The food has the most authentic and it's own personal touch. It's beyond delicious and each time you go. It never disappoints. The staff, every staff member is a delight! They are attentive and so kind. (shout out to Anne!) It might seem like an older restaurant but try it. It's the best Mexican food in the DMV. They also cater!

Ordered takeout. It was pretty bad. I ordered chicken enchiladas. It was so dry, I couldn’t really finish. I ate the chips, salsa, and queso we ordered - that stuff was good.

Food was good. Rice was a little bland, beans were good. Salsa was good, though chips were mostly broken. Horchata was good, not great. Enchilada, the tortilla was a bit stale, but the shredded beef was good. The sour cream, guacamole and pico were good. The steak on the nachos was tender but tasted burnt. Just try it and see for your self and make an informed decision.

Excellent burrito bowl!! I got carryout. The atmosphere was quiet and dark. The prices were good, and the staff was friendly. I definitely suggest the grilled chicken burrito bowl with green sauce. I will return every time I am in North Laurel/Jessup.

Chill place to relax and watch a ball game. Great people. Never tried the food but it looks good. Like that they give you fresh chips and salsa.

I took my 9 month old son here for some good authentic Mexican. We arrived and was greeted and sat at a table. It seemed to be one guy doing all the order taking for both dining in and take out orders. Needless to say he was busy. I had an eager to eat child. We love guacamole 🥑 and so I ordered some and I made sure to ask if it had any spicy peppers because it said on the menu it had Serrano mixed in. I just said put any spicy peppers on the side. The waiter said there weren’t any spicy peppers and even asked me to show him on the menu. Well my son began screaming once he ate it. We eat Mexican/ guacamole all the time. I found the waiter and asked him to bring some water quickly. And he said that’ll be one moment and I said there’s no way I can wait one moment. I NEED it now. My son is screaming bloody murder because it’s spicy. I also received a very tiny cup of guacamole for $10. I was rather disappointed. The poor waiter was inundated, and I felt bad that he seemed to be the only one working to take orders and deliver orders, etc. However, I then asked for some beans thinking that would help my son and some sour cream. However, once I gave him the beans, they were also very peppery. Well my little boy was 100% over at that point and I chose to get the check and leave. All the waiter did was apologize. I still was charged the guacamole and I paid the $10 and walked out. my fiancé and I have eaten Mexican all across the United States. This is probably one of the worst experiences I have ever had. Personally, I love spicy, but my nine month old isn’t quite there yet. I will say the salsa is good but no need to put the raw tomatoes in there as an after thought.

A Laurel staple. Very good food and service in this restaurant (real old timers probably recall this used to be a Howard Johnsons, as was the adjacent hotel) located in the median between the US Route 1 North and South - bound lanes near Main Street. They have good complimentary chips & salsa, which they refill if needed. The salsa is pretty good - the occasional large bit of onion or pepper indicates it’s made in house. Shared 2 chimichangas - we each had half of the shredded beef (good) & the grilled chicken which had a great flavor. Traditional margarita was pretty potent and tasty. Always good service with a prompt kitchen.

Love this place! I judge every other Tex Mex restaurant to the standard of Tampico! The steak is amazing I almost always get the steak burrito bowl. The place has a comfortable, family feel.

Don't let the good ratings deceive you like they did me. This was my first and last time at Tampico Grill. The service was subpar even lower than that. Firstly, neither of the employees could tell me what was inside their burritos (Vague description on the menu)...red flag #1 However, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I waited about 40min to an hour for 1 burrito. A normal person probably would've left, but I had already made the trip there, and I was hungry. To my disappointment & after the long wait, when I got home I realized they did not fill my order correctly. I don't know what they gave me, but it was some watered-down, messy arrangement of food. On top of that, it had black beans. The waiter had asked me if I wanted fried pinto beans or black beans, and I told him pinto beans. I'm not sure if they just filled the order incorrectly or if they mixed my order with someone else's, but they handed this order to me where I was sitting. How do you mess up an order for a single burrito? Btw this was not even a burrito bowl because when I called and brought it to their attention, the women asked if it had avocado, lettuce, cilantro, onions, & pico de gallo. It had none of those things so this was a completely different order. I was told I would get a call back, well no one has called me back. I gave them the chance to fix it and they chose to ignore me. Please take caution before patronizing this business. You may end up wasting your time and money or even getting sick. Not to mention the lack of proper food handling and hygiene. The cashier who had been handling money was also serving lettuce and sides out of an open container. Also, neither her nor the cook who I could see through the kitchen window had proper hair covering, so it's a wonder people found hair in their food...disturbing, to say the least.

