delicious pasta the best in denville

Wanted to dine in but didn't because when we got there the guy in the front asked what we were doing there versus how many people needed to be seated. I still order the food The food was great the spicy pasta sauce was very good and we even brought some fresh pasta to take home. I spent $150 on food for three people but we also brought items to take back home with us

The Pasta Shop is always a good idea! Menu not overwhelming, food always on point. Consistency w/dishes, amazing staff and little details that make the experience even sweeter. (I.e- cute merch, welcome chunk of cheese, to-go orders brought to a holding space to not crowd your table) Not easy to get into, but always worth it. Even when the front of the house needs to deliver the news that they are booked for the night, they are never pretentious about it and willing to take you as a walk-in if cancellation. I’ve been there quite a few times and would go back any day of the week that I could get in :) also run a tight take-out for those who can’t get a table. Keep shining Pasta 🍝 shop!

Still trying to figure out what all the hype is about. I got the chicken parm and it definitely wasn’t the best one ive ever had. I would rate the main courses 5/10 however the mozzarella sticks and staff/environment was great.

We showed up at 4pm to beat the dinner rush. Once we showed up, we were immediately turned away rudely, without any attempt to try and figure out a way to keep our business or barely any explanation. Regardless of the food, experience was such a turn off I never want to come back. I also came from Los Angeles to visit my parents, and this was where I wanted to go to dinner. Never again.

Blown away by The Pasta Shop. OMG- the food was incredible. The service was maybe even better than the food! We had the Corn Ravioli, Pappardelle Bolognese and had the Summer Bruchetta Toast as an app.. The staff was knowledgable. They were the friendliest staff that I've ever seen in a restaurant. They truly made us feel like they valued us being there. If there was a way to give 10 starts on here, I would do it. You are missing out if you don't find your way here!

This is the best restaurant in New Jersey and we are fortunate to live so close. Tommy and all the staff are so amazing and so is the food. I dream about the sweet corn ravioli when they are not on the menu. There are so many good dishes here. And if Danny's carrot cake is on the menu don't hesitate to get it. You always feel welcome when you go to The Pasta Shop. We love it there. Thank you for always amazing us with all your creations. ❤️

The food is to die for and the staff is very friendly and efficient. Tables do fill up extremely quickly however, so be prepared to come early or have over an hour wait. They have seasonal specials that are also great and a must try.

Worthy of a Michelin ⭐ Worth the wait. I can't say that this is a consistent thing, but in my experience they overestimate the time. I was told 2 to 2.5 hours but they ended up calling me at around 1:50. It's just something to keep in mind because you don't want to put your name on the list and leave the area completely. I went to the brewery across the street so it was easy to shoot over. The pasta is just amazing, as were the apps.

Absolutely incredible pasta! The corn ravioli is to die for. And all of the appetizers were out-of-this-world delicious, too. Plus the staff are so friendly and accommodating. I cannot wait to come back! Make sure to put your name down for a table early, and if needed, kill some waiting time at the brewery across the street.

I was wow'd by the service at this restaurant. The food was spectacular and so was the staff. The space is small so there's a wait time and they do not accept reservations. First come, first serve. I look forward to going back!

Drove 40 min here with my family of four. Unfortunately since we arrived around 8:30 pm we were told we could not be seated. There were seats available but my assumption is that because they close at 9 pm, it might have been inconvenient timing for our party size. Not 100% sure, but I would be mindful of this if arriving late. Anyway, we were able to order takeout and the food made up for it immensely. We ordered the mozzarella sticks, chicken parm and vodka rigatoni and they were all so delicious! Probably the best mozzarella sticks I’ve ever had. The food was super fresh and tasty. We will def be back to enjoy it again.

If you are a pasta fan this restaurant is a must! The pasta deserves six stars out of five.

I would love to give the Pasta Shop many more than 5 STARS! I loved that the menu wasn’t vast because that allowed for perfection of each offering. We had 6 items off the menu, all of which were stellar! The stars aligned and we were lucky enough to happen upon a last minute opening. Big thank you to all the staff -Dave, Josh, Roy and Suleen, who offered us warm, fun, friendly and professional service. Kudos to you all! I can’t wait to go back!!!

