Ordering system is awkward which results in a long waiting line. The larger tables are okay but our wall table was terribly uncomfortable, especially for eating. They were busy and the service was mediocre, however the food was good.

If you love fresh, local and inventive food then come here. The food is wonderful and servings generous. We enjoy the atmosphere, the beer and the bread pudding. Seriously, we have yet to have anything that wasn’t stellar. There is a lot of love put into this place and be sure you experience it if you are in the area. We are lucky they are Here.

2nd time there and I wasn't impressed either time. I don't think I'll give it another chance

Fantastic! A flight of creative beers, farm to table eggplant sandwich, home made bread, salad and potato salad with the best tomatoes of my season. Inside dining looked nice but ate outside on the picnic tables under a perfect Michigan evening sky. Made our day!

One of the best burgers I ever had. The sides of potato salad and Zucchini salad were so fresh and delicious. Then we all shared the bread pudding! Yummy. Can’t wait to go back.

The food is INSANELY GOOD. Fresh, fresh, fresh. The garden is right out back. And the beef…. Oh, and the pizza. Wait, the beer!!!! Seriously awesome destination and experience.

I went to have lunch with my mom and had my service animal with me. I stayed in the car while my mom went inside to check their service animal policy. They said we could sit inside or outside. So I go to walk inside & a woman followed me with a high pitched Karen “mam” please go outside we do not allow dogs inside, followed by another man employee shooing me outside. I said he is a service animal my mom just came inside to ask your policy but that’s ok we can sit outside. We then sat outside for 10min with no one even coming to bring a menu. I wish I could comment on the food but I have no interest in giving this place another shot. Disrespectful business.

The meal was fantastic for all great Service was great as always Chef Josh was great.over all 10! The folks we invited from Bay City were very pleased.

They are off the beaten path, but worth the trip. They have a wide range of cool beers to try and always a few interesting dishes. If the food gets a little too overwhelming, they always have great pizzas and burgers.

We love coming to this restaurant whenever we're in the area. The staff are very friendly, the wood grilled food is fantastic, and the beer brewed in the facility is outstanding. Highly recommended.

Food is delicious! Menu changes everyday. The owner is super nice. Can watch them cook the foot right there. Everything is fresh. Only downside is if you love something they have you never know when it will be back again.

Good food. Prices way too high. They make you order your food prior to being seated. They make you pay and tip prior to being seated ? Odd experience. Food good but not worth the price. Paid over $50 for two burgers cold veggies and two root beers.

I had chicken rice with vegetables soup and wifey had pizza. Was great.

This place is amazing!!! We had looked at the reviws and menus online. It looked interesting but somewhat out of the way for where we were headed. We had the duck breast and whitefish - bothe great. All the beers were really good. The staff was friendly and quick with service. We will be back.

It was awesome 🤩 Unique, different yet delicious & fun. Reasonable prices. I recommend it. Look it up on line for menu- cool that u can watch food being prepared & smells wonderful. Definitely worth checking out. U won’t be disappointed

Great casual atmosphere, Excellent farm-to-table fare! I have tried many items on the menu and have never been disappointed. But, I must warn you! Do NOT order the Chicken pâté!! It’s addictive. You have been warned. ;-)

We sought this place out after finding it on the map as we made our way up north. A great concept with a rotating menu, but we wish we would have maybe tried the pizza instead of the sandwich and wrap that we ordered. Just didn't hit the spot. Neither did the housemade maple root beer. All carbonation, no flavor. Each entree comes with butter beans and asparagus (wish it was house-cut fries!). Each table gets a pair of pancake sticks and syrup after ordering.

First time here, I took my family and we had an amazing meal.

Our favorite place in the area! Highly recommend checking their menu online around 11 am before you make the trip because you order right before you pay and have a table. Don’t complain about reservations because they don’t do them. Food is always 10/10. We’ll always be back.

Great little gem. Fabulous BBQ for real. Great little beer selection of crafted perfection. I tried the spare ribs and it was enough for literally 3 meals. Pave is always bummpin so get in early.

