Went to Shibui for the first time tonight with my husband for date night. Can’t believe we’ve never tried it before. You can tell it’s an older place but it was very clean and all of the staff were very friendly. We have been missing out! Jake, our server recommended the portobello mushroom appetizer and it was delicious. So full of flavor - the definition of umami! We also had pork dumplings and tempura vegetables. They were all very good but I think the vegetables were overpriced for the amount we received. I should also mention that there are no green tea refills and they are $4.00 each so keep that in mind. We both ordered dragon rolls. My husband got the spicy one and I got the coconut which was different and so tasty with the touch of sweetness! Both our rolls were a little hard to eat because they fell apart when we picked them up like they weren’t rolled tight enough or the rice wasn’t sticking. We finished our meal with Thai donuts, which we also enjoyed. Not sure but the taste made them worth the effort. We will definitely be back…but we will probably stick with water.

Have eaten here for 20 plus years and the food and prices have changed , not for the good! Hamachi Kama was undercooked, soggy with a very odd taste. Cuke crab roll was falling apart and the vinegar dip tasted like corn. Tuna Tataki was ok. Sadly we’ll be skipping this once tucked away gem. This was the 2nd time we ordered out recently from here and realized something definitely changed as far as food quality and taste. Will be looking elsewhere for sushi nights. Sorry Shibui. Sayonara

ALWAYS a great experience in a unique environment. Table seating on first floor, floor seating on second, with a sushi 🍣 bar adjacent to floor seating on the 2nd. Reservations are recommended But if you're a walk in and sushi bar is available take it, sushi chefs are nice and food is made quickly there for you. Very extensive menu of sushi choices and entrees are available as well. Great drink and dessert choices too, fried cheesecake with a scoop of ice cream is delicious. Great place for a date night or to try a New restaurant. ENJOY!

I have been there to dine in twice, once with my family and one time with my cousin. Both times was super delicious, and I sat on the floor both times. The acevichado and spider are my favorite rolls. Really good and totally recommend.

My experience at Shibui was amazing from making my reservation to an excellent dining experience. We had the Spicy Squid, the Scallop Stir-fry, and the Triple X Sushi Dinner. They were all excellent in taste and presentation. Our server was very attentive and made great suggestions. Definitely coming back soon.

Me and my boyfriend came here for date night. The food was really good! We even took an order to go; zero complaints on the food. The upstairs traditional sitting style was a cool new experience as well. We’re definitely coming back! The only reason I took off one star was because of the service. Everyone we interacted with was nice but there were long stretches when our server didn’t check on us. We had to ask another employee, twice, to call our server. Not the biggest deal. Seems like something that can be fixed easily by management. Other than that everything else was great! Definitely coming back

New Owners… Another case of new ownership making ever so slight changes and a formerly “go to” place for great Sushi is ruined. Service is key to my poor rating. From calling to try and make a reservation, getting transferred to 3-4 people (no one knows what is going on) to visibly unhappy servers which make the atmosphere unbearable. After decades of great meals, birthday celebrations, experiences, etc…we’ll have to find a new Sushi GoTo restaurant.

We have been here multiple times and have no complaints, food, atmosphere, and service, is always great. If you set a reservation for a special occasion, they will even set some decorations. We did for a birthday, and it was the sweetest decorations we weren't even expecting. They have the best ginger dressing anywhere, I order the dressing for home sometimes, too.

I was speechless, I love Japanese food, the place is spectacular, my stepdaughter booked the upstairs which is sitting on the floor on some cushions but there is also chairs to sit in case you don't want to sit on the floor but there are To live that experience is another wave, an experience that fascinated my husband and I, the excellent service, the beautiful decoration outside and inside, I was fascinated with the place.

This place sucks I wouldn’t eat here ever again. I’m tired of ordering takeout, them telling me a certain time and then me having to stand outside their door for 1520 minutes. today they told me 45 minutes so far I’ve waited one hour and I still haven’t got my food.

Cozy Japanese restaurant, with an authentic feel, you will find dishes here that you don’t see easily in other “Japanese” restaurants, really good sushi and ramen, plenty to choose from.

