Really enjoyed a charming dinner service here, we brought family visiting from out of town & had a wonderful time from the moment we stepped inside. It’s a very cozy & warm atmosphere, & our waitress was very friendly & engaging. The orders are spaced out at a leisurely pace but never had an empty water glass or felt forgotten about. The owner visited our table at the end & it was another nice touch speaking with him & hearing his story. Will def be back! 👌🏻

Amazing meal. Service is done in the French style. You are expected to “dine”, not just eat. There’s no push or rush to turn the table. It’s ok to linger and enjoy your time. The food was amazing and comes in very hearty portions. The bread clearly had just come out of the oven. The Mushroom Fillet Mignon was cooked perfectly, and the Duck was out of this world with an incredible raspberry demi glaze. The staff was warm and welcoming, from the waiters to even the busboy.

Doesn't seem the same after all these years. The bread service was not as good as I remember. The onion soup was bland and had a thick, flavorless consistency. The pate assortment was good, though rather meager for the price. Entrees were good, though some have gotten extremely pricey. At some point during Covid, they added partition of wood and windows surrounding most tables, which detracted from the ambience of the "old" Pot au Feu. Time for those to leave.

The service was excellent, we were greeted by the bar tender and he upgraded our table, it was very nice. The wine was excellent, but the Pate Maison as disappointing, it was cold and had a thick layer of gel on top, so it was not fresh. The main meal was Boeuf a la Bourguignon, the meat was a little dry, I think over cooked. The dessert was a mouse and it was excellent.

I could have sworn I reviewed this ages ago. But anyway... I revisited Pot au Feu last night to finally (after decades) try their excellent version of Pot-au-Feu. Beef, chicken, cabbage, potato, celery, carrots, onion, and broth (on the side). It is basically a peasant dish. No fancy sauces; just a mélange of meats and vegetables braised (or stewed) to a perfect consistency, to allow their natural flavors to shine. I should also mention that this venerable establishment serves French bread that is absolutely delicious: fluffy, yet substantial on the inside, with the most wonderful delicate crust I can remember having, so you must have plenty, buttered up for dipping in the broth. Classic French cuisine. In the past, I've also had the Boeuf a la Bourguignon (incredibly rich and delicious), and Tournedos Bearnaise ou Bordelaise (opting for the Bearnaise sauce), perfect beef medallions, with the perfect sauce. Being a creature of habit, I've had both of these many times. I've also had some of their savory crêpes, some years back, and they were just great. I look forward to trying the crepes that are now on the menu on my next visit. For dessert, I wanted to try the Crêpes Suzette, which is one of my favorite desserts, and it didn't disappoint. Lovely soft texture, cooked in a sweet sauce with orange tones, with a cup of good coffee making it a perfect finale. If that dessert is not to your taste, it's no exaggeration to say that Pot au Feu has, far and away, the best Crème brûlée I've found anywhere, and I've had literally hundreds. A rather simple concoction, yet usually eluding perfection, they have found it here. The owner is a very welcoming and friendly gentleman, who may just visit your table. Service, as well, was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Always a pleasure. Thanks again, to all.

Pot Au Feu was an exceptional experience all around. My girlfriend and I loved it. Note she is from Marseille and is hyper critical but still loved it. We booked 72 hours in advance and had no problem getting in. Attendance was low when we arrived and we had great service all the way around. Staffing seemed calibrated appropriately for 4th of July weekend. Parking was fine. Downtown is free after 6pm on weekdays so it was easy overall. I’d double check though if there’s a Water Fire going on though, seeing it’s so close to the river.

Our visit to Pot au Feu resulted in a disappointing main dish of duck, with an excellent French 75,and a delightful mousse au citron for dessert. The duck was so dry and overdone that my husband called Pot au Feu, “the worst French restaurant we have eaten at.” The mushroom soup was very good, but the onion soup was just okay. We had a superior onion soup at Bowen’s Wharf the previous night. The other main dish that we had was the Fruits de Mer. This main dish had a lovely broth, with sweet and tender scallops and clams. The shrimp and lobster pieces were overcooked. Despite the attentive service,we will go elsewhere when in Providence.

The ambiance here is delightful at Pot au Feu. As soon as you walk in you can smell a roasted garlic butter scent that feels warm and welcoming. The seating areas feel private and the lighting is romantically dim. However, the food was subpar. We enjoyed the Trois Petits Pâtés, but the Pot au Feu-their claim to fame-was disappointing. Although the broth was nice, the "tender" beef brisket and chicken were dry and hard to swallow. Furthermore, the escargot was also tough. Instead of a tender and delightfully chewy texture, I found myself chewing at a rubbery snail for longer than what felt appropriate. The owner was very kind, and regaled us with tales of his acquaintance with Julia Child.