I held back from reviewing the first time I was here last year after an underwhelming experience, it wasn't bad but wasn't great, but today I made the choice to give the maple grille another shot. We ordered beers, appetizer, main dishes and a dessert, and while yes it was on the pricier side, this time around I was blown away but the food Everything was cooked to order and that great smokey grilled flavor. The beer was refreshing and my favorite part of the meal was the bread pudding, I'd come back just for that alone. I'm glad I came back to give you guys another chance and will hopefully be stopping in more regularly

Owner was very kind. He took his time and explained the menu. He even dropped off samples for us. Everything was so fresh and hot. The portions are very generous. The beer is made there and I enjoyed the cran-apple ale

Just not like any place around. Always a great atmosphere as soon as you walk in the door. This is where you belong.

The Maple Grille is one of my favorite places to go! Every year I look forward to their ramp butter burger, which is a personal favorite of mine. Never leave hungry or disappointed! Thanks for being a staple to Hemlock!

The food here is amazing! I had the grilled Trout, which was excellent! I wasn't expecting much from the sides, but the salad and beans that accompanied my fish were also great and full of flavor. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. I can't wait to try the next meal!

You have order your food first then go sit down. Plenty of parking. Lots of space at the outside bar to sit and meet friends

I come here for lunch every time I'm in town. I love the cornbreadstick with maple syrup that is promptly brought as soon as you reach your table. The menu always has some new things on it and I've tried something different every time I've visited. Probably the most memorable dish I've had there is the Roasted Chestnut Bisque... So good! I'm a big fan of the vegetable sides that come with the main. Particularly the roasted parsnips are fantastic.

We stopped here on our way back across the state. We loved our food, wood fire pizza is so delicious. My husband said the Blueberry Ale is the best he's ever had! Wish we drove through this way more often!

Food is amazing and staff is always very compassionate, attentive, and accommodating. It seems that some people had a misunderstanding and it was none of the staffs fault. Some people are just incompetent and feel they are entitled to everything. If you want amazing food and quality service Maple Grille will not disappoint. I have truly enjoyed every experience that I have ever had there.

Great food! I live in Clarkston and drive all the way to Hemlock just to eat here. In my opinion this is considered the best restaurant in the state of Michigan.

If you take a name, a group size, and time; Write in the book, tell them you will be prepared for their arrival, and write it on a board for the public to see; That is a reservation. In any sense, what could have been professionally addressed as a misunderstanding in a civil manner; The owner proceeded to run to social media in an extremely condescending manner to sic his cult of boomers on a bad review due to their lack of an experience (the group was told too bad and to leave). There's defending yourself, and then there's being a whiny passive-aggressive arrogant hooligan who plays the perpetual victim. Flooding your company with dozens if not hundreds of false positive reviews is far worse than taking a negative one or two with grace and attempting to mend things, as a professional business owner and adult in general should do. Simply based on the truth of what occurred compared to what is being rewritten, this is one place I personally will not return to and will not suggest to others. Sad that a place that prior had a relatively good reputation decided to trash it over a person/group having a less than ideal experience from what could have been a simple misunderstanding.

Great locally owned business, staff, menu, beer, and atmosphere. Chalkboard, menu regularly updated, so always something new to try.

One of the best spots in the area. Ingredients are fresh and local, and it shows in the deliciously creative dishes that are prepared thoughtfully and to order. They don't take reservations and never have, but you can enjoy a refreshing craft beverage brewed on site while you wait. The wait is never that long because Josh and crew are real professionals. So, thanks Josh for doing what you do because I think that we are lucky to have you and the Maple Grill in our community!

The Maple Grille is a source of pride for the Hemlock community. We've watched Josh build it from the ground up, literally... with hard work, integrity, amazing skills and talent. It's a gathering place for locals and others who come from all around. Yes, it's "cute", but someone who doesn't even know what kind of business Josh has, who thinks they can come and spout off about reservations only looks like a fool. Everybody knows that the Maple Grille doesn't take reservations and if you don't know that, after it's posted everywhere and on your mama's forehead, then you SHOULD have been embarrassed. I'm embarrassed for you when you put it out there for everyone to see and laugh at. Josh, don't let this deter you from continuing what we all know is one of the best out there! Ignore the ignorance.

I have been there a few times now and have been consistently impressed . I just recently tried the burger for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised with how great it was! I will definitely be back the next time I’m in the area.

The Maple Grill is so good that even the daily side dish offerings will blow your mind. The procrastinator in me also loves that you can count on getting a table in the order your party arrives! They don't take reservations.

