Solid place for Korean pork BBQ. Service is good as well as the food.

During my 1 year stay in LA, this place showed very consistent taste and quality with reasonable price. I have been disappointed many times by Korean restaurants with high reviewer ratings. But Sut Bul Jil is a real gem. Their reviews must not come from ad or friendship.

I was enjoying my meal until I found this. They didn't even comp my meal.

Historical place that I have frequented as teenager with parents. Food is still amazing and that is the most impressive thing of all considering all of the changes going on in this world

I have been coming here for over 20 years. It’s always delicious. My favorite K BBQ(galbi) in K town. My three best places are Park’s bbq, Soowon bbq and Soot bull jeep. Soowon became too sweet and salty for my taste. So Soot bull jeep is my favorite.

Venerable BBQ joint. I've been dining here for almost ten years, and I will keep coming back. However, on this day, maybe it was just a slow weekday. Short-manned and short-serviced. Several exhaust hoods seemed to be non-functioning; in the dining room, there was visible smoke build-up.

If you dont smell like smoke when you leave then you didnt eat at the right kbbq spot. This place is a Gem

Went here years ago, but recently returned for pork BBQ. It was so much better than I remembered and I'm not sure why I stayed away. Great service and tasty food. Parking lot sucks, but it's ktown, at least it was free parking.

Awesome real charcoal Korean BBQ. They cook it all for you to perfection over charcoal at your table. Definitely get the squid, it comes out whole and then they cut it up in front of you and grill it. Most amazing 😍

Food and service were all great. We had really great time there. If you want a Korean style sootbul galbi, this is the place you want to try.

One of the best tasting Korean BBQ with real charcoal. Price is expensive but deserved. Good quality meats.

韓国・炭火焼き肉店。煙まみれになります、笑。タンがおいしいかったです。韓国スタイルなのでオーダーした肉が来る前にテーブルに副菜、キムチなど所狭しと並びます。韓国スタイルなのでお肉全乗せされます。乗せないでと言ったらほっといてくれましたが、ちょっと怪訝な顔されました（笑）。

Best Korean BBQ, charcoal really makes a difference. This place is pricey and is not all you can eat but it is fantastic. If cooking your own food intimidates you, no worries, they’re hustling staff will do it for you and help you out as needed. Set a new bar for us. Get the short ribs.

It gets a little over smoky sometimes but it's amazing here. If you don't like grilling yourself, they are more than happy to help you grill. They use real charcoal.

고기 4인분을 시켰고 양은 생각보다 많다고 느껴졌지만 뼈가 있어서 그래보였던 듯 합니다. 1인분에 42불인데 가격은 비싸다고 느껴졌습니다. 직원분들이 고기를 잘 구워주셔서 고기를 구워야하는 수고는 덜었구요. 반찬도 좀 개선하면 좋겠다는 생각이 듭니다. 반찬에 특색이 전혀 보이지 않을 뿐더러 맛있다고 생각되는 밑반찬이 없어서 아쉬웠습니다. 상추 양은 4인 상에 비해 많이 적어보였습니다. 목살을 붙인 갈비가 아닌 진짜 갈비살이라는 점 외에는 다소 아쉬운 부분이 많았습니다. 다시 갈거같지는 않아요.

Nice quaint Korean BBQ in Koreatown. Meat was very good and the meal was reasonably priced. Service was A+

First time visiting this venerable Korean BBQ restaurant. One of the last few KBBQ locations that still use charcoal for grilling meat at your table. And it's so worth your time! A mostly straightforward menu offering featuring their famous marinated baby back ribs, they do offer other selections like soups and noodle dishes. We ordered the beef tongue, jumullelok (sliced beef short steak) and baby back ribs - eaten in that order. Also bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles). Each meat dish was better than the previous but all selections were superb in and of themselves. Quality of the meats was high and our server mostly took control of the cooking process. The banchan was simple and tasty, you can order refills at your leisure. Can't wait to go back!

This place sucked. The service was horrible, maybe they just cared about the bigger groups where the tip % would be higher. Overpriced meat. And the smell from the coals left me with a headache. Watch out for carbon monoxide inhalation!

We came here because we saw this place in a video called top 10 places to eat in Los Angeles. They mentioned in the video that it’s unique because they’re the only place that uses charcoal or whatever. It’s actually not that good at all and the fact that they use charcoal is annoying because the smoke comes in your face and you can’t breath and you walk out of the restaurant smelling so much. Also they don’t bring many salads or appetizers. There’s way better places and for the same price. I will not go back there.

Seasoning each meat were perfect for me 😋 I couldn't stop eating japchae and Kimchi soup too!! Great!!!

