A lovely restaurant with tasty, well seasoned food. We dined in, but it would also be good takeout. Doubles box is a must. It is also vegetarian. I got the cornmeal fried fish. It was fresh and delicious.

My friend found this restaurant and I'm SO glad she did. As a native NYer visiting NOLA I would have never thought to look for a trini restaurant. As soon as you walk into this small restaurant, you're treated with exceptional service. CJ was our server, super friendly. The whole menu sounded so good, but I opted for curry chicken with double rice & peas, and doubles with sorrel to drink. First, this is Sorrel made right. My friend and I shared the doubles, so with my meal I had a decent amount of food. Everything was absolutely delicious and flavored to the T. Before we left for the night, we found out QTL is run by the family, and met Chef Lisa herself. Even if you've never tried west indies/trini food, RUN to Queen Trini Lisa!

The positives- courteous staff. They were all very polite and friendly. The sound of soca music playing in the background created a relaxed atmosphere. The negatives- the FOOD. I've read all the reviews but I have to be honest. The doubles box which costs 12.00 USD, contained 2 doubles with a small serving of chutney/tamarind sauce. The bara was not fried thoroughly, it was quite raw. The oxtail platter was served with salty rice and peas. I chose a side of colored greens which was inedible owing to the intense taste of salt. The platter was served with 2 small fried bananas, not plantains as indicated. It was quite disappointing.

We live in NOLA and dine out frequently. Honestly this is easily one of the best meals we've had in the city. Service is great. So friendly. Owner and son C.J. chat you up. So nice. Atmosphere is exactly what you want. Feels Caribbean. Goat curry, ox tails, cabbage, spinach. Plantains are the best we've had. Everything was perfectly seasoned, just the right spice level. Proteins were cooked perfectly also. Don't miss the hibiscus tea with cinnamon. Amazing restaurant.

Where do I even begin? From our first step in, CJ greeted us and made sure to make us feel welcomed, to the arrival of our insanely delicious and authentic Trini food, everything was top-notch. We split the double for our appetizer and I had the ox tail with cabbage and peas and rice for my meal. The sauces were 🔥 and the food was tender, flavorful, and tasted like the love that was flowing in the restaurant. At the end, the Queen herself came to talk to us and we got to meet the rest of the royal family including her two daughters. The experience was regal and nothing less.

What a delightful, hidden gem of the New Orleans restaurant scene! As a gluten-intolerant vegan, I'm always happy to find a place that has ready-made options to suit my needs–and the Vegan Plate has not only everything I need, it's also super delicious! We also got the Sorrel (Hibiscus Tea), which seems to have a hint of cinnamon, which is an ingredient I find makes a refreshment actually refreshing. On top of the excellent food quality, the restaurant is clean and bright, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Queen Trini Lisa even passed by all the tables herself to see how people were enjoying themselves. We can't wait to go back!

Good lord was this place good. If you're in NOLA run, don't walk, to Queen Trini Lisa. I do food tours for a living and I've got to say that the meal I just ate was one of the best I've had....ever. If you like spicy Caribbean food please do yourself a favor and pay them a visit. One of the things I talk about on my food tour is how NOLA is the northern-most Caribbean city in the world so our cuisine is very much influenced by the flavors, ingredients, and techniques of the Caribbean. Therefore this restaurant is one of the most culturally significant restaurants if you are interested in the roots of New Orleans Creole cuisine. When I walked in I noticed another very well-known chef eating and raving about the food to Chef Lisa so I know I'm in good company with my opinions. Anyway, I ate their famous Jerk Chicken, Ox tail, and Vegan plate with beans and rice, plantains, and spinach. All of it was off the hook good with flavors and spices that mixed well together. Be sure to have your napkin nearby because your nose will run. It's spicy, yes, but not so spicy that you can't enjoy it. It's just perfect. If I could give 10 stars I would. Now go get ya some.

Let me start off by saying I enjoyed the food I had the chicken curry today it was good my coworkers had the jerk chicken and curry combos...now let me get to the bad part,I felt like $81 for lunch for three people is way too much ...plus there was no price anywhere listed for the specials it was $22 a plate for lunch..there are way more options we could have had for way less and the food would have been just as good...I really love mrs Lisa and want her to succeed I hope she sees this post.

