For over 20 years this beautiful French Quarter restaurant has consistently been excellent and has never strayed from my top 3 in New Orleans. Everytime I come to NOLA, Bayona is on my list of places to eat. The restaurant is beautifully appointed, well placed mirrored walls expand cozy rooms. I ordered the goat cheese, chanterelle with a madera sauce. Umami bomb! It was so delicious. Then I had the shrimp and grits with pimento cheese. I had to remember my manners and not lick the late. We finished w a moist olive oil cake served w marmalade and scoop of vanilla sorbet. My ONLY critique is that the marmalade was very sugar heavy, the bright orange was over powering but that didn't stop me from.cleaning my plate. Service was exceptional from the time we stepped in until saw us leave. Our server was accommodating and willing to make sure our food allergies where addressed. She had a marvelous sense of humor and was a pleasure to tip!

We stopped at Bayona on a whim while walking by and were met with an incredible staff and even more incredible food! Bayona is a fine dining restaurant, but without the pretentiousness of a place like Brennan's. The waitstaff were really really excellent, accommodating, and made the posh establishment feel inviting and attainable for anyone. Every bit of food we had was absolutely sensational. Our group had the daily fish special, the lamb loin, and the rabbit. Every dish was wonderfully composed, unique, sauced perfectly, and seasoned to perfection. I would absolutely come back. As a bonus, they have a garden seating area that gorgeous, but only available when there's no rain in the forecast.

The service here is top level and the atmosphere is just so fitting for the menu options. I came in for lunch and ordered a brand new burger off the menu. It was so new that the manger even came over to get my feedback as I was apparently first person to ever order it. Overall, a nice attempt for a new menu item. While mine was slightly overcooked, the overall balance of the burger and it's interesting use of brie cheese made it one to remeber. With that said, I would love to go back and try some more traditional French items. I would recommend you do the same.

We went with friends to Bayona last week and found the food to be no more than average. The wait staff were wonderful, but everything they served seemed mass-produced. That included their famous garlic soup and the desserts we ordered. I sat in the one mismatched old chair, placing me below everyone else at the table. It was funny at first since I'm considerably taller than my wife. Bayona should update their menu and chairs.

We were really looking forward to this restaurant. My wife ended up with heat stroke and I had called to cancel our reservation. I asked to speak to the manager as this restaurant charges a $25 per person cancellation fee. The hostess quickly rushed me off the phone and said the manager would call me later. I never received a call and was charged the full $50 cancellation fee. I would have gone on my own and just ordered a drink had I known this to be the case. How does a highly rated restaurant not care about their consumer at the end of the day or even bother to return a phone call? Shameful. Avoid this restaurant if you are coming to NOLA.

It may be because we had such high expectations after reading about Spicer's awards but the restaurant was sadly mediocre, The service though pleasant felt rushed. The menu was varied but everything tasted almost the same - a little spice and seasoning then toss on some butter. Even the desserts were middle of the road. There was no WOW factor. We went for beignets afterwards. Great wine list though and ambiance. Ask for courtyard seating if the weather is pleasant.

My wife and I were in New Orleans in March 2024 for a scientific meeting and went to Bayona with two other friends on a Saturday night. The occasion was, in part, to thank the one friend for his service to the organization over the past five years. Below is a partial summary of the various dishes we ordered: 1) grilled shrimp with the black bean cake 2) the duck breast 3) smoked quail salad 4) a lamb tenderloin special that night ALL of the food was superb; there were no disappointments. Our server was excellent - personable, willing to offer recommendations when we asked, yet still attentive to what we wanted. My wife and I had last eaten at Bayona in 2013, when we were in New Orleans for the same scientific meeting. The meal was phenomenal then, and our recent experience made clear that Bayona had not lost a step in the past 11 years. One last note - I am physically disabled and going up or down steps is a challenge. Bayona is located in an old Creole cottage with a large step up into the dining space. The staff were INCREDIBLY helpful in terms of my entering and leaving the building; they very quickly set up a small metal ramp for me to use and were prepared to help in any way I needed. We will return...

