great food, amazing service, only wish the space were bigger

This is the ONLY gelato in town that uses true ingredients, you will not find better gelato in the city. This is off the beaten path on Jena and Magazine, when you find it, you will be hooked. Service is wonderful, and very tidy shop. Ria and her husband are the sweetest, if you are a local and have not checked them out, please put them on your list for your next outting.

My good friend enjoyed the coconut vegan gelato I got for her to try. She was very impressed and she's quite the food critic, 😂

Loved all the flavors we had. The kids loved the Cookies Black (a cookies and cream) and we also really liked the baklava gelato. The sorbets were very good as well! The chocolate sorbet was mind blowing - how was it dairy free and still sooo rich and delicious? A must try. The lemon sorbet was very refreshing.

PICCOLA GELATERIA IS THE REAL DEAL! Ria creates gelato with love, knowledge, and only the purest ingredients! If are buying “gelato” any where else in New Orleans, you are not eating the real deal. Other “gelato” storefronts are serving you Ice cream dressed up as gelato. Piccola Gelateria creates the softest, smoothest, creamiest, yummy goodness! She has dairy-free options that have no right to be called dairy-free. All but the Cookies Black are gluten-free. Take a trip to Italy without leaving New Orleans and visit PICCOLA GELATERIA

This place has superb gelato! The owner is a very professional, lovely lady. Highly recommend this spot for dessert. Also no artificial colors/flavors and no preservatives unlike Sucre that has artificial colors.

The espresso latte was a creamy, dreamy after-dinner treat. You can really taste the quality and the passion they put into their product.

The BEST gelato because its made in-house, from scratch with real ingredients without additives, or colors. The taste is out of this world! We tried about 15 flavors and soent about 1.5 hours tasting and tasting! A very friendly owner, clean bathroom and cuze ambiance.

I always consider that the success of an establishment depends on the quality of the product offered in conjunction with customer service, and speaking of customer service, the attention is always first class. Please try the Hazelnut gelato, cookies black and pistachio, my all time favorite.

Passion fruit sorbetto was amazing. My children loved the lemon and raspberry sorbetto. We would definitely go again.

This is a fantastic little hidden gem off Magazine. I got a double scoop of lemon and raspberry sorbet and my family got assorted flavors of the gelato, including vanilla bean, salted caramel, and cherry. Everything was SO GOOD! The sorbet is refreshing on a warm day and the gelato was the definition of decadent. The woman behind the counter was very welcoming and seems passionate about what she does (presuming she’s the owner of the shop). A lovely taste of Italy. Can’t wait to come back.

While the gelato here was very good the customer service here was absolutely horrendous. The lady working the front is absolutely horrible to customers. We walked in and she literally did not look at us one time while taking our order and had just a nasty attitude towards us. We ordered 2 gelatos in a cone and they started to drip while eating them. I went inside and asked for a cup so that it wouldn’t drip all over the car on the ride home and was asked “why do you need a cup?” Like as if I need to explain to her why I need a cup from a place we just purchased gelato from. All in all we will never come back to this place because of the treatment. If you read the negative review responses here you can see just how ugly this owner is.

The best gelato ever! There’s nothing like it in the city of New Orleans. It takes me right back to Italy! Ria is a wonderful soul and my heart smiles each time I see her face behind the counter. I will be a forever customer :)

My first time having an Affogato. It was delightful. The proprietor also let me sample some gelato since I couldn't decide which affogato to order. Very quaint Cafe and a welcome stop after a several mile walk. This will definitely be a stop any time I am in New Orleans.

If you are within a one-hour drive of this great hidden treasure, I don't care what you're currently doing while reading this review, STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND DRIVE THERE AT ONCE. After you've had gelato from Piccolo Gelateria, you will never - I repeat NEVER - be able to find a suitable substitute or even anything that comes remotely close to tasting this good! I've had plenty of stuff labeled "gelato" but I promise you that there is no comparison. If you could eat paradise, it would taste like the Amarena Cherry gelato. Do yourself a favor... pack up the family, pack up your neighbors, pack up your co-workers, and come try this place! I also sampled the hazelnut and the pistachio gelatos. What a shocker - they literally taste like what they're supposed to taste like - hazelnut and pistachio!! There is nothing fake or artificial or chemical about the gelato here! The service you'll receive matches the deliciousness!! Tell them you read my review and yes I actually DID drive in from over an hour away to eat here! PERFECTION!!! 10 outta 10!!!!! Appended review added on Saturday, March 30, 2024: I made ANOTHER trip (twice in the same week) to this WONDERFUL gelateria and tried two additional flavors - Caramelized Fig and Banana Salted Caramel (in addition to my favorite Amarena Cherry of course). All tasted exactly as the name implies and are ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! The cafe Americano that I ordered was equally delicious! We stopped in here on our search for some authentic gelato. We tried a few different flavors such as the stracciatella, amarena cherry, cookies black, and hazelnut. The stracciatella was a little heavy on the chocolate but it was still super smooth and tasted great. The amarena cherry and cookies black were probably my two favorite gelatos as they were very well balanced! It's nice and quaint inside and there is some additional seating outdoors too.

We rented a house in the neighborhood for a month+ and came here several times each week. This is the smoothest gelato I've ever experienced and they have a rotating selection of flavors. My mom had a savory crepe that she said was delicious and filling. Friendly owners make this a welcoming place that I can't recommend enough.

