Trivia was fun, authentic german food was delicious the snitzle was amazing

The atmosphere is great, the beer list is as one would expect for a German restaurant. The food itself though was incredibly disappointing. Other than the Bavarian pretzel which was quite good, the entrees we ordered for lunch were bland and tasteless. How does one have sauerkraut that doesn't have any taste? The schnitzel was overcooked, spaetzel under seasoned, and the worst I ordered had no discernable flavor. Great place for beer and pretzels, not recommended for lunch or dinner.

Fun place to go! We’re German and went with an American friend who wanted to see what we thought about the place. The beer is authentically German (mostly Southern which is the best beer anyways), the guy serving us was fun to be around and we paired the German beer with Wisconsin cheese curds - can recommend!

Wrong prices everywhere - prices $10-$20 more - then the guy ended up spilling a large portion of the pour - just seems like a scam

Place has really gone downhill recently ever since they started closing around 11 on weekends. Ambiance later in the night has turned into bartender’s friends. Not the same Prost as a few years ago. Great German beer selection and still same great food as always but not the same watering hole as once before.

After hearing good things about Prost from locals, our group made a reservation for 7 on a Sunday. When we arrived, a a smaller group without reservations was put at a large table that was more appropriate for a larger group (i.e., us), and we were seated at an uncomfortable bench table at the back of the restaurant. We were then informed that the restaurant's AC was out, but we decided to brave the heat anyway. Unfortunately, the staff then decided to ignore us completely for the next half-hour or so, and we decided to go elsewhere. Not sure what happened--maybe a group of 7 guys was less attractive than the group of young ladies one table over who were served drinks within minutes of being seated? Wish I could actually review the food!

For how absolutely slammed this place was, the service was really great. We stopped in briefly for a bite but ended up hanging out for a bit. They have an awesome selection of drinks and AF options like Athletic. I suggest coming in a little earlier or making a reservation on peak days to grab a spot, it gets packed fast!

GUTENTAG MORE LIKE GLUTEN…TAG 🥨 MASSIVE pretzel alert 🚨 You’re gonna want a full pretzel but let me stop you right there….you don’t. They are big and they are a tasty feast 👅 Felt full here (emotionally and physically (I ate & drank TOO much)). Oh and here’s another point, you’re gonna wanna get a boot but this I totally recommend. I was stumbling a little bit when I left but that’s because holy canoli it’s a BOOT of beer. Haha. How novel. I had Lou as a server and he did a really good job. I hope you have him when you go. Nothing much left to say other than step into German town on Lincoln (Prost!) when you get a chance. This is the best German pub I’ve ever been to. The pretzels, sausages, and potato pancakes are all lovely, and the beer is voluminous and delicious. Would recommend

Had a reservation for a date. Arrived at dirty table with used glasses. Waited 30 minutes for a server. When they never came asked the bar if we could order a drink - "we'll send someone over right now." We left after 45 minute not having been served a single drink. Total waste of time, was excited for some good beer, too bad!

The staff are friendly, the beers are cold and delicious, and the soft pretzel is the best pretzel I’ve ever had.

Menu was kind of slim (the food offered was outstanding though) wish the (menu) was expanded but everything else was fabulous-service, atmosphere, etc.

Good but horrible service. The food and drink were amazing, but the service was so slow. It took over 25mins for us to get our beers after we ordered. We then had friends show up and they didn't get their order taken till 30 mins after they got in, and then they had to wait another 20mins for their drink. The place was busy, but still several tables open.

TLDR: great beer and service. Weird atmosphere, terrible terrible terrible (cheese based) food Reservation-only for a beer hall styled restaurant is weird. It’s weirder when you realize each table that is built to sit 8+ easily is sitting on average 3. Sharing one chair between two people at a bar, even if the restaurant is half empty, it’s fine I guess (~7:30pm) so is the beer at least good? We ordered Hirter Morchls. A must for German themed bar. They were excellent! What about the food? We ordered the spätzle (another must) and the cheese curds. The curds were prepared as well as my first time home frying. Half the curds were melted through the breading (probably didn’t freeze then first or they cooked too long). A bad look that is baffling for a place branding their curds as “authentic”. But that isn’t half of it. The first spätzle bites felt right, until I notice the unmistakably distinct flavor and texture of Kraft Singles. I couldn’t believe it. For a place that serves a third of a Maders (MKE) at the same price point (compensating for the designed-low occupancy?) and about the same portion as Glunz tavern for more money, it is simply embarrassing that they couldn’t use actual cheese. I could hardly finish my plate of one of my favorite foods. Also, you physically could not avoid looking at a TV, no matter where you looked. In all, come for the beer. But be warned, the people running this place either don’t know food, or are so confident in their clientele that they feel they can hide generally abysmal quality at an unreasonable price point ($100 for two beers, two spätzles, one curds) behind a veneer of Bavarian authenticity (I don’t think they legally sell Kraft in Germany as cheese)

Cannot recommend this place. They overcharged us and keep ignoring our email in which we are asking for a refund. Not coming back here. I was really excited about authentic German food but you won't find that here either. Unless you are really craving German beer and cant find it elsewhere in Chicago, I would not recommend this place.

