The seating and staff are very nice but the food was very very mid. The food took about 45 minutes to serve and it didn't taste very great. It's also fairly pricy for the things you can get. It's my first and only time.

Outstanding sushi! We come here every time we're visiting from Brooklyn and Sapporo measures up to any Japanese restaurant in our area. Great selection and prices, lovely atmosphere -- the best in town in our estimation.

Pleasant food and good service.

Gyoza was burned/black. Tempura was very greasy. Sushi was good.

Came in at opening and it was quiet. Decorate is lovely and what you'd expect. The food really was the highlight. Fish was fresh. Outdoor seating area available. Bathroom is a bit bare bones.

"Are you all set" is not an acceptable way to welcome me into your restaurant. That said, the Curry with chicken was tasty.

Food was delicious and the service was fast. We had a reservation, which I recommend, but it did not feel too crowded.

Great Sushi. Had the dumpling soup as an app and was perfect on a cool day. Finished off with a avacodo eel sushi role ! Very good.

We had a couple sushi rolls, sashimi, a salad and miso soup. Food was better than I expected. Actually quite good.

HOWWW is this place 4.3 stars??? If you've never had sushi before-- this is the place for you! At best, 2 ounces combined sushi in 3 rolls... if less than one star was available, that would be the rating for anyone that has consumed sushi prior to this place. Special roll was filled with mysterious glop.

I've had better at ginza town or benkay

My review somehow got deleted but these guys deserve the recognition. We popped in for some saké and ended up getting a little amuse bouche. What I loved is that when we came in and asked what kind of saké they had, the hostess did not hesitate to sit us down and show us.

Clean inviting atmosphere....service was a bit slower than what we expected it to be since they weren't busy, but overall food tasted good.

They did well helping with dairy and gluten free options. The sushi was great. The soups were amazing but the Asian noodle dishes and bento boxes were not great. Definitely visit if you want sushi, but look elsewhere if you want a noodle or rice dish.

We really enjoyed this beautiful Japanese restaurant in Portland, Me. The owner was amazing and the food was impeccable. God bless all the staff here. The teriyaki chicken was not great to be honest, but the sushi was fantastic.

Had a lovely sushi dinner. They were a little understaffed, but were very apologetic and kind about it. The wait was worth it! This was some of the best sushi I’ve had in a long time, and relatively affordable for the quality of the meal

Went after calling so seating was not the issue. Staff is actually nice. They answered our questions and waited while we took our time to decide what to order. I ordered shrimp tempura rolls. It came out pretty quick but it was not up to the mark. I am no expert in rolls so cant say what was missing but i have had lot better in Boston. Shrimp tempura is always my go to when i visit a sushi place as it always came out nice. This was an exception here at Sapporo.

This was my first time visiting the Sapporo restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere was cozy and cute, the food was priced well, and our server was attentive and super friendly. I ordered tamago (egg) sushi, the mackerel & ginger roll, and the broiled salmon skin roll— all super yummy! I will definitely dine here again!

It easy to find a parking space nearby. We entered and were seated right away. Our friendly waitress took our orders and the main courses arrived as we finished our appetizers. It was fresh and delicious. Having Sapporo on tap doesn't hurt either. Will definitely be going back.

We always look forward eating here. Whenever we land in Boston, and drive to Boothbay to visit family, we always stop here to eat. We love Japanese food and a visit here always checks the box.

Shittake miso soup, yum. Edamame, also yum. Dumplings, really yum. I would definitely recommend!

Had the Dragon Roll which was very good. Forced to leave due to restaurant shutting down between lunch and dinner which was weird but we were done eating so we just left.

Got a combo of the yellowtail and spicy crab rolls, with a cup of miso soup and of course, a mai tai. Reasonable prices, good service. Everything was good, although I thought the sushi was just average compared to other places I've been to in Portland.

This place is trash! Fake! Not even Japanese food!! Employees are very rude and chased me out of the store and through my tips back at me because they didn’t think it was enough. Food tasted like water, had no flavor! Horrible slow service! Flies all over the restaurant! Walls are very disgusting, and bathrooms are unclean and unsanitary!! Would never recommend!!!!

Referred by a good friend of mine, the roll, Maine and the soft shell crabs, scallops roll are excellent, also order the kitchen items but the taste is too strong (kind of salty) for me. Service is good can be not so busy when I there. Parking is easy, I parked right in front by the store with meter parking and there’s lot to park as well.

I ordered the Crunchy spicy tuna, dragon roll and mixed tempura for delivery. Everything was bland and soggy. The tempura dipping sauce had no flavor and seemed to be watered down. The chicken used for the tempura was not seasoned and had a boiled texture. The fish was not fresh. The sushi rolls arrived warm. The Tuna roll had no crunch and was poorly cut into chuncks with sinew and barely any spice. Very l I ttle Maine crab was used in the Dragon roll. I ordered through Dash so there is a significant upcharge. I could have spent a 41 dollars Anywhere else and gotten a better meal. On a positive note, I ordered the wrong sushi roll and they accommodated the change over the phone without any hassle.

