Fantastic white table cloth restaurant in an intimate setting. Chef Daniel is the best. Crab cakes, endive salad, and baked Nebraska are perennial hits on the menu. You'll find interesting rotations in the entree section with fresh innovative seasonal ingredients. Currently the steak with lime pickle is fantastic.

Best udon noodles ever! It felt like I was back in Japan. In addition the chef will cater to all of your dietary requirements, it’s like having your own personal chef. What a great experience, we will be back!

The meal was lovely. The crab cake appetizer was perfect. Beets in the beet salad were so sweet. Our main courses were good. Our mains, chicken breast, and snapper were really good. The mushroom sauce was just right. The baked Nebraska was a miss, but did not detract from the overall experience; the absolute charm of every aspect of the setting and service fully made up for any other shortcomings. We would recommend this to anyone. Who doesn't love dinner in a restaurant carved into someone's home? FYI, the menu changes frequently(daily?) so one day may be better then the next.

What a wonderful find! Be SURE to get reservations -- the place is tiny, and the menu is constantly changing, but they pretty much promise (and deliver) that there will be something for every taste -- beef, bird, fish and vegetarian options there every time. The chef and his kitchen are at your (literal) elbow. The rest of the staff (all 3 of them) bends over backwards to to make sure you understand everything on the menu, and that you always have everything you need. I could not have been happier at the end of the night. Definitely going back the next time I am in the area!

My first time ever at the Tasting Room was a knock out experience. It was a Ramen night like no other - and I and my party love Ramen - we are now spoiled. Will be back soon with a further review but the food was superior, the setting beautiful and warm, and the service intimate and personal - we felt personally fed and celebrated by Daniel. Go as soon as you are able.

Literally in dudes basement - could smell the basement as soon as you walked in; the food was depressing just like the place itself - terrible parking -- super over priced and dude gets away with it bc it's Rhinebeck -- 10/10 won't be back again. Needs an update in the decor and possibly even a new venue for the restaurant itself.

A true hidden gem. From the food to the service you will forget the essence of the atmosphere and remember not to judge a book by it's cover.

This place is foodie HEAVEN! Everything you want from a great restaurant this place has. Nice and tucked away off a main road. You immediately feel like you're dining inside of somebody's home. Gorgeous inside and outside seating. Changing menu always exquisitely thought out. The chef is always bringing new recipes/ingredients from places he travels to. This place is the best way to have a fine dining experience!

This place reminds me of 1980’s “fine” dining. There is such a masquerade being pulled her and it fools a lot of people who can not see past the pretentiousness held by the host and chef. This place is in someone’s basement for god’s sake, and not in the cool underground way but in weird, “never left your mom’s basement vibe”. The food is so basic. Just garnish it with a balsamic reduction and all of a sudden it’s high end.

Celebrated my birthday here last night and it was definitely one of the best meals I’ve had! “An explosion of flavors” is a pretty accurate description for this place. I also loved that it was so intimate and unique. Great service as well!

Wonderful experience! You would never think there is a restaurant in the basement walk-out.l of someone's home. When you walk into the restaurant you transform into a small upscale bistro. The food is fantastic and so is the service beverage. I highly recommend. They made a birthday dinner memorable! Thank Chef!

Small and cozy spot off the main path. Small but eclectic menu and six tables in a basement setting. Entrance is around the back of the house at ground level. Food and service were both outstanding. Worth a try!

Fantastic!!!! Chef Daniel knocks it out of the park with spectacular tastings of local food and flavors. The waitress, who I regrettably forget her name is and absolute whipper snapper and makes the experience just that much more fun. My friend and I ate with my parents and couldn't have had more fun.

Food and service was wonderful! Atmosphere was a little weird, considering it's sort of in the basement of a house, but overall it was a great experience. It felt like having dinner at your friend's place, if your friend was a chef and had a professional kitchen in their basement.

Chef Daniel and his team created an unbelievable experience for my sister's bachelorette party! The food was incredible and service even better. Chef Daniel grew up in Asia and knows exactly how to infuse those flavors into his food. Could not recommend this spot more for those looking for a unique and delicious experience!

