Wow. I’m not even finished with my meal because I HAD to write this. Incredible. As someone who’s frequented Sheepshead Baygels in NJ; I’m not impressed often and this place hit every mark and more. Amanda was our server, she was attentive efficient and courteous. She’s extremely intelligent with anticipation of the customer and sweet as can be. “Extra napkins in case you’re like my family.” So Clean clean clean. Diners tend to have a bit of that “grunge” dirt but not this place… had the vintage vibes but immaculate. The open kitchen is nice to see the cooks smiling and can tell they put love into your food. And that’s the best part!! I’ll be back with friends. Thank you for the nostalgic taste of NJ/NY finest breakfast. 10 stars if I could 💜

We went there for the first time to meet two other people. Had to wait until they arrived. In the meantime the place is already crowded but there was a table. As people come in they are seated. 3 minutes later our friends arrive. By then there was no place to seat. Nevertheless we left Bad customer service. You lost us now

I've been eating at the NY Diner in Valrico, Fl. ever since Laurie & Jeff took it over many years ago, not sure of the year, 2009 ?, somewhere around there. Anyhow, obviously I've been a Happy Camper there for some time. The business has been sold, I believe three times since then... and I've stayed with the diner faithfully. This review bringing 5 Stars on Service & Atmosphere, but only 4 on food which is being gracious. Why?... Read on.............. My favorite meal is Breakfast of which there are many variations, mine being "NY Strip Steak & Eggs" of which I have always been very happy with at close to $20.00 or slightly higher that demands a $4.00 or $5.00 Tip... last of the Big Spenders? Ha!... what can you buy for $5.00 lately? Some time back, a year or so ago, someone in power changed their Steak Supplier, I assume to increase profits... yes I've asked, no I've received no answer. From that time on, the steak was loaded with fat, no bones, and outstanding in its length, width, and thickness. I must confess it looked delicious laying there in the plate. However, when attempting to cut it with the sharp knife supplied, (ugh) it was near impossible to cut. It was like trying to cut a soft rubber tire... the meat simply rolled back and forth with the knife regardless of from which angle it was cut. Anyhow, after extended cutting, having a few squares to eat... I found that the meat was, as expected, also next to impossible to chew, and was tasteless. In the time frame since the last owner took over, I have occasionally ordered this same Steak & Eggs order, perhaps a month or two between orders, hoping that the diner had returned to their previous supplier... no such luck as the steak was always as explained above... a waste of my time and money. I don't know how something on the plate could look so good, so delicious... to be so disappointing! My last time at the diner, June 10th, 2024, longing for a good delicious steak, I spoke with a waitress who has been there since day one so to speak. I spoke to her about the steaks quality going downhill since the new supplier took over, and asked if possibly the owner may have reverted to his original supplier. She didn't know. I decided to chance it... and ordered the Steak & Eggs breakfast. Upon having my breakfast sat on the table... it was indeed something to behold, BUT as I attempted to cut into it... it was all the same as before... actually worse! In thinking about it, I would explain it to anyone as a thick slice of rubbery meat from a whale the Titanic hit prior to the iceberg, possibly a dead horse that had passed away due to old age, something of that nature, but surely not a NY Strip Steak! Note that this review pertains to just the NY Strip Steak & Eggs breakfast, and nothing else. I will continue to dine there, eating all else from the menu, excepting the NY Strip Steak.

Always a comfortable place to eat. You never feel rushed by the servers. The place is very popular and they have there regulars that let you know the place is consistent in their quality and portions. They make you feel at home when they greet you by name. I had their flavored coffee for the first time, of which I enjoyed very much. The ground coffee is flavored and not a syrup or flavored creamer. There's a variety of dishes to choose from, so you should never go away hungry.

This is a great spot to grab breakfast or lunch during the weekend. Every time I have visited this establishment with friends and family it has been a great experience. Servers are very friendly and the food is always fresh. Their skillets are delicious and blueberry pancakes! Give them a try you won’t regret it.

This place has been here for years now, built off a failed waffle house. The food is unbelievably good and the service is quick and precise. Usually quite busy for those reasons, if you have to wait, know that it is worth it. 10/10

First time here, and I will be coming back for sure. We ordered breakfast and the portions were huge. Great service with a smile, just as I remembered it when I originally lived up North. This place is like Central Station, people coming in and out constantly.

Service was great. Food came out fast and hot which is a good you can't never complain about good fast service and hot food. I will give it another try what I ordered looks very good and delicious I personally just didn't care for it.

