Unfortunately, my recent visit to this establishment left a lot to be desired. The overall cleanliness was concerning, with condensation dripping onto my food and a general grime on many surfaces. I sincerely hope it doesn't lead to anyone falling ill. While they offered a wide selection of craft beers, the sheer volume made it overwhelming and difficult to navigate. It felt a bit disorganized, making it hard to identify specific beers and their styles. The food itself was alright, but nothing particularly memorable. The bartender provided excellent service, but the person at the door was oddly rude to me while being pleasant to others. I'm not sure what prompted this behavior. Given these factors, I likely won't be returning on my next visit to town.

We drove up from englewood to go to the yuengling oktoberfest we were very disappointed in what they tried to pass off as an oktoberfest.... No fest music.. No one was dressed accordingly Shorthanded so there was an hour long wait... Just a restaurant with a bar with 10 college games on... Just ridiculous But their total disregard at a basic attempt .. Led to us finding an authentic german restaurant just 6 minutes away called MR DUNDERBAKS Mr dunderbaks had everything ... we were expecting ..German food .. German beer German music.. German decorations. German grocery German meat market German desserts. .. What a complete experience that totally made up for our 1.5 hour drive... Thank you MR DUNDERBAKS we will definitely be back

So freaking good! I had jägerschnitzel with mushroom gravy, but everything we ordered was delicious. 🤤 I want some now :( We went on trivia night, which was fun!! Our server was awesome, and he made excellent recommendations. Lots of European candies, snacks, goodies, and good beer!! If you like schnitzel you will enjoy Mr. Dunderbak's.

The general manager was demeaning to us. We bought $200 worth of beer and he made us feel stupid for asking about pricing. Love dunderbaks I have been going my whole life but never felt so disrespected at a restaurant before.

After trying this place for the first time I instantly knew why it's crowded, everything that's German (obviously almost everything) is very authentic and glad I tried it!

I used to eat here as a child at the one in Greensboro, NC in Four Seasons Town Center.They had the best German Potato salad. When I think of Mr. Dunderbaks I always think about my childhood and being at the mall. It was such a fun time. I was sad when they closed it.

Just slightly disappointed with Togo ordering. The last three times I’ve ordered Togo pomme frites, I always ask for curry ketchup. They always forget it and I don’t check until it’s too late. Like I said, 3 times in a row, at this point it’s my fault- just disappointing. My three orders happened over a span of months.

Most authentic German restaurant I've ever been to. Shad was awesome with his experience being thier so many years. The manager was so friendly and helpful in helping me decide what to eat.

We went to this place because we wanted to grab a quick bite and beers with our dog and daughter. The beer we got was one of the ones they make there, it was good. I don’t remember the name. We have had vegetarian German food before and never really loved it. However this was pretty good. Everything had good flavor and was cooked well. Most importantly our server was amazing and really made sure that all the food and sauces he served us were fully vegetarian. He also knew the menu In and out. I unfortunately also forgot his name (sorry recurring theme for this review). Young and energetic fellow with blonde hair. Very good! only area for improvement is that the sitting area outside is ok, not amazing. It’s on the footpath /parking lot. No nice lighting. There was a fan but it wasn’t on. This restaurant was way more happening on the inside, but we had to sit outside because of our dog. I guess this could be one thing that could be improved if the restaurant was so inclined. Overall though good beer and good food. Would recommend and will be going back

