This has been the best Indian in Baltimore for decades!

It's run by a very welcoming family. We tried lunch buffet. It was very reasonably priced, lot of vegetarian options and great service.

I come here AT LEAST twice a week haha ! This is a must go all halal restaurant with great service. The $14.99 buffet is a do not miss. You will NOT be disappointed coming to this location. Locals and ppl from the native countries also dine here so you know it’s good. The taste never disappoints and there’s always different things on the bar. Stays up a lil past 11:30-2:30 so if your running late STILL COME!

A girlfriend and I stumbled here and we instantly fell in love. The food is fresh and the service is inviting. Everyone was so nice and patient with us ordering and trying new things. I brought leftovers home and my fiance loved it, despite him not being a big Indian food guy. We will definitely be here again for girls night and ill be here for date nights. I think I just found my new local Indian spot!

Went here for my first time today. Couldn’t believe the value for their buffet price. Staff was amazingly friendly and helpful, as I am not someone super familiar with Indian cuisine. The food was amazing, flavorful, and filling. I will definitely be coming back soon!

The quality, authenticity, and presentation of the food were excellent. Akbar is among the best Indian food I have ever had.

Loved pretty much everything about it, if there was a complaint it might be that the buffet dishes were slightly less dense then I would have hoped. Seasoned perfectly though and if I was a rice/bread guy I would have been in good shape but that's not part of my diet.

Today my sister and I went in to have lunch we decided to do the buffet after fixing our plates I noticed a huge (RAT) run up the middle of the floor I said to my sister I'm tripping I know I did not just see a rat and yes we both seen it again running towards the food area where the buffet was set up the staff came out with their phones with the flashlights on searching for it they never asked why we were standing in the chair their action was like they knew it was in there sad part I love this place but never again.

Just dined in Akbar Restaurant, the food is amazing. Even the atmosphere, as you go down the stairs into the building, is wonderful. I will recommend everyone to try chicken tikka masala and visit this place if you are interested.

My boyfriend and I order from here all the time. We usually get chicken tikka masala, veggie samosas and naan and it’s plenty for both of us. We’ve also tried the lamb korma. Everything is consistently delicious!

Lunch buffet, good North Indian/ Mughlai spread with vegetarian options. Reasonably priced with ample street parking. Paneer dishes are very tasty, chicken variety was impressive. Good service and ambience is good for conversations. Had the lunch buffet with colleagues from work. Very stuffed and satisfied (photos tell the story). Will return.

Listen….I was only trying to get a bite after work! I was not expecting to meet such a wonderful family with great customer service, that made me good fresh food (customized to my diet by the way). They are literally across the street from where I work and tried to comp my entire meal! Thank you but no thank you, that food was bussing! I had the Chicken Dhaba with rice and Garlic Naan bread. The food was priced nicely and good portions! The ambience was great, the son gave me a little lesson on their Punjabi culture and the wife showed me all the figurines she brought back from India and staged in the restaurant. Very good service and food. We entered the building and it was very clean and the atmosphere was beautiful. The waiters were coming every time to our table to make sure if everything is okay. For the food, We ate Lamb curry, and Tandoori Chicken and the food was delicious. I will recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Highly recommend this place! The best Indian food I have tried. I came here for dinner with my mom and everything was amazing. We started off with some appetizers. We order paneer pakora and samosa chaat. The paneer pakora had this tasty house sauce that went so well with the paneer. The entrees we ordered did not disappoint. The service was on so attentive! And the staff were very friendly and kind. The prices were also very good and reasonable. My mom and I left this placed leaving very full and satisfied.

Today I took my family to eat dinner. First of all, restaurant is not clean. Second, I ordered food and the price was over expensive. Quality of the food was old and poor. No taste at all. They use food from buffet during lunch the time for dinner orders. It was not fresh at all. The server is very rude. I would never recommend this Indian restaurant to anybody. I speak to the manager he was very rude. Low class Indian restaurant!!!!! Booooooooo!!!!

Under new management this place is outstanding The food is incredible. The atmosphere is amazing. The new owners are very friendly, welcoming and will care to you as One would expect. Highly recommend this place. I’ve been ordering from here since the new owners have been here. Have gotten catering from them as well as special orders of sweets. I’ve ate here 5+ times brought different friends for dinner. And every time it was out of the ballpark amazing food!

Best Indian Restaurant Has Great Food and Atmosphere.

