Cozy German restaurant near Minnewaska State Park. Wonderful views, great atmosphere, and good food. Service was friendly and helpful, food came quick, and their salads were awesome. I decided to try a chicken burger, and I was initially glad because they provided the chicken sources, but sadly, it was uncooked, and I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted. We would try again, because the place transported us to Bavaria!

An absolute delight. Authentic German food & beers served by very nice people. Highly recommend.

We've been going here for years..food is spot on..great selection of wine, ciders, beer and cocktails..and the prices are reasonable.. this is a go to cozy destination

I went there with my cousin from Austria. We had Meade mixed with beer. It was awesome. He had Schnitzel. I asked him how it was and he said he felt like he was at home. Traditional food beyond expectations. Thank you guys!!

A year ago, I wrote a review detailing how disappointed we were at the lack of service we received at this, one of our favorite restaurants. I just deleted that review because today's dining experience was, as was the case with every visit except that last one MBP (Mountain Brauhaus Perfect). We had the sauerbraten and beef rouladen, accompanied by spaetzle and red cabbage... both were exceptional, as was the service. When I complimented our server on his attentiveness, he told me it was only his second day... and yet it was the best service we've received in a long time. Back again on Labor Day weekend 2024... and equally superb! The best German fare!

Surprisingly good vegan options! The vegan sausage is very, very good - they did a fantastic job making it. The curry sauce was a little spicy and flavorful. And the vegan coconut cake was delicious - lemon pound cake with chocolate, so not too overwhelming with coconut flavor. Great cocktails too! Service was very, very slow. It took us an hour and a half to get our food, but it was worth it. Just know they're busy and plan to be waiting for a while.

A personal favorite though reservations are often needed during the dinner hour.

The best German food in the Hudson valley authentic fresh made right on premises Best hot chocolate made with their real whipped cream and real cocoa they also have their butter ranch dressing that they also make homemade All gravies and meals are made fresh this is my go to place when I need something filling reasonable price and awesome tasting The only bad thing is you must call for reservations this place is so busy all the time especially around holidays and the weekends but even join the weekday they get full

Had a 1930 reservation on a Wednesday, we were seated promptly and had time to go over the extensive menu, great selection of German and local beers. The restaurant was overrun with children, plenty of crying, game playing and non headphone video watching. It took almost 65 minutes for our food to arrive. While the experience was less than ideal, the food was delicious. The beers were great... Just a slight miss on the service, and the atmosphere was not pleasant.

Always amazing food. German traditional, and and German-inspired new variations. Friendly staff. Old favorites at the bar, as well as fun creative drinks. Great local apple ciders. Of course great beers. Perfect stop after a fabulous day hiking the Gunk's! Pretzel and a beer, schnitzel and a beer, spaetzle and a beer... You get the idea...

So the food is amazing and that is what one goes for right? Been here a number of times and the food is authentic and delicious. This place's shortcomings are in time management. Waited well past our reservation time and once finally seated it took forever to order drinks and then appetizers. Appetizers came out well before drinks. We waited over an hour for our entrees. Staff were inattentive and seemed frazzled. All told once we sat down we were there for two hours...not efficient turnaround. So the food is great but be prepared to wait.

Either I’ve been unlucky with the German food I’ve gotten or I’m just not a fan, but I will say that this place has delicious potato pancakes. My beef was dry, making it hard to swallow but my boyfriend’s was tender and melt in your mouth (we literally ordered the same dish). The lavender cream in the blueberry tart was also VERY strong. Overpowers everything…they should rename it to a lavender tart :P Service and atmosphere were pretty good. The staff is dressed up in traditional German clothing so that’s pretty cool.

A little German haven in the heart of the Catskills. Didn’t expect to find a good German place here. The food was awesome! The ambiance is just right. The staff is nice! If you need a break from the pizza and pasta tht dominates the area this is a great place to go! I definitely highly recommend this place. They do get pretty busy though.

The food & service are always a 10. I absolutely love it, dessert is a must. Layered honey cake, chef's kiss!

This restaurant is one of the very best German places I've eaten, from New England to Texas! Every dish we tried was delicious, but especially the German potato salad. Be sure to make a reservation as they can get super busy! A bit of the beaten track, but very much worth the trip!

Surprisingly delicious, innovative food. I wasn't sure what to expect of a German restaurant in a mountain in New Paltz, but this was excellent. My scallops were very interesting and the sausages were great. And loved the location, the view, the beautiful plants in the space, and the warm, wooden interior. Overall, the atmosphere was boisterous and lovely without being too loud at any point. It felt very homey. Some of our plates were dirty, and that was the only minus.