Coming from a family of Sicilians, home cooking has always been my family’s way of life. Whenever we find ourselves out to eat, we’re constantly disappointed or just moderately impressed. Our experience at the pasta shop was nothing but amazing, from the moment we walked in the door being greeted by the super friendly staff, to the excellent homemade food, and even the coffee, this restaurant will definitely be a go-to in the future when we am in the area. I can confidently say that this restaurant served some of the best pasta that my family and I have ever received from a restaurant. The pappardelle bolognese and the golden bucatini were two of the best pasta dishes we have ever enjoyed from a restaurant. But the greatness does not stop there, the cacio e pepe arancini balls were nothing but amazing, along with the mozzarella sticks. Having traveled all around the world trying different restaurants and dishes we can pretty confidently say that this would be in the conversation for some of the best Italian food we have ever gotten. If you are in the area this place should be a no-brainer and you should not hesitate to make a stop by.

Let start by saying my family used to LOVE the Pasta Shop- I said used to and here are the reasons why: -Imposible to get a table specially dinner time, who wants to have family dinner at 4 pm? -We live out of town, If you’re in luck and able to get your name put on the waiting list, they’ll tell you 40 minutes or 60 minutes which sounds better then (1 hour) however you’ll always wait more then that as some others have reservations online (which we can’t never get on as is always full and if tried to call they don't accept reservations over the phone ) is 5 pm and they said we're fully committed for the night, after driving 30 minutes to personally put our name on the list. -Today yes, my husband and I looked at the time was 3:42 pm I suggested to stopped as it was early, maybe we were in luck, I walked in while my husband parked the car in front of the restaurant. I asked the host if they’ve a table for 3, he said yes, a group of 4 came right behind me, ask another host for a table for 4, they proceed to seat at the only table available for 4 right in front of me, then I asked where are you seating us? as I see my husband walked in right behind them and then like magic they swap hostess and said, well mam’ we now have to put you on a waiting list, excuse me ? Yes I'm sorry but because you walked in by yourself, I pointed out my husband and my son where behind them, he said well I'm sorry but the wait time now is 45-60 min, all the tables where occupied. I expressed my frustration, the entire process was very bizarre, kind of unfair as we literally walked in right before those other people, if they at least would've said, where is the other 2? (They were right behind the party of 4) Is no way we’ll wait 1 hour to seat down, We walked out and left, kind of sad to say, due to the poor management in regards of their seating process, no matter how good the food is, we will not be returning there ever again!

Stopped on our way home from NYC. What a treat! Slightly off I-80 - it's an easy, quick hop off hop back on the interstate spot. All 3 pasta dishes were fabulous. Rigatoni w/ vodka sauce, Linguine w/clams, Angel hair w/ tomato & basil. We're not sure which was the best for they all were piping hot, flavorful and really delicious. It was a Saturday night and the place was jammed so we ate at a picnic table outside-we had our food in 20 minutes and were amazed that it was only a 40 minute stop. Cute little town. We're stopping back here on our next road trip. It's a keeper.

The pasta shop is our favorite! Amazing dinner and experience every time. Everyone is so welcoming especially Roy! The wait for a seat is worth it!

This place can’t be beat. We base our dinner plans on their specials (posted on their Instagram) and end up here every few weeks. Everything on their menu is amazing, you cannot go wrong. I can honestly say that after eating everything on there. Go early to get your name on their list, there are no reservations and it can take an hour or two to get a table. We usually hang out at the brewery next door (which is also great), so it is an easy wait. Grab some take out beers as Pasta Shop is BYOB. Special call out to the guy (I believe he is a manager) who started to recognize us the second time we went. We recently went about 8 months without going due to dealing with a house move, and as soon as we walked into the door he welcomed us back. I wish I had a fraction of that memory, really makes us feel at home. Seriously, do not sleep on this place. This is our favorite restaurant in the area. When we moved we specifically checked that we were within 10 minutes.

Love the pasta and garlic bread here..and Mozzarella sticks are to die for! Bruschetta is average.

Finally after 2 failed attempts we were able to get a table. This place does not take reservations and it's always a half hour to one and half hour wait to get a table in the evenings and weekends. But the food is well worth the difficulty to get inside. Not only does it taste amazing it's also very sensibly priced. Until today I had no idea mozzarella sticks could be made the way they make it. We had the sweet corn ravioli and pappardelle bolognese. Everything was cooked to perfection. Every bite tells you that these have been made with great attention to detail.

The food is amazing and the service is the best! The food tastes very fresh and has amazing flavor. They make you feel very welcomed there. Me and my wife go there all the time and they remember us and talk to us everytime we go. Always have an amazing time. Highly recommend this amazing restaurant for a great date or just to have a chill night!