The reasons for the overall and atmosphere ratings: Went with my wife, son, and his girlfriend to what I thought was going to be a relaxing afternoon to watch Germany play Espanola. Almost from the moment we got there a guy in front of us was loud and grew more obnoxious as the game went on throwing F-bombs, GDs, and the “B” word so loud that people all around us, including three families with young kids, could hear him. At one point, when Germany scored, this person jumped up on his chair ranting a raving while inebriated almost falling backwards on our table. His friend had to grab him by the belt loop to keep him stable. In the process, our table tipped, knocked all of our drinks over, and spilled beverages onto my son’s girlfriend. I did confront the young man at that point…and though he offered to pay for the drink, he did so with a bit of an attitude, didn’t apologize to the lady, and didn’t help clean up our mess. What surprised me the most was that they still kept serving this guy beer and never pulled him aside to ask him to calm down. I called the manager today to let him know about the situation and even though he said he was sorry we didn’t enjoy the time there, it came across half-hearted with no incentive to come back after a very challenging experience. He did say if I had mentioned we lost our drinks that we would have been given another round. What the manager fails to understand is that after nearly an hour of putting up with obnoxious behavior and no one doing anything about it, we didn’t want to be there any longer since I was on the edge and close to taking the situation into my own hands (which is what happens when an establishment doesn’t intervene when drunks get obnoxious). When I challenged the manager on how he nor his staff could not have heard the young man loudly shouting expletives with women and kids around, he just said everyone was having fun, staff was busy, and no one complained. This answer is very disconfirming as if to say it wasn’t a big deal because no one else said anything about it. Not the right answer. The manager needs to alert his staff to be more perceptive and stop ignoring what many others would consider offensive behavior if he wants to maintain a family friendly environment. If he wants to run a biker bar, that’s a different story. Additionally, the young man should not have been served any more beer until someone in the establishment addressed and assessed the person’s state of mind.

This is our local German food joint. I have traveled to Germany and I couldn't find a place that makes a better Schnitzel than Mr. Dunderback.

I mean I had a ton of German restaurants all over Central Florida to include the big number one in Sanford. This was hands down one of the best German restaurants I have been to the food was phenomenal!

German pub style atmosphere and food. Everything was prepared well and served quickly. We picked up some German candies after dinner from the shop.

This is an incredible German restaurant that will make you feel like you're dining in Stuttgart. Be prepared to be seated with some new friends since most of the tables are communal. The menu is ESTENSIVE, and all the food is delicious. Caution - be prepared for crowds on Friday and Saturday evenings and prepare yourself for a loud evening with a hundred fellow diners partying alongside you. Save room for dessert because both the Black Forrest Cake and the Apple Strudel were exceptional.

Live polka accordion music. Authentic german food and beer make this an essential stop for german fun. The evening started outside waiting for seats when a server took beer order. After about 10 minute wait, four of us had a variety of both (food and beer) and thoroughly enjoyed everything about the experience.

The Ruben was advertised as a corned beef sandwich, what I was served was a sauerkraut sandwich with a couple slices of corned beef.

Great selection of German grocery items (bread, chips, pickles, chocolate, ...).A well rounded German and American menu with several vegetarian options (Germany is getting pretty vegetarian) nowadays). The Dunderbrau beers did not convince me but there are plenty of German beers and guest taps to choose from. The music is dominated by Karneval Hits. Nice place to satisfy a craving for stereotypical German culture.

Apparently I was told about the “rules” a month ago. I don’t remember being here a month ago. No open seating at the bar, potatoes are the only gluten free option. No all beef sausages. Very disappointing place. I am taking them off my list of places to spend my money.

This is the best German 🇩🇪 restaurant in Florida. All of the food here is excellent. In particular the jeager schnitzel is outstanding. The potato pancakes and spetzel are great sides. Service is excellent. Dining here you will feel as if you were in Bavaria. Go out of your way to come here.

Trying a new spot can be hit or miss, be we struck gold with this gem of a restaurant! Walking into Mr. Dunderbak’s, I felt as though I’d stepped into a portal that whisked me away to another world. You’d never guess it from the outside looking in. The ambiance, decor, music, furnishings, food, beer, service - everything is ON POINT - they’ve left no stone unturned for a delightfully full German experience! If you’d like to take a stroll into little Germany today and enjoy the most authentic German fare to be found here in Tampa, then you simply must visit! Such a fun, joyous atmosphere and the beer options are almost endless. The plain pork Schnitzel entree (with lemon) is ahhhhmazing. Kiddos loved the “Real German Weiners” & grilled cheese sandwiches. They even have draft Root Beer floats. We will definitely be back!

A unique German food venue; Monday night Trivla Persuit. I bring friends and family to enjoy fantastic food with a differnt flare. Great deserts and specialty items. Bar available. Just love this place.

