Favorite Greek restaurant in west loop, the courtyard is so beautiful and the service is consistently good. Their Greek salad and Athenian chicken are my favorites, and I always get their spreads. I come here with a few friends and we always end up staying at least 3 hours. Everyone go to Athena!!!!!

Loved the lamb chops but the rise and potato side was nothing. Also baklava tasted ok but was a weird triangular piece like pie and not layered with filo dough. Only dough was on top and fell off. Saganaki was very salty Greek salad was good not great but acceptable

The Greek meatballs and Spanikopita triangles were excellent. The Greek Salad was disappointing. The lettuce looked old and the size of the salad was skimpy for the price.

Great location with an open roof and large patio. The food and cocktails were great as always.

We ordered the taramosalata and it was the worst ever! The waiter admitted it used to be pink but the chef changed it. I thought for sure they'd given us the wrong thing; it had the consistency of potato and was tasteless. They were gracious and took it back and didn't charge us for it. The agvolemono was ok; the salad was made of romaine and pretty good. My vegetarian moussaka was in a small, single serving casserole dish, not a helping of a larger casserole. The bechamel topping was delicious, but underneath it was dry. Inside, the potato and zucchini were cooked enough, but the eggplant was chewy and undercooked. The only thing that saved it was when I dished some of our side order of green beans into it with some of the light, tomato gravy it comes with, to make it better! The side of green beans was the only thing we had that was really good!

Athena Chicago is a really good idea for Greek food. Very pleasant atmosphere and great service. The saganaki are very good, but it's a pity they don't burn in front of the guests. Greek stuffed chicken very good. Great fish. Beef tenderloin tasty. I can say that I spent a very nice evening. Vallet parking complimentary. A place worth recommending.

My wife and I have eaten at some of the nicest restaurants in Chicago. We have also enjoyed some of the most delicious hole in the walls or gems in the community. We had high hopes for Athena in Greek Town. The atmosphere is very much like being transported to a Greek Island tavern, however our initial experience was less than welcoming. When my wife and I walked in we were greeted and then immediately walked to a table that was less than appealing in a corner on the lower level next to a stair step to the terrace. My wife immediately suggested that we move and sit on the terrace. While I do think we should have been asked if we had a preference of sitting inside or outside this seemed fairly normal. It wasn't until we actually sat down and noticed that no one else after us was offered to sit in that same table.🤔 Going forward I would highly recommend the management ask guests where they would like to sit (inside or on the terrace) especially when it is a slow night like Saturday night was. It felt like we were asked to sit there to "be away from" the ambiance, which wasn't a good feeling. Our waiter Alex however was professional and attentive to our needs. There was a small error on our order but he was very apologetic and everything else including the flavor of the food was very good. I'm not sure if I would come back, but if I did I'd hope for a better initial experience.

They have been around for ever. They did not disappoint. They had the most delicious fries and wonderful Greek salad

Worst service! Really rude waitresse

We started to enjoy the Greek food and since we were greeted by a lady, she treated us badly, she received us reluctantly, one of the guys brought us the bread and I assure you that we waited at least 20 minutes for someone to tell us what we were going to do. take that we want to order and no one did. We walked out the door, said thank you, and no one batted an eye. Terrible service.

Came for lunch with my friend and while the food was good, the service was lacking. I made a reservation for 4 and 3 of us showed up 10 minutes prior to our reservation, the 4th unfortunately had a family emergency and couldn't make it. After waiting 15+ minutes for service at our table I let the hostess know that our last member of the party wouldn't be about to make it. I expected that this would mean we would finally get service, but unfortunately this didn't happen. Finally after 30 minutes of sitting at our table my friend had to ask again for service. The waiter was apologetic but considering we were there with an infant, this delay severely cut into our lunch date and we had to rush to eat. Waiting 30+ minutes for service in the West Loop is unacceptable, in my opinion, especially when there were only a handful of other patrons there. We weren't even given olive oil with our bread service until we asked after 30 minutes. Hopefully it was just an off day because I love the food and atmosphere.

The food was absolutely delicious! The service was a little slow, but it wasn't like we ever searched for the server. Their patio is beautiful, but it is NOT climate controlled, so if it's a hot day, it will be equally (if not moreso) hot in there.

Overall, Athena Greek Restaurant offers decent food, but there are a few notable issues. Food: The dishes are generally tasty and well-prepared, earning a solid 4 stars. However, some items could use a bit more seasoning to enhance their flavors. Service: The service was excellent. The staff was friendly, attentive, and prompt, which deserves a full 5-star rating. Atmosphere: The ambiance was somewhat disappointing. It was extremely hot inside, making it uncomfortable to enjoy the meal. Additionally, there were a lot of flies around, which was quite bothersome. This aspect only merits a 3-star rating. Overall, while the food and service were commendable, the atmosphere needs significant improvement to provide a more enjoyable dining experience.