What a wonderful place even though it's hard to get a table here it's definitely worth the wait. The service and the food are outstanding!

Most delicious pasta in NJ! Pretty challenging to get seat-in but try the take out. We just did a take out and used the public bench/seating available right outside the restaurant. Bought home some pasta sauce and pasta as well! Totally worth it! Would love to come again!

My wife and I came here for our first time this past Friday, to celebrate our Anniversary. We both agreed that the service was the absolute best we've had in a very long time, from a restaurant. Everyone was very friendly, especially Tommy. Our server, which I believe his name was Aiden, was incredible. Very helpful with recommendations and attentive. There was a wait, but it was expected for a Friday night, and it was much quicker than our original quoted time. The Pasta Shop is must, and the mozzarella sticks will be the best you'll ever have. We look forward to visiting again.

food has always been delicious, fresh and did I say delicious?! also, last night I had a cannoli for the first time from this restaurant. Probably the best cannoli I have ever had! Edited review: I just went tonight for the first time to actually eat in the restaurant. The food is excellent for carry -out, but even so much better when you dine in! I did take cannolis to go (I would consider myself a cannoli expert), these are the best cannolis around by far. Just perfect (I have absolutely no relation to this place). And also, every single worker is so f ing nice here! It’s like the twilight zone going here. Every worker had a smile on their face and was just so pleasant.

Awesome homemade pasta with a brewery right next door

Food is beyond amazing. Every single person who works there is friendly and welcoming. I cannot recommend this place enough!

The entire staff was extraordinarily friendly from when we got on the waitlist to when we were leaving with leftovers. We got in after about 20 minutes (quoted 20-40) and immediately were greeted by our amazing server whose name we did not catch. She was excellent in answering our questions and constantly checked on us in an unobtrusive way. She went over the specials with us and we tried the crab arrancini special (out of this world) and ordered chicken parm and rigatoni a la vodka for entrees. We all were a bit put off when the server said the owner refuses to put vodka sauce on chicken parmigiana, but would have no problem charging for it and putting it on the side. Hearing that definitely left a sour note, but everything was alright aside from the rigatoni being a bit too firm of an al dente.

Went there for the first time last night. Food and service was wonderful but turn down the music!!! Great place but the loud music makes conversing nearly impossible. Does anyone think that it adds anything to this great restaurant?

Such an attentive and efficient group of folks work here. Appetizers and pasta were delicious, including gluten free bucatini and Argentinian shrimp black linguine (fresh)! Extra points for the playlist.

This place was recommended to us by a friend because their homemade pasta is so delicious, and because they ALSO have homemade gluten free pasta! If you're a Celiac like me or gluten intolerant, you probably have a very limited choice of what you can find on the menu in an Italian restaurant, and if a gf choice is available it's not like the real thing. Not true here! Their gf pasta is to die for! I love the GF Penne Vodka, my daughter always orders the regular Penne Vodka, my son gets the Spaghetti Carbonara and husband always orders the Spaghetti that comes with their very large meatballs cooked in their wood fired oven. We were all very spoiled by my mother-in-law's pasta meals on a Sunday afternoon with sauce made from the tomatoes my father-in-law raised in his garden so we're a very picky crowd and never order a pasta dinner from a restaurant, but The Pasta Shop has definitely changed that. I highly recommend it! They also offer their wonderful pasta choices and various sauces packed up as retail purchases as well if you want to bring something home to make later. You won't be disappointed eating here. The restaurant is really small so we always order takeout.

The food here is on another level, but this review is advice for anyone ordering delivery. The estimates shown are not accurate, ever. If it says 1 hour at checkout, it will be 90 minutes when they confirm, and show up 2 hours after you order. Every time. It’s worth the wait, but just get used to ordering 2 hours ahead. In the meantime, I would really appreciate if the restaurant agreed to be listed on doordash. They already use doordash to fulfill delivery, but since I can’t place the order directly, I can’t pay extra for express delivery, so my fresh pasta has been sitting in a driver’s car for 40 minutes and through 3 deliveries before they get to me.

