10 different fish with 3 pieces sashimi. It was very fresh and tasty. We also ordered the nigiri omakase which was also excellent. My mother in law don’t do too much raw stuff. She had the soba noodles in a soy broth that was slightly sweet. Also got a salad and a king salmon that was cooked in sake over sushi rice. After tip the bill was about 420. Didn’t mind paying that price because the food was great. Good service as well. The sushi chefs all thanked us and bowed goodbye on the way out. Def worth a try if you want some great fresh sushi. You get what you pay for.

The food, atmosphere and service were all fine. The one-star is for them charging $65 for a single plate of sushi and passing it off as Omakase, instead of a chef making ten different nigiri plates for you as you watch. This would just be a normal nigiri platter in another restaurant. $465 for five people plus a $100 tip. It's outrageous. I also didn't care for the waitress patronizingly telling us what each fish was in Japanese and English as though we were idiots that didn't know.

Miyake has always been a special place for me. It felt like a quiet sleek oasis I have experienced in Tokyo. I have used it for my own secret birthday celebration with friends. I had not been since COVID and their Reno. I know things change for intentional reasons and everything has always felt intentional at Miyake. The food and the attention to detail was special as always. The anago was one of the best bites I have ever had. The eel equally surprising. Delicious. I’m not thrilled with the Reno. I assume it was to get more seating in but it lost the Sanctuary feel I always had walking in. It seem bright and airy The seated table we’re facing a wall. It’s no longer cozy. It’s more bistro or cafeteria feeling. Reviewing food for a long while now I know it’s Always about the food first and it didn’t disappoint. But some places I just have my own subjective expectation of the whole enchilada so to speak.

The whole evening was a night to remember. From the sushi, to the experience, we thoroughly enjoyed Miyake. The Miyake 75 cocktail was a great take on a mule, and the sushi is being craved by the whole family weeks after our visit, even our 7yo son. We had the pork belly (divine) and enjoyed the tuna roll along with the spicy crab roll. The spicy crab roll was something extremely special. They have recreated it in a beautiful way. It was surprising. No disappointment. The service was great as well, as our waitress explained the menu and a few items to us. We will be back!

We had heard that Miyake was moving to the Portland Harbor Hotel, which is true only because the hotel has expanded into the building in which the restaurant is located. It's actually in the same place it has always been. However, the interior has been dramatically remodeled. There is a lengthy and attractive sushi bar, but table seating has been reduced to about eight chairs. The menu has changed as well. It appears they no longer serve lunch, so gone are the bento boxes which were terrific. There are a lot of sushi rolls, which looked delicious and are larger than elsewhere, but they also cost $28 or so. The omikase has been replaced by a platter with ten pieces of sushi for about $95. Our meal was very good and we will return. But it was not quite memorable. The watercress salad is outstanding, but the tai ochasuka soup was short of fish and very long on rice. We each had a donburi, and the chirashi was very good and generous with the fish. The craft cocktails are interesting and enjoyable, but while different are somehow not memorable. The meal (four dishes and two drinks) seemed expensive at $150 (including tip). We were still a bit hungry afterwards, and we are not big eaters.

Underwhelming at best ... We specifically reserved to sit at the sushi counter for omakase. Instead, we were seated in a corner at the drink bar where we could not see the sushi chef (or really anything other than a blank wall) at all who was at a different counter. The "omakase" which is priced as such, was no more than a plate with the sushi 🍣 served to us by the bar tender who did not know which fish was which.... This is not omakase. The fatty tuna roll was delicious as well as the eggplant dish. Most frustrating was that the bartender who took our order argued with us about our order.. it was not a good experience. Quite a pity since we were really looking forward to have a special night.. but miyaki is not it.

As a long time fan of this establishment going back to their days at the old location, sad to say I had a terrible interaction with the service. Came to the door 20 minutes before open to inquire about the walk-in policy, waved toward and made eye contact with the hostess, and was ignored. After waiting and trying to get their attention for five minutes, my partner and I gave up and left. Called in to ask, and the question was promptly answered. The hostess suggested that no one saw us, which is sadly false. I can understand if they can't come to the door and are just following rules... that is fine, they can just say that. But to be ignored like that is unacceptable at such a high-end establishment. I've experienced better at Miyake, and hope it returns to standard in the future.