It taste is wonderful but price is high

Delicious but the smoke from grilling will leave you smelling like barbecue when you leave. We had a late lunch around 330pm on a weekday so no wait time. But close to 5pm it started to get very busy. Fresh meats and the waiter grills it for you. We splurged on the steak, worth it. There's a parking lot so it beats driving around the block for parking.

Good cut, nice atmosphere. Food isn't the cheapest but you pay for the quality. I would come back.

I’m happy to see this place is still in business. I used to come here a lot, decades ago. The Korean BBQ is so good cooked over the soot bull but don’t plan on going anywhere afterwards because you will smell all day lol.

Well marinated and good quality meats usually marinated in a sweet soy sauce on a charcoal grill. The short ribs, kalbi, were the best item. Kalbi was tender and much better than most places. Beef tongue was thinly cut and good. Baby back ribs are quite unique for a Korean BBQ restaurant, they were good but not sure if the price matched. Ban chan and salad with green onion were pretty good

This place is very expensive compared to other options. Best for old time locals. Inside is quite dingy and meat is very expensive. Their Kalbi is good but overpriced.

Soot Bull Jeep is no frills, authentic KBBQ. Don’t wear expensive clothes (because they WILL smell like KBBQ after) and don’t expect cordial service though.

The best marinated pork rip barbeque I had in years!!!! The meat was marinated just right, barbecued perfectly by the most friendly and courteous waiter, and the radish salad and kimchi were good too. The meat was so soft and yummy! My family had cold noodles and dongchimi noodles, and they go so well with the pork barbecue. Also soybean stew was a traditional, yet clean zesty taste with jalapeno in it, so yummy! I am Korean, visiting LA only for a short time, but I bet all my American friends will find this pork barbecue delicious without doubt. Even my picky eater daughter approved this is really great. My daughters are so upset that we can't have this barbecue in our city. To anyone who is looking for Korean barbecue place, I highly recommend here. By the way, Soot bull (charcoal) jeep(house) is such a misleading name for a pork barbecue restaurant.

The quality of meat is getting worse. Even more, waiters and the male owner do not know who they are, rather mocking and disrespectful to a customer without know themselves. No business mind at all.

Highly recommend - the charcoal grill takes Korean BBQ up a notch. The galbi and kimchi jjigae were some of my favorite dishes. Great environment and service. It has a parking lot that can fill up during peak hours, but you'll usually find a spot.

One of the oldest and still considered one of the best Korean BBQ in Los Angeles located in the heart of Ktown, this is one of a very few who were grandfathered in to allow to use charcoal for grilling as they are now banned in LA. And if you grew up with true char-grilled the smokiness and taste is far superior than gas-grilled. The moment you walk in the scent of charcoal smoke is strong and there is nothing fancy with the decor because it’s all about great meat. They are famous for the marinated kalbi (beef short ribs) and they serve the bone with the musculoskeletal-tendinous meat on the grill. We also tried the marinated pork ribs. First of all the meat was very tender, juicy and sweet, perfect on a bed of lettuce and kimchi. My favorite is the tendon on the bone which adds crunch with every bite. The pork ribs are like the old barbecue we grew up in the Philippines and the charred bones with the meat to end it all nibbling every bit is the best experience. Service was a little slow and the banchan was so-so but we’re here for the meat. As kbbq comes and goes we now understand how this place survived the competition. Just don’t mind the scent of smoke.

This place is awesome I've gone 2 wknds in a row and I luv their spicy tofu soup and all their beef and pork ribs shrimps are good also. If you are ever in the area definetly stop by.

This restaurant has a Oak Wood charcoal bbq grill which brings out many different flavors of the meat and I loved it. Various of side dishes with salads are refilled each time we asked for more. Services were excellent ( waitress cooked for us) 😀 We ordered marinated beef and some beer and So-ju. It was bit pricey, but had a great time with friends. Our meats were little sweet and didn't go well with steamed rice. Would go back and wants to try ones not marinated.

Love coming here. A bit rustic but the food is great. Had the beef and pork ribs, squid and to finish it off, a nice cool bowl of kimchi broth noodles. Price is a bit pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for.

Coming from out of state this is an unexpected gem of Korean BBQ. The house BBQ sauce short ribs can't be beat. Cooked over charcoal you have the perfect texture with the right sweetness in the marinade. You can't go wrong. It has the smokiness of a BBQ but you'll come out happy and full.

