Rude young employees that made us uncomfortable

Such an iconic shore staple should really be careful who they hire. Don’t hire people that will close your store early to accommodate their social life. If the owner says we are open until 10 a customer should be able to show up at 9:30 and get a bite to eat or take home. Not this place. Although the hours say open to 10 they actually close up to an hour early. According to the 1st guy at counter he said his “district manager” called and told him to close early because sales haven’t been adequate. Right after that 2nd guy walks out from back and says that 10:00 includes the time it takes for them to clean everything and he closes early because by the time the oil cools in the fryer it’s 10 and they have to be out of there by 10. I told him he should clean after closing because the store is open until 10. He said “that’s not how it works here”. Happens all the time here. I wish I would have gotten the employees names and posted them here so no one inadvertently hires them after they cause this place to fail because of their horrible work ethic.

Clean and basic but great hot dogs, not oily and greasy just right on with flavor and selection...the staff was awesome too, very patient as I looked at the menu being a first time customer...good, fast and clean little place. 5/5 stars!

I've been going there for the past 40+ years. Love their fire grilled hamburgers! The fries are to die for, and the onion rings are tops. Yummy! Better than home! The staff is awesome! They know their regular customers by name. So nice to see. Sorry, but there really isn't much of an atmosphere. But it is clean and tidy. I was sorry when the Brick location closed. It wasn't as fun as the Belmar location, and I haven't been to Long Branch in years. Another goodie!!

Food is great hotdogs r the best and the fries r out of this world

To get things started , great energy right from the jump from the only two employees working. These young gentlemen were enthusiastic and willing to work hard. Made many jokes and were sparking conversation, seems like great guys. Food tasted amazing I recommend the cheese fries.

Great service. Long blonde hair guy was great. Very funny, enjoyed talking to, and great food. And overall a great person to be around. Would very much recommend this fine restaurant for special occasions. However, gumballs were out of stock. My kid was looking forward to a nice Windmill curved tip hot dog and a nice gumball. 5 stars my new favorite restaurant!!!

The place is very clean a guy named Joey help me out because I did not have enough for the food and he said I'll pay for it I thought that was very nice

Walked in last evening to three young men working and discussing bullets and Glock guns while an older woman stood waiting for her food to be completed... Will never visit again after many years of customer status ...as I had one of the three ask me again what I wanted on my hotdog with an attitude ... Then when I called him out for his lack of respect he proceeded to mouth comments under his breath. Had never felt so disgusted!!!!

Great hot dogs and all the sides near the Belmar NJ Marina. Try the onion rings! Friendly staff. Highly recommend for a quick dog!

Fantastic local hot dog spot. Open til midnight on a Friday, just what I needed on a stop over in Belmar. Bunch of characters behind the counter. Cheese fries hit the spot. Quick, easy, affordable. Can't go wrong with the Windmill 👍

The place is really gross. Still the same good hot dogs, so take it to go. They could do better on the rolls. They're too wimpy. I've always found the staff to be mostly friendly, although they all seem to hate the job.

I live in northern Jersey and was down at Belmar for the day so decided to try ordering from Windmill before heading back home bc I had heard good things. The order said it was going to be more than an hour so I decided I’m better off canceling because I couldn’t wait around. I tried going to the text I got & there was no option to cancel & it wouldn’t let me edit. I then tried calling windmill & there was no answer. So I went there, expecting to see a crowd, it was empty. Only one couple walked in before my friend & the cashier was very aggressive right from the get go, to the point I stood quiet. I mentioned ordering online & said I just wanted to cancel or if he knew how long it would be. He said numerous times he would have to take all the walk ins first & didn’t even start making our food. I looked around & there wasn’t anyone but the couple so I can only assume he meant he wanted to take care of anyone that walked in from then on before our order. I mentioned canceling again & he said he can’t do that, still aggressive & incredibly rude. I’m still shocked. His coworker finally came & gently said I just had to call DoorDash & cancel w them, where I did thank that gentleman. I will never go there again & cannot understand why they are part of DoorDash if they don’t want anyone ordering online. Horrible experience!

Had to ask for all the toppings not out like other windmills.

06/21/2024 - 3:00 pm - I placed an order for pick up and the order stated it was going to take over an hour. I arrived and asked the cashier to confirm the order and he had a poor attitude and was rather aggressive. We asked to place a new order and he had a bad attitude and said he can’t cancel and we had to call door dash to cancel. Which was very inconvenient, he didn’t care about providing any type of solution and was just nasty. The owner of this spot “WindMill Hot Dogs of Belmar” needs to teach that male cashier to be more respectful to others and the business. My family and I wasted our time driving here!!! This was a bad experience.

Great food and great employees!

Food is good, service is quick, nice little place. A bit on the expensive side but the food is good and kind of worth it. You know what you're getting, hot, good food.

