Excellent food and wine at very good price. The way the seating was sectioned off in small distinct areas added to the ambiance. We had a wonderful waitress who was extremely friendly, knowledgeable about food and wine options, and down to earth. When we return to Portland for another trip this restaurant will be at the top of our list.

There were some nice items on the menu. The restaurant was a convenient downtown location. It was however, very cramped. We were displeased when after one staff person had seated us, we witnessed a manager or someone scold that person and then ask us to move to yet another seat after we were all comfortable and looking at the menu. It was like something out of Fawlty Towers. It was simply not-on. Wherever we were, there was a fair amount of traffic and the bathrooms were small (though clean - likely because people can barely fit in them anyway). There seemed to be few or no options in terms of spirits to drink. Nor were soft drinks on the menu. These sorts of choices perhaps reflect a certain vibe proprietors like. Sadly for this customer, it left me feeling not all that welcome. Still, the food was good.

Loved our dinner at this friendly classic Italian restaurant - first time in Portland in a while and the dinner was just as super as before. Lovely little restaurant. Perfect cooked to order dishes. We shared the delicious mussels in pistachio butter. My husband's seafood pasta in a white sauce was perfect as was my eggplant rolled around a lovely ricotta filling with angel hair tucked on the side. The waitress was great. We look forward to returning.

Warm, friendly, cozy, and, delicious, delicious, delicious. Our group of four Boston culinary adventurers had the pleasure of dining at Ribollita on this weekend of historic coastal flooding. Selected by me representing the vegetarian segment for the white bean hazelnut ravioli, it was a pleasant discovery to learn that the restaurant namesake was also vegetarian, sadly not even promoted as same. All of us ordered the ribollita and almost ordered seconds. Worth noting we also ordered one carafe each of the “house” red and white wine which was perfect for the meal. Great place and we can’t wait to return. John and Jon

I’ve been coming to Ribolitta for at least 20 years. It was an Epiphany Eve meal with family though our intrepid trekker was on the Long Trail in VT. Our waitress was lovely, very solicitous but didn’t hover. She refilled water glasses throughout our meal. The starting bread with rosemary and crunchy salt was perfect. We ordered the Ribolitta (soup), Caesar salad and panzanella. Wow each very different, each delicious. The Ribolitta was deliciously aromatic to the entire table. For our main entrees, we had chicken puttanesca, gnocchi with prosciutto and peas and Tuscan fish stew. Good flavor in each, good depth. Nothing too heavy. Sauces were unique to each dish. It’s obvious the effort of the kitchen in preparing these dishes. We finished the meal with vanilla bean flan and chocolate torte with raspberry sauce. The flan was caramel-forward in a good way. Food was delivered just right. We were checked in on a couple of times and weren’t rushed. Nice meal, good service. We’ll be back!

We had a delicious meal at Ribollita last night. We called the day before for a reservation - easy. Lots of on-street parking on a Saturday night. Nice quiet setting with jazz playing. Cozy, but not cramped. You can easily have a conversation. The bread was an herbed focaccia. Nice wine list but limited bar offerings. For starters, my wife had the Ribolita soup and I had a Caprese Salad. Delicious and beautifully plated. For the main entree, I had the Roast Chicken Puttanesca - delicious in every way and a healthy serving. My wife had White Bean Ravioli with Hazelnut Balsamic Butter. That was fabulous and I've never tasted anything quite like it. The dessert menu was pretty standard and freshly made. I had the tiramisu and my wife the fan - very tasty. Great service, and reasonable prices for a Portland restaurant. We hope they stick around because we'll be back!

Confirming some of the other reviews - service/kitchen is slow, food isn't very flavorful and ambience is lacking. The server stopped by to offer salt and pepper after our food had been delivered (which would have been a clue if I hadn't already tried some of my dish) but then never came back to deliver the salt and pepper.

We attempted the Italian Bizarre and opted for Ribollita instead. We are so glad we did. First, we recommend reservations. We lucked out with a last-minute table this evening. The interior is quaint. We opted for a bottle of Chianti. It tasted well, but my husband would have preferred the server to refill our glasses. We ordered a Caesar salad to share. It was a hefty portion. It's definitely enough to share. The complimentary bread was, eh? The bread tasted stale and could have used oil for dipping. For our main meal I chose the ravioli and my partner chose the gnocchi. Both meals were hearty and full of flavor. The pan sear on the gnocchi was unique and added a bite I didn't expect. We'll be back!