First of all, Dunderbaks has been a favorite restaurant of ours for over twenty years. For this visit, we were a party of 12 celebrating a graduation from USF. We were quickly seated & service was excellent. As a new college graduate, our son was given a free beer and then the choice of a cool beer glass/stein to take home and a bottled beer to go with it. So nice! We all had a great time. The only minor thing was that the beer cheese soup recipe has changed. It’s something we order every time and it just wasn’t as good. We were told a replacement vendor was being looked for. Aside from that everything was as always superb!

So to say the least, we were not impressed with the service (Sebastian) for our first visit to the restaurant since we moved to Tampa. Who we later found out that Sebastian was also apparently the bar tender, so their service to our outside table was highly lacking. Very few check backs, had to get assistance from other staff for to-go boxes. Also, when I voiced an issue with the taste of the Sauerbraten and wanted to know if I could switch out for another item, I got told that they couldn't do that. Onto the Sauerbraten! This tasted nothing like 11 spices as advertised on the menu. It tasted like fresh red wine vinegar in a thickened sauce served over barely heated roast beef. The side of green beans that I got with my Sauerbraten boasted on the menu as having peppered bacon, onion and garlic. However, there was one piece of what looked like precooked bacon, no sign of onion or garlic and absolutely no salt or pepper to be found on them. The sour cream, white wine and mushroom gravy was more like yogurt or soft butter. There was nothing gravy about it. The spätzle and Jagerschnitzel had did have decent flavor! Inside the place seemed nice, rustic, bustling and old style bar. Nice music and lighting. The outside tables (the thin wood tables, not the picnic tables) could be more stable. We are likely to give this place one more try, but definitely with an inside table and not with Sebastian.

This German Restaurant is a regular spot for me! The atmosphere is like stepping into a pub right out of Germany. I always order the Black Russian because it’s my favorite. They do have a large selection to choose from. Nothing better than a German beer to complement your food. The service is great and I always feel like I’m on the show Cheers where everyone knows your name.

Everything about this place is amazing! From the service, to the food, to the little shop where you can buy so many different food items! The staff is quick and incredibly friendly. The atmosphere is as close to a real Bierhaus that you can get here! If the food or been had lasted more than a few minutes, I would have pictures!

I recently revisited Mr. Dunderbak's on Bruce B Downs for lunch, a spot I hadn't dined at in years due to the distance from my home. Following a recommendation from friends after a round of golf at Tampa Palms, I decided to give it another try, and I'm thrilled that I did. The sandwich I ordered was exceptional, and the German beer special was a delightful treat. The service was prompt and friendly, and the restaurant's old-world charm added to the experience. An unexpected incident occurred when I left my credit card at the bar. Fortunately, I spoke with co-owner Chris, who not only promptly mailed my card back but also included a thoughtful note. Her personal touch truly enhanced my experience, showcasing the dedication and class that sets their business apart. Hats off to Chris for her exemplary customer service!

The pork sour cream schnitzel is so delicious 😋. Pom frits & spinach salad were on point. Onion rings were just meh. Service was outstanding.

German tavern A different option for an after office or a dinner with friends, enjoying a very good beer and complementing German food. In addition to the bar and restaurant, it has a minimarket where they offer a huge variety of German products, charcuterie, sausages, cheeses, snacks, beers among many other options.

This used to be my favorite place for years, unfortunately the quality of service and food has declined lately. When ordering the pomme frites they now come saggy instead of crunchy, and when ordering the Hawaiian Schnitzel only a small part had ham and cheese. Luckily the schnitzel itself still amazing and the beer is great but definetly not as good as before.

Best German food in Tampa. Amptospher is great, live music and German beer and German groceries for sale as well. Great place to meet friends and family. The wait staff is outstanding and the manager never misses a chance to stop by to say hi and how are things going.

Tasty selection of German dishes! Tried the pretzel, amazing!! Veal Jagerschnitzel was delicious and the knockwurst was great!! They have a fun atmosphere and huge selection of beer!!

I've been to many dozens of German restraunts and been all over actual Germany. Place tanks top 3 for wurst. Sadly they don't have a dairy free option for schnitzel! But everyone loved their food in my group! Be sure to get the red cabbage here!

Our server, Olivia, was fantastic. She knew the dishes well and made wonderful recommendations. Our drinks never went dry and she checked on us often. The food was great. Lots of flavor! We loved how the place was decorated and stocked. We had a wonderful time.