We also had the Garlic Soup which was tasty but a little bitter....which garlic is...but we thought it might come out just a touch smoother The entrees were fantastic and could not be improved upon. The Scallops with Gaufrette Potatoes not only tasted amazing but was such an attractive looking dish! The Roasted Magret Duck Breast was our other main and it was cooked to perfection and the sweet potato puree and cherries were bursting but not overwhelming The Dutch Oliebollen w/Blackberry Compote was simple and tasty and warm Service was wonderful and attentive and we were never left wanting for anything And the building is old and full of character and oozes NOLA energy

We arrived at 8 PM for our 8 PM reservation. We arrived behind several other people. We were seated in the order we arrived. The host staff was friendly and genuinely smiled. This makes a big difference and was welcoming. The room rectangular main dining room had brownish-reddish upper walls with white lower walls and trim around the doors and windows. The were multiple non-descript pictures in the spaces where the walls would have been bare. There were mirrors lining the long inside wall which make the room appear bigger. The carpet was a dark green. In each half of the rectangular room there were 2 green pedestals with green marble tops with flowers in the center of each square. This broke up the dining room in a pleasant fashion. The pedestals were surrounded by padded chairs with a multicolored fabric with green as a component which matches the pedestal color well. The rest of the chairs were wooden which are medium wood tones with a red hue with padded seats with red cushions which match the chair’s wooden hue. The tablecloths were white with white napkins. The table were covered with a white piece of preprinted paper with a thank you form Chef Spicer and a drawing of the restaurant. The table was set with a salad fork, dinner fork and knife along with water glasses and salt and pepper. There were white bread plates with a silver rim. All were restaurant supply quality. Overall, it appeared as a fine dining establishment which is tastefully decorated. The waiter arrived and took asked our water preference. The menu was divided into Small Plates, Soups and Salads and Main Courses. Bread service was also offered for a fee. There was a wine by the glass list included on the menu. The wines by the glass listed were overpriced. The main wine menu was moderate-large in size and mainly focuses on European wines, Like the wines by the glass, the bottles of wine were more expensive than expected. There were several specials for the day which we listed. We decided on a shared first course Veal Sweetbreads with Sherry-Mustard Butter. It was offered as Veal Sweetbreads with Lemon-Caper or Sherry-Mustard Butter. The sweetbreads were cooked well. The sherry-mustard butter was underwhelming. Neither the sweet from the sherry nor the tang from the mustard was present. Next, I had the Crispy Smoked Quail Salad with Pears, Spiced Pecans, Bourbon-Molasses Dressing and my wife had the Duck Confit Salad which was a special of the day. The duck confit salad was fine. I do not remember what it came with because it was forgettable. The quail salad was outstanding and is probably why it is continually on their menu. It was one of the best dishes I ate in New Orleans. For the main courses I had the Fennel Pepper-Crusted Lamb with Duck Fat Roasted Potatoes, Herbed Goat Cheese, Zinfandel Sauce, Haricot Vert and my wife had the Poussin and Poire Rôti with Savory Bread Pudding, Braised Greens, Winter Spices. I had assumed the lamb would be chops or steaks but was sadly mistaken. The lamb loin was cooked to the correct temperature of medium rare but had no flavor. The lamb was lean. The crust did not add any flavor. The potatoes were ok roasted potatoes but I did not detect duck fat. The green beans were cooked properly. The sauce had flavor and more would have improved the dish. The lesson of the day is to ask questions before ordering. My wife’s chicken was delicious. It was moist and delectable. The bread pudding was ok. The braised greens were good. The pears were nice. It was a good dish. We had coffee and the Roasted Nut Tart for dessert. The tart was sticky, gooey, full of nuts and enjoyable. The coffee was the best we had in New Orleans. The waiter was friendly but the friendliness was a bit forced at times. We ordered several glasses of different wines and had to remind him that we needed our second glass before our main courses arrived. He did check several times to see how our meal was going. Our water was refilled without asking. Out of site of the dining room but within earshot, the waitstaff and kitchen staff were having several disagreements over the course of the dinner. My guess is they did not realize that their bickering carried into the dining room with such clarity. I will remember the smoked quail salad for a long time, but it is not enough for me to return.

Lunch dessert was a scoop of pistachio for me, perfectly creamy and delicious and the pot de creme also creamy and delicious. Dinner was duck pate for me to start and oysters Hollandaise. Dinner was fennel peppercorn crusted lamb and duck with a cherry sauce. Poached pears with pistachio custard and the best bread pudding my wife ever had. My wife has many food allergies and they handled them without blinking an eye. Great wine selection to boot. The best of the excellent restaurants we have been to in New Orleans. We started by sharing three appetizers: a quail salad, veal sweetbreads, and lobster bisque. All were perfectly cooked and dressed, adding complimentary flavors that enhanced the whole. Then I had a normally simple shrimp and grits with a sauce that made the dish rich with flavor. The shrimp were truly tender and barely cooked. We also had a pb&j duck sandwich (actually it was cashew butter) made with the best multigrain bread and tender, lightly cooked duck breast. The room and atmosphere were classy and formal, but the service was friendly, welcoming, and helpful.