Best burger I've had in a long, long time! Cooked perfectly to order. Great onion rings and homemade chips, too! Staff is courteous. I came in on a knee walker, very helpful. Can't wait to go back and try a skillet.

Went here with my family for breakfast and it was great just get ready for it to be busy at times and bring your patience with you.

A friend & I went to the New York Diner just before 12:30 pm. It was not crowded, with most of the counter seats & several tables empty. I had a job I needed to do at 1:30, & I really wish I had told the waitress that before we ordered, so we could have left & found a faster venue. But diners are supposed to be fast, right? We were seated immediately & ordered our drinks. At about 12:35, my friend ordered a breakfast & I ordered a Philly with chips & Cole slaw. At about 1 pm we asked the waitress about our order & were then told that they were short 2 people today & that the breakfasts were coming out much faster than the lunch items, which explained why parties who had come in after us were already eating! We finally got our order at 1:20! I ordered a to-go box, ate a few bites of the Philly & the tiny portion of Cole slaw , paid my bill & left, getting to my job 10-15 min. late. The sandwich was only so-so & the homemade chips were overcooked.

A large number of customers make them ignore individual people. Not for families and larger groups

Everything was great! The breakfast is much better than the chain restaurants like Ihop, Wendy's, or Taco Bell.

That was one of the best breakfasts I've had since my grandma's. Everything was perfect...from the eggs and home fries to the service. Please don't miss out on this fading treasure, there's not a lot of places like this around anymore.

Haven’t been back here since they racially profiled us . Literally gave us a hard time cuz we were a couple college boys in there just in the morning after. Good night out .. anybody that knows my personally knows I’m real respectful but these people showed me so much disrespect and it was unnecessary and sucks cuz I used to love to take my mother here smh

I like coming here. The French toast is amazing. I do wish they had a turkey bacon/ sausage option. I love smelling the new batches of toast being completed every couple of minutes. It reminds me of my mom making me toast as a child.

We searched for a breakfast spot and this place was not too far from where we were, so we decided to go in after reading some reviews. The place is quite quaint and the service was good. I had the southern fried steak and eggs with hash browns. The sunny side up eggs could have been on the griddle for a little longer but not a big complaint from me. The steak was bland, the gravy was Ok and the hash browns were also bland. My wife's omelette was Ok, but the home fries were bland and slightly warm. The toasts were pretty good.

They are totally amazing looks like a old waffle House which it pretty cool but the food is amazing

Eggs were perfect, grits were dry and New York Strip was so chewy I couldn't eat it. Very disappointing because I've eaten there before and it was great. Server was great!

Food prices went up like everywhere. Best thing os the staff. Few of them have been there fir a long time so its great seeing them when we go there. The cook is the bomb!!!!!!

Called in a to ho order and the order was not as ordered. Cook read the order and refused to make it as ordered. Do go here and think you can get your food cooked to your needs or tastes.

Everything you expect from an old-school diner. Massive portions of great food, and offerings are kind of unique for this area. Only issue, and it's also a compliment, it's popularity has outgrown its location. Tough ingress egress and parking.

Great breakfast at a great price. Recently renovated 1.1.18. New booths, granite counter and modern chairs. Nicely done. Prices remain excellent. New owners toying with addition of foodie items. Try the burger on french toast.

Food was OK, not great, but OK. My comparison is always biscuits, sausage gravy and home fried potatoes. I was told that the biscuits were homemade. If they were, they were very overworked and dense. The sausage gravy was white pepper gravy with bits of sausage thrown in, not a true southern sausage gravy. I loved the size of the home fries (big chunks), but there was no seasoning or chrispy bits. It was more like steamed potatoes. My husband had the stuffed French toast, scrambled eggs and bacon. The French Toast may or may not have been dredged. It was dry, not the custerd texture you expect. The blueberrie stuffing was good and they gave a very generous amount of whipped cream. Scrambled eggs still had uncooked egg whites ( I would haveanve sent back but he was OK eating them). Bacon was good, nice thick pieces. Overall, food was OK, nothing special, and failed in a few places. I must say that the entire serving staff was fast and friendly. This is a major plus in my books. Atmosphere was, again, OK. Nothing bad but nothing to stand out. Overall, I walked out saying "glad we tried, won't be back". I can tell you that the were very busy for a Saturday mid-morning and had quite a few regulars. Maybe I am too picky.