I have been eating here for several years and should have reviewed sooner, The Fajitas and the appetizer sampler are my favorite. They are always friendly and welcoming.

The steak anything is simply amazing. Tender, juicy, and so flavorful. Only gripe. The younger waitress likes to lick her fingers when adding the sides to dishes. Kinda gross to watch. Happens all the time.

This place made my little Texan heart so happy! Our family came on Valentine’s Day & enjoyed complimentary chips & salsa, tasty TexMex (My cheese enchiladas were perfect!), and I got to introduce my MIL to sopapillas (these were much smaller than what you find in Texas but still delicious). I often long for TexMex but between the expense of restaurants and the high chance of being disappointed, I rarely venture out. We’ll be back!

Great little spot. Looks like it used to be a diner and started selling tex mex food. I judge my mexican/tex-mex restaurants by the chips and salsa. Chips and salsa were excellent! Wings were great! Enchiladas were good! Great spot in Laurel. Very old timey!

This is one of our favorite places to eat. Food is usually very good. Tonight, everyone's meal was great, and mine was just okay. I got Chili Rellenos Platter (see picture), and the chili was just okay. The cheese Enchalada was great! Everything can't be perfect each visit, so I'm not taking any stars away! My husband loves their wings and the chimichanga. My son likes the grilled chicken! Highly recommended!!!

Ordering out can be tricky as their website is a little broken. I ordered the large 3 combo fajita and only had two options (shrimp and carnitas). So I chose those two and on the third option I chose carnitas but put a note there saying to substitute it for beef. They did substitute it but then forgot to add the carnitas. So I only had shrimp and beef on a 3 combo fajita option. This has only happened once, but it is still frustrating to see when you really enjoy the food there.

This restaurant has great food and equally great service. They are very community minded and are always willing to participate in fund raisers.

A beautiful hidden place with nice variety of food. Their menu includes beef, chicken, fish, pork and tacos. They offer a lot more. Their food is delicious and not expensive. The staff is very friendly and really honest. They don’t charge you more than you eat like in other places. We left our credit card as well and they had it there until we came to pick it up. They never charged anything else. Imagine if you left it…

We got takeout here during a fundraiser for one of our favorite cat rescues. We took out some tacos, a chimichanga, and some chips and guacamole and it was all great. I was surprised how long it held up after a long car ride home since we did takeout. Next time there's a fundraiser we'll definitely be back and try to eat in because the restaurant atmosphere seems great!

Carnitas platter was just okay. Not very tasty n pork was not as tender as other restaurants. Mixed fajitas (pic) are usually great. A lot of food. Guacamole for the table was good. A tad bland. Very large portion, despite 4 eaters, we had enough to take home. Lunch time service was good n quick.

Food was made fresh it was amazingly what we were looking for as far as authentic Mexican food restaurants. The service was professional and very respectful. The chips and salsa were on point, and the salse home was made. The price was reasonable.

Good meal, excellent service, and generous serving sizes. From the appetizers to the meals, everything was excellent, and the margaritas were especially tasty.

What a hidden gem! It was “Taco Tuesday” so wanted some Mexican food. We ordered to go and it did not take long at all. The two young ladies working the register/counter were very nice and friendly. I ordered the burrito bowl (added onions and peppers) and my son had the shrimp tacos. We were both pleased with the tastiness and amount of food that you get. Will definitely be back!!!