Our favorite meal while in New Orleans!! Bayona is well worth the splurge. We received many recommendations before traveling to the city, but we found Bayona as we were walking by, and it did not disappoint. Bayona is a James Beard recognized restaurant that is located in an old home, and each room has a different vibe. It was too chilly for us to sit in the courtyard in January, but every aspect of the restaurant had so much charm. Our server, Allison, was absolutely incredible. She was knowledgeable of the menu, and was also so wonderful to talk to. She gave us the sense that she really cares about New Orleans and wanted us to have a wonderful time in the city. For our appetizers, we had the foie gras (special), eggplant caviar, baguette, and Bayona salad. For our main courses, I had the scallops and my wife had the lamb. We enjoyed both dishes very much, but my wife liked my scallops so much that we got another order of scallops for dessert! We can't wait to come back the next time we are in town!

We went to Bayona restaurant for our final dinner in New Orleans. They apparently have a very nice outdoor patio, but because the weather was cool, we ate indoors. The room was perfectly nice. We ordered salads to start and my salad came out literally (and I do mean literally) drenched in oil. It tasted like the chef had actually submerged it in a vat of oil! We don't like to send things back, but we did so. The head waiter was polite about it. The second salad came out and it was fine. We then ordered fish. When it came out is was so salty it was almost inedible. Was the chef away that night? We both looked at each other, and resigned sent it back. The waiter was polite but clearly not pleased. The replacement fish they brought out was absolutely plain and bland. It was not the preparation described in the menu. My wife’s meal was entirely unremarkable but edible. We did have a lovely server named Anna, who made the whole experience bearable, but the food was a total disappointment. And to top if off, of all the meals we ate in New Orleans this was the most expensive and lowest of the bunch. So be forewarned prices are fairly high for food that was at best indifferent. What a disappointment.

I had a mixed drink called Stormy Morning. It had a violet liquor in it, and yet it was fruity, but not too sweet. Color wise it Looked like a stormy morning, which worked, since it was cold and rainy. We started with a tampanade for one of us, Lobster Bisque for another, and I had garlic soup. The others tasted my soup and thought it Too garlicky, however I found it wonderful! All of us had the pleasure of having quail salad, which we all loved! Went in the late evening and from the moment we walked in the door everything seemed to take forever. The time between courses was excessive. My entree came out pretty cold and the duck was chewy. It appeared to be cooked to the correct temperature, but I assume it had sat around a good while before it made it to me. I should’ve sent it back, but I had already waited so long at that point that I just chewed my way through it. The first course wasn’t much better. We came here for an upscale NYE dinner and it simply didn’t deliver. Most importantly, the meal took forever to come out. 40 minutes after we put in our order we still hadn’t received the first course, or bread, or anything - we were starving, asked if we could have bread while we waited, and it came out 10 minutes later (for an added fee). The first course came 10 minutes after that, an hour into the meal. Each course after that came out very slowly, it was downright uncomfortable to wait so long between courses. Second, the food quality was poor, considering how expensive it was. Many dishes came out room temperature, suggesting many elements had been sitting out a long time - certainly related to the slow service. Most of the food felt like the quality on a cruise ship (passable, but a little suspicious) and the desserts were worse, almost inedible. Overall, the dinner was far too expensive for the food and experience. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Nice location, not trendy, and quiet. For the costs the experience, it’s not a go back to restaurant. The waiter was facetious, didn’t come back to find out why I was not pleased with the soup, they were accommodating to split our main course which was very good, along with wonderful salads. They charge for bread which was not impressive, also. Accolades to the Wine Stewart. But we sat right next to the open hallway and set up for the waiters and their pages where there was constant commotion and stressed faces when they walked out. Unfortunately the restrooms were located by the kitchen which looked like it was connected to the hall way set up. There were words of anger between the waiter and maybe the cook, Not sure.. but we left anxious to pay the bill and leave.