Ordered through Doordash, was an amazing culinary experience worth every penny. I have chicken tandoori, eggplant and aloogabi with garlic Naan. Legtovers were even better then original but this restaurant deserves an award. Best Indian food around!!!!!

Dec 2023: Phenomenal and extremely value for money buffet! Lower priced Halal weekend buffet ($14.99) than most Indian (or Pakistani/Nepami) restaurants in Baltimore. Buffet that day had: Tandoori Chicken Chicken tikka Masala Chicken coconut curry Aloo Gobhi Matter Paneer Rice Garlic Naan/Naan Variety of Pakodey & more With new ownership has come much nicer food. Highly recommend.

Best food and service, constantly giving water every few minutes. Would recommend everyone to come here for a nice calm dinner or even the buffet everyday 11 to 3:30.

7 of us went to Akbar Restaurant and had the buffet. The food was very tasty and the service was great as well.

This use to be my favorite Indian Restaurant so much so they already knew what I wanted and how I wanted. They were friendly and inviting. Now not only do I feel not welcome, but the food I ordered taste nothing like before so much, so I question if I was served something different. This will be my last time at Albar. Miss the old Akbar and everyone who worked there.

Best Baltimore Indian Food Downtown (near Peabody Conservatory). Simply the best Indian food I've ever had anywhere! Our family has been coming here for almost 10 years, and unfortunately the original owner passed away. Deep Singh and his family are the new owner, pictured with me in this review. The tandoori chicken is amazing! Upbeat music, nice lighting, don't judge a book by its cover, come in and taste this wonderful food. I wouldn't visit Baltimore again without stopping by.. Very reasonable. And they also have beer and wine with a full bar. I'm very serious when I gave this five stars, and believe me, I'm conservative about giving stars out. And don't leave the restaurant without trying the mango lassi!!!🤗

We’ve been here multiple times over the last year and the food never disappoints! We’re always seated and served promptly, and everything we’ve ordered has been cooked to perfection. The Tandoori chicken is amazing, as well as the paneer makhani.

Nice Indian restaurant near Baltimore Convention Center. Visited last night with a group of 15 plus. Service was good. Food is tasty. Prices bit expensive because this is located in downtown area so which makes sense. Parking is on street side so it will take a while to find appropriate parking. Overall we are happy and will visit if near by.

The best Indian food in Maryland. My husband and I have been going there for 12 years and they never disappoint! The Goa Fish and Patek Paneer are my favorites!

Finally got to try this place after hearing about it from a Baltimore friend! Happy to say it's delicious! I ordered the Chicken Xacutti (zah-KOO-tee)--a spicy chicken dish--a side of Garlic Naan, Mango Lassi (a sweet shake-like drink), and a Gulab Jamun dessert (fried dough balls served in syrup). Yes, I ate all of it. The Chicken Xacutti was great, nice and spicy, served in a little pot carrying a candle inside to keep it warm. Great presentation and quality. Dinner price was $17.94. The Garlic Naan was wonderful. Soft and doughy throughout, just the way I prefer it. $4.00 The Mango Lassi was perfectly sweet and satisfying. $5.50 The Gulab Jamun was doughy, hot, and tasty! Served with two dough balls. $5.00 Overall, the meal was wonderful and the people I was with enjoyed their food without complaints as well. We went on a Saturday evening, when it opened at 5pm. There was no one when we arrived, but quickly attracted more customers. The atmosphere was small, dimly-lit, and decorated to accommodate several tables and booths. There was a small bar in the back, with two men serving the whole of the restaurant. The bathroom in the back was small, and did not have paper towels when I visited, but at least it had soap and water! Masks were not required. In short, I'm glad I tried this place, happy I went with friends, and satisfied with the quality of the food. The prices were a little high, with most entrees costing ~$15 and upward, even simpler dishes like Chana Masala (chickpeas). Still, it was good and delicious and worth a visit!! 4.5/5 from me

Disappointing. Ordered takeout from here twice in the past 6 months and really enjoyed the food. However our lamb dish this evening and the vegetable korma were very lackluster. The vegetable dish was billed as fresh vegetable mix and was certainly not fresh. The lamb was tender and good but the sauce was not very flavorful. The garlic naan was burned and partially unedible. Ugh, what happen to this previously delightful place?

