Great German beer selection and classic German-American food. One of the most underrated locations in Chicago for food OR beer! They usually have Ayinger or Weihenstephaner selections on draft and always serve great food. A local's favorite (me!)

Our waitress Mary treated us very well at this old school bar and restaurant on Irving Park. Try one of the good German beers on tap and relax as you dine on schnitzel, potatoes, spatzel noodles and red cabbage! End the meal with a traditional complementary shot of schnapps with many varieties to choose. Enjoy my friends.

This is, by far, the BEST German restaurant in Chicago! Hands down! Erin, the owner, has created a spectacularly genuine restaurant that is warm, cozy and welcoming. It harkens back to those gloriously rich, cultured German dining spots of old while celebrating classic rustic fare that needs no introduction. The appetizer selection is grand and elegant and includes perfectly prepared hackepeter, a robust jumbo Bavarian pretzel, delectable potato pancakes and expertly breaded fried smelt. The lunch menu will satisfy ever taste with terrific savory sandwiches such as the Laschet's Reuben, chicken schnitzel, smoked pork butt and bratwurst. Mouthwatering roasted potatoes, spaetzel, sauerkraut and warm German potato salad are majestic accompaniments to choose from. Their dinners are all "Must Try!" and feature incomparable sauerbraten, Wiener schnitzel, rouladen, goulash and many, many other dinner highlights that truly stand out as superb. Much love, care and attention go into every meal that it's virtually impossible to pick an absolute favorite. They are all spectacular. Outstanding desserts include decadent German chocolate cake, delicious apple strudel and a "too-good-to-be-true!" apple crisp that really sets the bar really, really high. Of course, we can't forget beer! A full, traditionally beautiful bar showcases the finest, freshest selections of German and Austrian beers available to balance and compliment everything on the menu. The staff is just ideal! Friendly, professional, warm and attentive, the staff always goes above and beyond to make ones dining experience memorable. Bravo to them!!! After a great meal and a beer, it's easy to just sit back and feel relaxed, content and throughly happy. Perhaps sit at the bar when done in the comfortable dining room. You're amongst friends. Family. That's how this place make one feel. True, there are quite a few German restaurants in Chicago, but Laschet's Inn far exceeds the usual fare by building the flavor components to an eye-opening level and turns dining into thoroughly enjoyable moments not to be missed. Laschet's Inn is Chicago's iconic German restaurant, and it truly provides a 5-Star dining occasion to be relished. By all means, do become a regular!!!

The food was delicious, and the portions were large. You definitely get your money's worth. We had the lenten special creamed herring appetizer, and it was outstanding. The potato pancakes are more like a pancake; do not expect the Latke style of shredded potato with onion. They are served with both sour cream and apple sauce. The Sauerbraten has a non-traditional white gravy that tastes good but is definitely different from what I am used to. They have a very good selection of draft beers as well as a good selection of beers in bottles and cans. The Chicken Paprikash had very good flavor and richness to the gravy. The Goulash is tender, decadent, and has a little heat to it. The service can be slow, so it is not a place for a rushed meal. The restaurant area is clean and has a great ambiance. The restrooms are separated, with the men's bathroom being by the front of the restaurant area and the women's being towards the back. The men's room is a little cramped, but that is a necessity for space.

Where has this place been all my life! I've driven by here countless times but never stopped in...until Friday January 5, 2024. My wife and I stopped in around 3:00. There was a decent crowd. The place has a warm, welcoming, German vibe, and just feels right. Ahhh... Let me start by saying we intentionally ordered way too much food. Not because we were overly hungry but because it was our first time here and we wanted to sample as much of the menu as possible. We started with a couple of appetizers: A Jumbo Pretzel, and Potato Pancakes. The pretzel was very good and the potato pancakes were great. The serving of potato pancakes was massive, and came with both sour cream and applesauce which my wife appreciated. For her entree my wife enjoyed the Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich. Her German Potato Salad was okay, but I prefer potatoes sliced as disks rather than big chunks, and I also prefer the salad to be a little sweeter. But I'm nitpicking and it won't impact my rating. For my entree I had the Sauerbraten, the gravy had a lighter color than I'm accustomed to, but it had good flavor and the meat was super tender. My Red cabbage was excellent, and the closest I've ever tasted to my mom's! The Spaetzle was perfect - nice and crispy on the outside and tender inside. I also had a cup of Goulash, which was delicious! Service was excellent and very friendly. Prices are in line for a wonderful German meal. We had tons of leftovers to take home, which was all part of my plan. The one oddity was a shower in the mens room. I'm sure it was leftover from a bygone era. It's always fun to see quirky little things like that in old buildings! Lashet's Inn instantly became one of my new favorite German Restaurants. I can't wait for my next visit!

