We stopped by for a philly cheesesteak sandwich. Sadly the food was average and a bit overpriced for what you get, especially in comparison with all the other restaurants that we tried in Anchorage. Also the onion rings were overcooked and a tiny bit burned. Maybe we were just unlucky and we should have tried their famous burgers instead.

I had the great fortune of being able to go to Alaska for a friends wedding. During my time in Alaska I had a lot of great food but, at the end of the day there is something about a great burger that really satisfies! Tommy's Burger Shop is exactly that - a darn good burger! Tommy's is a small and very eclectic burger joint, the staff is very attentive even though they are (from what I could tell) really busy all the time. My Dad and I were simply in the mood for some regular cheese burgers but, after looking over the menu we we're both astonished to see that they had a Cajun Style Fired Shrimp Po-Boy which we could not turn down. We both settled on 2 Burger Stop Burgers and a Shrimp-Po Boy for desert. Once we ordered, and since we had no place to be we went out to the small patio and sat down awaiting our meals. To say we were ready to eat is a huge understatement at this point. First and foremost the pictures you see online do not do this burger justice, it is a massive patty and the Lettuce, Tomato, Onions and Pickles were extremely fresh. The burger itself was seasoned to perfection and cooked perfectly. It can be hard to "rave" about a burger but- this one here deserves the hype. After scarfing down the burgers we turned our eyes to the Po-Boy... Knowing full well that there was no way in heck we would finish the whole thing, we split one of the half's down the middle and had at it. The flavor of the Po-Boy was spot on - there was a perfect crunch from the well prepared shrimp and and paired with the Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, and Fresh Lemon made it well worth every second (even though we barley could move from our seats). Needless to say, we kept the other half for later. So at the end of my sermon here, I just wanted you to know that Tommy's is a fantastic spot for a burger and I imagine if you had one of their specialties it would be amazing. So if you are in the area do yourself a solid, and stop on by! And, Tommy's keep doing your thing - it is just splendid!

Premium burgers, delicious fries, great service

This is a split review of both Tommy's locations in Anchorage. After having lived outside for a couple of decades, I returned recently, and my bucket list included visiting all of my favorite food joints. While excited to find Tommy's still at its old location in Spenard, I was disappointed in my burger. Considerably smaller and less juicy than I remember... otherwise, a decent meal. Several days later, I happen to spot the Tommy's located in the old Alaska Computer Brokers building. At 11 am... approximately an hour after opening, I reached to open the door, which was propped ajar. A young lady rushed over, taking the door from my hand and informing me that they were not open due to the previous nights crew not completing any prep work. Fair enough. But it did make me consider the possibility that new owners had purchased Tommy's, and apparently don't keep the same standards as the original owners. Check this place off my list.

The best burgers i have had in a long time. Had to wait a half hour, but it was worth it. I highly recommend it. 5 stars definitely!!!!!

I visited Tommy's Burger Stop as it was recommended as one of the best, if not the best burger place in Anchorage, AK. I opted to order the Sweet Charlotte burger with all of the fixings, but in trying to be a little healthier, I ordered it as a lettuce wrap burger, without the bun. I think I made a mistake ordering it as a lettuce wrap as I felt the lettuce was old and it didn't go well with the actual burger and add-ons. I ended up just eating the burger without the lettuce. Other than the lettuce issue, the burger was delicious and paired well with a side of onion rings! The staff were friendly and the restaurant itself didn't have much space or seating indoors, but had outdoor patio seating which worked well, as the weather was nice outside. I'd recommend Tommy's Burger Stop but would advise to stick to how a true and traditional burger should be, with the burger buns, and try to enjoy the true experience. (Unless the place is known for their lettuce wrap burgers) Thank you!

Stopped here while visiting Anchorage for work. Really great burger. Small place with very limited seating but food is really good. Will be returning next time I am in Anchorage.

Best hamburger and fries we've had in a year of traveling! It's small, ugly and the welcome is without fuss, almost a little stiff, but on the plate it's delicious!

Best burger and po boy in town so far!!! The portions are enough for a 2nd meal for later and the flavors are so good you crave a bite. Definitely one of my fav burger joints ever.

