Great place to get a wide range of flavors. The sushi burritos are large and the Korean citron tea should definitely be tried. Bentos are good as well. The wait staff has always been patient and attentive.

This is an amazing sushi restaurant! We had the Creamy Toba roll and K-zoo roll and they were both delicious! I’m giving them best sushi in Kalamazoo status! The service was fast , the server knowledgeable and helpful in picking out rolls. Whether this is your first foray into sushi or you’re a seasoned fan you’ll enjoy it!

A good sushi place in Kalamazoo. Good vegetarian choices for rolls. Soy sauce is too salty. Their ambiance needs improvement, and the bathroom is extremely dark. They charge a fee for paying by credit card.

The best chicken fried rice I've ever had. The sushi my niece loves. Can't wait to try more. This is legit freshly cooked not reheated left overs it's definitely the best just wish they had later hours. I just plan ahead lbvs enjoy it y'all!

This is our new go to sushi place. Used to go to Kyoto on W Main but the new owner/management is awful so this is the place to go for excellent quality sushi in Kalamazoo!!!!!

Went here once for lunch and it was pretty good so couldn’t wait to go back for a dinner experience. However after hyping it up to my friends I took them all there for my birthday dinner and was extremely let down. The server never gave us silverware or napkins so we had to take them from another table, they took forever to bring us anything or take our order, which we understood at first cuz the tables were pretty full. Almost all of the restaurant had cleared out by the time we got our appetizers tho and they still took forever. The most disappointing thing was ordering the soft shell crab for $11 and getting just one of the tiniest crabs I’ve ever seen. I cannot believe they charged me full price for one 3” crab. My friends were served first while I waited another 20 mins for my dish. Had to keep asking for things and they failed to tell us certain things were out of stock and subbed them without informing us.

Went for a light lunch. Great atmosphere, not too busy. Food came out freaky fast. My roll were delicious. Definitely a low key spot I would visit again.

I ordered a very large to go order on a Sunday and boy did they mess everything up. The order was a half hour past the time it was supposed to be ready (it was a large order, could be expected). They sent us off without four of the sushi rolls we ordered and missing a sushi burrito. We of course had to go back to pick up the missing bag and then could not all eat together. When we did eat the food was all over the place in quality. Some dishes overcooked super small portions on things that extra protein was ordered with. This place is well reviewed. This was our first time going. We will not be back. Maybe it would have been better eating there but definitely do not put in a large to go order.

First time and we left so full and saying how delicious it was. Very good rolls and unique choices. Priced so you can order budget friendly or splurge a little.

The Ramen and Sushi were the best we’ve ever eaten! We lived near Toronto for 12 years, eaten at Momo Fuku, and yet this is the best ramen we’ve eaten to date. Great service and food. We highly recommend this place.

Have been in quite a few times now, and it is always amazing! The sushi is delicious and fresh. The miso soup, and gyoza are very good, and the workers are always very kind. This is my favorite place in town! Highly recommend!

Don’t go on a Sunday! The food tasted totally different today. The rice was bland and had very little seasoning. Hardly any soy sauce. No salt. Worst visit I’ve had here since they opened.

Hardly any parking (like MAYBE 4 spots) and their sushi is not worth the price you pay. I spent $40 on two specialty rolls and they were lacking flavor, and structure (they fell apart on the plate before I had a chance to pick one up to eat it). 2 stars because while I was craving sushi, it missed the mark on satisfying that craving. The restaurant was very clean though, and had pretty good ambiance.

This is probably the best Sushi place l’ve been to in K-zoo. Though the food was a little pricy, the salmon was fresh and tasty, and the Crunch Toby Roll was pretty good as well. It would be even better if they have less-sodium soy sauce!

Delicious food and reasonable prices! Nice atmosphere and quick service. The sushi was beautiful, and I found my new favorite fried rice in town— the shrimp fried rice; it has a lovely mix of egg, peppers, green onions. Will definitely be coming back!

Their sushi burritos are EXCELLENT and the service is good. Although the food is a little more on the expensive side you are definitely paying for good quality sushi. I also love the vibe of the place, they serve your drinks in fun mugs and the decor is cute. Would definitely recommend!