In the heart of Denville is an amazing little gem that people flock from all over New Jersey to frequent! So I knew I had to make an appearance, especially if all the locals rave about it. Now, it is BYOB but they do offer a selection of wine from their local vineyard. I started out with their homemade bread and woodfired meatballs. It was incredible. I also had that accompanied with a Caesar salad no anchovies . The noodles with butter and garlic are top notch, I know it sounds simple, but they are literally the most delicious thing ever! The mozzarella sticks are definitely to die for and the salmon is perfect.

I've heard good things. Visited several times recently but couldn't actually try the food because of the absurd "no reservation" policy and no available seating for the rest of the day. I do not have the time or interest in making any more attempts to go.

An Italian eatery featuring homemade pasta dishes and Mozzarella. Somewhat small inside makes for a bit of a wait in dinner hours. The wait is worth the meal. Had Arancini (rice balls) 6 small ones to an order but delightful taste. Mozzarella sticks ever so scrumptious. Spaghetti carbonara yummy. All in. This is a recommended place to eat BYOB and enjoy homemade pasta. Yummy!!!

The best and freshest pasta. We've only been able to order for pick up and delivery and it still tastes amazing. Our family loves the carbonera, we've tried a lot and there hasn't been one thing we haven't loved.

It's Arguably the best gluten-free pasta we've ever had!

What a treasure in the middle of Denville, NJ. I had the pork shoulder, it was so tender and delicious, such a treat. My husband had linguine with a red clam sauce and he was thrilled. The service was perfect. Our waiter was Aiden. Everything from the bread to surprise treat of aged Parmigiana cheese to really good cappuccino. But expect to wait cause it’s a small place. Oh yes, they do take out.

AMAZING EVERYTHING! From walking in to walking out of the pasta shop it was overall 10/10. The service was amazing and i’ve never felt more comfortable! I would recommend this place in a heartbeat! The service was absolutely amazing! I have never had a better experience! First time here and I will definitely be coming back! They even labeled everything that we took home! I’ve never had a bad experience here and the food does not fail. The staff is friendly and will go beyond out of their way for you. Tonight I was greeted with smiles by not one but three people and my lifelong friendly neighbor, Roy, who was getting an order out to a table, across the restaurant checked in to see how I was doing. The cashier and other gentleman who helped me out were amazing and refused my payment when they offered dessert. I’ll continue to come back and encourage you to do the same!

Incredibly warm atmosphere! Greeted immediately and you get to see directly into the kitchen. Wonderful front of house staff. It’s a modern style with classic Italian done right. You can see them make all of the fresh pasta in store. It offers a smaller space with probably room for 20 people. I can see it being difficult to sit a large table. I came at 3:15 on 5/22 for a late lunch and was immediately sat. Or just great timing… I was offered a free taster of their Parmesan aged 24 months wheel. They show you a display of all of their homemade pastas and shapes. They offer wine by the half and full bottle. Half bottle is perfect for two people to split for lunch. Aranchini appetizer special is to die for! It was $10. It’s comes with six mini golf size balls in a cacio de Pepe cheese sauce. They offer you a “to go tag” that allowed you to pick up wrapped food at the end of your meal. It’s a nice touch and what a great way to save table space too! My water never once fell below half way with the quick staff. I then got an order of the spaghetti carbonara. Great texture of the homemade pasta and absorbed the sauce perfect. It was a great size portion and I took a bit home with me. Also offered bread for the pasta dish. It was $23 so a fair price. It had a fresh egg yolk on top to break, which enhanced its flavor. Lots of chives and fresh bacon. I wish they offered a half lunch size but that could be my only suggestion. Overall I was highly pleased, and it surpassed the recommendation that was provided to me! I will be returning. Special shout out to my waitress Sullin Z who made it a great experience!

This is for experience not for food.To be fair I heard the food was good.I have tried at least 6 times to get in.Its always something.Last night I went with my wife at 530pm and was told they weren't taking any more names for the night.I just had it.How about doing reservations,?Instead I have to sit and wait an hour or be told come back during the week.Well guess what.We went down the street to the place that Dave Portnoy just rated 8.5.They were very busy but went out of the way to make sure we got seated.Pizza and service were great.Im sure you guys will be fine without me but how many other people are getting turned off and look for somewhere else.

Genuinely one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Came in for pasta, and left with that, the mozzarella sticks, drinks, and coffee. Really cool restaurant, very friendly servers, and never felt like I was waiting for service. You gotta try it.