Was with a bridal party. I was in from out of town. Went to check us in and and there was a misunderstanding about the reservation. Owner was very rude to me and dismissive of our situation. He told me we could get in line or go somewhere else. After receiving such cold energy from him, we left. I will not return, even with my many upcoming trips. *Previous waitress of 13 years and a manager in food for 5+ years

Hidden gem on M-46 near Hemlock. The menu is always fresh, rarely ever the same as the last time we were in, and there always seems to be something new to try. The smell of a wood fire is the best welcome to the unique dining experience. Get there early because there will likely be a line waiting to get in.

We have been dinning at the Maple Grille since they opened. I have never left disappointed. Chef and owner Josh gets me to try items I typically wouldn't. Every meal and side dish is always wonderful. Great meals, beer, and staff. Very family friendly!

To the wedding party full of Karen’s….. yes there was a misunderstanding. The restaurant does not take reservations so gripping about a reservation that did not exist is just dumb. If the owner got short with you , good for him. He at least tried to accommodate , I would have thrown your entire party out in the cold. Btw. We had dinner for my wife’s birthday there on Wednesday and had a wonderful meal.

If you don't take reservations, maybe don't tell people that you take reservations. They had a ticket hanging on the board with our name, number of people, and time...aka reservation. The manager who took the reservation was there and said we were out of luck and would have to go somewhere else or wait for space enough for our group of 15 people. We chose to take our business elsewhere.

I cannot say how disappointed I am with this establishment. I had called weeks ahead to create a reservation for my wedding rehersal dinner. It looked like a cute intimate place we wanted to share with our wedding party, family and friends. I was told they absolutely could accommodate a wedding rehersal dinner and even gave the time we would be arriving. When we arrived it was packed and we had no table reserved for us. We stood there with 17 people embarrassed. It was a long wait and incredibly unprofessional. On top of it the owner Josh who I spoke with said they don't do reservations which he very much lied to me about even though our names where on the board. It was clear we were forgotten or he just didn't care. We decides to take our money elsewhere and will never be back. Ruined a very important life event.

Ive tried something different each time I go and haven’t had a thing that I didn’t love. Everyone is extremely friendly and accommodating regardless of how busy they are. Food is served quickly and never disappoints. If you’re looking for the best food in the area, You’ve found it.

I have been to this place twice. Each time I’ve been there it’s been amazing. Great food, beer and people. A very nice place to have dinner. I highly recommend going here.

We’ve eaten here so many times and it never fails to impress. The food is always fantastic and the brews are great! My personal favorite is the buffalo chicken dip with the flat bread. We’ve also had large parties come in, knowing fully that they do not take reservations. It’s never been an issue for us. Josh is a great guy and a great chef!

Best restaurant in the area- not to mention supporting local. Josh supports local farms and runs his business with integrity. Food is AMAZING, beer is 10/10, and the bread pudding? Out of this world. Won’t find better. Worth the wait, always.

Drop by here at noon. I had a sandwich (I don't remember the name 🙈). But I can say that the meat was very good. The burger wasn't too battered and the meat fell apart easily. Good service always attentive. The place was nice even if there was smoke.

Although the seating is menacing, in its heft, these folks get it, and it’s exactly what we all should be supporting on a regular basis. Rustic, real, non-processed.

The food was good. But had two set sides. If you didn't like one, you could double up on the other. It wold have been nice to be offered a small side salad as a replacement since two orders of potatoes is too much. Definitely not a fan of the "Self-serve " feel. You walk in and go directly to the cashier and order off the chalkboard. Then you go further down and pick up your drink and silverware to take to your table with you. Again, the food was good and large portions, but they wouldn't know as no one checked on us. The atmosphere was just ok. Those chairs were really heavy. Lol

We came here for the tag-a-brew tag. We were greeted with a warm welcome and seated in this comfortable little place. The whitefish sandwich was amazing! My wife had chicken gizzards which were perfectly cooked and breaded. She thought they were a bit salty and they brought a whole new batch just to make sure she was happy. You will not find a friendlier service or a better cooked meal.

Wood fired pizza and smoked wings...this place calls to me in my sleep!!! Every time I go there something new. This is just a great place to check out. Remember rookies, have your order ready and place it at the counter before you pick a seat.