Nice find! Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Food: homemade pinto beans! Can't stress this enough how much of a difference this makes! Chimmi was great. Good seasoning, cooked right.. yumm. Actually left my card, and realized it 30 minutes later.. Came back and they handed it over right away, and were so nice and understanding. Thank you so much!!

Like another poster, I have no idea how this place has good ratings. Our service was absolutely abysmal. There were only 4 tables including ours and two wait staff. I had to physically get up and get the dressing for my salad because neither of the staff came back. We werent offered refills though our drinks were empty for our meal. I had to physically flag them down for the check, flag them down to come take the payment, and walk up to retrieve my change because they didn’t come to the table. When I got in the car I realized the young man didn’t give me back part of my change either and kept a few dollars.

Always a good time and great prices at Tampico Grill. Erin Baker is a great bartender/server. Very accommodating and a pleasant demeanor.

Tampico is one of the local anchors in Laurel. It is locally owned by a great famiky who is always giving back to the community. I went a few days ago and had steak tacos which were delicious. There chips and salsa are awesome. Everything there is hand made including their salsas. Great Tex Mex food. Their Tampico specials are awesome as well.

I gave a 5 star because they have a vegan option. Portabella Fajitas! They are Delicious!!

First time eating here, came for a group event. Good staples of Mexican food, enjoyable atmosphere, excellent service, and had a blast hanging out with some solid people! I loved the sampler platter, the chicken wings were crunchy and super flavorful, the taquitos were amazing, the guac was fresh and delicious, and the Carnitas meal I got was pretty good although I wish it had a bit more flavor. The rice and beans it came with were regular, but I am Puerto Rican and have a slightly higher standard there haha. The Sangria and beer were flowing heartily amongst us, and I heard the the Tampico Grill Margarita was exceptionally good.

Food doesn't disappoint. The price is reasonable and cooked to perfection. The margaritas were.good as.well and good price. There is the resturant side as well as a bar side to the resturant.

I always eat here when I visit the Crystal Fox nearby. The portions are generous and the food is delicious! The young ladies that work there are efficient and pleasant!

I went with my Mrs and a friend from church for a Mexican lunch at Tampico on Wednesday, the first time in about two years. There were diners at only one other table. I saw one chef in the kitchen. Also, there was one other man who did everything else: set tables, seat customers, take orders, serve food, clear tables, deliver bills, and work the register, with perfect English, menu knowledge, and a smile. I chose the BBQ (skirt) steak Ranchero. I was asked how I would like it cooked. I said, medium, explaining that pink inside was okay, but not red or bloody. It came to table red inside, stringy, grisly, unseared. It tasted good, but it was so tough that I gave up on chewing and left half of the small, thin filet on the plate. I didn't complain about it. I don't recommend this beef cut, strangely served with garlic mashed potatoes. The restaurant looked scrubbed sparkly clean. I may return in a year or two to try tacos.

An absolute steal, great food, try the Tampico wings. They're different than other chicken wings, and in my opinion, the best I've ever had. Over the course of my life I must have had them five or six dozen times.

I cannot understand the rating this place has. I am aware I’m spoiled from being on the Gulf Coast with TexMex made by people of actual Latin descent. This was some of the worst food I’ve ever eaten. The queso was clearly canned cheese sauce with rotel tossed in. Our fajitas were dry to the point of being inedible; NONE OF IT WAS SEASONED! Look at the pictures. No salt on chips. No seasoning on any meat or veggies; which were only onions, with a tiny sliver of a pepper. The shrimp were still in shells, lol!!!! Holy guacamole run away from this place.

Ordered takeout chicken fajitas and I was disappointed. It’s seems like regular grilled chicken cut in stripes with almost raw green and red bell peppers. Sides were TINY! Fora $20 meal, one person barely get enough food. The food was also tasteless, not authentic American Mexican (and definitely NOT like real Mexican in Mexico!!) I’ve never dined inside but I won’t be back.

Much better than average Mexican food. A large, diverse menu. We visited from out of state and will be back in the area next year and will definitely visit again then.