One quick google search into the “Best restaurants in New Orleans” will leave you craving Queen Trini Lisa. This restaurant started in 2022, quickly became a Mid-City staple for its unique story and rich cuisine. Needless to say, I was dying to try it… I was instantly enamored by its charm. It being located in a stunning house converted into a restaurant makes you feel like you’re eating among family. When my party of 8 arrived, the Queen herself stepped out of the kitchen to greet our table which was a memorable touch. Now to the most important part - The food: ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Unpretentious hot food served on cold plates makes you feel like you’re back at mum’s for Sunday dinner. The fish had a satisfying crunch and the BBQ jerk chicken couldn’t stick to the bone. This is the kind of restaurant where you feel like you’re apart of something more significant. No doubt a future institution of New Orleans that I was lucky enough to try before tourists catch wind.

We are originally from Trinidad and Tobago, but live in Tallahasse, Fl, so finding a good trini restaurant always reminds us of home. I’ve eaten at Trini/Caribbean restaurants in Miami and Atlanta, but Ms Lisa is the real deal!!!! Food was 10/10. Doubles was 10/10(Cucumber sauce included!). Curry chicken 10/10! The meat was juicy and fell off the bone. I highly recommend this place. It is a very clean restaurant and Ms. Lisa is the best!

Best food I’ve had in New Orleans by a long shot, hands down, no contest. The first day we showed up late and they had just sold out of jerk chicken. We got the curry chicken and the doubles box. Both were incredible. I’d never had anything quite like the double box flat bread. So soft and juicy. Messy…. Very messy, but I didn’t care. The first meal was so good we came back the next day for lunch and had the jerk chicken. It was the perfect balance of sweat, savory, and spicy. Queen Trini Lisa will forever be on my short list. I moved into Queen Trini's neighborhood after spending my first 20+ years of life in Mississippi. Her stir-fried cabbage, spinach (greens), and fried fish are reminiscent of home while being an exciting intro (for me) to Trini flavors at the same time. Her son Cliff gave me friendly and attentive service. She came to my table and asked me if I liked hot sauce, to which I said yes, so she said ok and brought some of her homemade hot sauce to my table outside (it was fire, of course). (This really pushed it over the top for me, I was totally smitten). The hibiscus tea was a first for me, it was refreshing and delicious and went perfectly with my food. The plantains were hot and a sweet addition to every bite. I mean, I could go on and on. (I will). It's such a lovely family-owned restaurant and Queen Trini Lisa and her son Cliff are kind, attentive, friendly, and passionate about sharing and celebrating Trini cooking. I haven't seen better hospitality nor eaten food this flavorful; I was smiling and shaking my head the whole time I was clearing my plate. I want to thank Queen Trini for letting me eat her cooking, and I really want her restaurant to be here for a long, long time. Go here!

I learned about this place from TicTok, so my family and I decided to dine in while in town for an event. The service was very good! The owner, Queen Lisa, came out and spoke with us. The menu is small, but that gave me the impression of “quality over quantity”, which is always good in my book! Here are the Pros and Cons: Pros: -Wonderful customer service. Owner was super friendly, and engaging. While walking out, the staff thanked us for coming in. -clean and neat dining area -Fish and Chips: very flavorful and fried to perfection! 10/10! -Jerk chicken: The sauce was very flavorful, however…we found it difficult to enjoy due to the high number of tiny bones we ran into while chewing. -Island stir fry cabbage: Delicious! Just the right texture, loaded with flavor,10/10! -Rice and peas: also delicious, but they were not as hot( in temperature) compared to the other food items on the plate. -Oxtails: I came to the restaurant wanting to try the oxtails. When I did not see them on the menu, I asked the waitress if they still served oxtails. She told me yes, but only on Saturday’s and Sunday’s. Lucky me, I there on a Saturday, so I ordered the item. Delicious sauce! Meat was flavorful, however I personally felt the oxtails could have been just a tad bit more tender. -Curried chickpeas on flatbread. I ordered this item to go. As a token of the owner’s appreciation, this item was on the house! The flatbread was light and flaky, paired well with the chickpeas, cucumber, and sauce toppings! Got the spicy sauce, was a little too hot for me. Next time I will try the mild sauce option. Overall, was delicious, 10/10. Cons: -Location: Leaves much to be desired, but the best places to eat are usually off the grid! -Even though our waitress was super duper sweet, she was very soft spoken. We had to ask her to repeat herself pretty often, even after asking her if she could speak loudly. -I was verbally told of the oxtails only served on certain days. However, that information was not on the menu. It was a good thing I asked, otherwise I would have never known the restaurant serves oxtails. My advice is to add the oxtails to the menu, along with the specific days they are served. It was me and my family’s first time visiting Queen Trini Lisa’s Island Soul Food Restaurant. We all agreed the next time we are in town, we will be returning!