So glad I live about 7 mins away because I was left convinced that I have to make several more trips to try everything on the menu now. Everything was incredible. To start, the staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. One of the best encounters I've had in years. They show great team work from the wait staff to the kitchen. The owners have a lot to be proud of. The food was better than I could've imagined. Me and my daughter came after checking out some local eateries on google. The reviews were mostly great but there were some reviews that mentioned long wait times. We planned to get there shortly after they opened and were seated right away. We were lucky in that sense because shortly after we sat down, the lines were piling up outside. We figured we would get their top items just in case this was a 1 stop experience and be done. I was wrong. I'm convinced we HAVE to go back. We got the top items....the mozzarella sticks, meatballs, garlic bread (the best I've had in my life btw) and for entrees, the rigatoni alla vodka and pappardelle bolognese. This food was out of this world. I'm convinced I have to go back and try the other fan faves like the carbonara, arancini, and cacio e pepe. The love and passion they put in this establishment shows and they deserve all the success from this gem in Morris County.

The cannoli blows any Brooklyn cannoli I’ve ever had out of the water. That alone made it worth the trip. The table next to us, apparently had left a one star review at some point. Once I heard that I came on here to leave a five star to counter them. They sucked, internet gives everyone a platform but not everyone needs a platform. Service was great. Went there on a Saturday night and they were quick, kind and the food was excellent.

DISAPPOINTED!!! Ok we heard amazing things about this place, so my friends and I got there at 3:45pm to put our names down. They told us us was a 4 hours wait… ok fine…. Then Josh called us 3 hours later and time us he had a bunch a cancellation and there are tables ready. When we got there, Josh told us that we would have to wait another hour, he called us by mistake…. WHO DOES THAT? I am so appalled by this, makes me not want to eat there EVER and try this. That was just awful. DONT EAT THERE… you shouldn’t have called us Josh… horrible customer service… DONT GO THERE.

Food is ok . Everytime we try to eat here always nothing is available . We travel 45 minutes . I think they should be flexible . We called and ask if they take reservations they said no . We got there 6pm they said they don't take anymore customers. If you don't take reservations and you closed 9pm . You mean you let those last table eat for 3 hours ? Anyway just a thought.

Amazing amazing food. The arancini balls were out of this world!! The linguini pasta and house garlic bread made the decision to dine in absolutely worth it. And not to forget, the staff here is very friendly and courteous. Will be back again soon. And yes Highly recommend coming here if you are looking for a fantastic dining experience.

Hosted a private event for my husband’s Birthday & it was enjoyed by all! The food, the service, the staff. Everyone was so accommodating from start to finish with the planning process. My guests raved about how delicious the food was and just how overall a nice time it was having the whole restaurant to ourselves. I highly recommend throwing an event there!

Don’t waste you’re time going to this place if you don’t live in Denville. Second attempt driving 35 minutes to get on wait list and sold out at 3:30pm. The pasta shop should have a better system, or clearly state if your not within a five minute drive don’t bother coming as everyone gets on list at 12pm. Disappointed and won’t be back to try again.

Amazing first experience for my fiance and I. Such a cool looking place on the inside and the food was amazing. Aiden was one of the best servers we’ve had in a while, very attentative and friendly making sure we had the best experience possible. Definitely looking forward to coming back here very soon!

The best Italian in NJ !! Best food !!! Great atmosphere .. only downside is very small place and hard to find a table . Had to go there @4.30 pm for dinner reservation to get a table !!! The food was fast served and it’s a BYOB (they had some wine options there as well) . People are very friendly and everything they recommended was perfect !!! Our waiter Mr.Aidan was one of the best waiter I have ever had in any restaurant . Their Burrata Mozzarella and garlic bread is a must try !

This place is good however they seriously need to get a bigger place or fix their reservation policy. I have gone there TWICE and have told they aren’t serving anymore people. How do you close at 9 but turn people away at 7:30?? Absolutely no sense. If you get that much buisness, start taking reservations or get a bigger venue. A shame bc their food is very good the one time I was able to actually get in

The best pasta shop in Denville. My wife and I always get takeout from here on the weekends and with a bottle of wine it’s a great night.

We stopped in tonight for takeout and we were not disappointed. Having read reviews and heard from friends how busy it can be, we opted to make sure we could get the food we were so excited about. We got the bruschetta, meatballs, smoked ricotta cavetelli and spaghetti carbonara. Everything was delicious and exceeded our expectations. The one thing I'll say is we never got a text letting us know our order was ready but maybe I misunderstood that that was supposed to happen. Both past dishes were flavorful and delicious. The bruschetta was incredible...so much truffle flavor. The meatballs were moist and flavorful. The staff were pleasant, friendly, and efficient. We will 100% be back.

