My wife and I loved this coffee shop. The coffee was absolutely delicious. Not overall sweet but had character. The food was also very good. I had a raspberry cream cheese filled pastry and my wife had the spinach quiche. They offered to warm them up and I highly recommend you do. They both tasted excellent! I enjoyed the lovely atmosphere and art pieces on the wall. If I ever return to NOLA I'll be sure to return to Backatown.

Only place we have found that does a proper coffee. Especially a flat white. Lovely place and friendly staff

Probably worst cappuccino I have ever tasted in USA. Hell hot, just a mixture of coffee and milk. Doesn’t look like capu, doesn’t taste like cappu. And some kind of milky smashes all around and inside the cup. When I gently and politely asked barista to remake cappuccino he refused We’re sad experience.

The workers were lowkey a little mean to my mom and like dude I love my mom be nice to her😞 but they were chill nothing crazy and the food was good

Beautifully relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious food and coffees. Recommended if you are visiting Nola or a resident! Its definitely my new spot! Be sure to try the raspberry grilled cheese! ☮️🖤😗

This was our second time visiting Backatown while vacationing in NOLA. I was a little disappointed because they didn't have the Crawfish and Grits this time, because it was so good the first time we visited but everything at this place is good! We ordered so many items because we could not choose. This place has a nice vibe and the employees/owner are so friendly and welcoming.

I am local and my work takes me all over the city so I love finding local coffee shops to have a nice iced latte. I found backatown after a quick google search to find some coffee near where I was working. I had the crawfish quiche and the limoncello mascarpone cake…. Just wow! So delicious! An amazing historic and ambient atmosphere too being located in historic Storyville. I also got an iced latte with amaretto and it was perfect!

Came here on a Tuesday in June. The guy working (in the photo) was so rude and dismissive. Our interaction was maybe only 90 seconds long but it was rude enough that I felt compelled to leave this review, especially after the Vietnamese Iced Coffee I ordered was absolutely not that. The “barista” ignored us at the register, didn’t smile or greet us, talked to his coworker the entire time throughout and took almost 10 minutes to make two drinks. The space wasn’t busy and there were two people behind the counter. The Vietnamese Iced Coffee didn’t even have condensed milk in it and was not sweet at all. Avoid.

The avocado, egg, and tomato toast was great and the sweet potato scone was so delicious. Nice quiet ambience!

Upon entering the building the decor was real nice with a down to earth industrial vibe with various pieces of art work. Ordering was great until having to deal with one of the employees there who was exceedingly rude, unprofessional, and unpleasant to interact with. Thomas was heavenly though and was gracefully apologetic. We also had a pleasure of meeting locals in the shop who were welcoming. The food though! Top tier I had the best chicken salad croissant and the group I was with enjoyed some chia pudding, crawfish quiche and a variety of coffee and drinks. All in all it was a great experience minus that rude employee. He would definitely have business go elsewhere if it was dependent on his attitude.

Was following simple feeling of this coffee shop being close to my stay and good review. But this place has amazing studying/working vibe if you are looking for a place to concentrate. Amazing coffee, skillful baristas and damn those scones are truly damn great!

Atmosphere and service was excellent! Staff is very friendly. Went in for only a coffee. The coffee was below average. Could have just had drip coffee at the hotel and it would have been the same. Not many gluten free or vegan options for food.

The coffee was really good. The atmosphere is really nice. My biggest complaint was the male with the single braid used the same gloves he used to count money, to prepare someone's food without changing his gloves.

My favorite neighborhood coffee spot. The coffee and pastries are fantastic! Great spot to get some work done or read a book. On weekends, a lot of tour groups meet here so it can be a bit crowded at times but they typically leave fairly quickly and free up seats.

Visiting New Orleans on Spring Break and found this to be a great place to get into the city and do a bit of work. Great vibes, beautiful establishment, and the staff is very friendly! I recommend getting the crawfish quiche; it was great!