Dining in actually feels great and the place looks good. The special house rolls are pretty good too. I have two main concerns that I think if the restaurant is willing to improve these they'll be here for a long time. The first one is rice, which is something very fundamental to sushi and rolls. The rice in this restaurant is very tough and it needs to be more soft and fluffy. My second concern is the size of the individual cut of the rolls. The size of the individual rolls is way too big. It is not a pleasant experience to shove the whole roll into your mouth or bite half of it and have everything break apart. Other than that, this place can really be a great sushi place. Edit: The rice is definitely improving.

What a fun place to go. It's located in a weird strip mall section. It is a cozy little sushi place. The music caught me off guard and seemed loud but was actually good to conceal conversations. The rolls are great, and you can watch them be prepared right in front of you. The flavors are awesome and it has moved up to being our new favorite sushi place. In the most positive way, this is a hole in the wall and I recommend making the trip.

4.5 stars. Sushi is the best around. Haven't tried anything else there. I buy thier Berry Blossom Sushi consistently. Pricey, but phenomenal.

Got the bill and there was an added fee if you chose to use a credit card. No warning before ordering and didn't bring enough cash. Basically, equivalent to robbery since nothing you can do at that point but pay the fee. Avoid this and restaurants like it at all costs.

I have been quite disappointed while dining out when we do, the past few months in Kalamazoo and Portage. The past few experiences have been subpar and I was looking to try a newer place, so, I looked at the menu, which has a unique spin to it. Went there today with my daughter and the food was impeccable! The mushroom appetizers are phenomenal, we also had the Michigan roll and it was exceptional. The Miso soup and rice was outstanding and I ordered the burrito, which had an explosion of flavors! Keep up the outstanding job! I love this place and we will definitely be back. If it matters, this review is for downtown kalamazoo. I have been to the Drake location as well, however, I prefer the downtown menu and loved the atmosphere

We had a spectacular experience our first time at Toba! The restaurant was clean with the cutest ceramic mugs. The music is upbeat and uplifting. We ordered the Sushi Bento and the Sushi Combo, plus a side of the housemade kimchi. Everything was fresh and delicious, plus our server, Michaela, was so sweet and knowledgeable. The kimchi was especially delightful! We also tried the Chrysanthemum tea and the citron tea. I absolutely loved the powerful citron taste, and the Chrysanthemum was delicate and soothing. We were very impressed and will definitely be back!

We happened upon this spot in the Western Michigan University area while driving back home. This place was busy, and after our experience, we can see why. Great atmosphere with a good staff. Plus the food was very good. Also, they have a good selection of sushi on the menu...

If you like a different take on sushi themed restaurants try this one. Lots of menu choices. The firecracker roll was good, the Kazoo roll is HUGE! prefer my unagi warm but theirs was good. House made kimchi was surprisingly sweet and not very hot.

Was in town for my daughter’s birthday and she suggested Toba. I honestly think it is the best sushi that I have had. Food was fantastic, service perfect, and the restaurant was very clean and cute. I honestly will drive 45 minutes back when in the mood for sushi!

Ever heard of a Sushi Burrito? Me either, but it's amazing! -------------------------------------------- Since moving to Kalamazoo this has become my favorite sushi place to go to. Our neighbors offered me some of their extras one day, and I've been hooked ever since. Toba has a good variety of sushi available to order. However the thing I'm hooked on is their "Sushi Burritos". Yep, it's pretty much what you'd imagine. Or if you can imagine one HUGE sushi roll stuffed with all kind of good stuff. I order the Toba Sushi Burrito and it's amazing because it's full of seafood goodness. The staff is always friendly, and makes everything quickly, also being sure to yell "THANK YOU!" as you leave. I highly recommend you give them a try! (I am partial to the spicy mayo sauce) -------------------------------------- My only complaint: Finding the place. When my neighbors told me where Toba is I thought they were crazy because I thought I saw everything in that area. Even driving past it I couldn't find it until I did a double-take. My reaction was basically in this order: - Where is this place, I'm at the right address? - Oh wait there's little markings outside - Oh wait those are kanji or something - Oh wait that says toba in a different font? My point is that while the sign is interesting, I wish there was a smaller sign next to it that just had a plain (TOBA SUSHI). Otherwise the little toba kanji text blends in with everything else and hard to make out at first.