Just had the opportunity to eat here. Not impressed. Service was off and the hostess didn't seem too friendly. Food was great thanks to the kitchen crew but server wasn't on point with the orders.

A necessary visit for the Hudson valley! A long time family business of the Hudson valley catering mostly to climbers in the nearby state park, you can find all sorts of authentic German cuisine here. With either bar or table seating, you can enjoy an assortment of German beers or mixed drinks. I always enjoy the Gunksburger, which has local pumpernickel raisin bread and caramelized onions. However the bratwurst is always a good pick too! This last year they started experimenting with a bratwurst and beer truck, which in my opinion is a great decision.

Very underwhelming drove 30 minutes for this. Was not worth it had to ask for refills waitress never came back to check on us. Overall very disappointed

The food here is amazing and everyone is so friendly! Our server may have been new and kind of forgot about us a few times, but I'm sure he will get better with experience and is absolutely no reflection on the overall experience. Everything is home made! The Bavarian pretzel was to die for! I had chicken schnitzel with spaetzle and red cabbage. The portions were HUGE! My husband had a NY strip which was cooked and seasoned to perfection. It came with a ton of fries and beets with goat cheese. We will definitely be going back. The decor was pleasant and fits the look of a mountain cabin. The only thing I would change is the carpet. It's a bit worn, and I bet there is a beautiful hardwood floor underneath that would really shine! Otherwise, it's a popular destination in the heart of the Shawangunk mountains that should not be passed by!!!

First time visitors the Brauhaus, being from CT where are no good German Restaurants, I didn't really had high expectations I was hoping for a decent meal because i was disappointed to many times by all the other german restaurants around. Ohh what a surprise!!! Eric our waiter was super nice and the menu had a great selection of appetizers salads and main courses. We all ordered some kind of schnitzel which came with a side salad and dark bread. The buttermilk dressing was absolutely delicious and so was the onion vinaigrette. The Schnitzels was tender and cooked to perfection, Spaetzle and red cabbage were great. I had a Apple-strudel for dessert which was the perfect ending to a really great meal. Being a Chef from Germany and Living in America I can really recommend the Brauhaus and i will be for sure driving 90 miles to come back very soon.

Got there at 6:15, party of two. Hostess said it would be a 45 min wait. We still weren't seated by 7:30. We left...not worth it. Staff was overwhelmed and incompetent.

We had a wonderful dinner tonight. The drinks and meal were excellent. Our server , Nicole, was polite, personable and so thoughtful. After dinner, instead of receiving the check, Nicole told us that someone had already picked up the check! Nearby was a gentleman with a little dog and we just had a feeling that he was our benefactor. We approached him and he did confirm that he was grieving the loss of his dear wife and wanted to do something special for us- complete strangers! We thanked him for being so generous and wished him well. Just goes to show you, that love and grace still survives even in difficult times. Thank you.

Very charming! We waited a bit for our food but it was definitely worth it. Large, filling portions. Great beer choices. I like that they use local ingredients, serve local beer and cut down on plastic. Definitely make a reservation. And they have matches!!

Fantastic German food near New Paltz and Lake Minnewaska! I recommend the Wiener Schnitzel and the Sauerbraten. Make sure that you get a reservation in advance as this is a very popular place! Take a hike around the nearby lake and enjoy fine German food. Guten appetit!!

Great restaurant with German cuisine, friendly service staff, but the waiting time in front of the restaurant was far too long because the colleague was overwhelmed when it came to seating the guests

When you come in and the host tells you there are wait for an hour and people are packed at the bar waiting for a space to get free at the bar - that's real definition of success! Just an amazing place! Food! Service! Atmosphere! Kid friendly! A++++ Advice to others : make a reservation ahead of time. Honey cake is amazing!!! Just love this place!

I really enjoyed my time here. Spent a few hours in the beer garden drinking excellent German beer on draft. It was a hot day so these went down a treat. I'd suggest the beer garden could be better with more tables and some shade. Then went into the restaurant and had some great German food. Probably the best I've had outside of Germany.

Excellent comfort food, no matter what you order; loved their bar special brandy alexander cocktail, salad with homemade dressing was the best and their staff is so kind and friendly. We will definitely come back to this terrific restaurant when we're back in the area in the near future.