Mr. Dunderbak's is the place to go if you like German food. It's a great environment that is always busy. We've been there several times and it's always a fun experience with great food. I like their Jagerschnitzel which comes with rich hunter gravy. I got the Spatzle and Green Beans for my sides on this visit and would recommend adding the Jager gravy to the Spatzle. We also had the German Pretzel and Potato Pancake appetizers which were delicious. For dessert we split the Apple Strudel which was good, but not great in my opinion.

This German tavern has become a local favorite for us. The food, mostly German fare, is always delicious. Some of our faves include Weinerschnitzel/Jagerschnitzel, spatzel, warm German potato salad, red cabbage, cucumber salad, potato pancakes... And favorite desserts include black forest cake and apple strudel, among others. There is a fantastic selection of beers and wine. The periphery of the restaurant is stocked with different European foods such as chocolates, pastries, and jams, and at Christmas time the little shopping area becomes a petite European Christmas marketplace. Also entertaining on weekend nights is Akkordian Joe, who plays the accordion and sings polka favorites from a little gazebo in the middle of the restaurant. The only negative that I can think of is that it can get pretty crowded, with a bit of a wait, especially on weekend evenings. But Mr. Dunderbak is always worth the wait.

Great atmosphere, and food. We love the potato cakes, and the cucumber salad, schnitzel was really good too. Not sure if you guys still have the acordian player around; that guy was cool? Only German place worthwhile this side of town.

Love German/Austrian food? This place is a must-try! Super busy on Presidents Day, but we still got great service and amazing food. Tasty, authentic dishes with good-sized portions. Loved the schnitzel and the strudel too. Will be back!

Order an eight dollar liverwurst sandwich. The sandwich came with about a quarter inch of liverwurst and they put it on whole wheat instead of the Rye that I ordered this was a very lame presentation of a classic sandwich. Apparently they don't know what a true deli sandwich is

Been coming here for years. Food is out of this world delicious. But our last visit was so disappointing because of poor service from the waiter. Incredibly unfriendly and always looked miserable and void whenever he had contact with us, which was minimal. He has been there for years and this happened to be the first (and last!) time he served us. This type of experience was totally uncharacteristic of this restaurant. With eating out being so expensive these days, it’s a bummer to spend money where you’re treated so indifferently. I’m just mad I left a decent tip for him.

This place is like a German Cracker Barrel. So many goodies for sale. And the incredible selection European candies and treats was a delight. I had Jagerschnitzel with spatzle and potato pancakes

Restaurant recommendation. @mr.dunderbaksbrewpub has amazing German food and beer. I had the spicy pork goulash with a size of warm potato salad and cabbage, had a stout and a German chocolate cake to top it off. The portions are large and tasty. The goulash actually had some kick and the potatoes were delicious. Besides the cake my favorite thing was probably the cabbage. I could have a giant bowl of it as my meal. So so good

We sat at the bar and enjoyed great service from Jackson who led us through the draft beers list to find something that suited both our taste. He narrowed it down very well. The beers were great. We started with a pretzel and beer cheese dip, which was very good, but a little small for two. Then I had the Venison sausage platter which was delicious with a side dish of fried potatoes which was not so great. The round potatoes were a little limp and cool. My wife's Sauerbraten was delicious, the gravy in her steak pieces dish was the only thing that saved my potatoes from oblivion. We enjoyed the whole experience, we'll be back for more.

The German Cracker Barrel. Not a large indoor space, a redone deli, maybe. Food was good. A pounded and breaded pork or veal($2 Xtra) cutlet, topped a bunch of ways(had the Hawaiian: black forest ham, gruyere cheese, grilled pineapple and cherry. Yeah, I eat the pizza, too, sue me.). Wife had the Matterhorn: corned beef and pastrami Reuben. My complaint was the constant marching music, as if Germany wrote nothing else. After a while, I even felt uncomfortable, like I was at a rally. I will say it's educational for non Germans and a definite change of pace. I'll go back to try their sauces.

We had a birthday party for someone and about 25 people. We were put into a private room with four large tables and had great service from Jared. If you love German food and the atmosphere, then this is the place to go. The food is great, and the variety of beer is phenomenal. There is also a great selection of candies and snacks, many of which are German in origin.