Last minute decision to grab sushi takeout and delighted with the spicy tuna and California rolls from Sapporo. Miso soup was great too. Everything fresh and nicely prepared. I will return.

Wasn't the restaurants fault. Doordasher delivered sideways. I spent 20 minutes pulling it apart just to get it to look like this! Tastes great but it's really aggravating and if I was the owner I'd contact doordash and complain how their food is being handled!

I was craving sushi for my birthday dinner. There is no shortage of sushi restaurants in Portland so we did our research and settled on Sapporo. In short, we made the right choice. The service was very good and the food was better. The freshest sushi I have ever had, especially the tuna!! Great variety of sake to choose from also. We chose a great unfiltered brand. If you are in Portland Maine and want sushi, head straight to Sapporo!!

A Great place for some classic sushi and specialty sushi. If you have a large group, I suggest getting a platter, will run you a few more dollars but for amount it's worth it. The miso soup is always good. Also got a few Saki to choose from, warm and cold, of course. Overall a great place to stop for a bite, when your out on the town. They are also very Covid Conscious. Their sushi is mediocre, small and overpriced. I understand that the restaurant industry is struggling right now but this shouldn’t affect the quality of the food. The service was poor too. I’ve been to this place 2x’s in the past 60 days and both times it was the same experience.

A very nice sushi place with decent prices. Ramen is a good deal for around $12.50 and you can get noodles and tempura which is awesome as well. I really enjoyed the raw quail eggs, which you can get as a whole or cracked open onto a bundle of rice and seaweed. Had octopus there before and while it was not my favorite that dish is not for everyone. If you want sushi give this place a try and and order all the odd items you want, it's a ton of fun.

Sapporo has been my saving grace since this pandemic started. They offer such a great array of takeout/curbside options. I have also been inside since the pandemic and they do wonderful at spacing everyone out and providing high quality sushi!

We get the chicken curry regularly and it is very tasty. Good quality chicken which is prepared well. I like the rice and the way it is directly underneath the chicken. Overall, it is very enjoyable food.

Received delivery twice through Door Dash and was very pleased with the quality of the meals. the Hamachi collar was especially delicious.

Great Place for Sushi and a Sashimi

food just ok at best, like a chain place, we cold not get in on a Monday night so got take out that took 50+ minutes skip this one completely go some where else

As a native Portlander I’ve eaten here many times over the years and I keep coming back! The staying power of Sapporo is also saying A LOT for the best restaurant town in the US, with multiple restaurant openings ever year, this is one of the toughest markets in the US. High quality food and great service is a must. This is a family run restaurant and well run, with care given to food and the customers. I got take out here this week - a three roll combo very, very fresh spicy crunchy scallop roll, super salmon roll and shrimp tempura roll. Kitchen is great, friendly, hard working staff, great Old Port location all leads to staying power in one of the most competitive restaurant markets in the US.

We went in for HH recently and were delighted with the experience. We had a lovely server Xiao who helped us with the HH menu. We both enjoy dumplings and the HH vegetable Gyoza are outstanding. The HH beer is Kirin and my wife enjoyed a glass of red. Good job for HH, a very pleasant experience.

Love this spot with its own private parking. Winter happy hour serves the locals and that wins them my business.

We eat here nearly every time we come to Portland, and the two best things about this place are that you feel great when you've eaten because the food is so healthy and because the staff treat you with genuine warmth and respect. The decor and ambience are also quite nice though I find the tables a bit too close together for my preference.

Delicious food and very generous roll sizes. Their spicy crunchy rolls are what makes this one of our favorite places. Wait service is hit or miss depending on the time of year. The people we see regularly are great, it's just the fresh faces that turn over a lot that seem to have a hard time keeping on top of things. Wait time is never a problem during weekday lunch, so it's a great spot to get in and out. They also have an actual parking lot, which makes it that much more attractive of a place to eat.

Always look forward to eating here whenever we are in Portland. My favorite is their bento box deal at lunch. Since we were here for dinner this time. I made my own bento box by ordering tempura, miso soup and rice. It did the trick.

My husband and I ate here for dinner while on vacation. It was serviceable but nothing outstanding. I'd probably eat here again.

Had beef teriyaki that was very good. Came with Miso soup and a salad too small to call a salad. My avocado roll was quite tasty. My colleague had a few different sushis that he enjoyed. We both asked for extra ginger. The request was ignored and the waitress never came by to ask if everything was fine. In the end we went to the sushi bar and got it ourselves. The place was not crowded, yet we never got to see our waitress at our table until we asked for the bill.

Sapporo is one of best sushi restaurants in the entire state of Maine. The wait staff takes great care of you and the sushi is perfectly prepared. They also have plenty of non-sushi items on their menu.