Ok... This is the best burger joint I have ever been to, hands down! Juciey, flavorfull, fresh veggies, huge basket of fries. I will go here EVERYTIME I am in Anchorage!

Great burgers but if it's busy prepared to be cramps. Usually not an issue because you're picking up most of the time but sometimes people are ordering and waiting and it gets very crowded

It’s been a year since I came here and it slaps just as hard as it did then. I would post a photo but I ate it so fast I got hiccups. Fries are seasoned, burgers are big, but they melt the cheese perfectly. Chocolate shake is made with hershey’s syrup, so do with that what you will.

Great chicken burger & cajun fries. It was my first time there. The staff were friendly. The bathroom was small but very clean. We'll return. We ate outside in the comfortable enclosed area.

I always thought that this place made the best burgers on earth. But now that there is another location on Dimond it's pretty much a toss up who makes the best because they're both phenomenal!

When I call ahead on take out and you say 12:45 and make me wait in your lobby for it to “come off the grill” Your prices on your website are different from on Google. And $25 for a double bacon cheeseburger and fries is just as bad as lucky wish bone. Good food but won’t get my repeat buisness.

Great burgers, fries were amazing, and the workers were super friendly! It was quite busy for lunch and I had to wait about 5-10 minutes for a table but overall great place if you’re craving a really good burger!

This is a great burger place. The RLE Hello was delicious. Very filling and tasty. My wife enjoyed the chicken po-boy. 100% recommend and will come and eat here again.

Their burgers are great, seasoned nicely. Their onion rings are beer battered, and you get them fresh and hot Everytime.

Kind of disappointed. Tried their Dimond location. We called in the order for pick up and they said 40 minutes, reasonable no worries. 20 minutes later they called saying it was ready for pick up already. Not expecting so soon since they quoted double that time. Regardless we drove straight over there. Walked in and there were 4 families standing in line to order at the only checkout stand. I asked another employee behind the counter making a drink where do I pick up my Togo order? She told me I had to wait in line. Waited in line for all the other people to order food while I could clearly see the only Togo order behind the cashier as ours.. short story long, take out ordering was awful and food was cold. Not impressed.

What a cheese burger should be: hot, meaty, cheesy, and with a crunch from fresh lettuce! Still the same great place it's been forever. Tommy's has a great reputation and they live up to it. My friends had Stella burgers, that's with blue cheese; they loved them, too! Onion rings were excellent! Customers come nonstop to pick up bags of burgers from opening till they close. Service might take 20 minutes or so, but it's worth it. The team of women there, gives service with a smile!Yup, they are all happy to be serving in "trendy Spenard"! Don't be fooled by the exterior. Eating on the patio in summer is lovely.

Ordered the gunslinger..... warning be very very hungry 😋 it was super filling and the taste was out of this world!!! May cost a pretty penny but it's soooooo worth it and I'm a ssi recipient (brokest of the broke) it's worth every penny!!!!

I went to their new store on Dimond Boulevard when I walked inside two employees were talking as I stood around for a couple minutes. No one acknowledged that I was the only other person in the restaurant. This is the care they have for customers. I have to imagine the food won’t be as good as the original.

Please note that this only applies to the newer location on Dimond. Horrible experience. Dirty floors and tables. Waited way too long for food. This wouldn’t bother me if the food was good, but my burger was inedible and the fries were cold. The bathroom is located in lobby of a shared building and requires a code. Bathroom was so disgusting. One toilet was clogged and the stench was sickening. Do not waste your time or money at the Dimond location.

Hopefully there is nice weather or you get it to go because inside there are only three tables. Service was outstanding. Polite,personable and accurate. Burgers were good. Battered fries were fresh, hot and they serve a bunch! We got a shake for desert, and it was really good.

We picked up a quick dinner to go on our way back to our hotel. Delicious! We tried the Aloha burger and the plain beef Philly cheese, both were very good. Reasonable price for Anchorage.

Had the Aloha Burger and it was delicious. Just the right amount of flavour, nice and juicy burger patty, and overall just a great burger. Little pricey, but delicious nevertheless.