I've been to this particular WindMill location several times over the last couple of years, usually after attending an event at the nearby InfoAge museum. Each time has been a phenomenal experience, and sometimes even the highlight of my trip. The food itself is always excellent. My go-to is the classic chilli dog and fries, but honestly, it's all very good. Be careful though: the portions, especially the hot dogs, might be more than you're expecting if this your first time. What I really want to call attention to in this review is the staff. The team that works here is friendly, professional, and engaged with the community. When a regular customer comes in, they know their name and order. While preparing the food, they make small talk with waiting customers, and truly seem interested in making sure everything is done properly and that they have a good experience. This is how things are supposed to be done. It's how they used to be done all the time -- but the fact is that it's rare to find these days. So you can go give McDonalds $10 for a sad burger and a handful of fries if you want to fund a faceless megacorp that's already worth billions. Or you can come to a place like this, where you're not only going to get better quality food, but you're going to be supporting a positive force in the community.

Food, always perfect. Customer service, always on point. Bobby is always a pleasure to see, full of energy, always with a smile on his face. Leo on point with getting me all the food as quick as possible. Been many times, will come back many more!

I love the windmill I've been going there for a lot of years, Tonight I had a big Ed Burger and it was awesome Delicious I also had French fries well done and fried mushrooms with horse radish sauce. The hot dogs and everything else at the windmill is fantastic. The service there is Very friendly and very professional. No question about it. I will be going back soon.

How do you let your workers vape while making customers food ..that is unsanitary.. 3 workers all were vaping... Fri night 12-15 23... How does the owner allowed it .. explain to me.. it's disgusting ..I will never go back there again ..

The food is windmill,so no complaints there .the parking stinks... But the crew is great. Upbeat always having fun and personable. They always breaking balls .I could go to the windmill in og...but why do that? The crew over here is way better.

Had two hotdogs, and they were good as well.

I can't say enough good about this place, and about the staff. The food is always good... and always prepared well. The staff is friendly and attentive. One sour note on my latest visit (I go several times per week): suddenly I can't dress my own hot dog. I don't like a messy frank. Many people pile toppings up, and the staff is of course going to be generous. But this change was imposed by management, I'm told. LET ME DRESS MY DOG, PLEASE!!!! But otherwise, great food, great service, greatvstaff. Great experience.

The Dogs are nice and snappy but the buns are weak and fall apart from condiments. Fries were delicious but onion rings were below average. Try the red pepper spread they have in the condiment section, it was really good. Prices are pretty high here (around $7 a dog) as well but in their defense the Dogs are large.

Would never go there again. The place smelled funny. The chili hotdog and the plain hotdog upset my and my daughter’s stomachs. The man who worked the register acted like he did not want to be there.

Today I went to the Windmill in Belmar for National Hot Dog Day. I ordered a hot dog, hamburger, and lemonade. I meant to get a chili dog and cheeseburger but failed to specify that. Don't know what I was thinking. I'll remember next time. The hot dogs here are consistently good. Today was no different. My hot dog was prepared perfectly. Piping hot as opposed to lukewarm like the hot dogs I had this past weekend. And at 4 to a lb it has some substance unlike the pencil thin 12 to a lb cocktail franks. This particular frank, a Sabrett pork and beef, has a great snap and a subtle blend of mild spices. A top notch hot dog. My burger was the first one I've ever had at a Windmill and I've been going over 20 years. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. I ordered it medium rare and it came out that way. Too many places overcook a burger. It stood out for it's rich charbroiled flavor. I will be getting it whenever I go to the Windmill. Sorry I waited this long. The Windmill is known for excellent service. I've never had anything less in all the years I've been going. The staff here is young and energetic. They truly seem to love their job. It's refreshing and adds to the experience. A great way to spend National Hot Dog Day. The only thing that would make it better would be if my wife was still here to enjoy it with me like so many times in the past.

Can't say enough nice things about the joint. Grateful that it's a tradition to hit this Windmill every time I take family to the area. Last visit, 7/18/23 the associates hit the ball hard out the park w/their personalized service. And the dogs are the best in the region, and the cheeseburgers impressed the hell out of me. Please don't change a thing. You'd break my heart.

Trevon helped me out with my order that consisted of 2 hotdogs and a cheese fry that was well serviced and even offered to wrap my hotdog that was all ready, it was my first time meeting trevon and a raise is what i saw and felt he deserved, so appreciated!

Best Dog there is at the jersey shore. Fries & onion rings are eh not so good but the dogs are a 10 outta 10 & the onions are fantastic too.

I walked in 20 mins before closing. I worked 15 hours multi-apping delivery services . I didn’t eat all day . I get a girl grilling me when I come in . Then she says what time is it? The cook then says this is the last burger I’m making . They asked me if I I was door dash which I said yeah but I don’t have it on . They begrudgingly made my order . And the denied whoever walked thru the door except for fries for a regular customer . If you want to close 830 pm don’t put 9pm on google . I work till the whistle and don’t complain and will stay after for a customer .