Coffee cups are comfortable in hand, i will be dreaming about the warmed up, strawberry almond scone, and it is a large space so laptop has room if you bring one.

This is our first time in New Orleans, and on our walk, we discovered this place. The staff are incredible, the place itself is really clean and has a really cool vibe to it. Good and coffee are great too!

I adore local Coffeehouses. And to find one with great food is even more so a plus. Backatown is a must visit every single time I'm in New Orleans. My favorite food items to order are the crawfish quiche, chicken salad croissants, and fresh fruit. I usually get one of their tasty pastries and a latte as well. Everything is very reasonably priced. They have a menu that offers lots of items, so I'm pretty sure there's something for everyone. The atmosphere is very inviting. It's clean and spacious. The type of place to go with your computer to get some work done. The only gripe I have is about the parking. Be prepared to drive around until you find an open spot nearby. Other than that, this place is a gem. It is also a Black Owned establishment located just outside the French Quarter. Oh, and just as an FYI, they also offer catering.

Stopped in as we were staying nearby. Cortado was good, food was alright but not amazing. Staff was busy running things solo. Decor is nice, plenty of room, clean bathroom.

Great place for quick breakfast or brunch. But you'll want to stay longer for the cozy atmosphere.

If you need a good coffee in this area this is by far your best bet. Reasonably priced, friendly staff and good place to get some work done.

There’s currently (Jan 2024) a ‘coffee shop desert’ in the Quarter, with very few options for a place to get both food and coffee while also getting some office work done. Though just outside the Qtr proper, Backatown is easily the best spot for that trifecta. Large, cozy atmosphere with lots of seating options. Food and coffee is reasonably priced and the staff are always very friendly.

They don’t make coffee like this up north! Best I’ve ever had! Very friendly and professional! Beautiful little coffee shop.

The place was the best breakfast experience in NOLA, the food, the service and the ambiance were definitely great! We got Tuna Salad on Butter Croissant, Crawfish Quiche, Salmon Capers Bagel and turkey panini.

Great cappuccino and they have nondairy alternative. Nice coffee house vibe and artwork on walls. Could use more cleaning of dining space at the time I was there. I had breakfast there but the avocado was not fresh sadly.

Hot latte with lavender and the coffee mocha with oat milk were both delicious. Vibe of the place is super chill and laid back - nice place to work, read, or just people watch. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Crawfish quiche & the turkey, egg, cheese croissant were awesome.

If you only care about coffee, looking for filters espressos and other black coffees with interesting flavours, you can skip this place. Had an Americano but sadly had to pour it down the drain after a couple sips, genuinely that bad, nothing but ash-tray flavours, completely undrinkable for me. Can't judge food and the atmosphere is okay, but for a Coffee Parlour, I'd suggest a bit more interest in their coffee.

I have been a regular customer at Backatown for all of 2023. I work virtually, so it’s a beautiful environment with a great menu where I can take meetings on zoom. I even bought their VIP package on Mardi Gras for my whole family, so that we could have a place to reset and work during the parades. I spend probably $100/week or more here and bring guests all the time. I love supporting a Black owned business. However the last two times I’ve visited, a young employee starts closing down at 2pm and then yelling at people to get out as the clock approaches 2:45. Because I work on zoom, I plan my work day around being able to work until the advertised close time at 3pm. The first time I observed this behavior, an elder Black woman addressed this young man’s tone, but he didn’t back down. Today I addressed the way he was speaking to me as well, and he continued to fuss and speak disrespectfully. If this place is advertised to close at 3pm, it should honor that commitment to its customers. If you’re going to allow an employee to close early for whatever reason, spending customers should be treated with dignity and respect. After so much investment in this establishment, I honestly feel conflicted about returning or recommending it after this treatment.

I did not like, that I have received my coffee in paper cup, even if I said in advance that I will drink there. They have ceramic mugs...what a waste :(

Ordered a standard 16oz latte — unfortunately tasted bitter and burnt, and was *way* too hot to drink.