Good spot for big groups. Service was quick, but food did take a bit to arrive. I recommend the pretzel, was good for sharing. They have a variety of options for beer and drinks. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and would come back

Food is amazing, beer is good German quality, atmosphere is great. But this establishments needs DAS BOOT Where are the BOOTs?! A German bar without enough to go around… should be 25 on deck behind the scenes. Charge people a deposit fee to make sure you have the means to replace the broken ones. Down to three when we asked, then only 2 available by the end?! I don’t think I’m being unreasonable to say this.

A hidden gem in Chicago for beers and great food! We went to this place the other day for casual drinks and it was fantastic. The variety of food and drinks are awesome, and the relaxed environment too. Highly recommended for drinks and for hangout with friends!

Honestly, there are too few German bars in Chicago nowadays. This one does a great job of keeping a traditional German feel while appealing to younger people. And they serve 2 liter boots. Prost!

My partner and I have been customers for over 2 years now, and I gotta be honest and say that we don’t keep coming back because of the service. To be honest service has been below average nearly every time we’ve been here, except for this last time. We had the luck and pleasure to be served by Martin last night, who not only was in charge of the bar but also in charge of at least 5 large tables around the bar. He was on top of his game every single time, always ahead of the game and always anticipating whenever we would need to order more food/drinks. We’ve never had better service at Prost! before, it was a 10/10 experience. Will someone give that man a raise already? Not to mention the food and amazing beer, the reasons why we ALWAYS come back. Amazing brat boards, chicken schitzel, cheese curds, pretzels, you name it. An incredible and authentic culinary experience. We’re big fans, will for sure be coming back and surely hope we’re lucky enough to have Martin giving us a 10/10 experience again in the future. Thank you Martin! PS: Management, seriously promote that man and give him a raise already, Martin is the real deal!

We dropped in late and the kitchen was about to close, but the bartender was amazing about everything, gave some amazing recommendations and even added on to our orders with some favorite ways he liked to eat some of the dishes. I wish I had grabbed his name because he was fantastic. The food and drinks were amazing and I'd absolutely love to visit Prost again.

Had a decent lunch here. Beer was great, corned beef sandwich was good, spaetzel was surprisingly mediocre/bad. It was way too oily and tasted like the oil instead of delicious carb bombs. Disappointing since spaetzel is normally a favorite of mine.

Visited on a Tuesday afternoon and it was quiet. Quality beer, great shareable plates, and friendly and attentive service. I would love to come back next time I am in town.

Mediocre food: sauerkraut from a grocery store with no additional spices, spaetzle with a weird charred flavor to it as if cooked in a dirty pan, and weisswurst sliced and grilled like any other sausage (weisswurst is always boiled and served tender with sweet mustard.... but not here!). The only bright spot here is their giant pretzel, very tasty! The service was good, and great beer selection with the German classics available. Atmosphere is pretty great, and the Sunday night trivia was very fun and lively. I'd come back here for the beer and atmosphere, but I won't be giving their food a 2nd chance.

The giant pretzel is delicious. Everything else was mediocre. The pierogi were basically deep fried crab rangoon wrappers with potato? Not at all a normal pierogi. The potato pancakes were basically deep fried hockey pucks of potato. The service was very slow.

Solid selection of German and local beers, with a great German menu. Currywurst and pretzel were excellent, especially the beer cheese and 3 mustards that come with the pretzel!

Great food and drinks, but the customer experience lacks a bit. Was there with 4 people where they charged a 20% auto gratuity on the bill, but then had a blank line for the tip. It's a small thing, but we were never notified by the waiter of the auto gratuity so double tipped by accident. I've also never had auto gratuity with a 4 person group so didn't realize until getting the virtual receipt we double tipped. On top of overpriced beer, it just feels like they purposely double dip with this Probably won't go back on principle.

I came here last year and really liked it. Came back and sat outside. Our waitress was very rude and rushed us, then just ditched us, so we had 2 other servers helping us. The train going over your head every 10 minutes is deafening and really makes the entire thing unenjoyable. Huge amount of gnats flying into our hair and food the entire time. So frustrating and loud and gross. Pretzel was the only positive thing about the entire thing.

There was a little inconvenient with the beer but they where very comprehensive and fix it very quick, highly recommend the wurst big board is very sustancious and the beer cheese sauce was tasteful.

The location was nice and the staff friendly. It's not 100% authentic German but it was one of the best German restaurants I have visited in the chicago area. The food was good and the beer tasty 😋. If I go again to chicago I will visit again.

Great times at a great German pub, good beers and must get the delicious pretzel

My family and I randomly stumbled across this little gem located under the CTA - easy to get to. The food was amazing and true to german cuisine. The bier was at perfect temperature as well. There was one person pouring beer, taking orders, serving food, and cleaning tables. He had a welcoming nature despite being slammed with 12+ tables. We got the large pretzel and the 4 sausage board that came with all the fixins - it hit the spot!!! If you're looking for a place to accommodate a bigger group, this is your place. It feels like you're at a traditional Oktoberfest.