This was one of the worst restaurant I have ever went. Very bad experience. Food was horrible. I rate this restaurant 1 star. Don’t recommend to anyone. They burn the chicken kabab. I ask for chicken curry with bone. But instead they gave me boneless chicken curry and it tasted very spicey

Easily the best Indian restaurant in a 100 mile radius! The tandoori platter is unbelievable - full of salmon, chicken, lamb, and shrimp. I’ve recommended this restaurant to all my friends and family and they’ve all had great experiences!

My family has been coming to this restaurant for couple of times and it’s a rare find to eat real Indian food. This is one of the best restaurant in the whole Virginia, DC Maryland area. The non veg specially mutton and chicken curries were so good. Veg jalfrezi and dal tadka is awesome! Naan and paratha both are soft and very tasty. The owners make you feel like home.

My friends and I went to Akbar while I was visiting Baltimore. The food was delicious and the presentation of it was just as incredible. I ordered the Special Akbar Dinner and everything was wonderful! I had leftovers multiple times from it and enjoyed it each time. Highly recommend!

Restaurant charged my card for pick up, was extremely rude in person and claimed they never got my order even after I showed them my receipt with the purchase. Will not be ordering from here again.

Great Indian food right on Charles in Mount Vernon

Good Indian food in the middle of downtown Baltimore. Got the Dahl Special and the Aloo Paratha. The Paratha was slightly overdone but the Dahl was perfect. Service was very attentive, with water refills appearing within seconds of my glass reaching halfway mark. Very friendly owner. The place did have a bit of a small though. I would return and try more of their dishes.

This is the rating for the god of the rudeness and ruthlessness the great Mr. Gomez who works there. But, the food there deserves 5 stars. He will serve you a very good food with the same amount of insult. If you are ok with such insults against the good food then you must go there. You will be served with the good food but you’re unwanted there. Again, the food was really good but not the person.

My phone had died so I could not take pics to show you great presentation. I had the salmon tandoori and partner had curry chicken and vegetable samosas and it was all very delicious. He let is sample the masala sauce and it was amazing, as was the mango lasso. I will be back. We were very satisfied

First-time post-covid. I'm not sure if I can still rank it as my favorite Indian restaurant. The food was good, but the service was lacking. What's good food without a great atmosphere, service, and ambiance? I need the whole experience! It took 40 mins to get our food, we had to send a dish back, whereas the non-melinated couple that came in after us ordered, got their food, ate, paid, and left before we even got the bill. Our server seemed irritated and aggravated with our table and acted as if we were an inconvenience when we asked for anything. Contrasted with the other table; he was all smiles and was very attentive. He made sure that they didn't need or wanted for anything. He constantly checked on them for satisfaction, but with our table, he seemed to skip over us, didn't check on us, and we had to track him down when we needed something. If he happened to be passing by when we asked for something, he would respond as he was walking away with his back towards us. There was a clear and definitive difference in attitude when he dealt with us. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt by saying he was an older gentleman and a one-man show. He was the hostess and server, and he also handled the take-out orders when there were two younger gentlemen sitting near the bar, not helping (maybe they were on break🤷🏾‍♀️). So, maybe he was overwhelmed and tired; however, this does not excuse his treatment and attitude of contempt toward us. I just wished that his treatment and pleasantries would have been consistent with all patrons, not just select ones, is all. There have been many changes, and not all were improvements. (i.e., the rice is now white, but last time I went for my birthday (March 2019) it was more of a (yellow) rice pilaf with saffron, cardamom, golden raisins, and almond slices enough for the whole table. I believe now, to get that type of rice, you have to order a biryani dish.) It will be a while before I go back, but if and when I do, maybe I'll try the weekend, and hopefully, it'll be better. (I will admit that the meat samosa was delicious, though!)

Absolutely wonderful and tasty Uber Eats delivery! It's always a toss up on UE between something over priced and nasty or not showing up correctly. Everything was delicious. The yellow rice was awesome! I was shocked and surprised it was hot and tasty! There was this Green chutney sauce with the Meat Somasa you straight up can eat a hard leather sneaker with!🤣 It was banging! Seriously. 😁 I swear they should make a bucket of this stuff and sell it to me! No pics this go round...to busy munching. Excellent late evening find. Fruit punch was definitely..."off"...you can taste it has been sitting a long time and was starting to turn into Hooch!!!

We did not expect the inside to be so elegant. We enjoyed looking at the paintings on the walls while we waited for our takeout to be ready. Our server was so kind. The wait was not long at all. We thought the food was great, but we are not too accustomed to Indian food. We ordered medium spice and it was HOT. Good thing to know for next time. Overall good experience!
