I am concerned about the future of this restaurant. Last time I got Togo, my wife and I ordered the same item, as we have many times before, and were given a much smaller portion of protein in our Ramen, along with some poorly cut veggies and far too many and large leaf mustard cuttings. It appears that the quality is slipping at least, and possibly shifting the quantity of the ingredients to the cheaper ones to squeeze out further profits. This was my favorite restaurant in Portland, but with the new ownership, I'm afraid I'll have to tell people that it used to be good back in the day. I'll be willing to give it another shot to see if it was a fluke, but it was always so consistent in the past.

My father and I got the pork ramen and were rather disappointed in what we received. This restaurant came highly recommended from multiple websites. Our broth was barely warm and the pork belly was cold. They had clearly cooked the pork previously and placed it in a fridge, and then put the fridge cold pork right into the soup and served it directly to us without heating it up. It tasted great but having barely warm broth and very cold pork ruined it for us.

Decent ramen but it felt kinda whitewashed. Noodles weren't that good and the flavor of the broth was just ok. It would have been fine if it was cheaper but for the price we paid, it was definitely not worth it. Two ramen bowls and chicken karaage appetizer with no drinks was $65 after tax and tip. Best part was the appetizer but still nothing special. If I have to spend that much on Japanese food, there are many better places to go.

Came here for comfort ramen. As per reviews we thought, how could we go wrong. The gyoza meat had no flavor, if it werent for dipping sauce its be pretty boring minus the crunch from frying. The ramen noodles were heavy and not as expected. Raw onion in soup with the ground meat gave the broth a very odd texture, couldn’t finish meal. Theres another soup spot across the street that was much better. Good music, cool eat at bar & outdoor seating. Good service. Mid food for city prices

Don't walk, run to this restaurant! The ramen is so, so good. Do yourself a favor and order the Duck Ramen which has a delicate broth with a rich duck flavor. The duck breast was good, but the duck meatball was amazing. I added a soy sauce-marinated egg and was really happy I did! The Shiso Lucky cocktail (gin and shiso) had a delicious, easy-to-drink gin and lemon flavor. Oh, and the octopus bites were fabulous. The octopus was chewy, but the sauce was so flavorful. We will definitely be eating here again! Update: This was one of the last places we ate when we moved back to North Carolina in October 2023, and it was the first place we ate at when we returned to Maine for a visit in August 2024. The ramen continues to excel (Duck Ramen is still a winner), and the pork buns make an excellent appetizer. I can't recommend Pai Men Miyake enough!

Used to be one of my favorite spots around 2020 but has gone a little downhill since. Past couple of times the salmon had been a little fishy and I simply don’t understand why they think it’s a good idea to put half a raw onion on the pork noodles.

4/5 stars however it may be closer to 3 with competition. The ramen only included half an egg, which is really strange considering normally ramen would include a full marinated egg. There wasn’t a ton of meat either, so I was expecting a full egg. Wasn’t super flavorful ramen either, but the sides and appetizers were really good.

If you like ramen, find a reason to come here. We had the Paitan, lobster miso, hamayaki, and the Meine crab sushi. Every single thing was amazing. Not good, not great. Amazing. This place was great, atmosphere was very nice, it does have somewhat limited seating when busy but the food seems to come out at a good pace. The portion of the ramen I thought it to be good size for the cost of it and the flavor was very good throughout the entire dish.

After a long day of travel, we craved comfort food and decided on ramen. It was exactly what we needed; each bowl was bursting with flavor! We started with a glass of yuzu lemonade, which was delightfully refreshing with a touch of bubbles. For our meal, we chose the tantanmen and beef short rib ramen. The bowls were quite large, providing a hearty lunch. The tantanmen had the perfect amount of spice, while the short ribs were tender and complemented by cilantro and sesame. This was the best ramen we've had in Portland! The restaurant itself is small and intimate, with counter service and a charming brick wall lined with two-tops. They don’t take reservations, so be prepared to wait during peak hours, especially if you need one of the limited larger tables.