The Ultimate Country Fried Steak Breakfast!!! Truly was cooked to a golden brown perfect, topped with a healthy serving of gravy, 2 eggs cook any way you like, if your feeling brave I had onions and jalapeños added to my hash browns, and I choose a side of toast. Great breakfast diner, speedy service, and amazing taste!!!

There was a line of customers waiting for the diner to open which is always a good sign for any restaurant. A large group of men stated they were meeting there for breakfast. The service and delivery was quick and our food was served within a few minutes after the server took our order. Food was served fresh and cooked to order. Coffee was freshly brewed and servers brought drink refills before they were requested. Food portions are good-sized so there is no way a customer will leave the New York Diner feeling hungry.

Could not get order right egge sent back twice still raw, bacon ordered well done. I can't understand why they can't make breakfest that I have ordered . Very disappointed, look for new diner that cares.

Its small and the parking lot is a bit of a pain but lets be honest. Thats nothing really compared to some pretty good diner food. Does take a bit but es fine to me.

I've been coming here since I was a high schooler, however I just recently came and revisited. I do like that there have been some more appealing restaurant appliques added. Big new TV since my last visit in person. New booth seats. New decor and such. It was originally a waffle house. So it has big waffle house vibes still in regards to the floor plan. Not really something management can help however. On busy weekend mornings expect a wait due to this. Service is fast. The waitresses are just as fast. The longest I've ever waited to be seated was 30 minutes. To go is generally just as good as ordering in. My dad often gets meals to go and brings them home when we have a lot of family over. Overall just a really good local eatery.

This old fashioned diner is nestled in Valrico, FL, near Dover and conveniently right off of State Road 60. Our server was fantastic and gave us multiple suggestions. We opted to shared one of the breakfast skillets which was amazing and just enough food to share between two people. The New York Diner is a great dining option that supports a local business.

Quaint mom and pop New York style diner. Seems to be a favorite of the locals. Good food and very friendly service. My weekend breakfast go-to spot. Highly recommended if diner vibes are your thing.

Not what it used to be. Dirty silverware, smaller portions, and if you point out a mistake on your order, they blame the mistake on the cook. I really don't care who is to blame, make it right, or offer a discount. People often come in with family or friends and do not want to make it an issue in front of family. But if it's clearly not right... smile and offer to fix it or offer a discount, better than tossing it in the garbage, I would not point it out to the waitress if it was not an issue to be addressed. Overall, it's just not as good as before. I can go elsewhere for the same food. There are no excuses for dirty silverware. it makes me wonder about the plates, coffee cups, bowls, and other areas that I don't see.

Service very good. Cuban toast was terrible - bad taste - like "old" grease used. Same for hash browns. Need to change the grease!!! Everything else ok (coffee, eggs, bacon etc).

I have been in this numerous times over the years. I have seen ownership changes, and food and service have not changed. They are very friendly, the food is delicious. You should check it out.

My brother calls it food with a show. Your waitresses are so friendly and funny. The price is right, and the food is delish and served hot. Best stop to start your morning.

I ordered the Reuben Sandwich. For $13, I could’ve stacked at least a half lb or corned beef on a homemade sandwich. It just wasn’t worth it…fair price would’ve been maybe $7.99. I get that it’s a diner but it just felt dirty eating in there…not that it was dirty, the atmosphere was just off for me.

This is the best breakfast restaurant in Brandon/Valrico area. The home fries are delicious. The eggs cooked to order. Friendly waitresses, always smiling, and quick to refill your coffee mug. And so inexpensive too. $8 for the Anytime Breakfast which includes beverage of your choice.

There is NOTHING NEW YORK about this place. Not the people, not the decor, and most certainly not the food. It is drastically downward spiraled. The food was mediocre at best. Severely overpriced for what you get. I have never seen paler pancakes in my life. Check your food to make sure you get what you pay for. BLT says 8 sliced but you barely get 4.

There was no soap in the men’s washroom the head line cook went in and used it after me. He did not wash his hands. 🤮 The coffee was good the waitress was fun my wife and I were looking forward to eating dinner classics. We had to leave before we got the food.

This place rules. We asked them to make something that wasn’t exactly on their menu but a variation of something they make and they accommodated for exactly what we wanted and succeeded with flying colors! We didn’t have the opportunity to sit down and eat on this trip but we definitely look forward to stopping in and eating next time. This is definitely a classic diner using quality ingredients and a staff that cares about what they’re feeding people. It was busy when we stopped to pick things up and MULTIPLE members of the staff made sure we were being taken care of. The restaurant was noticeably clean and well maintained. This is gem of a spot in the Brandon area.