Im not going to pull the R card here. But clearly the female waitresses have a bias. They always put my bag and change on the table. Not in my open hand. Never make eye contact. No thank you have a nice day or anything just an eye roll and walk away…. In fact, the male waitress seems to notice so he makes sure he speaks. Thanks to that guy because I leave feeling Extremely uncomfortable as if I wasn’t welcome

Went here for the first time on a really bad date but the food was very great and afforable. Waitress was friendly and i will bring a better date here next time!

Been here for the first time and I wholly recommend the BBQ carne asada. It was the best thing I've had recently and is a great way to start my week. Service was great, very attentive and polite. And definitely get dessert, it is definitely worth it.

This is the best Tex Mex restaurant in the area. You’re doing yourself a disservice by not coming here. Quesadilla burritos and fajitas are always amazing. People definitely leaving fake reviews.

Finally tried this place after driving past it everyday to go to work. The food is great. I ordered take out for me and my wife. We got the large sampler appetizer, a steak taco, a steak burrito, a Pollo guisido burrito, and the chicken enchiladas. All of this was only $63 very good value. The taco was great and worth the $5, the steak had a lot of flavor. Thw burritos were amazing The meats have amazing flavor and the sauces are great. You can pick your own sauce to top your burritos. The enchiladas were excellent as well. The sampler is a good way to start off too. It has a lot to offer. We will define lay come back and try a happy hour next time.

The food was not made the way we ordered it and then we asked for blue cheese for the wings, promised it was in the bag but only sour cream.

My food came out last and the cheese enchilada was cold on the inside. However, my father and my sister's boyfriend thought the food was great. Theirs did come out hot.

So I've been eating here for about 8 years before covid hit definitely my favorite restaurant few things changed after that as did things everywhere but in the fajitas they give you like one or two little slices of red and yellow and all the other peppers are green they messed up on a couple of my orders I think that the food isn't as good as it was before coven I still eat there still enjoy the fajitas but just not as much

This is a great casual dining restaurant with GREAT FOOD, GREAT PRICES, and prompt service. Our server, Evelyn J greeted us warmly and took care of our table attentatively while also preparing "to-go" orders. She is the best!

My husband loves their fajitas. I'm never impressed with my meal, I'd say mediocre. Got carry out from there Friday night and they forgot to put the beans and rice that comes with the fajitas in the bag. My husband was disappointed ☹️.

Really wanted to like this place based on other reviews. The guacamole was good, soup had a good flavor but odd texture like crackers were thrown in the soup. The shrimp on my salad smelled really odd, so much so that everyone in my office noticed and commented how bad it smelled. I threw it out in an abundance of caution. I also asked for extra dressing and side of cilantro which were not given.

My Mom & I were visiting Maryland & we were looking for a place to grab some dinner & found Tampico! Our waitress was so sweet & our food was delicious! Definitely recommend the burrito bowl here, it was so good & very filling!

A hidden gem. The Gold Margarita is delicious and the steak is top quality even in the nachos, it melts in your mouth.

If there were 0 or negative stars, I would rate it that. The "manager", Eduardo, thought that my food allergy wasn't something to take serious. So he basically tried to put me in the hospital because he didn't want to remake my plate. I asked him specifically, before ordering, if the Tampico sampler had avocado/guac on the nacho portion because I am allergic. He tells me no. Then brings me a plate with guac on the taquitos(which were cold). I told him I cant eat it because I'm allergic and that is why I asked in the first place. His response was, "you only asked if it was on the nachos". Then he takes my food around the corner, scraped the guac off and tried to re-serve it to me. Thank goodness I'm smarter than him and checked the food again, to which I could still see green on the food. I tell the waitress I still cant eat it, and she very rudely throws the plate in the bin and tells me not to blame her. I asked for the manger, at the time not realizing it was the same person who already tried to kill me. He takes another 20mins to come talk to me. I told him I'm not paying for any food when you serve me things I cannot eat and he told me I was going to pay for it no matter what. Eventually someone brings me another platter but by that time I was very much ready to leave. The "manager" NEVER apologized and continued to blame me because he couldn't comprehend a food allergy could equal death for some people. The wings were good though!