Tomatoes looked old shriveled up tiny slice in the middle of my patty and the lettuce was just a little bit also that was limp, my order was wrong, they brought me a cheese burger served with stale hard fries!

Tried the Dimond location today. I wanted the hellcat,, as I was told it was the best, but didn’t see it. I had the sweet low down I think? It was a decent burger. But after all the hype I've heard over the years i was expecting “more”’? I’ll go back again though and try another one when they get a liquor license.

Poppef in to the new Arctic location and holy moly the Papa burger is incredible! Bit pricey, but worth it for the quality, highly recommend!

We are long-time very satisfied customers. However, in the last year your fries and burgers have become very very salty. The last time we were in the fries were so salty that we couldn’t finish them. Tell your chefs to lighten up on the salt and the burger and fries will go back to the original 5 star awsomeness!

I think the food is extremely overpriced for what you get. I had the sweet Charlotte burger. Expensive stand alone burger, and if you want fries or onion rings as a side, it's extra. It was good. Not great. The pictures online don't match what you get. There isn't much room to sit. They charge you extra for using a debit or credit card as well. I can see why a local place would be a "hidden gem" that's been around. In the close to 30 years living in Alaska, I am glad I tried it, but I am not in a hurry to go back, nor would I justify the cost of their burgers.

Ordered the papa D burger. Sounds good on paper, but omg terrible. The bun was stale and falling apart. The burger meat itself is barely a step above McDonald’s, and honestly tastes so processed. Worst burger I have had in Anchorage by far. The onion rings are amazing love those. First time going here. Will try other menu items. Maybe the burger joint has good salads and bad burgers.

Tommy's Burger Stop is the real deal. The burgers are juicy. The Cajon season give the burgers that little something extra. Im normally not a fan of burger buns, but Tommy has some strong, fluffy, buns.The home made fries and onion ringers are worth the investment (large portions/shareable). The blue cheese burger rich and pairs with the burgers savoriness. The staff is great and super helpful. They even recommend a burger for me. As I see it. Tommy only has one problem. It only has 3 tables. Which is not a problem when the weather is warm, but the the cooler weather the outside seating is out of play. Thank for the great lunch Tommy's.

There are many types of burgers. I had a cheeseburger, and it was bigger than In-N-Out, and the hamburger patty was thick and had a good texture.

Ya'll this is the best Burger place in Anchorage. Generous portion of hot and krispy fries. If you are new to Anchorage you got to try this place. I promise it will not disappoint you!

Tried this place for the first time the other day and the burger was so good I ordered the Special chicken philly to go and ate it the next day for lunch and it was fantastic also. Extremely busy lunch rush but when word gets out of great food that happens. Get there before noon if you can. Totally worth the wait if you can't.

They have the Best Burgers in town. Must be doing something right for being in business for over 20yrs. But I would advise to not order anything but the Burgers. I had a Shrimp Po'boy and wasn't pleased. Besides no flavor, I got 51/2 Small "overcooked" Shrimp in a 14inch Sandwich. Not impressed. And the Cajun Fries were very Salty. Again they make great Burgers. So don't judge it by the Sandwich alone. They are just meant to stick to what they are best at. BURGERS.

Taste wise it is clearly my favorite burger in Anchorage. However the new location has completely soured all of my future interests in ordering from the brand. My family waited over an hour for a food. We kept being told our food was coming and we watched as everyone else around us (who came in and ordered after) received and enjoyed their meals. 71 bucks for 4 single burgers and 2 small fries is also a ridiculous price for how small the portions are. The place is very loud and not one I would call an optimal space to have a family meal. The fountain drinks were not working and no only the high priced "premium" beverages were offered to us. I'm really let down. Very few things in life can compete with a great burger and good company and though the food was great the overall experience was a huge disappointment.

UPDATE! Still my favorite after 11 months in ANC! 3/17/24 I am new to ANC and trying to establish my favorite burger in town. So far, I’ve found a Holy Grail of sorts! There’s only one other burger joint I’ve eaten at in my 54 yrs that gets this right. The burger patty was seasoned perfectly and had a crust. It’s a perfect combination of taste and texture that elevates the experience. I had the Bacon Cheeseburger Spenard with fried egg. It was a perfect burger. And the French fries were also delicious and cooked perfectly. I feel bad for the rest of the burger joints in town, because I started with this one on the top of my list! Thank you Tommy’s!!