This is a place where they improved the hibiscus drink with cinnamon goodness; cooked rice with pigeon peas to perfection with herbs and a good tomato base; had the good dark chicken tender and flavorful in a rich savory jerk sauce, perfectly cooked sweet plantains not salty or oily in a quaint corner on the street. Do not forget the mango hot sauce!! As a caribbean foodie, I can vouch for how good this place is. Lovely staff, i wish them the best. Juan.

This is, without a doubt, the best food I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is calm and cozy, the service is wonderful. Both the owner and her son make you feel at home as soon as you enter. The food itself was exceptional. I ordered the fried fish and doubles box and all of the flavors, including the incredible hot sauce, were impeccable. You haven’t lived until you’ve eaten here.

We come to New Orleans as often as we can. We heard of Queen Trini Lisa from the NYT article naming it one of the 25 best restaurants in New Orleans and decided to give it a try. We are glad we did and will be back for sure and will emphatically tell our friends to give it a try. The food was outstanding - both the curry chicken and the jerk chicken were delicious, and the doubles were a treat we can't wait to have again, and that doesn't even touch on the cabbage, spinach and rice which were all flavorful, fresh and satisfying. I only wish we could eat there again sooner. The staff was super friendly and helped to make the evening even more memorable.

This is a great neighborhood spot and the staff are very friendly. Queen Lisa herself came to our table and shared her story and passion for food with my party. She has a heart of gold which is evident in the way she cooks. My partner is from the Caribbean and loved this meal— it is truly authentic. The spices are even sourced from the Caribbean to ensure consistent flavor. Our dishes were very vibrant without being overwhelming, which is a difficult balance to find. We ordered plantains, the oxtail special, jerk chicken, and curry chicken which were all delicious. Prices are very reasonable and it’s BYOB which all allow for an affordable meal out. I recommend this for a casual dinner or even for pick-up. There are also some outside picnic tables if you care to have your meal when the weather permits. Def recommend coming here and I hope you get the opportunity to speak with Lisa and experience her food.

Came here because I found out Lisa won the Best Jerk Chicken Award, and was not disappointed. Had the jerk chicken/curry chicken combo with two sides and two plantains (sides and plantains come with entree), and it was delicious. Personally, I liked the jerk more but maybe because there's not many jerk option in Nola compared to places that sells curry, but it is still good overall.

A very pleasant ‘one of a kind’ restaurant owned by the chef, who prepares the meals with love. Trini and Caribbean music make you feel like you’re in the islands. Lots of nice plants and tropical art create a homely atmosphere. Lisa and her staff compliment the atmosphere with warm hospitality. And of course the food is great! You must try the curry chicken and the fried fish. Fried plantain and rice and peas are just like home - wonderful! The sorrel drink is also a must. You may not find it anywhere else in New Orleans. I’m from Barbados and visited Trinidad many times, so I can say Queen Trini Lisa is authentic and worth a visit!

Best Caribbean food I’ve had in the whole city. The jerk chicken and curry chicken are amazing every time. I always get the cabbage and a side of fried plantains too. SO good. The perfect takeout meal. The hibiscus tea is also to die for. Don’t miss out on that— I hadn’t tried it until recently and now it’s going to be a regular addition to my orders! Queen Trini Lisa herself is also an absolute delight. She and her staff are so welcoming and kind. You can really taste the love in this food. ❤️

My granny is 80 and the best review I can get from her whenever I take her out to eat is “It's okay” but after we visited Queen Trini Lisa my granny said “its pretty good” AND ordered a to go plate of more fish. My granny normally eats like bird but not today. Granny finished her entire order of the fried fish with 2 sides & plantains and my 3-year-old son was literally scoping his vegan plate up with his hands- almost licked the plate clean. I'm not being dramatic the food was that good! My Husband and I shared the fish on coco bread sandwich & the doubles it was epically delicious seriously. And the sorrel!!!! Multiples ordered. We actually met Ms.Lisa and she was so sweet to my family made us feel like we were family. Definitely coming back!