Our research for Portland dining revealed universal excellent reviews. We enjoyed our meal here, but given the extravagant praise, we are a little disappointed. Each dish is very well put together, but yet lacking in just that little bit more that to our mind would justify the lavishness of its praise. Too much reliance on soy, at the expense of other flavors. No sushi which was a little surprising given the seaside location of the city. The stars, all excellent, were the deep fried chicken thigh meat, rice cakes wrapped in bacon, and the tofu appetizer. Sauteed udon and tuna sashimi were average. Rice was not particularly good. No reservations for less than 4, but your name and number is stored and you will be texted when your table is ready. An extra 3 percent is added to the tab for the kitchen staff, an excellent idea, and to our minds not enough. Prices good, friendly waitstaff. Very good meal.

There's food that you can make, there's food that is too big a pain to make so you eat out, and then there's Miyake. A four course tasting menu can present you with four dishes that you didn't even know could exist. I'm sure the subtleties are wasted on our Western pallets, even if we've had average (or worse) sushi in other places. high points: three maine oysters in Ochoko, Hamayaki, (cooked lobster, scallop, crab over sushi rice served on a scallop shell, marinated and grilled black cod, braised pork belley topped with a fried oyster, unagi (eel roll). Sea Urchin is definitely worth trying, I was nervous because every local who harvests it I've met refuses to eat them. It was mild, tasty, tastes like other fish roes.

Was going to give this 4 or 5 stars, but lowered rating for 1 simple act. The sushi is really good, on par with the best places in Boston and most likely the best in the entire area. Get the Spicy Crab Roll... possibly one of the greatest rolls I ever tried. Now the bad. So we were at the bar and ordered our rolls, on top of that we ordered 3 Uni, 1 Unagi and 1 Tamago. Picture this.. my wife and I are sitting there and next to use is another couple... mid 50's. So we order first and the couple next to us orders the lunch special. Turns out we see the chef preparing our Nigiri, suddenly the waitress picks it up and serves it to the couple next to us. I thought the couple next to us was going to say "These are not our dishes", but without batting an eye the couple starts to eat our Nigiri.. NO SHAME.. by this point I am thinking they ordered the exact same dishes, which in a way was somewhat weird since I overheard them say they didn't like Unagi. The sure didn't mind chomping down my food. I gave them the benefit of the doubt thinking they did order the same thing... After about 10 min of not getting our food I notice the head chef tell the waitress and the hostess that they gave the wrong dishes to the people in front. Then about 5 min later we got our food. Now, here is what bothered me... the hostess went up to the other couple and apologized for giving them the extra food. Not to us!! But the apologized to the other couple who shamelessly chowed down on 35 bucks worth of sushi. If there was ever a time and a place for my inner Larry David to come out it was this. But I kept calm thinking I would get at least get some sort of acknowledgment... to my surprise I didn't. Gave them a good tip and left. Moral of the story... next time you get a wrong dish... just shamelessly stuff it in your face. You'll get a good meal and an apology.

Omakase review: Flavours = Great!! Serving size = Poor. Server's attitude = Much improvement needed. For the price of the Omakase, one certainly expects to not need to stop for more food on the way home. But that is not the case with Miyake. They definitely have good flavours and i'd recommend ordering ala carte and not doing the Omakase. My experience and review would probably have been different had i not done the Omakase which was utterly disappointing. And service could definitely improve to reflect the price you pay at this place.

we love sushi and this was the BEST we've ever had. the tastes are unique. sauces and spices are wonderful. I simply didn't want this meal to end. we tried tuna tartare and a spicy tuna roll and they were delicious. we also had a veggie roll and edamame. oodles of veggies in the veggie roll and very interesting spices. even the warm sake was delightful. you won't be disappointed! the wait staff is efficient and funny - the folks in Portland are really lucky.

My family really enjoyed our dinner at Miyake. Service was excellent. Most of us ordered the four course menu and one person ordered three courses a la carte. We shared most items. Highlights: miso scallops, miso black cod, lobster roll. No complaints about this high quality dinner.