Overall a very nice location and great fresh food. I went on the second floor with the traditional Japanese sit down style. It was a little condensed but doable. It felt nice and cozy.

As far as Japanese spots go, this one is pretty good for being in the middle of the miami suburbs - pricing is decent and options are varied and you'll find the usual here. Not the best or most authentic but it's a great neighborhood restaurant and the layout is fun and very Japanese.

I have been a customer of Shibui for 40 years and today I had a really bad experience. The staff has changed and the service is horrible. I sat at the bar and after 10 minutes the waitress asked me what I wanted. I didn’t even get water. I ordered and after 20 minutes the people that came after me were served and I didn’t get any food. I decided to leave and spoke to the manager on the way out. She apologized as well as the waitress but sadly no option was given. So sad to see one of my favorite places decline at such a fast rate.

This place used to be amazing, so good. But they switched owners and the quality has gone downhill, from the food to the service.

Only place I found in miami that lets you sit down to eat Japanese style. Food is delicious and fresh. Alot to choose from the menu whether your into sushi or noodles to karaage chicken! If you’re not a fan of floor seating, they do have regular seating downstairs. On busier nights, try to reserve over the phone especially if you want to seat up stairs. Great place for a date night or to celebrate! (or just enjoy some good authentic tasting Japanese food)

This is my by far my favorite restaurant. No better sushi than here. Service is wonderful and love the different atmosphere. Fresh and delicious sushi. Would recommend 100%. All I would love is if they can bring back the fried cheesecake bite because the big piece of cheesecake always comes out frozen and cant be eaten.

I came for my Birthday day , I had reservation at 8pm I been coming to this Restaurant since 1984 , I have really enjoyed always the food and service . This time I got there was seated promptly , even had my table decorated WoW . The serve was a nice guy but he was probably Quadruple sat , He forget to bring me my extra dressing for the salad and at the end He got my dessert , but didn't say or sing Happy Birthday and fell rush went he drop the check I fell rush . I ask for a floor manager at that point He came back and ask me what happen ? So I told him what happened . At the end the made it up came the whole staff and make me feel very special , if nothing wouldn't happen I will have giving you a 5 star. I'm giving you a 5 star because you have been amazing the last few times

Beautiful setting and ambiance. Servers are always nice and helpful. Food is fresh and delicious. We dine in 5-6 times a year. But, we order takeout at least once a month.

Sushi is always good and fresh. Ive been coming here for years and always really great service. Although, Not sure if they changed sushi chefs but the past 6 months they have been consistently getting our orders wrong and long wait times for the correction.

Update review: Disappointed by changes. The service & experience is not how it used to be. Although the food here is good, my boyfriend and I don't go here for ONLY food - we go for the atmosphere and service that Shibui has offered us for some time now. The service was always great and above and beyond. We went for a 5 year anniversary tonight and came out bummed by the changes. It was as if the service doesn't care anymore to put in the effort that made Shibui stand out from just being a restaurant. Here are some examples...And I hope the restaurant actually reads these reviews. When I made this reservation a couple weeks ago, I mentioned it was for a 5 year anniversary for 2. The times we have gone and said it is a birthday or anniversary, they would set out something nice like cute napkins and sparkles on our table. There was no such thing this time. When I had called for the reservation, it felt like they were rush rush rush and now I know why. They have added Lunch Takeout to their menu. To me, this is a huge mistake on their part. Shibui, as I said, has not only been about food, but about the experience and atmosphere it offers. Now they are focusing on food and now adding too many options which lowers the quality of the food and service. Next, the actual dinner experience. Our waiter was not one of the usual ladies that was there, which is ok, but to me his service was average. He did not bother to kneel down to our level to take our order or pour our Sake. (We sat on the second floor where you sit traditional Japanese style, our usual space). In the past, our experience has been that the waitresses have always done little gestures that make you feel like an important customer and make it a great experience. This time around, no such feeling from the waiter. He wasn't exactly rude, but he was doing the bare minimum. Serve food, no experience. He poured uneven amounts of sake because he couldn't bother going down to see what he was doing. He forgot our soy sauce dishes. Also, the vibe felt so informal? He kept saying gotcha and even other waiters I noticed had this laid back, quickly jot down the order and go vibe. Again, not our usual experience...Anyway, towards the end, while we were enjoying our dessert, we had just started it when the waiter came with the bill in the middle of our conversation that I almost forgot what I was talking about. We hadn't even requested it yet. Getting it shown to us like that so fast felt like a whole "hurry up and get out of here so we can feed more people." Shibui used to be 5 stars to me, no questions or hesitations. This time, it's more like a 3 star and only because of the sushi. The sushi this time was still good quality to me although I feel like they changed our favorite, the Spider Roll, a little. But it was still good. Our appetizer wasn't that great though. We had this beef that had scallions in the middle. It tasted like nothing except with the sauce of course. It didn't even taste salted. Overall, I hope Shibui figures out what they want to do...because it is not what it used to be. ---- Shibui is the best Japanese restaurant in Miami. It's our (mine and my bf's) favorite place to go for special occasions. Their sushi is high quality! The best is the Spider Roll. I really love that the second floor is traditional Japanese seating. It makes the experience even more fun and unique compared to other places.