We were very excited to dine in tonight. That excitement quickly disappeared when our server (I’d mention her name if she introduced herself) came by to ask for our drink order and then left us sitting there for 15+ minutes. Once we put in our drinks and app we didn’t see her again until after we were finished with the gyoza (that was underdone and cold in the middle). She had clearly forgotten about us, which happens and I’m not mad about that. Two bowls of ramen took 45 minutes to get to the table. Once we got our ramen the first thing we noticed was one was very full and the other was much lighter. Mine was supposed to come with a spicy broth that was so sickeningly sweet it was inedible. We had to flag our server down for our check and a box for my partners ramen. Not once did she ask how our food was and she definitely didn’t ask if anything was wrong with our meal when I declined a box and left a full bowl of food on the table. We were there for almost 2 hours and that was not by choice. It was such a disappointing dining experience and after tip we spent ~$125. I would not recommend.

Very very very expensive. Which I don’t mind paying for quality. But it was mediocre at best. Very small portions for very high dollar. Spend 306$ on Chinese or Japanese cuisine anywhere else you’ll be eating for days. 3 people finished this. Looked at reviews. Maybe eating there is better. Modern, contemporary spot with nice set up.. food was good but nothing extravagant esp considering the prices.. ended up pay $70 for just myself (for dinner)! Wanted to like the place more but besides the lobster buns appetizer, everything else was average/ good but nothing spectacular, including the ramen. Lobster buns were very good though a bit overwhelming with truffle oil, which I typically enjoy and still did but I think less would help not overpower the other ingredients.

All the flavors were on point (we ordered a bunch of dishes to eat family style...seaweed salad, daikon radish and carrot salad, 2 types of Ramen, 2 types of meat and rice bowls, and a bunch of pork buns). All of the food was delicious and I recommend getting a fun variety of foods. However, the pork buns are what I recommend the most. The pork belly was perfectly crisp on the top and the meat underneath was moist and with a very rich flavor. The bun paired well with the fatty goodness of the pork and the condiments kicked things up an additional notch, creating a symphony of flavors in the mouth!

Food is incredible. Service is ATROCIOUS. Everytime I come here. I get the same server (Jenna m.) and she completely ignores my table. Literally FORGOT to take my entree order, zero eye contact, while checking on tables right next to me which arrived afterwards. When the food takes a while because of lots of kitchen tickets (worth the wait the kitchen does work) she ensures the other tables (all white people btw) are comfortable and informed and walks past mine multiple times not bothering to give me the same courtesy. The fore st location is the only one I'll go to from now on. Her behavior is racist and rude. And as someone who's been a server I try to be understanding and patient but this is straight discrimination. Every. Single. Time.

Their sushi is pretty good. I’ve been coming here anytime I have sushi cravings but don’t have enough time to go to Miyake (their sister restaurant and a must visit).

Not only have I had some great Ramen here, but I've had sushi that rivals any other place I've been to.

Nice bar (not traditional sushi bar) and tasty food. Ordered the spicy Maine crab roll, and it was a treat. Wheat free tamari is standard. Pleasantly active, not overly busy.

Great food, but the delivery though CarHop has way too many fees. It forces gratuity for the restaurant staff, a fee to use the app, then a processing fee, delivery fee, and then expect you to also tip the delivery driver. At this point there are almost $30 extra dollars in fees not to mention the tax for the bill. Bought $76 dollars worth of food and to make sure I didn’t stiff the delivery drivers tip the total rang up at $120. Insane. I wouldn’t recommend using CarHop at all, or this place if they force gratuities for the staff and then your expected to tip the driver - it would be the same as going out and being waited on. When you sit down you tip the waiter, when you get delivery you tip the driver. ADDITION: they delivered the wrong order and had to send it out again. It took an hour and a half the first time, so food was ordered at 5:15pm and wasn’t delivered correctly until 8:26pm. I wouldn’t bother with CarHop as a delivery method.

We were so excited by the menu and reviews to come here, but we were sorely disappointed. The service was vacant and dismissal. The food- average at best, nothing was balanced or delicious, but rather one note and lacking flavor. The servers made us feel like we were putting them out by simply existing from moment one. Expect to pay for any extras, including hot sauce with no warning. I heard Portland was a great food city and we were so excited to experience what we heard was one of the best. Skip it and spend your money elsewhere.
