Seriously, this is the BEST roast beef sandwich/Poboy I have ever had! Living in NY/NJ area, I am very spoiled by countless delicious deli sandwiches/bagels, but I have to admit Parkway’s fully loaded roast beef Poboy is second to none, and not even the good Philly cheesesteak stands a chance to win in my foodies ranking. I am extremely surprised how roast beef is cooked so well: not overdone and not super salty, which has made it the top of my list( sorry for Philly cheesesteaks….all the top rated ones are still too salty for me). The generosity of the restaurant has made it even amazing: small beef Poboy sells for $12, and I can’t even pick up the whole things completely before eating half of the beef with fork and knife! The fact they serve with Crystal tells this place is 100% authentic and local. When I am in Nola I will absolutely revisit again.

Update... They now have an air conditioned area that has table service. Great for days that are extremely hot. Awesome place to get a great poboy. I truly believe the oyster poboy is the best in the city. They now have a huge parking lot, so that's not a problem anymore. If the weather is nice, they have a huge covered area to eat. Also have TV's to watch any sporting event. Great place to eat and relax.

We literally just found this place a few weeks ago and knew it was happening on our next trip to NOLA! Opened in 1911 and boasts of having "the best po'boy" in Louisiana. We'll folks, agree!!! We sampled their Alligator Smoked Sausage Poor Boy (as they call it), the Bar-B-Q Beef Poor Boy, and the first Poor Boy ever made by the Martin Brothers, Streetcar Poor Boy. Delicious! Their bread is that wonderful Louisiana bread. Got a few of their sides to sample: Fresh Mediterranean Pasta Salad, Coleslaw, and French Fries! Seriously try them and thank goodness we came when we did.... it's now packed like sardines lol. Have a great week

My coworkers suggested this place because I was having terrible luck finding good food in New Orleans. I got the surf and turf po boy, banana pudding and a porch swing. The banana pudding wasn't really all that good, tasted powdery and generic, but THAT PO BOY omg that po boy was amazing. Get it alll the way dressed. The porch swing had grapefruit in it, which I don't even like, but was still sooooo good. Additionally I left them a voicemail last night because I lost my earbud and they called me back today to say they couldn't find it but they looked. It was so sweet. Thank you, Justin! I will be back for that same po boy and porch swing.

For the first time in many years I was disappointed with my po-boy today. I went with my neighbors who ordered, then I ordered. My order was ready quite quickly so I just waited for my friends order to come before I started eating. When they got theirs, we noticed my fried shrimp po-boy was half the size of theirs, both were dressed. I probably did not have 10 shrimp on my large. I probably should have taken it back, but it was getting busy and I didn't want to bother. We joked that I was going to switch out our half's when my friend wasn't looking. Next time I will say something. A large po-boy should have more than 10 shrimp.

The best Po'Boys we've had so far on our trips to NOLA! There's a nice patio inside and out. Order from the counter and they will call your name to pick it up. Hubs had a tender roast beef with savory gravy topped with perfectly fried gulf shrimp (tails removed!) unlike our last adventure down Bayou Rd. The French Bread was cooked as I like it, soft center, crispy on the outside. I had the Impossible Burger in a po'boy, it was seasoned well and I had lettuce, tomato and creole mustard to top it off. There's a large free parking lot with an attendant if you can't make the walk from the French Quarter- we stayed on Jackson Square.

Outstanding! I love fried shrimp po boys and since we decided to stop in New Orleans on our route back home to South Carolina from our Texas road trip, I made it a point to stop here for lunch when we arrived. This place is BUSY and it's not hard to see why. This is the exact kind of place I wanted to find to get an authentic Louisiana Po Boy. The bread was perfect for this kind of sandwich, the shrimp were fried perfectly and with right amount of breading and they do not skimp on the shrimp, and the veggies seems fresh. They also had this cajun sauce for the fried pickles and I got some to put on my po boy which I absolutely loved. There are a lot of places in the area to try a po boy but I'd definitely recommend coming here if you can. 100% would come back again.

So here is the deal: my son and I are both foodies and decided to take a trip to New Orleans to see what this glorious city had to offer. Our ninth stop in our quest for food was the Parkway Bakery & Tavern. This is the one place I absolutely had to get to. It is the home of the po’ boy, or as Parkway calls it, the “Poor Boy.” Wow, just wow. The restaurant itself was fantastic. It was as if I was transported back in time. After ordering, my son and I waited for our “Poor Boys.” They were fantastic. We both had half shrimp and half catfish. Had we been to Parkway on Wednesday or Thursday, we could have got the oyster poor boy. They only do oyster on those days. Beside the poor boys, we also had their Mediterranean pasta salad which is a summer special of theirs. To finish things off, we had the banana pudding- yum. My son and I had the chance to talk with the owner and he explained a little of the history to us. That was great. If you are on a quest for traditional New Orleans food, you must, and I mean must, go to the Parkway Bakery & Tavern. You will be glad you did. Wow, just wow!

Parkway is a prime example of why New Orleans is a foodie’s destination. The James Brown “Poor Boy” sandwich ($13.29 plus tax, for the small) is overstuffed with BBQ beef, fried shrimp and cheese. The chicken and sausage jambalaya is hearty but could use even more Cajun spices. The butter rum cake was ok but I would have liked more rum in it. Order fulfillment is very expedient. The vibe here is very down-to-earth and relaxed. You’ll have a good time, just come hungry.

I came here after watching them on Bon Appetit. If you're staying near the French Quarter, you just take two trams and walk about 10-15 mins to get here. It is a big tavern with outdoor and indoor seating as well as a bar area. When we got there, it was just around 11:30 am so things hadn't gotten busy yet. My brother and I shared the award-winning James Brown Po' Boy, which was a combination of their famous roast beef and shrimp in their classic sauce. The Po' Boy was HUGE and more than sufficient for two of us. It was delicious, no doubt about that! I would order it again. I'll just get more people with me so that we can finish it. So I may have had the best po boy of my life yesterday. I loved Mabile’s out in LaPlace and it is still at least 2nd if not right there for 1st, but I got a half fried shrimp and half fried catfish po boy from Parkway Bakery and I am still thinking about it a good 24 hours later. The roll was absolutely perfect for a po boy so that immediately made me happy. The breading on the shrimp was nice and crusty with a good bite and was very flavorful. The shrimp were still tender inside and you could tell they were super fresh. Catfish, when it’s done properly, is one of my favorite things. This was an A1 catfish. I took a few bites of each (dressed of course) and then doused the ever loving hell out of them with Louisianas own Crystal hot sauce. I’d go back today if I wasn’t in the middle of smoking a brisket 🤤. I recommend ordering an ahead and getting it at the pickup window. We waited in line a good 45 minutes and the sandwiches are wrapped to go anyway. Order to go, grab your food, and find a table. Delicious. Downright delicious. Parkway Bakery - Didn’t Suck!

We heard great things about this spot before our trip to New Orleans. Arriving early for lunch proved wise as the queue soon extended. The shrimp poor boy was exceptionally tender and flavorful. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the surf and turf, and the bread was outstanding. Make sure to visit their website for operational days before you go as they don't open daily. It's best to get there before the crowd builds.