I stopped at the outdoor food "truck" after hiking at Minnewaska. The food was excellent, a couple of knockwurst, a big pretzel and 2- 12oz cokes. The price was out of control- $30+. Sorry Mountain Brauhaus- I love your restaurant but won't be stopping at your food truck anymore

Great german food, great staff that dress in traditional German attire

Wunderbar! This family German restaurant is the real deal. My husband loves good traditional German cuisine. We'd been meaning to try out Mountain Brauhaus for a while and had an opportunity to do so last weekend. It did not disappoint! Everything was excellent from the helpful front desk team and the friendly waitstaff to the fresh-tasting hefeweizen on tap and our entrees and sides. The beef rouladen was out of this world, and although I'm not usually a spaetzle fan, theirs was fantastic - pan-fried in a light brown sauce. I wish I'd taken pictures. My husband also loved the German potato salad. Come hungry and ready to enjoy a stick-to-your-ribs meal. If you're like us, you'll leave with some leftovers for the next day. Recommend!

This place is great. Only downside is that it is always packed here, thus it makes it hard to get a table on friday, saturdays or sundays. They have great food and service. They have the best homemade blue cheese dressing ever, I know it's weird to say that but truly, try the salad! Haha.The rest of the food is delicious. I love the schnitzel, burger, and trying the specials. The pretzel is great, I love the spaetzle, and the red cabbage!!! The food is so good. And if you like blue cheese...you have to get it on your salad. Staff are wonderful. If you sit at the bar, sometime you get local history from locals, it is wonderful. Such a good community here.

I think it was my expectation that it was going to be the best. It was ok... way too much Diil and caraway seeds. You really couldn't taste anything else. The server incredible.

Excellent dinner start to finish!

First time for everything! Arrived at 5:20 pm half hour wait.( No reservation). Got a table after a cocktail at the bar, around 6. Then never acknowledged for another half hour. Took order never go bread or even asked if needed refills or anything. Finally an hour later walked out! I never had bad service there in all the years that I have gone there. Not sure if I will be going back!

Fell in love with this place when we accidentally stumbled across it 3 yrs ago on an anniversary weekend getaway. Been craving it and surprised my husband this year and came back up. The atmosphere, service, food and EVERYTHING has not changed! Wonderful experience. Highly recommend. Oh huge shout out to our sever Oscar for being patient and very accommodating

Nice little restaurant off the beaten path in the foothills of the Shawangunk Ridge! They provide a great, relaxed family atmosphere and an overall great dining experience! Its relatively hidden location sure doesn't hide it from the patrons! My family and I had a Sunday 2pm reservation, and the dining room was packed! Service was a tad slow due to how many guests they had, but don't let that put you off! The portions were generous and flavorful! The Swabian Rostbraten was delicious and the bacon and brown sauce was exquisite! I was impressed at how much they give you, because some places don't really give you enough food at the main course. I am very pleased with the Mountain Brauhaus, and would definitely return!

The family-like atmosphere added a warm and welcoming touch, making our meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone craving great German cuisine!

Better than German food in Germany!! The drinks ahhh ok

Perfect place in front of our stay in Minnewaska Lodge. The innkeeper recommended this place, and we too recommended it. The atmosphere is very unique and cool since the servers were all dressed in dirndls and lederhosen. At first we were seated tightly where the servers were going through the aisle. However, the host saw the issue and was very polite and respectful in moving us to a better seating area. After we settled, we were serviced by Sarah who was very attentive, kind, and very good in explaining what specials, food, and drinks area. We enjoyed Battered Onion Rings, Pork Jaeger Schnitzels, and the Zwiebel Rosbraten. As for drinks, I recommend the Mead: 'Viking Blod' and the Dry Cider: 'Wiccopee'.

Best German Food in the Tristate Area. Huge Selection of classic staple dishes and beer. Cant go wrong with the Schnitzels or Pot Roast. Make sure too make a reservation as they are usually booked out every night. Everything is locally sourced and high quality.

Few times a year, we experience an amazing meal at the Brau Haus. Including people at table, and witnessing hundreds of varying menu items served, only have heard rave reviews. As well as always fine service in a clean atmosphere. Excellent beer as well. Pricey a bit.....but so well worth it and leftovers! Being half German I highly recommend the jaegerschnitzle(sp?), anything braised, spaetzle (well done) and the blue cheese dressing.

Close to Minnewaska State Park. Packed, but was able to do a walk in on a Saturday at 3pm. Food was good, enjoyed the schnitzel.