Ordered the lamb loin chops via Uber eats. In the past Athena provided 4 chops for $33 and they were delicious. Today only 2 thin chops and it was terrible. Asked for a reorder or a refunded and they declined - terrible place and service.

Love the ambience and service here. We sat outside on a cool night by the water fall wall. The food was delicious with perfectly paired wine. Plenty of flavor and herbs in all ghe different dishes. The hot cheese was superb. The whole group had a great time.

Greek town is dwindling but Athena continues to thrive with its gorgeous space. The saganaki never disappoints. And the lamb is amazing. I’m a big fan of the retsina wine but it’s a bit of an acquired taste (pine). Can’t go wrong with the octopus either

Loved the first time experience. Timeliness of our meals was quick, server was friendly, food was hot and delicious. Visited on a really hot day so it was a bit uncomfortable eating hot food as we were sat in the glass atrium. Tables did have a hole for umbrellas and that would have made the visit more pleasant. Overall, it was wonderful!

We have had food here before and have just loved this beautiful restaurant with high-quality food. So when it came to hosting a graduation party for 40 with a Greek theme - we contacted Athena. Nazzie, the director there was super-responsive and helped us plan the event efficiently. Great service and food on the day-off!! Special call out to Dragon who helped all through from getting the party area ready, to ensuring all guests were well served. Very professional all around and all our guests really enjoyed the time!

I enjoyed the outdoor eating area. The food was just ok. The lamb was very tender and fell off the bone. The chicken was prepared well. I would have liked some kind of green salad instead of rice & potato. A sauce to bring it together.

This restaurant is fine. Some dishes are good, so not so much. Would recommend the gyro. Kebab was overcooked. Potato side was very bland. Will not be returning

My first experience eating Greek. Very friendly and beautiful restaurant in Greektown near West Side in Chicago. Staff was attentive. Tried the Greek Fried Cheese called Saganaki. I couldn’t help myself and finished every bite. Will definitely make another visit when visiting Chicago again.

We came with a party of 10 & I fell in LOVVVEEEE with the food here. Amazing food quality and the service was quite a wait but hey, they cooked it fresh & the employees were very polite & respectful. Food presentation? Chef kiss 😘🤌🏽 chicken was very juicy and had a nice citrus flavor not too much not too little. Just perfect.

First & last time for me.... Rude waitresse, the bar it's sooo big and nice decor but very small and wired menu, most of the alcohol and mixed they don't have it. The food was ok.

Excellent service all around. Our waiter was so attentive, friendly, and fast! To add, the other workers refilling water, and clearing empty plates off the tables were extremely efficient… you will definitely not experience bad service at this restaurant, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I just came from Athena room tonight and let me tell you it was amazing! Not only is the restaurant esthetically pleasing, but the food is mouth watering and fulfilling. Our waiter was awesome and made great recommendations that he thought we’d like. They also went over and beyond to let ne know that I had left my wallet there. That never happens. Thank you so much and I will definitely be back!

The cocktail I got tasted more like bottled juice than cocktails you can get at other places in the area. The spanikopita appetizer tasted like it was removed from a freezer and quickly heated up in an oven. You can get the same quality at a grocery store. The rice pudding was okay. The service was odd and not as professional as other places around here, as if they're used to working in a diner instead of a pricey restaurant. It seems like a fancy-looking place with mediocre service and food. Won't come back.

You never know who you will be sitting next to in Athena' but you can rest assured that the food will always be good and you will get great service. Athena has never disappointed - I have introduced so many people to this restaurant, and Athena's always made me look good. Highly recommended - I love sitting outside I the spring and most of the summer.

Beautiful dining room, so light and bright. The food was not great. And the service was lacking. We asked for bread to eat our Saganaki, but by the time it came, the cheese was gone. We ordered a trio of dips, but it only came with 6 little pots pieces for 4 people. We asked for more, but it never came. More than half our dips never got eaten. The servers lighter was out, so our Saganaki didn't get flamed (no fun! Especially because we brought out of town young guests who have never had it before). The food was not nearly as good as Greek Islands. They were closed on Monday and we couldn't make it Greektown another night.

Needs a remodel, as I went to sit down the chair completely broke apart, sending me crashing down to the floor. I was in shock when the owner said he's OK to everyone before he could even see me,then he said to me the kids get ice cream free on me I just wanted to leave. I was so embarrassed I couldn't eat as they were bringing out my food. So we decided to leave and then got the check we were charged for the ice cream along with my meal that I didn't eat.

Good Greek food in a large bright room not crowded or rushed to eat. Super friendly staff great service definitely be back soon.