I can’t remember the last time I went out to eat and everything was amazing! We waited an hour and after the experience we had I would wait three. Our waiter was fantastic. Please don’t change a thing!!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in NJ. The mozzarella sticks are to die for and the only ones that I ever eat. The string pull is incredible. All the pastas are homemade. The linguine with clams comes with a pound of clams! You really can’t go wrong with any of the pasta dishes. The pork shoulder is super tender and another favorite of mine. The coconut tiramisu may be the best gluten free dessert of all time. Tommy, Roy and the entire staff are the best in NJ. So attentive and go above and beyond every time.

Came at 4:45 to get on waitlist only to be told they aren’t taking anymore names. When asked how to avoid this next time we were told to call early in day to see if wait list was open still. Then the hostess says “I suggest if you want something from here get take out”. Maybe it’s time to expand your building? Maybe take reservations on the phone. It’s really disappointing. If I need to come there at 2 pm to get on your waitlist then have to sit around and wait for hours.. not worth it for me. Amd your front desk girl needs an Attitude check.

Tommy the owner and the staff make everyone feel like they are part of the family. The food is excellent the service magnificent and it’s the best Italian Restaurant in Denville in Morris County and probably NJ. I have always left there completely satisfied. I recommend it.

The menu changes seasonally and there are daily specials, so there's always something new to try on top of the reliable favorites. You can't beat their fresh pasta and the sauces are amazing. When not dining in or grabbing takeout, we will often just get a pound of pasta and some sauce to cook at home. It can't be beat for a nice pasta meal at home. Second is the staff- everyone is so welcoming, friendly, and helpful- from owners to servers to seaters and more. They make you feel like family and are so attentive. You can tell their truly enjoy what they're doing. Lastly, are their accommodations for special diets. There are always vegetarian options on the menu, which I appreciate greatly. They also offer delicious gluten free pasta, which my sister with celiac disease has raved about. They take cross-contamination very seriously and I know she felt safe eating there. There are so many reasons to love The Pasta Shop. I highly recommend a visit!

I flew over from Ireland and this was one of the must stop places. I have NEVER EVER tasted Italian food as good as this. If this was my last meal on earth, I’d die a very happy man. And the staff are amazing, so friendly & welcoming. I’m already counting down the days to come back here again.

Excellent, is an understatement! I drove almost an hour just to see if it was worth all of the social media hype. It totally was! I would drive another extra hour just to have their food. Everything we ordered was amazing. A must, is any of the pastas and the cannolis!

Very disappointed! We never got to try the food. After reviewing and reading everything about the restaurant, we decided we wanted to try the food. Only it states no reservations and first come first serve.We arrived on Saturday at 6:45 pm from Pennsylvania waiting to taste the food on our date night. Instead we were turned away because they couldn't take anymore customers because they were overrun by phone orders. Mind you, it says they close at 9 pm. We were extremely disappointed! Thank you Tom for your response. There was an open table and no one was waiting to be seated. We were specifically told by the gentleman there that he couldn't seat us because he had too many phone orders. Your policy doesn't state individuals can't be seated if table is open because of phone orders. Still disappointed!

Every time we go 10/10 food and dining experience. I would give this place a Michelin star or 2…