Over priced and over spiced! I was really looking forward to an upmarket Christmas Eve dinner but unfortunately left disappointed. The tasting menu had huge portions and seemed a waste. The food in general was not up to the standard of most fine dining experience as it wasn’t refined enough. The Crab bisque was probably the best course I had and even that was underwhelming and had a strange chalky texture in the mouth. My husband order crab gratin which was basically a boat sized, it was huge tub of cheese, cream and crab. Really too rich to be anywhere near a tasting menu. Not to mention that our wine parings were coming after our food was finished for each course. But the service was good other than the timing. I could go on and on about the food. It wasn’t worth the money. It’s not refined at all and nobody who has $200 per person to spend is starving at Christmas. It’s very important to get the richness and portion sizes correct. But the most horrific thing that happened was dessert. Two of the 3 dessert options were cake. I felt like I was at a retirement home holiday party. Seriously get a pastry chef if you want to charge these prices and cake is served in the afternoon with tea not at dinner!

The night started out pleasant enough after being seat and introductions with the service staff. Then it got strange with abnormally long waits between ordering the wine, waiting for the wine and then waiting to place our orders. Then the longer waits (15 to 20 minutes) each time for the apps & entrees to be brought. Then abnormal wait again for the table clearing. After receiving the check and waiting another 15 minutes for someone to collect, I went to reception to pay. At no time during any of these waits were we informed of the meal status or if there was anything we needed. Very poor service and what we thought was going to be a highlight of our trip turned into a disappointment.

Our hotel concierge recommended this restaurant for a quiet, romantic dinner. It was a great recommendation. Steve and Griffin were our servers. Food and service was incredible. This was the best meal I’ve had in a long time. Service was so personalized and friendly. Thank you for taking such good care of us! Mike and Sarah

I had the best evening with a friend at Bayona. Impeccable service and wonderful delicious food. I had all of the vegan options. Rarely are there so many, such as soup, salad, entree and dessert! I walked away so full and satisfied. My new favorite place for fine dining in New Orleans! PS The servers were fun and attentive.

Business dinner with my reps from Southeast USA Great food, drinks and service. Garlic soup was different but good. Duck pate' was outstanding. Old Fashion drink just so so, but Russian River wine was excellent but 400%+ markup was really not called for. I had a perfect meal of pan seared scallops that could not be any better as they melted in my mouth. Truly a 5 star taste, 5 diamond dish. One rep had the crispy duck and was impressed with his meal. He has traveled the world and recommended nd made the reservation for this restaurant and he said it could not be any better. The other two had the Red snapper, one loved it so much as to say this was the best he had Ever had, ever had. Repeatedly. The other rep this was his first experience with Red Snapper and he is now a big Fan and will order it everywhere. I don't think it will be as good as Bayona. Service was excellent. Drinks and water glasses were attentively refilled expediently by a true professional staff. Dessert was good but not over the top. Caution everything is ala carte and expensive, but I will recommend to the highest and return.

Let me be clear - the food at Bayona is good. But not good enough in my opinion to justify a $40 main course. We weren't particularly hungry so we ordered the bread to nibble on and went straight into mains. The bread was probably the best bit of the meal - delicious sourdough with plenty of butter to slather over it and the perfect salted crust. It wasn't complimentary, which normally I'd begrudge (most restaurants in the French quarter seem to do complimentary bread) but in this instance it was worth it. Then our mains. My husband ordered a lamb dish, which looked very pretty and tasted good. I ordered a trio of rabbit, although it seemed to be more of a duo and the presentation was poor. Overall the dish lacked texture and seemed to be a pretty homogenous bowl of nice tasting slop. We also shared a side of truffle mac and cheese, which was really a penne pasta in a truffle laced creamy sauce. It was OK but underseasoned and the pasta quality tasted like something from a grocery store. A smaller pasta shape would have suited better. A side note on drinks. This place did have a good wine list. We didn't sample the cocktails but I was impressed with the quality of the wine. Service was average and varied like buses - from waiting for our server to three turning up at once. We ordered the bill and decided to go elsewhere for dessert. If you have cash to splash, Bayona would be worth a visit. However there are better restaurants nearby at similar price points or cheaper. The food is good but poor value for money and the service inconsistent.

Quite disappointed with this restaurant. I had a trout filet with rice and it was mediocre at best. The fish was dry and the rice was smothered in butter overpowering any other flavors (if they even existed to begin with). I gave them another chance by ordering dessert and the cappuccino mousse was another disappointment. What was passed as mousse was in fact ordinary whipping cream mixed with coffee and a bit of Bailey's. If you want to grossly overpay for an underwhelming experience then this is the place. Too bad as the location is great and the service was outstanding.