First thing you will notice about the place is the smoke filled rooms because the charcoal they use to cook the food. However, do not let that detract you from coming because you will definitely lose out on a authentic Korean BBQ experience. The food servers / cooks are very proficient and friendly. I've been to several Korean BBQ restaurants in KTown and the level of meat quality is noticeable. The quality of meat at Soot Bull Jeep is great quality. If you want high quality Koran BBQ meat then Soot Bull Jeep is one of the best. I highly recommend Soot Bull Jeep for their level of service and quality of Korean BBQ meat. The food prices are reasonable however if you start drinking Korean Soju or beer then prepare to pay extra. Parking is a premium at this location so be patient or prepare to park on the street.

로스앤젤레스 코리아 타운에 있는 고기 집 입니다. 여러 가지 메뉴가 있는데 대부분 사람들은 양념갈비를 먹습니다. 데리야끼소스를 양념으로 해서 달착지근하면서 맛 있습니다. 양이 매우 많이 나오므로 많이 시키지 않는 것이 좋을 듯 합니다. 조선 갈비와 많이들 비교하는데 조선 갈비보다 약간 고기양이 많고 저렴한 장점이 있는 반면 약간 친절도가 떨어지고 청결도가 떨어지는 단점이 있습니다. 하지만 가성비를 생각해서 추천합니다.

Buzzing place always busy. You need to book at weekends I’d imagine. Food cooked right on your table in front of you. So don’t wear your best clobber as you will smell of barbecue for some time after visiting. Well worth a try this place. It was featured on the Netflix Series “Love” with Paul Rust and Gillian Jacobs.

My daughter and I were referred here by a local Californian. Apparently it’s been here for over 15 years. What a treat. Plenty of free parking at the side of the restaurant. When you first enter you are immediately hit with the unmistakable smell of charcoal bbq. It is truly something that brings back childhood memories. The place is sort of broken up into two areas. You just sort of seat yourself. The waitress are friendly, fast and efficient. She explained in broken English that you must order one portion of meat per person or there would be a sharing cost. Note. There were no forks only chop sticks. So we ordered the chicken and beef. It came with an assortment of traditional Korean side dishes. Fish cakes, kimchi, pickled radish and so many more. The staff take turns tending to our table top bbq to ensure that our meat never burned and was cooked perfectly. We left full and satisfied. Definitely worth the drive to Koreatown. 👍🏻

Few places use charcoal BBQ. Those that still do present a unique flavour that propane cannot beat. This place is not much to look at but the food and the charcoal broiled meat are definitely worth a try. I recommend the Baby Back Rib as well as the Short bibs. The Kimchi Stew soup is very flavourful. Service is effective and food quality is great while price points are reasonable. Popular for family and friends gathering. Only one advice; wear old clothes , otherwise your nice clothes would need to Dry Clean to get rid of the BBQ charcoal smell.

This restaurant is off the charts!! We were sent there by a relative who swears this is the best Korean BBQ in LA!! True!! Loved it!! Food was great and he servers were very helpful. Parking can be rough even with their own tiny parking lot next door. Worth it!!

'Korea Town' in Los Angeles is big and there are lots of Korean BBQ spots to consider, but this is definitely one of the best ones! Get the short ribs for sure!

This was our first time eating here on our recent trip to LA and we really enjoyed the food. We had the shrimp, Spencer steak, short ribs, and pork baby back ribs. The amount of food was perfect for four people. Everything was very tasty and even my lucky kid loves it. My only issue was that as a first timer, they should explain how to eat their food with the side plates that come with it and dip. They were very nice people, don't get me wrong, but a little instruction would be helpful. In the end, the food was so delicious that we decided ourselves on how to eat everything. It ate just fine!

You will come out reeking of beef--but "ahh" smells so good. Means that you were at a real traditional, old-style, coal fired BBQ joint with great marinated meats. Delish! Gotta go here if you are in LA

Very helpful as we were not familiar with there menu. Good Charcoal BBQ. That's their specialty so if you're looking for other Korean dishes those are limited.

Totally fast food like but at a grill. The beef was amazing, short rib pretty good. Chicken good. The squid was even ok! The cold noodle soup? Just not my thing. This is not fancy, or even mid way. It's sort of a dive. But in a good way. Will go back!

Ainoa miinus paikassa oli hinta. Bulgogin hinta per annos oli 23$, mikä on melko tyyris vaikka olikin erinomaisen hyvää. Silti suosittelen tätä paikkaa!

My son lives in L.A. and eats in Korea town a lot. This was his 2nd favorite spot. Couldn't get to his top spot because of an accident and resulting traffic jam. Don't know how the other place could have topped this one except perhaps...

Excellent Korean BBQ experience. The food was outstanding (especially the thin marinated beef) and the service was very attentive. As you'd expect, the bbqs are literally in front of you on each table so be prepared to smell a little of smoke by the end...