I have passed the Laschet's Inn sign about a thousand times in my life and it took a few friends that started working there for me to finally visit - and boy am I glad I did. This bar / restaurant has great German Cuisine. If you came in with a few friends or your favorite flavor of the week, a few food items off the menu aughta do the trick. There is an assortment of bier by the draft & the bottle that will leave you with a desire to try them all. The staff are really super friendly with a trve vibe. Bonus points if you come in on a night when the owner is bartending because he'll give you all sorts of info on the drafts they have in rotation. If this place isn't on a list of things to do in Chicago, it should be.

Exactly what you want from a German restaurant. Windowless, comfortable lighting, spacious tables. Large but busy enough on a Wednesday to create a fantastic atmosphere. Tons of personality and professionalism out of our waitress. She was a gem! Food lived up to the hype. Glad I stopped by when the jägerschnitzel was on special, it was killer. Spectacular mushroom gravy, delicious spätzle, and the red cabbage provided the needed acidity. Also had a starter salad with an unreal bacon vinaigrette. All around this Laschet’s is a home run. I've come in here many times with my family, and all's been well. We came in last week, and I asked a waiter in our section (our waitress was busy) if he could bring crayons and a drawing page for our daughter. Every other time, they've brought this to our table without asking. The waiter must have forgotten, so I again asked our waitress when she came to our table. She forgot as well. We also ordered fries with one of our entrees and received cooked potatoes instead. When bringing this up to our waitress, she decided to send the owner to our table. The owner asked us how everything was going, and I explained the situation about the crayons and paper. The first thing she said was, "It's not our responsibility to entertain your child".

I've visited Laschet's for over 30yrs. I drank there when it was owned by Herr Karl Laschet. I enjoyed Ursula's food for the years the Kokott family owned the restaurant. I ate just about every dish they had on the menu & the Rouladen was my fav, even when compared to my own mother's recipe. Tonight I dined there with 3 friends, celebrating a birthday. The service was good, I was very disappointed in the food. The Wiener Schnitzel and the potato pancakes were greasy and over fried. The rouladen meat completely fell apart and did not taste right to those at our table who have eaten the dish many times. The bacon and pickle was undetectable. The goulash soup was once a favorite. While the meat is tender & tasty, we found the soup much too spicy to finish after one bite. Despite the entrees being unsatisfactory, the roasted potatoes, spätzle and red cabbage were delicious! The Hackepeter and soft pretzel are very good. Don't order the cheese sauce for the pretzel, it's a weird texture, verrrry oniony and overpriced ($15 for a pretzel with cheese?). We were charged extra for every little thing, an extra apple sauce and sour cream for a table of 4 for our potato pancakes and gravy with the Wiener Schnitzel, etc. No one likes to be nickel & dimed at a restaurant. What happened to the traditional complimentary dessert shot? ☹️ I will end this on a good note by saying the staff was very nice, the music and atmosphere is pleasant, the Hackepeter and beer was good. I will need to look elsewhere for authentic, delicious German food in the future. I may come back for the Hakepeter and beer with a side of red cabbage and spätzle.

We go to Lachets 2/3 times a year for special occasions and have always enjoyed ourselves. Last week was a big letdown. The food was great. We were all excited to be together and celebrate my sons birthday. Greg the waiter put and end to that. He was very curt, short in all his interactions with us. He ignored everyone of us. He was very perturbed when we asked for a sample of one of their many beers. Even more perturbed when my wife asked him if he could please take a picture. He forgot to bring us table bread, forgot our pretzel, forgot our to-go bags. Argued with me when I asked how much longer our birthday strudel was taking. We had to ask other wait staff for help and they were all very pleasant with a smile. Greg was very openly surly and really put a damper on what was otherwise an enjoyable evening. Worst waiter I've ever had. Definitely go to Lachets for great food and atmosphere but know what your getting with Greg.

While the Inn is a little bit away from my hotel, I decided to give it a visit. First of all, Laschet's is not easy to enter and if you did not see the sign with the German Eagle outside, you would walk past it or just go to another place. The atmosphere was interesting with plenty of Oktoberfest/German decorations & pictures. It is however a "plastic German bar/restaurant" with nobody serving speaking German or having been to the country. German music was playing. Service initially was ok but after I ordered, I was give the soup (which was part of the main course) before the starter. The manager apologized. The main course was given just after I received the started which was ridiculous. I sent it straight back. The servers seemed more interested in talking to themselves rather than serving guest. I order white sausage and brown bread for starter and pork schnitzel, red cabbage and roast potatoes. The food at least was excellent which saved the experience!