The menu seems to change quite regularly so my review now might not mean anything in 3 months. The food was good and Griffin and Michael are great. They are attentive and give their maximum to make the customers happy. There is a reasonable and decent wine selection. There are a very diversified menu. Each item on the menu looks good. The bread was good. I would recommend to order some. However, I would have love to have more choices and options. I think a good steak is always a good think to have no matter what. The others guests around the table were not very happy with their pork chop. I had gulf fish and duck. It was good! The place looks great and the staff is really good and kind! I would recommend this place if you are looking for a different type of food. They do propose things that you cannot find anywhere else or at least not commonly. Overall a good experience.

Wow, that was that the entire experience from the moment we walked into the door, till the moment we left. Seating was easy to check in and get seated at our reserved time. Allison did an incredible job with her Server assistant, I believe named Ralpheo taking care of us. Every recommendation was on point from pairing the salads with entrees to the wines and multiple cocktails. The Sweetbreads were cooked to perfection. With an entree of Lamb to follow. You have to save room for the desserts. When I find myself in New Orleans again, I will have to stop here again. Truly an incredible experience.

The atmosphere of the building and the courtyard is great. However, the food honestly felt a bit lacking. I was very excited to try the garlic soup after seeing the reviews, but we were disappointed that it seemingly lacked any salt or seasoning at all. After asking for some salt it was good. The duck pb&j was good but the presentation and taste was more akin to that of a barbecue sandwich than something I’d expect from a fine dining restaurant. Maybe I caught it on an off day, but for the quality of the whole place and all the hype I’ve seen, the food was good… just not as exceptional or mind blowing as I’d hoped.

Quite possibly my favorite restaurant in the entire known universe. New Orleans is known for good food, and Bayona is the diamond in the tiara. The menu is changed daily and the ingredients are always seasonal, fresh, and top quality. The veal sweetbreads with lemon and caper sauce is my death-row dish. On our last visit, our server Raphael was impeccable, helpful, and made numerous suggestions to help us navigate the menu. I’m not quite sure Heaven exists. Maybe it does, but probably not for scoundrels like me. But if there’s a chance, I hope it is like Bayona.

Lets ignore the fact that a rat the size of a small cat was hanging around the courtyard while we were dining, in addition to multiple roaches and mice. That is part of life in new orleans and we looked past it. You did not deliver on the food or the service. Scallops were super salty and overcooked. The lamb arrived cold and also overcooked, like it was sitting out. We waited about an hour for entrees. At no point after the entrees arrived did anyone check on us until we asked for the check…yet you claim to be a fine dining restaurant. What a joke. Don’t worry Stephen, we tipped you 25% regardless. This was probably the worst dining experience I’ve had in new orleans.

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a delightful lunch at Bayona, a renowned 30-year old restaurant with a charming courtyard that adds an extra touch of ambiance to the dining experience. It’s surprisingly tucked away in the heart of the French Quarter, offering a calm, upscale experience that doesn’t feel uptight. As soon as we entered the courtyard, the serene atmosphere and beautiful surroundings instantly transported us to a tranquil oasis. The attentive staff made us feel welcomed and our lunch was nothing short of perfection. You honestly can’t go wrong with anything on the menu and we can’t wait to return for dinner. Allison was our server. She coursed out the order perfectly, checked in regularly, refilled drinks, and made it so pleasant. Whether you're a local or a visitor, Bayona is a hidden gem, highly recommend it.

I make a point of eating at Bayona whenever I'm in New Orleans. The food never disappoints, ever. This time, my dinner companion and I shared the bone marrow appetizer (which was other-worldly delicious). We also both got the smoked quail salad, and it was even more perfect than the last time I had it--the sauce on the smoked quail is balanced to perfection. My entree was the duck, perfectly prepared. Not a single thing amiss. Except for the service. This time we had a waiter whose game seemed to be feigned familiarity--speaking absurdly in third person ("what will we have next?" "Shall I bring our check?"), virtually slurring his words, and slumping against any wall or table while he talked. It was a very unusual experience for me at Bayona, where the service has always been warm but entirely professional. I tried to deal only with our secondary server, whose name I think was Peter. He was excellent and actually salvaged the experience.