MORE AT OpenTable

As always, Pot au Feu exceeded expectations! I have been a patron of the restaurant for decades and honestly, since my mom who was my favorite dinner companion, passed away, I don't get out as often as I used to. I had an opportunity to dine out with a dear friend who actually suggested, "Let's go to Pot au Feu! I'm craving their duck!" As she has often pointed out, few restaurants serve duck and those that do, do not prepare it as well. I chose the beef tenderloin with a luscious bordelaise sauce. Both dishes were served with ratatouille and roasted potatoes with a side of dill sauce. The dinner, as always, began with warm, French bread with a crock of creamy butter and salad, sprinkled with blue cheese and served with a choice of homemade dressings (raspberry vinegarette or a creamy mustard). For dessert we did forgo the creme brulee which is our usual choice and opted for espresso martinis. While the food was amazing, I would be remiss if I were not to bring attention to the exceptional service and ambiance. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were greeted by owner, Bob Burke, dressed impeccably in a jacket and his trademark bowtie. He seated us in a cozy center table. If you haven't been to the restaurant since the pandemic, you'll be amazed at the beautiful way they reformulated the room to maintain the atmosphere, yet separate tables to give space away from other patrons. When you arrive at your table, glasses and side plates are covered with a linen napkin to keep them protected. Of course, flowers and a candle complete the setting. Our server was Hillary, a longtime and beloved staff member who always makes you feel at home. She makes a point to remember many of her patrons and always greets you warmly. All servers and staff are always keeping an eye on your every need, yet give you space without hovering. All in all, it was a spectacular evening, and we cannot wait to return!

This was our first visit since the pandemic closed everything down, and the restaurant has changed for the good. Before it was quite noisy and it was hard to have a conversation. As a counter-virus tactic, the owners created attractive glassed-in nooks around each table, and they act effectively to tamp down ambient noise. The food was very good, as it has always been, and the service, while on the slow side, was courteous and unobtrusive.

Love the way the restaurant looks & feels. Old school ambiance & super friendly host. We had a nice conversation with him. I think I just ordered the wrong thing (I don't eat meat...) b/c I thought the food was just ok. We shared the trio of pate (pretty good) & I ordered the vegan pot au feu. It was lots of veggies in a broth. The veggies were cooked to perfection, but it was just lacking a bit. I guess I also thought it would be more stew-like & it was literally broth & veggies. We had the creme brûlée for dessert & it was very good. Not sure if it's the best I've ever had, but it was delicious. The salad that comes with all entrees was decent. Nothing special. Literally just lettuce & salad dressing, unless you opt for the blue cheese for $1.00. I would go back & try something else. I don't feel like it's a very kid-friendly place, but great for a fun & intimate dinner.

Its okay. Food was amazing, our table had a wide selection of apps and main courses and each was better than the previous. Can't say enough. The service was, I don't know, stereotypical? A but brusque, not quite rude, but also not particularly attentive for a restaurant in this price range. The lack of valet parking is a huge detriment, though. They need to make a deal with one of the surrounding lots instead of making their diners fend for themselves. And being pretty rude about it by phone before we went. As for the atmosphere, I think you have to be in the mood for it. It's exactly like eating in a very old basement. Our table was canted about 10 degrees off level, there's a ton of exposed and well worn brick, the tables are separated with curtains, it's dim and that's probably a good thing. The menu is small and more like eating at someone's house than in a five-star restaurant. Its weird. I would definitely go again (somehow despite living in the area for more than 50 years this was our first visit) but yet it still feels like it's a place cut out of time. The food is absolutely five star, and the atmosphere might be additive for some. For us, I THINK it detracted but I'll have to go back to be sure. Will update when we do.

Service was great even though it was full. Food was delicious. Ambiance was cozy and inviting. Noise level was moderate when we first arrived. We had a late dinner though so it quieted down as the night went on. I would definitely recommend and will be revisiting again.

We greatly enjoyed our experience! We were pleasantly surprised at the vegetarian options! The service was excellent, friendly and the owner was lovely and checked in on us and spoke to us for a while! We absolutely loved every aspect of our meal and evening and will definitely be back and recommend it to others!

We love to go out to eat, especially in Providence, where there are great restaurants. My opinion is Pot au Feu is the best place we go. The food is truly extraordinary and truly French. The service is excellent and Bob (the owner) is such a great guy and always makes us feel welcome. All the dishes are great but, for me, the Crepes are to die for as is our favorite appetizer, Trois Petite Pates (3 different t pates - mushroom, bluefish, liver).

This is a fantastic restaurant. Great food, great atmosphere, great staff and wonderful owner. We felt welcome from the minute we entered the restaurant. This is a great date place with classic French cuisine. The beef burgionone was the best I have ever had -- better than some of the meals I have eaten in Paris. You feel like you are in Europe when you are in Pot au Feu. Can't wait to go back!

Menu did not reflect the food delivered. After spending much time in France over the years, I can comfortably say that the presentation and quality did not justify the prices. For example table bread was not a baguette or similar level and the wine portion appeared to be skimpy. Will be staying with French restaurants in the boston area instead without question

Outstanding in every regard-ambience, cuisine, hospitality. The owner (Bob) was the consummate host. He made us feel as if we were guests in his home. If you have a taste for classic French cuisine in a non-pretentious setting, this restaurant is a must.

Table was already set up for my wife’s birthday dinner. Ordered drinks and apps, they forgot my drink and had to ask them again after the appetizers came out. Ordered a bottle of wine with dinner, but they brought the wrong one. Dinner was ok, I got the special crepes, the beef inside was dry. My wife and her friend had the duck, which was underwhelming, the skin was soggy and unevenly cooked some of the meat was dry. After reading reviews for here I was excited to treat my wife and friends to an amazing meal but we were again underwhelmed with the food.