Hard to find but this small restaurant behind the bar was pleasant but the food was average at best. Coming from a German background, their Rouladen were pretty good, but seemed like they’d been prepared some days prior…. They came apart/crumbled when trying to cut them. The veal schnitzel was way overdone. It was dark grey and clearly spent a few minutes too long in the fryer. Their spaetzle were burnt on one side…. Inattentive cook. The leberkase was average while the sauerkraut was great providing some zing to the meal. The strudel was difficult to cut but had a nice flavor. The pretzel was pretty lame but huge and the liver pate on Ritz crackers could’ve used nicer crackers for the price. The positives included a pleasant server, not being rushed, relatively quiet area in the back and an extensive list of German beer. I’m not sure if the cook was off on a Saturday night or this is the norm. Since the nearby Brauhaus closed we’ve searched for a top notch German restaurant and we will continue our search!

If you're looking for an authentic German dining experience, look no further than Laschet's Inn. From the moment you walk through the door, you're transported to the heart of Bavaria, with the cozy atmosphere and traditional decor setting the scene perfectly. But what really sets this restaurant apart are the incredible dishes they serve. The pork knuckle is an absolute must-try, and it's easy to see why it's one of Germany's most beloved dishes. The meat is succulent and tender, falling off the bone with every bite. The skin is crispy and packed full of flavor, and it's all served with a generous helping of sauerkraut and mashed potatoes, making for a truly satisfying meal. And let's not forget about the Bavarian pretzels, which are equally impressive. They're soft and doughy on the inside, with a perfectly baked exterior that's salty and delicious. Served warm with a side of sweet mustard, they're the perfect accompaniment to any meal. Overall, Laschet's Inn is a must-visit for anyone looking for an authentic taste of Germany. The pork knuckle and Bavarian pretzels are both absolute standouts, and the rest of the menu is equally impressive. With friendly service, a cozy atmosphere, and incredible food, you won't be disappointed. Five stars all around!

Make a point to visit Laschet’s every time we’re in Chicago and are never disappointed. Can be busy at times, so generally call ahead to confirm reservations beforehand. Wait is not usually needed, but have been packed in when visiting over a holiday weekend. Food is great Americanized take on traditional German fare, that is to say a generalization of good German cooking and not specific regional cuisine being offered. Best rouladen anywhere we’ve been - for the uninitiated, order and enjoy, as you will never notice the dill slices and brown mustard unless we told you they were there. Schnitzels are great, as everything else we’ve tried, but prefer fried spatzel over potato side offered. Red cabbage also a surprise, nothing like its pales sauerkraut relative. The best indication of the effort to offer a taste of the old country is on the beer list - dozens of draft and bottled German beers and ales and ONE American one. Nearly perfect ratio.

We did takeout from Laschet's. Got Rouladen and Sauerbraten with Clam Chowder. Great packaging. An immense amount of spaetzle.

Cool older establishment. Nice German beer selection in tall mugs. Large portions and very tasty. The Mushroom Appetizer was a winner.

My husband dragged me here and I ended up loving the food so much. I feel like the experience was wasted on me due to that I don't drink. If you drink and love some German food, this is the place to be! I never had German food before and I felt like I experienced just that here and more. Definitely recommend and wanna bring friends here in the future.

Incredible German fare. The Weiner Schnitzel a la holstein is to die for. Best pretzel I've ever had. If you go on Sunday, the liver ball soup is a must. Just outstanding and you will never leave this place even a little bit hungry. One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago.

Great beers, service and atmosphere! I have been here before but it was a long time ago. This time I was reminded that I should really try to visit more often. Our party of four did not have reservations on a Saturday night, but we were still seated in about the time it took to have a beer at the bar. The food was solid german faire, very tasty and filling. Our bartender, hostess and waiter were all on point. I'll be back, Laschet's! Keep it up!

Nice place, good service, great food, amazing beer. I just think it could stand for an updating or at very least a good deep cleaning, especially the items hanging from the ceiling.

Cold Chicago winter means Laschet's is on the menu. Came for the goulash and the real star on the plate was the red cabbage. Our party of four were able to get a seat at the bar at 7 on a Saturday while we waited for a table. Not even one beer's wait and we were seated. They do take reservations so maybe plan ahead if needed. Delicious pretzel, lentil soup, and classic German flavors with warm potato salad, sauerkraut, spaetzel and meats! Plenty of German beers on draft to enjoy. Thanks for the comfort food and kind service!

Love this place from when I used to live in the city! It's got great German food and actual German beers on tap ready to go. If you want to eat and drink like a German stop here. Can not recommend the smelt as well!