The place is beautiful but my crepe was extremely sweet. Might need to come back and order something else. The berry jelly crepe is for an extremely sweet tooth (which I thought I was). My daughter loved her Nutella crepe and if I am honest her pistachio gelato was to die for! Response to Piccola: - No, I would never request Nutella in my berry crepe. Update 2024 Went back and had a super delicious cherry gelato. Still think the crepes are a bit much. Learned some people ask for half the filling and it was super. I personally didn’t try it! On the other hand the service at Piccola isn’t my cup of tea, just as the response below shows the owners are rude. My daughter’s friend (both 12 yr olds) referred to their gelato as ice cream and the owner had a fit and corrected her and was very inappropriate. I am all up for educating the customer, but I think their customer service would surely benefit from a soft skills refresher. I stick with my 3 Star review ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A dynamic culinary duo runs this cute spot. They left their jobs in 2016 to open this gelato shop. We went with the pistachio and it was splendid! Probably one of the best gelatos I’ve ever had and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. If you have time, talk to them and be inspired!

Wonderful tastes, sorbettos, ice creams. Try the lemon meringue and red orange. After a long walk down from Oak Street through Audobon Park we deserved this treat.

Piccola Gelateria makes the best gelato outside of Italy hands down. Every flavor that I have tried has been spot on and has the perfect level of sweetness and smoothness. The service is always impeccable and friendly and the quality of the gelato is unmatched. If you happen to visit the shop while the King Cake gelato is available, do yourself a favor and get a cup and then a pint to bring home like I did. Otherwise, you can’t go wrong with any flavor or two or three.

I rarely give 5 stars but this place was fantastic. I love it when small restaurants or business owners are passionate about their product. Making money seems to be the top priority of so many people in the food industry but the reality is that in order to have great quality food, you have to be proud of your product. I can tell that the owner/s care about their gelato, crepes, drinks, etc. The passion is reflected in the food. This is one of the 2 best gelato places I’ve been to in the US and I wish I could go again soon. I recommend also getting a hot chocolate with browned marshmallows, it’s delicious.

We were searching for some dessert on the last night of vacation in Uptown and stumbled upon the best gelato in the world. Real flavors from authentic ingredients - you can tell the quality and craftsmanship are second to none. My only regret is that we didn’t find this place on night one!

Amazing gelato. I’m a simple chocolate person but flavors I never thought I would like ended up being my favorites on the menu like amarena cherry and caramelized fig with goat cheese. And the gelato cakes are not only beautiful but delicious! It’s our go-to for even winter birthdays. Always time for gelato and the sweet service has us coming back for more.

My husband and I shared a large cup with three flavors - Stracciatella, Carmelized Fig, and Pistachio. My tastebuds died and went to heaven! The texture of the gelato itself was luxuriously creamy, and the flavors were amazingly fresh and on point. The best gelato we’ve ever had. Yes, we are well traveled and it is still our favorite. We go once a week for a good chat and a delicious treat.

Extremely arrogant staff. The elderly lady behind the counter is full of hatred and before you even talk, you can get the sense of being unwelcomed in their shop. Don’t know if this her baseline mannerism or she just just can’t tolerate the mere existence of anyone that looks different than her. High end prices for just below average ice creams.

Really exceptional ice cream! We’re out of town (from Poland) and this is definitely one of the best gelato we’ve had!

Seven years ago, while in NOLA, my husband and I visited Piccola Gelateria and what a gelato, to die for. I think I tasted three different flavors and had afogato coffe with hazelnut ice cream. This is the best gelato I ever had. I had gelato many times in Italy, but none of those came even close to gelato at Ria’s. This year we went to New Orleans for a wedding, so I planned in advance a visit with my friends to this place, which is now located on Magazine Street. We Ubered there and the gelato was so yummy and the location is just perfect. It was seven of us and we all tried many different flavors and truly enjoyed it. The special treat we received from Ria was a pumpkin flavored gelato , how perfect, it was a Halloween weekend, and we all truly savored it. We Will be back 😋

We stopped for dessert and had great gelato. Large flavor selection to please everyone and staff was kind and friendly. A neighborhood establishment that makes someone from out of town feel at home.

We walked in late on a weekday and it was understandably wrapping up but we were welcomed with open arms. After chatting with the owners we ordered a few scoops each. WOW!!! The best that I have had since I was in Rome. It just melts away on your tongue. Amazing. The owners are delightful. Give it a go. You won’t be disappointed.

I know you all came here for the photos, but I hate to break it to you. Our gelato was inhaled so fast that the phone forgot to eat first. The gelato was absolutely delicious. Truly some of the best I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a lot). The shop itself is nestled inside a quaint little neighborhood outside the hustle and bustle of the Quarter. You will not be disappointed!

We stumbled on a true piece of Italy in the Cresent City. The ice cream is as authentic as any artisan gelateria in the Old Country. Not only Ria welcomes you with an inviting smile, she can even exchange words in Italian and her husband comes in riding a Vespa. Coffee is like espresso should be. Might be the best gelato I've ever had! Truly the most wonderful almost stretchy-creamy gelato ever! The pistachio especially is to die for. The almond one was all right as well but definitely thought the pistachio was far more impressive. Only thing? It would be lovely if the shop lady could turn the friendliness dial up a bit. The lack of warmth was a bit uncomfortable.

The best gelato I've had since Bologna Italy. The owners take pride and what they do and will be glad to talk with you about it. Hundreds of different flavors served a few at a time. Now that they are in the new location, some of the recepies have changed to accommodate people with egg sensitivity. Same great taste and quality!