Amazing! Kind staff, fantastic service, great vibe. We stopped in yesterday before our cemetery tour, and are back today even though it's nowhere near the rest of our plans for the day! Just too good to stay away. Chai latte is perfect, and my mom says the same about the regular latte. Get a cranberry cream cheese scone, you won't regret it!

I walked over here this morning to grab some fresh coffee and a little bite to eat. I tried the crawfish quiche and bagel with salmon. I don’t know if everyone in NOLA just knows how to cook or what, but this crawfish quiche was so damn good. It was seasoned perfectly and has spinach in it as well. Absolutely gorgeous breakfast; I was so pleased I had to leave a review.

This is a hidden gem. It's walking distance from the quarter, the atmosphere is amazing(think the pictures from YouTube coffeehouse lofi videos), and the food is good.

Pleasant service at this canteen style room with plenty of space between tables, if a little cavernous. Nice bloke serving but overworked. Outside chairs packed away well before closing time which was a bit inconvenient.

Hidden gem! The coffee was delicious, and the food offerings were unique and tasty. I got a raspberry grilled cheese, which sounded weird, but was surprisingly delicious! The atmosphere was urban cozy with a lot of natural light and is a place you could easily hang out at for hours. The service left something to be desired. I asked for a cup of water, which I was told to get from the table. After I pointed out that the water was empty, I was told it would be filled. After about 20 minutes, I asked again and was told it would be filled, which never happened in the hour I was there. The sandwiches also took about a half hour. I got the impression they reserved good service for locals, because there were regulars who came in well after us and got their food well before us. That being said, if you aren't on a time crunch and are okay with a relaxed timeline, it's worth a stop.

Great little spot for a coffee and small bite to eat. Had healthy options for breakfast such as chia seed pudding. They were out of a lot of breads when we were in but I had the avocado toast on a bagel and it was delicious.

I keep finding new places around me and so happy about coming across this cafe. First of all the rose pistachio donut was all I needed to make my day. It is divine. I definitely want to come back to try their lemon blueberry cake. Outstanding customer customer care and I truly appreciate the artwork. The place is spacious and has great seating if you want to do any work on your computer or just relax with some friends while you have your coffee. This is officially my new favorite coffee spot.

It's a very nice place. The menu online showed a full breakfast menu, like shrimp & grits and BLT's, but they only had muffins and bagel type things. Did not get anything from there, but will go back to try some of the coffees.

If you are visiting NOLA I suggest you do as I do and bee line here straight from the airport because I am so glad that I did. Coffee and espresso drinks are sooo excellent, one can tell they source from a high quality bean and this man can make a serious latte. The man working behind the counter on this glorious Friday morning does it all, idk how he does it! But it is definitely a talented art he has perfected— making drinks and food at the same time. Perhaps a gift from God? The line doesn’t even get backed up. He is blessed. Idk if he is the owner or not but he should be. I got the avocado toast- highly recommend. Light, simple, tasty, beautifully assembled with care and patience. The man even brings it to your table— again how DOES he DO it! His natural poise and cool as a cucumber manner is more than just admirable. I’ve seen many ‘professional’ chefs lose their sh** over an avocado toast but this man doesn’t skip a beat. Once I noticed he was the only one working I felt a little bit bad for ordering a more involved menu item but I am so glad I did because it was delicious. I tipped on my first order but I need to order something else so I can tip him again this man is other worldly. Oh good another employee is here! He is so happy to see him. Love. Time to try the quiche. I love this place! Everyone come here!!!!

This place is a great place to work or study! They have great food (breakfast/brunch/sandwiches/pastries), great coffee, and the people/workers are very nice! The atmosphere is light and open, there’s low background music that plays, and usually there’s some small talk that’s not too distracting. I love this place! There’s street parking that’s usually full, so you may have to park a little further which can be slightly sketchy, but that’s really the only downside.

Nice vibes. Loved the salmon sandwich and sweet potato pie! When we went there appeared to be a staff shortage but the only man running the show did a great job despite all the multitasking he had to do. Kudos!