Went here because the reviews were so well, and they were not lying. We got the yum yum yum, volcanic, and spicy California, each one was delicious and savory. Absolutely phenomenal. I tried one of the teas and it did not disappoint, and only $3, much cheaper than other options. Rolls are big, my friend and I ordered three and were very satisfied with them. Food alone earns this place 5 stars. Atmosphere is excellent. The music matches the vibe, and is audible, but not too loud to discourage conversation, something very hard for restaurants to get so props to toba! Serving ware was unique and matched the atmosphere. They captured what a good sushi restaurant would be like. Highest praise for the staff, very kind, attentive, and always positive. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and her recommendations were great. Overall, a very good experience. Worth the price, I will definitely be visiting again. Also they have takeout so another plus!

Such a cute place, my friends and I come often and the service is always quick and the people are always super friendly. The miso soup is always hot and fresh and rolls are made when you order. Decorations are awesome and water comes in a cute mug. Food is always a 10/10.

Service, food, and food presentation was great! The atmosphere was boring and cold, not warm or fun. There was almost nothing on the white walls except a lot of dirty black marks knee high and down. The large baseboards were gross too and needed cleaning or new paint. Most the tables are right close to walls so it was impossible to not notice. It will turn some people away from wanting to get sushi from a place they felt was dirty. My husband doesn't want to go back because of it feeling dirty and my friends don't like the sound of it either. However we loved the food and didn't get sick or anything.

This is our go to sushi spot. They are hands down the best in Kalamazoo and won't disappoint. The sushi burrito wasn't for me personally, but for some is a huge hit. The presentation for every dish is immaculate and we will continue to be frequent customers. Also if the Berry Blossom roll scares you, trust me it's like eating desert for dinner and has absolutely no business being as good as it is.

This is one of the most uncomfortable places I’ve eaten at in a while. There was no heating so it was really cold, the chairs are metal and the tables are made of chipped tile. The service was almost nonexistent, never even asked for a drink order. The sushi is pretty decent but not worth the price of eating there. The most frustrating thing is they charge you extra to pay with a card. They charge extra you to pay with anything other than cash. I cannot comprehend how insulting that is to your patrons and is purely nothing but greed. There’s no reason to be charging your restaurant patrons a fee to pay.

Had to wait a little bit but oh was it so worth it. Price was great for the gorgeous plating, and outstanding flavor and taste. Never had raw fish sushi until today, loved it!

My boyfriend and I were looking for a sushi place since we are new to Kalamazoo. This place was recommended A LOT and it did not disappoint. The staff were nice, the atmosphere was calm. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was not busy at all. All of our food came almost instantly and it’s pretty on par with the price of sushi anywhere else. I forgot to take any pictures before the food was all gone because it was just too good.

I used to be a regular. Toba was definitely my favorite place to eat in Kalamazoo. However, the last few times I ate there, the food made me physically sick. I even got different rolls, thinking maybe it was a one off or unrelated to the food. I’m not pregnant and don’t have any medical issues that would lead to this sudden repeated reaction to food I once loved. I would love to come again, but I am so worried I will throw up!

Toba Sushi and Ramen Downtown is an authentic ramen restaurant with traditional and non-traditional sushi. We had Toba Ramen which was delicious and warming. They nailed the broth and egg. We also had sushi which was fantastic. Highly recommend.

We’ve been long time customers but today we received some sushi that was obviously not fresh. In addition my wife’s chirasi had chopped up fish instead of sashimi. We won’t be back

Everything tasted so incredibly fresh from the gyoza to the unreal cream cheese in the Berry Blossom roll! Top notch service and food for sure! Next time I'm back in town, this will definitely be a destination!

Staff is super friendly and helpful. I am not a fan of raw fish, but have always enjoyed veggie sushi. Toba has more than just the veggie sushi and quite a variety for a non seafood person, which is extremely hard to find. It's by far the best sushi I've ever had. I've been back a handful of times now.

Phenomenal food. Some of the best Korean or Japanese food I've ever had. Including sushi. I've had sushi at high end spots at the wharf in DC or benihana in Las Vegas and this place is incredible. Usually have 1 or 2 servers so pretty slow. The interior isn't very Korean or Japanese that's why the 4 for atmosphere but it is a nice little spot.
