We just came back from France again and I was complaining how much better everything is over there. Standards down here in nola are extremely low so when I go somewhere I don’t expect anything special in regards to customer service “you won’t get a hello or thank you most the time”, and the food isn’t nearly as good as people think it is. Nor is it priced accordingly for the quality. I find everything pretty meh down here for the price. However, with all the negativity there are a few positives. Bellegarde and their euro sandwich. Currently sitting at 6.50 it’s a normal deal considering in France they were around 5 euro. Bellegarde’s baguette is one of the best also in the city. I rank it up there with breads on oaks in terms of crust, quality and taste.

I really enjoy shopping here. It's definitely like a small food boutique full of natural, homemade, and delicuous foods. Bellegarde also offers vegan choices. Plus the classes are Amazing. I've attended 2. However, please purchase quickly because the classes, like the goodies sell out.

Off the beaten path, but totally worth it. The pastries were great; the bread (we had a baguette and an epi) was world class. Truly excellent. Walkable if you take the St. Charles line to its Carrollton Ave. terminus. No real place to sit and eat, so more for takeaway.

Very good baguettes. Heat them in the oven before dinner and your guests will rave. They are on the pricey side.

I visited specifically to finish a gift basket with some pastry options. They were super helpful as I didn't know what I was buying. I didn't realize they sold finished goods as well and will certainly be back. Service is outstanding!

I'm obsessed w this worker owned bakery. Everything they make is excellent and they carry heritage and heirloom grains and flours. I had an old person cookie (date and apple) and it was as good as any chocolate chip monstrosity of my youth - and they have those too.

Best sourdough bread in New Orleans, and their pastries are top notch too -- don't miss the morning buns! Staff is friendly and the space is beautiful! -- Edited to say nine months later that the staff used to be friendly but the last four times I've gone, including today, it's been the same woman at the counter and she has been decidedly *not* friendly. No smile, no greeting. It's a bummer.

I went to get their grits. I don't know where else to get grits of their quality. They are the best. So while I was there I picked up a croissant for lunch. OMG It was so good. It's a good thing I don't live close to this place.

If you are on a gluten-free diet, Bellegarde’s bread and pastries will make you change your ways!

Great neighborhood bakery. Their country batard was so good that my dog stole the last few pieces pieces of my loaf a couple weeks back and I am still longing for the final bites I will never get to cherish 😬 "happy hour" drinks from 12-2p make this a great place to stop by in the early afternoon for a coffee or tea. It's a bit expensive, but the flavors and effort they put into their quality products shows and is very much worth it if you cherish an expert baked treat, IMO.

The most perfect and beautiful bakery! Their baguettes are perfection, and my favorite sweet pastry here is the date cookie.

The bread here is decent, I didn't try any pastries because all of them have some sort of dairy in it. The prices were quite high, and while I ate the entire baguette (yes, in one sitting) I was having a difficult time justifying spending that much money. Costco sells a pack of two baguettes for $4 that never disappoint. Given that this bakery adds sourdough into the baguettes, perhaps I expected it to taste more "sourdoughy". Nonetheless the bread tasted good. The sourdough sesame bun was a nice texture, but I would only suggest you getting that item if you really like sesame seeds... If you really want your sock blown off, try going to Levee Baking Co. They had vegan options and the bread and pastries I got make my mouth water thinking about it...

Being French, this is the best baguette in town and probably in the US to my knowledge. However, more than $6 for a baguette is absolutely outrageous.

2 bakeries in New Orleans are fighting for my utmost attention. Bellegarde is #1. All there breads are delicious.

I don’t live in New Orleans but when I visit I go to Bellegarde Bakery and stock up on items. I’m a home baker and Bellegarde inspires me! ( and the cardamom strawberry preserves are amazing, too! Hope that returns 🤞)

I love Bellegarde! They have the most amazing fresh bread and pastries, and I’m so excited to try the pizza and coffee! The epis are a perfect addition to any charcuterie board or family meal.

There is a reason why every morsel of food that comes out of Bellegarde is a treasure. The team who bake there are purists who work from the heart. The products are locally sourced when possible. The owner has such passion for his craft. Its like entering a sculptor’s studio but you get to eat the art. Pure joy!

Honestly a great experience. Superb bread and great people. Imaginative baking and fresh, healthy, locally-sourced ingredients. Just a great artisan bakery. Highly recommended.