Abundant portions with great flavor. My group the seafood kabobs and gyros platters. We also had the calamari appetizer. All the food was tasty, freshly prepared and portions were considerable in size. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was light and festive. This is a new favorite and a quick Uber ride from my office. Looking forward to my next visit!

Great restraint in the middle of Greek Town. We got hummus and feta as appetizers and then I got the Greek plate which was reasonably priced, and my wife got stuffed peppers which were very good. Excellent service polite and prompt. One of the best things is the free valet outside

Today was not a good day, the chicken was old because the meat was tough, and the service was very inattentive, the waiter barely attended to us, we opted to ask the people who clean the tables for things. It is not always like this, we have been there other times, but today it was very unpleasant

Driving to Las Vegas & looking for a place to stop for lunch - we are so gladded we went here! We got the rice bowl with gyro meat, the Greek salad (no meat), the soup, classic gyro, Greek fries & kids tenders - everything was delicious! The salad dressing was awesome & the lamb was so flavorful! Service was quick & all the servers were helpful! Great place! Highly recommend

I don’t typically leave reviews but after my poor experience dealing with this restaurant and their service I could not hold my tongue. I called on a Friday night asking “do you have any open tables?” I explicitly asked about tables. A woman on the other end of the line said if you come in at 7:00 p.m. we can “fit you in.” When we arrived they did not place us at a table but instead said they can try to fit us in and maybe place us at a table. First, they misrepresented their offer. When I asked for a table and they said “fit us in” they assented. This also resulted in us relying upon this misrepresentation and not being able to get into other restaurants. Be very careful with this business. It seems they are willing to sacrifice their reputation to make an easy dollar for mediocre Greek food at best.

Great evening out out, beautiful weather, quick service and decent food. We visited Athena last September as Chicago was cooling down and Athena’s outdoor seating was a wonderful way to spend my evening. Reasonably priced food and drink, tasteful greek decor and friendly service. The greek stuffed chicken was great plus we had leftovers to take home. The beef tenderloin was tender and tasteful but could’ve used more seasoning. Have been back since and will be back later this year.

One of the best places to eat in Chicago. The service was more than amazing and dishes were incredible. You may need some help trying to understand what are you ordering but for sure they will help you. I really suggest you to share the plates since they are huge and that will allow you to try more different things. For sure I will come back

I have been going to Athena for over 20 years. I have never been disappointed with the service. Never had to send a meal back, never had to make a complaint. This place is awesome and it's awesome because the people that work there are awesome. I am a person who has over 22 years in customer service, when I tell you the service that I have always received is unmatched. Thank you for a great evening. Great food and great service. The Lamb chops were absolutely delicious. I'm not a person who has her phone out at dinner, I like to be in the moment. The Lamb Chops never disappoint.

Always a great choice for a tasty meal.

To start, I have been going here for years. The food is good and the room is beautiful. But was there last night and service was barely decent. The busboy was more attentive than the waiter. My complainant is shrinkflation and pricing. The value here is awful. We ordered beets with skordalia. There were 10 small beet slices and a tablespoon of skordalia and it was $14. The gyro plate at 18 was pathetic. A few slivers of onion and the smallest gyro portion I have ever seen. But the disappointment came with the rodytis. A bottle of Apella which can be bought at Binnys can be bought for $8 and for $25 across the street at Spectrum was $46. To sum up service was less than good, food was still good. But the prices and portion sizes were brutal. Won’t be back. Food is 1/2 the price at spectrum and just as good.

First visit to Greektown and decided to try Athena. What a beautiful restaurant with great light and welcome environment. Note, they have free valet parking with their lot directly across the street from the restaurant. To start we ordered three spreads (hummus, tzatziki and tirokafteri) - all were delicious. Then split greek salad with added lamb. The portion was huge, plenty for two. The lamb was some of the best we've had.

Our server was so accomadating. My nephew has sooo many food allergies, and our server - put us at ease. Seperated the food in seperate plates for him, which helped him enjoy dinner with the family. Thank you

The ambiance and hospitality were excellent! Unfortunately, the food did not match the standards of the service. I had high hopes for my late lunch. I'd eaten at Athena in the past (pre-Covid) and had fond memories about the food & experience. I knew it would be a splurge and had the Athenian chicken. While the plate was plentiful the chicken was not well seasoned and was dry. The sides were rice and potatoes were all carbs. I ordered a side green beans to have a vegetable. While they were plentiful they were greasy and also not well seasoned. I had a 50 lunch that was mediocre at best. I know the fantasy never lives up to the reality but it was a disappointing experience.. There are other options in Greek Town to try. When I return to the City and have time to explore I hope to find a better restaurant.