Extremely overrated! I’m not sure how this establishment has received a 4.4 star rating. Inside is a cramped and stuffed atmosphere…very miserable (like our server) who I can’t even name drop because she never introduced herself. Upon arrival you can expect to receive 4 crouton-sized bread crumbs as an “appetizer”; when you would like to eat more than a NYC street pigeon they scoff at the request of more bread. Pro tip: don’t follow this up with the handful of cardboard calamari that’ll run you $13.95. Plan to bring some entertainment (for when soaking in your misery gets old) while you wait for your entrees. Don’t let the anticipation build too much during your one hour wait. Expect edible food with a pathetic amount of flavor delivered with a side of unbearable attitude. This restaurant is an insult to Italy and the uncomfortable atmosphere made me wish I took my girlfriend dumpster diving instead. We loved the girl bussing our table I wish we could’ve tipped her.

We noticed this place on our way past Duckfat and it looked really cute. After checking it out online (to make sure the kids would find items to their liking) we decided to go the next night. We were able to get a reservation for a Saturday night, and while they clearly were not as busy as they had been the evening before, we were pleased by the attentiveness of the staff (hostess and waitstaff) throughout. We shared the antipasto, and all enjoyed our entrees. Then two of us indulged in dessert (an affogato is always a treat!) while the others had coffee. Portions were good, service and timing was very good (things came out and then were cleared prior to the next course), and it was a charming little restaurant. Glad we found it!

If you are looking for authentic Italian this is not it. Do not let the photos fool you. The food was cafeteria quality at best. The “homemade” pasta did not taste like it was homemade or even fresh. It tasted like it had been made and frozen for some days or it was straight from a box. It certainly did not have the taste or texture you would expect from homemade pasta freshly made. The food was also bland. The pasta alfredo with chicken was awful. The chicken tasted old and the entire dish was without flavor. Attention Mainers… please start seasoning the food. I think they thought the alfredo sauce would flavor the bland chicken and pasta. My wife had the Cannelloni. It tasted like it came from the frozen section of the grocery store.

We made a reservation to celebrate my birthday. We've been to Ribolitta's many times--no more! What a disappointment! We knew that the menu hadn't changed since we had been going there but now there is hardly anything appealing. No beef, pork, scallops, white fish. The only seafood is a fish stew and a few bits of seafood served with pasta and sauce--nothing I like. An Italian restaurant with no meatballs. Had to settle for chicken saltimbacca with soggy white beans and kale (which I hate). I can eat chicken easily at home--what a disappointment! Nothing to choose from. One of the staff said the menu changed years ago. Funny, we were there last year and we had choices. We will not be returning or recommending it.

We were warmly welcomed when we arrived early for our reservation and promptly seated. Our server, and I'm sorry I don't recall her name nor was it on our receipt when I checked this morning, was delightful. Helpful, knowledgeable about the products, attentive - everything one wants a server to be. Was slightly disappointed we couldn't start the evening with a cocktail, as it is a beer/wine only establishment, but, the quality of the food made up for that. We were there for Maine Restaurant Week and selected from that menu. My husband had the stuffed pepper as an appetizer and I had the rustic vegetable and bread soup. Both were just right - full of flavor yet appealingly light somehow and refreshing. Entrees were a sole dish with pasta and I selected the pasta bolognese. Husband was happy with his dish; at first, having expected a rich meaty sauce in tomato, I was a bit taken aback by mine. However, by my second bite I was enchanted. Again, rich in flavor but light and interesting. You know a chef knows her business when servers don't come by to offer extra cheese - a delicious cheese had been freshly grated before serving and it was just the right hint of flavor. Other flavors and textures I couldn't quite identify but they were lovely together. The pasta was fresh and wonderful. And the desserts, included in the special, wonderful, too. Only drawback to this space is: tight quarters for most of the tables. However, we'll go back regularly, maybe early or late when there's less of a crowd.

Came to Portland for our 33rd anniversary, came to Ribollita just from reviews. What an awesome place, had the Northern linguine with white sauce, which was fantastic. No sand grit in seafood. The wife had the short rib which she loved, and she is a very picky eater. Wish we could fit dessert. Enjoyed it immensely.

Love this place! We've eaten here 3, or 4 times and love it. One feels pampered, but not pestered. Professional staff. (Jim on weekends). Food is thoughtfully created.

Authentic Italian offerings. Prepared and serviced nicely. The wait staff were very attentive and helpful with describing the menu items. The mussles were wonderful. The entrees were Canneloni stuffed with ground veal and a rad sauce and my wife had Almond crusted scallops with a...