This review is long overdue. My Mom and I dined here about 2 years ago while visiting Rhinebeck. Not only was the food divine, this was the most uniquely wonderful dining experience of our lives. In addition to being a phenomenal chef, Chef Daniel is truly a great human being. Seeing that the weather wasn’t the best and getting a car service was quite difficult , he graciously gave us a lift back to our hotel. Who does that? Chef Daniel, that’s who. We will forever remember you my friend. God bless and be well!

We like to experiment and were looking for a quaint place with great food; and we got just that - for anyone who is tired of the usual restaurant tropes, the place is highly recommended. You know you're getting into something different the moment you look at the website - how many places serve whatever the chef feels like, with an ever changing menu, sometimes with ingredients the chef himself picked? Down a gravel driveway, the parking already tells you you're in for something different: with scant formal parking, we parked on grass by a tree. And the restaurant itself doesn't disappoint - with only 6 randomly placed tables and out-of-place design. But the attentive staff brings you into the world of the chef, whose true passion for food - above financial gain - comes across in every which way. The truffles were good and gentle, the crab cakes were a bit of a miss (the only thing we got that was just "okay"), and the risotto, for a change, was not drowning in tons of broth and allowed the dish's actual - and excellent - flavors to shine through, refreshing compared to other places. The shining stars were the deserts, which once again, were not overly sweetened or buttered, allowing their eater to appreciate their actual textures and taste; now there's a concept. If you're looking for a formal dining experience, this is not it - you can see there's something eccentric happening from the chef's writing, grammatical mistakes and all. And given the ever-changing menu, the food's makers cannot benefit from years of refining one specific recipe. But this willingness to experiment and be different is precisely what turned us on to this spot, and for anyone looking to celebrate gastronomy and passion for food and life in and of themselves, this place is not to be missed.

Absolutely Amazing and this is only the 2nd review I left in my life. I usually don't bother because yes there are good places but when your paying they should be and there all to much consistent to each other, however this place just out of this world almost literally, that's all I'm saying! Check it out for yourself...

My boyfriend and I wanted to try something different, and we figured after reading all of the Reviews that the Tasting Room would be a great choice. Unfortunately, it ended up being the wrong decision. The appetizers were good, cocktails were mediocre, but the biggest let down was my entrée. I usually love Wiener schnitzel, however, not in this case. It was atrociously bland (I’m not convinced any salt or pepper was used), and the meat was tough and dry as can be. If that wasn’t bad enough, the sides were just as disappointing. The red cabbage tasted like eating a mouthful of perfume, and the Boursin potatoes were only good as long as there was Boursin on the potato you were eating. I feel terrible my partner brought me to such a place that couldn’t even provide great food for what the bill came to. Next time I would much rather go to Gigi’s, The Beekman Arms, or Terrapin. Lesson learned.

How to describe this? A cross between the friendly presumption of familiarity that you might find at a roadhouse bar, with kitchen capabilities of an uncommonly high level... all assembled in the basement of a 1970s duplex. Oh, and the family dog will join your table with dessert. In other words, not to be missed!

This is "fancy food" in a global style, yet it is quite inexpensive for what it is. The Tasting Room restaurant is very informal in a beautiful woodsy setting. Though the restaurant is open now for eating inside and outdoors, I just got a recent celebration dinner to-go. The food was outstanding. It was prepared with real nuances and attention to detail which managed to come through even in take-out containers. Everything had its own distinct flavor profile, which I love in fine cooking. Some highlights were the spanakopita - surprisingly creamy inside, not too feta-heavy, with a crispy filo crust. Potato canapes- hollowed-out tiny potatoes which each looked like a tiny sculpture, filled with creme fraiche and caviar. Wow! Barramundi fish (which I had never had before), the entree, was grilled with a crispy skin and an incredible Indian-style masala sauce. That sauce was outstanding and totally unique- sort of a kinder, gentler Indian masala. You could taste the subtle spicing and it did not even overwhelm the excellent fish. Did I mention some of the best sauteed kale I've ever had? (which was not at all like chewing cud in a barnyard with grim determination - it was actually really good), and - homemade cardamom ginger ice cream that not only cooled the palate but tucked the brain to bed in a kind of infantile happiness. Obviously diets were well forgotten on this special occasion. Though it has been there for years, the Tasting Room may still be somewhat of a hidden gem, as it is a bit north of the main drag in Rhinebeck. You need to call ahead to reserve or plan your meal. But well worth doing!