Best German place around. Great views

Me and my husband drove about an hour to get to this place and they said they stopped taking walk in customers 4 minutes before we arrived. I told them we had just driven almost an hour to get there and the lady just stared at us and would not seat us. Absolutely unacceptable I can NOT believe that. I will never be coming here again.

This place was just across the street from our lodge and we decided to try. It was such a wonderful experience. I haven’t had good food like theirs in a long time. I’ll be back. The host was very nice too

Excellent German restaurant at the foot of Minnewaska, Mohonk, and the Shawangunk Mountains. The food is awesome and the service top rate.

A cute German restaurant, conveniently located at the intersection leading to many of the hiking trails. It’s perfect for refueling after trudging through the many grueling hikes in the area. Reservations are highly recommended especially during peak season. I was actually surprised we got a table since we only made a reservation the day before. We got the pretzel to start. I’m not a fan of the licorice taste of caraway seeds which was embedded in the pretzel so it wasn’t my favorite, but I loved the mustard sauces it came with. I had their burger special which had huge cuts of sauteed mushrooms which were delicious. The place is clean and decorated like a traditional German pub. The staff are dressed in German garb also which made it fun.

Of all of the restaurants that I have eaten in, Mountain Brauhaus has always been my favorite. The food, the beer choices, the service and the atmosphere never fails to satisfy me. But, on our recent visit, we had the absolute pleasure of being served by one of the most remarkable young people we have ever encountered. Vika T was personable, professional, friendly and had the most sincere smile. We had the pleasure of chatting with this young woman and found a little about her, and know that this world, and the future, are in good hands with people like Vika taking us there.

Walking into a piece of history. We have been going here for over 25 years. My all time favorite. Sometimes we will jump in the car drive up from Long Island and plan our day around dinner there. You must have their berlinerweis. And their pretzel with beer cheese. Everything in the menu is amazing.

Birthday dinner extravaganza! They don’t take reservations but do call ahead for the wait list. Genuine German food. Great atmosphere and the best food around. Great drinks and beer on tap. Milk stout, IPA and a spiced apple Cider hot toddy with pumpernickel bread and waiting on dinner. Schnitzels are to die for and tonight will be the steak. Warm and inviting atmosphere. Phenomenal food and service. Very kind and attentive even when they are busy. Food is top notch. The pot roast and the sniztel are excellent. Great heafeweisen brews as well. Call ahead if you are thinking of getting takeout. They get very busy and sometimes close takeout.

Best German food this side of the Atlantic Ocean!! Highly recommend the schnitzel. And they have a great selection of foreign beers as well. Service can be a bit slow if it’s packed, but it is 100% worth the wait. The food is very high quality and has a great balance of flavors. If I were a millionaire, I think I’d have dinner here every night.

This has got to be one of the best in the Hudson valley they're German food is authentic they make all their breads desserts on premises they're hot chocolate is so inviting as far as the taste I think they put nutmeg in it but I'm not sure but they also make that homemade they're pot roast no one can make a pot roast like these people this place is amazing I can't say enough about how great this place is from the staff to the food to the parking to the atmosphere and the views it's amazing all the way around must make a reservation if you come on a Friday to Sunday it is that packed you will be waiting and sometimes even when you have a reservation you will be waiting because if food is so amazing

Here is what you call a must go establishment! I have been here multiple times and each time is better than the last. The staff is great they are engaging and do everything than can to make the experience for you it's very best. From conversations to taste testing or even giving you the shirt of their backs you do not get better people than the ones at the Mountain Brahaus. Missy and the others behind the bar are mesmerizing to watch just work and fix drinks. They recommend options and pairings of food and beer. Which next let's talk food... My good G Man!!! Start w the specials if this soup is on the list GET IT!!! the rabbit soup my goodness so good I even went home and dreamed about it that night. Than you need anything with the lunderberry jam dont care what you get just get that JAM! Schnitzel fried n hammered paper thin to perfection. Do yourself a favor get a side of the brown gravy to dip it in. I can go on n on with the main course but who am I kidding get to the desserts man! You need 3 things... 1. Ask Missy to make you a hot chocolate in the tall cup. 2. The 9 layer honey cake with the berry medley 3. And of course the German chocolate cake. Do not get 2 forks you will not share dont even kid yourself. You will cut someone if they even attempt to take a bite of your treasures. Why are you still reading this get in the car, get the GPS marked, the gas is on the right. GET MOVING!!!