I love their food. There was only one girl working she was OUTSTANDING!!!!!! I recommend getting the Chilli cheese dogs and cheese fries!!!!😍😍😍

Food is good as always but, lately it seems that the burgers are getting more char on them.

Windmill has always been a great place to get a bite to eat on the way home. But lately the employees have made it hard to want to stop. Rude when you don’t hear them, rolling their eyes when they get your food wrong, looking like they would rather be anywhere but there, on the phone while counting money instead of helping the line of people, and now charging money to use credit cards? It’s gone downhill since the owners changed.

My childhood staple...worked there in the summers when I was a kid. I even travel from Tampa Florida just to go to the windmill lol. Would love to franchise one in Tampa or Clearwater next to the beaches ⛱️

Great hot dog. It's Huge! The place is a little gritty and run down but that's part of the charm. Only negative is its over$5-$6 for a hot dog. Hot dogs are supposed to be cheap eats. They sell a pack of 8 hot dogs for$16 . Buy it and make them at home!

I've been coming here since 1975, i moved to San Diego in 1983. Every year, I return to get my hotdog fix, unfortunately this time was a letdown. D9g was not as crisp and cracking like I remember. Hopefully, the next visit will be better.

The windmill is a good place to get burgers and fries the hotdogs are also very good. We had an issue a couple of weeks ago but the manager contacted my friend and reimbursed him for the overcharge. I would just personally like to thank him and apologize for my 1st review that I gave to them. Thank you again.

I have to admit I have been a fan of the Windmill for many many years, and have enjoyed their locations in Long branch, Asbury Park and Belmar. Went tonight for our usual delicious burgers and cheesy fries, which were great. But it's the chicken wings I'm so excited about! Absolutely delicious! Nice and meaty! I had the Cajun, nice dry seasoning, very flavorful but not so spicy you can't taste the chicken! Definitely getting these again on my next Windmill run! (Different person) also I was there with my mom and I liked it because I talked about cartoons with the man who worked there and he was really nice and the food was really good and the people were really good and I really appreciate the conversation I had because I don't talk to people a lot and it's been something I'm trying to work on and I enjoyed the positives social experience. Windmill has the best food and people!

Joe and Kye at your Belmar location made our Friday night dining experience delightful! Both of them were extremely polite and courteous. The food was perfectly made and hot, which was very welcoming because of the 17 degree temperature outside. To top off our delightful evening they gave us a free sample of your new franks and beans which we enjoyed immensely. We have been to many of your Windmill restaurants through the years, but tonight’s experience was such a pleasure because of Joe and Kye.

There was no balance with the cheese and the chili it was awful. Onion rings were burnt and so were the hot dogs and the hot dogs were very salty.

The guy working was really obnoxious and confrontational. Bad representation.

Rude and apathetic. When the server finally decided to acknowledge me, she responded with "what do you want". Wouldn't even look at me as I gave my order . Clearly an unhappy person. Been here plenty of times before, but never seen service like this.

Worst experience at a WindMill ever

Very nice,people were awesome and the employees very happy and aware of our needs.

Ordered grilled BBQ chicken sandwich. Chicken barely 3 inches in diameter and less than a 1/4 thick. Small dab of BBQ sauce added almost as an afterthought. Almost $7. Will not be doing this again anytime soon.

Food was very good....love the chilli cheese fries. The workers were nice and greeted us. Will be back!

Hot dogs are good but $7.00!? Hamburger is supper thin and gets drowned out by the bun. To top it off the soap dispenser in the bathroom doesn't work. How do the employees wash their hands before returning to work? YUK!!! First and last visit!👎👎

The food was really awesome. The whole place had a vintage food joint vibe. I got a Big Ed burger and a Reuben dog, both delicious.

First time here, was referred by local resident. As an Uber driver like to try different places. I will say the best hot dogs Ive had in a long time. This is going to be my Saturday spot. Excellent service, overall clean restaurant. You have yourself a new customer

Food is great and prices are reasonably

Terrible...will never eat here again. My wife and I got a burger and dog. The burger had no flavor and was paper thin. The hot dog must've been left over from the day before because it tasted like it. I could buy a better dog and burger from the store. The cheese on the cheese fries tasted like easy cheese in a can from the grocery store. For $30 we expected a better meal.

I had a Reuben Windmill Hot Dog and Chocolate Shake ( price of the shake was not worth the quanity, but at least it was thick and tasty), My sister and Hubby ordered regular Hot Dogs and shared an order of smothered cheese fries. Food was delicious 😋.

Had to update my review because google you cant leave multiple reviews but biggest feedback is that all 3 employees working over open stoves and grills were not wearing hair nets or anything like that. I ended up finding a decent sized piece of hair in my cheese fries skeeves me out cause it was in the mix of it all so yeah..1 employee had a hat on but he was the cashier also the bathroom was a wreck and no employees cared to clean it up as 1 of them was just standing on his phone while the others worked the orders. Shotty service but decent food.