This place has GREAT beer. Large variety, and fresh. The waitress was lovely and cheerful. If you do want food with your beer though, only take the huge pretzel with cheesy sauces. Pretzel was good. If you really really want more, maybe take a wurst with no sides. But do not order anything else from the menu. I made the mistake of ordering a schnitzel with spaetle and some sides. Schnitzel was subpar. Spaetle side was disgusting. It was not fresh, and it was reheated in very stale oil. It smelled nauseating just standing on the table. Most things were fried in the same oil. Nobody in our group liked the food, other than the pretzel. The atmosphere was fun but everyone was yelling real loud, so if you g with friends and want to talk, it won't work.

Great neighborhood German pub vibe. They had a good selection of traditional German beers as well as local beers on tap. We popped in for a quick beer before another event and enjoyed a good Weihenstephaner Dunkleweizen... although they called it a Hefeweissbier Dunkle.

Pretzel is a must! It's definitely the best one I've ever had, including the ones in Germany. Beer was good. I'm not a beer person but loved the Oktoberfest beer when I visited Germany. It wasn't the same but the atmosphere was spot on! Definitely recommend.

Great traditional German food, with delicious German and Belgian beer options.

Everybody talks about the pretzel, but sleeping on the PIEROGIS is a full sin. My recently deceased grandmother is a polish immigrant who came to the US as an 11 year old girl and these pierogis are better than anything she ever made. If you disagree, take it up with my dead grandmother. Otherwise, this place is the absolute best. You need a reservation, so keep that in mind. Also, TIP the dolls because the staff is so nice (particularly Tessa) and crazy helpful. Overall 10/10

I wish I could give 0 stars, the first server Literally looked at me confused and shrugged and walked away when I asked about being seated. The next person I spoke to told me that they were too busy helping other customers to help me. So I guess I was better off just going off to F myself somewhere else. Do not recommend 0 stars, go to Taco bell instead at least I know I’ll be disappointed.

I was so excited to come here and ended up beyond disappointed. I think we sat at table 44 and the waiter who served us was obnoxiously rude. I asked to taste two beers before committing to a pint and he literally said he didn’t want to walk back and forth to do so, then proceeded to chill at the bar to drink his own beer for over half of our stay. We then had to ask the bar staff when we needed boxes for our left overs because he left for a cigarette break… this is by far the worst wait staff I have experienced and having worked in the industry myself, I’m being nice with this review. Would not come back because of the service we received. Only reason I gave two stars is because I liked the beer and pretzel I had. Wish I felt comfortable enough to enjoy it and wasn’t disrespected by this annoying server. $110 for pure annoyance.

I’ve been looking forward to going here since I moved to Chicago with my girlfriend and our waiter single-handedly ruined our experience. I hate to leave a negative review but when pints are $22 and you get blown off/literally refused service by our waiter, I have to be negative. I left feeling disrespected. We politely asked to taste a beer before committing to the purchase and were promptly denied by our waiter because he was “too busy”. I’m still not sure how he can be too busy yet have time to hangout and drink your his beer at the bar with his friends and not give us a quick sample. The food was “ok”, but be prepared to spend $110+ while receiving poor service when visiting.

Amazing selection of beers and ciders! So glad we stopped in here for a quick bite. Grab the corned beef sando if you are craving something hearty. Also, the pretzels are huge - perfect for sharing.

Great drink selection. I had the chicken schnitzel strips, and they were awful bland even with the dip. However, my friend had the broccoli beer cheese soup and loved it. The pretzels are HUGE and so are the charcuterie trays! The bathrooms need some work. Kid friendly!

The food wasn’t great and neither was the atmosphere. All the TVs were super loud blasting one of the “Die Hard” movies and I couldn’t even hear my friend during our conversation. Our server was very inattentive and did not check on us once after we received our food. My friend, who is from Germany, got the schnitzel and actually enjoyed it. I tried a bite and it was decent. We got the half-pretzel to share and I got a Reuben. They ran out of sourdough bread for the Reuben so they served them on 3 pretzel buns for me. They were super tiny and skimpy on the meat. It was basically all bread with little slivers of the corned beef on there. I just ate the meat and sauerkraut off of the buns because of how much bread it was. It wasn’t tasty either, unfortunately. I’m a big pretzel fanatic and I’m not a picky eater by any means, but the pretzel was subpar as well. It was essentially unsalted and the beer cheese was a big let down. All the food was just really tasteless and unseasoned. We paid too much money for this bad meal. I would recommend finding another German restaurant to eat at in downtown Chicago instead of this place, as there are many other options.

The food was plenty and delicious, and our server (French braid, glasses 12/15) was super nice and helpful with suggestions, we enjoyed everything. They have an amazing white stout that they apparently get for the season every year that was pairs with skrewball pb whiskey and it was effing delicious. Super clean, chill and warm environment to enjoy.

Genuine German hall experience minus the wild, brutish hooligans. Don’t get it twisted, the Pretzel at Prost is as close to genuine we will find in the city. Love and respect this establishment for it being and long held gem for a good time in the neighborhood. Go and enjoy!