Came here on a Friday night to have a try at Shibui Japanese Restaurant, the fish tasted fresh for the nigiri and the clear soup was great, the service was lacks there were huge gaps in between our waitress checking on us.. when we got the bill there was a 8% SALES TAX? we are in Florida it’s supposed to be 7% and when we asked about it they said the extra 1% was a tourism tax…. But on the sales receipt it’s not listed as a tourism tax it’s listed under sales tax so that was an extreme red flag for us…..

Shibui opened its’ doors in 1981. I’ve been a customer for over 15 years. I remember passing by Shibui when I was younger. I’m now 54. So I have first hand experience with the evolution of the cuisine, the decor, and the changes in ownership. The food used to be superb even the last owner put her stamp on updating the decor, which was long overdue. The change in ownership this past year or two has been quite disappointing. The owner is no longer a host. The front house employees hosting lack personality and are lackluster at best. The place now offers reservations, but it turns away local walk-ins with a one hour expected wait. (This has happened on two occasions.) If you order pick-up food, you will be routed to the side entrance to pick up your food from an unidentified door. It opens and you feel like you are the Uber Eats driver picking up your food. You will be greeted with a view to the stockroom and a paper bag. It was unsettling to say the least. Do they realize these are the very same customers that dine inside paying well over $80? As a longtime customer or any customer for that matter, this is a low rate idea. Who ever came up with this, doesn’t know how to manage customer expectations. The food is not bad, but it lacks the authenticity it once had, not to mention the ginger is subpar. The one good thing is that it is now open for lunch and thankfully they have kept some of the older servers, which provide a familiar and welcoming face to a longtime family restaurant in the heart of Kendall.

I love this place!! You get such good sushi for such a fair price! You won’t find many places where you can get 4 rolls of sushi, a dessert and an App for $70. I never had this experience here. To the new management, I’m a regular and I felt the change, it was disappointing. My hope is that the food doesn’t change. Terrible experience today. My favorite sushi spot in Miami hands down. The fish is fresh the prices are fair and the serving sizes are perfect. I highly recommend their Nigiri by pieces the toro and uni are delicious, Tuna sandwich is delicious as well, and Beef yukke is one of my favorites. For dessert I recommend any variation of their creme brulee with my favorite being the green tea creme brulee.

I came here several months back and was blown away by the quality of the fish. I go fishing regularly and eat a lot of home made sushi so I can tell fresh fish when I taste it and this place gots it. Had a really great experience with my husband the other night. Everything is very clean. The food was phenomenal. We ordered the Phoenix rolls, and we were astonished of how delicious it was. I was told they didn’t take reservations when they do in fact and could not be seated in a quieter area that was reserved for four customers which was a lie as moments later it was given to two separate parties of two (also without reservations).