Went to the Dimond location today. Their Google profile isn't set up there yet - so leaving this review here. The entire staff was phenomenal. It is very evident everyone working there takes pride in their job and wanting to ensure they do right by the customer.

Tried to go to the Dimond location over an hour before close. The restaurant was busy with multiple groups actively eating. Walked up to a locked door with a note they had closed. Won’t be returning.

If you're looking for that hole in the wall diner with badass food....Tommy's is it. Landmark spot that is always a win.

A long established hole-in-the-wall local yokel Spenard restaurant; I highly recommend the Stella Bleu Cheeseburger. Hurry, go early & beat the crowds! Seating is extremely limited! It’s a total mystery to me that they’ve never opened the second floor up to more dining room space??

Been a staple in my diet for a solid decade plus. Usually get an Alohal with onion ring and it puts me in heaven. The Poboys are solid as they can be for a sandwhich. Love this place and the service!

A longtime Spenard/Alaskan gem! Hidden in the middle of Spenard, on the corner of Spenard and Benson, is this small but welcoming restaurant. You can either order out or stop in for a burger and eat at one of 3 small tables with benches on each side for seating. The burgers come out nice and juicy, cooked to perfection. They have a range of different burgers, Philly sandwiches, and homemade milkshakesàß. The prices can see slightly expensive being $8+ for just a plain hamburger, add another $4 for fries, but money well spent! Most definitely would recommend!

It’s really hit and miss. Sometimes it’s on point and most times it’s not. Ordered several burgers from this place and the chef almost always forget to add the toppings that comes with the sandwiches. Last time he forgot to season the burger. It was extremely bland. Unacceptable because the prices are extreme. 1 out of 3 visits they gotten it right.

Stopped by and had the special, The Cluck Norris and it was delicious. The staff is pleasant and efficient. I love this place!

I love Tommy's burger and I'm so happy he will be expanding to another location! Says a lot when you hold true for over a decade and keep consistent thru the years! Great food, great cooks (Irving especially) I always order the hellcat and have tried them all when I worked there long ago. Thank you for keeping it weird in Spenard!

I love this place for burgers. They always have fresh ground beef, never a frozen patty. Their halibut po-boy pretty bomb too. Fries on point. I drive from the Valley just to get a burger when I am craving, so it does hurt my feelings when they close early or just aren't open.

My wife and I tried Tommy's Burger Stop for the first time today. She got a cheeseburger and I got a chicken philly. They were both amazing! It was our first time but definitely not our last. Both sandwiches were juicy and flavorful. Top notch.

One of the best hole in the wall eating spots in Anchorage. Really enjoy there burgers and Poboys. I eat there at least 2 times a month. Lunch and dinner. Seating is tight in the fall winter so come early for lunch and dinner. They have outdoor seating during spring summer and early fall. Real ice cream shakes hand made.

Amazing experience here just a little mom and pop shop smells so good when you walk in the definitely local hang out! The fries are super yummy and obviously their burgers lots of options to choose from. It is limited space in there, so either order head or plan to wait for a table .

Amazing juicy burgers without being greasy. The fries are well seasoned and cooked just right. Sauces were flavorful(we had the Siracha Aoli and BBQ). A small fry is enough for 2+ people. The staff were friendly and happy to answer any questions we had.

Burgers are always fresh and delicious. Fries are fabulous. Tommy's is famous for Anchorage's favorite burger. Call ahead and you won't have to wait so long for your burger.

Perfect for when we were craving really good burgers. We will definitely be back! I tried the Stella Bleu burger and I'm not even a huge Bleu cheese fan but it was delicious! I hope they add some more fun burgers!

The food is absolutely wonderful. I did not enjoy waiting at the register to order with only a handful of highly cramped inside tables. Employees milling about but we still stood there waiting patiently to order and get out. Way too cramped inside. But again, the food was worth every cent!