Let me preface by saying that I have been wanting to dine here for the past couple of years, but only got the chance to recently for my birthday. My favorite pasta is squid ink pasta, having first tried it at an exquisite Italian restaurant in New York City about 6 years ago. Since then, I have been on the hunt, but luck has not been on my side. When I saw it on the menu at The Pasta Shop, I immediately informed my boyfriend that this was the restaurant we would be dining at for my birthday. I knew if it's popularity before going, having heard wonderful reviews from friends. Unfortunately, we arrived at 2pm only to be told that there was a 2.5-3 hour wait for a table. Having traveled over an hour to get there, we opted for take out to eat in the car. I excitedly ordered my squid ink pasta, their mozzarella sticks and my boyfriend chose the chicken Parmesan. We gave our number to the woman at the register taking our order and was told we would be called in about twenty minutes when it was ready. We visited Sergio's around the corner for some Italian bread to take home, came back and sat on the bench in front of The Pasta Shop to wait. At about 30 minutes and no phone call, I went inside to check on our order and it was sitting on a shelf waiting for pick up. I asked why we were not called and was not provided a clear answer. I let it go, the pure excitement of finally getting homemade squid ink pasta the only thing on my mind. We went back to the car with extra napkins and high hopes! I will be honest in saying that we were just a little disappointed. While everything was good, it did not produce the fireworks of applause I heard from reviews. 1. They are extraordinary skimpy with their sauce. Five giant mozzarella sticks warranted a tiny cup of marinara, my boyfriend pasta with his chicken Parm came only tossed in a heavy amount of butter, his chicken Parm itself had a smear of marinara and my squid ink pasta had many dry spots. 2. The flavor of everything was slightly bland. Being an amateur home-chef maybe I'm used to my own bold flavors when preparing any meal, but my boyfriend also agreed that there was a noticeable lack in flavor. Being an Italian restaurant with everything being homemade, we expected a certain richness as far as taste, which we were left yearning for. As for the squid ink pasta, I am used to a much more defined sea-food flavor, which sadly, was missing and a huge let down as this is my favorite. I understand the ease at which too much squid ink can become overwhelming, but too little can leave you with a basic pasta flavor with only a black coloring. 3. The spice factor in my spicy Maine lobster was also missing. I'm not expecting a nuclear level of heat, but I was expecting more of a pronounced heat. 4. The lobster was about 3 minutes overdone. While I applaud the use of claw meat, which I was excited to see, there were more than a few bites that were rubbery. 5. The mozzarella sticks on the other hand could have used 1-2 more minutes in the fryer as they drooped and sagged heavily once picked up. They also come smothered in Parmesan cheese which may have added to the sogginess. 6. The chicken in the chicken Parm was nicely cooked, but again lacked flavor. Overall, I am happy to have finally experienced The Pasta Shop for myself, and perhaps things may have been better had we dined in, but I'm unsure if we would make the long trip again. For a $56 bill, we were left wanting much more from such a highly recommended restaurant. I fully understand everyone's tastes are different, but if I'm craving authentic Italian cuisine, I have found other restaurants that provide that rich, hearty taste for a fraction of the price.

This place is truly like a hidden gem! I wish I could have found this earlier. Food was great and more importantly their service was just amazing! Victor and Roy both are just amazing folks. Definitely will Visit again!

From start to finish this place was excellent. The general manager is awesome, definitely added bonus. I don’t care if I have to wait two hours to sit it’s well worth it.

We got delivery so I can’t speak to the atmosphere, but the food was delicious. Burrata and beets was fantastic. Paperdelle bolognese was a winner. The spicy lobster with squid ink linguine was triumphant. There was a healthy amount of lobster and the level of heat was spot on. Pastas were exactly what you’re looking for when you hear “fresh pasta”

I was there an hour before closing so they could not seat me. Luckily I decided to take it to go. The ricotta cavatelli was recommended to me and I can't stop eating it. It's delicious. The staff was very helpful in making suggestions. If ever I'm back in the area I will most certainly be stopping in.

Went in today to get a gift card before they were open and the owner let me in to get the gift card. Ended up talking to him for a while and he is such a great guy and so invested in Denville and making great food. Can’t wait to go back and talk to Tommy again.

My first time and will NOT be my last. Amazing food & SERVICE. I highly recommend this restaurant.

First time here, but will be back. Everything is home made and incredible. Service was very friendly and just as excellent as the food. Truly found a gem.

Just writing this because of the VERY FEW bad reviews this place has got(and it makes me as somebody who lives in town/also works in a restaurant) The Pasta Shop is the best in Denville, easily. The only people writing negative reviews are either brain dead or are mad because they had to wait or couldn’t be seated. You couldn’t be seated because the place is amazing, and everyone else wants to be here. The staff are all incredible and attentive since its inception and I remember when this place was built after the hurricane; Best thing that happened to Denville. If you want to come here, come early otherwise you will have to wait just like all the other people who think it’s worth it for the best food anywhere nearby. Expect a wait, expect incredible food-simple. Don’t listen to the few fossils that somehow figured out how to type nonsense on a keyboard with their soggy paws. And good on the owner for standing up for this incredible business-it’s worth fighting for.

Unfortunately was not able to leave a great review of the food because of seating being full for the night 4 hours in advance. I highly suggest implementing an online reservation system so potential customers don’t have to drive 30 minutes just to be turned away. It’s basically already day of reservations at that point anyway… dissappinted
