The best place to eat kajun cuisine in Baton Rouge. We are Spanish and after reading the reviews about the place we decided to go and try it. Everything is great at Ballue's, the food, the price, but especially the staff. They were very friendly and even gave us a tour of the place. We highly recommend it. It is a really special place.

Such a great experience! I'm a trucker who was picking up a load nearby. I was hungry & looking for somewhere to sit down & eat before I got on the road. I called ahead & Ms. Amy answered. I wanted to know if there was somewhere I could park my semi truck & trailer. She was very informative & said I'd be safe to drive & park. I made my way over & as soon I walked in, I felt welcomed. Ms. Amy showed me the greatest hospitality. She brought me samples to try some of the items on their menu. It was delicious. I ended up going with their Monday special. Which was the deer & sausage sauce, with white beans & corn. It was delicious. The food & service was excellent. This is definitely a hidden gem. I enjoyed learning about Mr. Bellue & his history from Ms. Amy. I enjoyed talking with Ms. Amy as well. She was attentive & so nice. Thank you for the great hospitality. I will definitely be back & highly recommend this hidden gem

Food was sooo delicious. Got some back ground on Bellue. Pretty cool story amazing he's how long it's been there and that he's he's still doing so much the old fashioned way. It was great I definitely recommend stopping in. You'll be back!!!

This place is amazing. Incredibly friendly staff, feee samples, great prices and stunningly good food. I have 5 stars for atmosphere because it’s very “small town genuine”. If you don’t want to eat your meal sitting on a stool with a 2x12 nailed to the wall for a table… just get your food to go. Highly recommended!

Amazing service, Amazing food, Amazing prices. It don't get better than this! A small stop that's reasonable. I've been several times and I've yet to have anything I didn't like. Red beans, boudin, etoufee, it's all great! Staff offers free samples fairly often and are very friendly. If you want an easy good tasting dinner option for at home they even sell frozen meals that you can just reheat!

I had the pleasure to visit Bellue’s this past week. Food was awesome. We had spare ribs, macaroni and cheese, cornbread dressing with shrimp, corn bread and beans. Very friendly atmosphere. The owner greeted us , gave us some samples and took the time to chat. Highly recommend. I can’t wait to go back in May to try something else!

Don’t let the location fool you this is hands down one of the best restaurants in Baton Rouge. Food is absolutely delicious and the people are friendly and very much appreciate your business. Try the etoufee over cornbread dressing and the fried catfish and boudin. Wonderful!!

An absolute must visit! Everything is delicious. The customer service fells like you at a friend’s home. They welcome you with open arms and will spoil you to death :-) We had the smoked pork chop plate served with rice dressing, cornbread dressing, greens, and sweet potatoes! Amazing flavors and just the portion size ( a lot). The reds beans and rice! They know what they are doing! Macaroni and greens can’t explain just eat and enjoy Fried boudin links perfection…. I can talk about all day but I would miss mentioning the peanut pralines aka peanut candy! Melts in you mouth and complimented with a delightful chew almost crunch! Forget what you thought you knew about banana pudding— simple and good it is an experience all to itself!

Stopped here on our way to New Orleans. The friendliest people ever. Our first introduction to cajun food and it will likely never be topped. Thanks for having us!

Absolutely amazing. I’m born and raised in Louisiana and I can confidently say that it was some of the best food I’ve ever ate. The staff was super generous and even gave us samples of some of their items to give us an idea of what to order. Mr Bellue even came out and gave my son a cookie and some yams. We tried the etoufee, deer sausage poboy, fried boudin, white beans and the oatmeal cookies. Absolutely phenomenal. I will gladly make the hour drive to eat here again and the prices are on the cheaper side so it’s good food and cost friendly.

I’m from Texas and we don’t have hospitality like Bellues. From the moment we walked in all of these people including Bellue himself were absolutely amazing. Incredibly friendly and helpful. It was like talking to an old friend. Wish I lived closer to visit more often. The food was outstanding. We had the pork cutlet meal and the fish etoufee meal. So delicious! Thanks Bellue for an awesome experience 😍

I had the red beans with sausage and rice. My sides were yams, cornbread dressing, and cornbread. The corn used in the cornbread had just been freshly grounded and made into corn meal. It sent me back home to growing up with my grandmother. The staff were amazing and treated you like you were apart of the family. Such sweet wholesome people. I will be returning back!

You could always tell a good stop by who the regular customers are! We drove into Baton Rouge, and this was our lunch stop. Everyone was a working person coming in for a meal. That's all I need to know in my book. From a mechanic, law enforcement, tow truck driver and a few office girls we knew you'd be well served in this place!

My family of 6 was passing through Baton Rouge on our way to New Orleans for a family vacation. Googled authentic cajun food and this gem popped up. The hospitality was great! We have never been to Lousiana is what I said when ordering, and as soon I said that we were greated with numerous samples my 4 kids could try and they immediately wanted the Éstouffée Supreme, greens, white beans and green beans. Hands down some very delicious food! 😋 the catfish was perfectly fried, the crawfish was so mmm yummy. My family was completely satisfied! Will return on our way back to New Mexico.

After visiting my son at LSU, my lunch here was the highlight of my trip. The food was seasoned “exactly right” and appropriately moist and very flavorful. The owner learned that I was visiting from Colorado and he gave me a tour of his kitchen. He is a perfectionist about everything he does. He showed me the weight scale they use, for example, to season the various side orders. Everything is seasoned EXACTLY the same every day. If you came here five years ago, it would have been seasoned exactly the same. He has various timers throughout the kitchen. Everything is also cooked the same temp for the same length of time. He showed me his recipe book with many dozens of laminated pages. We even went out back of the restaurant and he showed me his various welding projects. He welded most, if not all, of the various tables in his kitchen so that food prep will be done the same every time. He has some pressurized “cooker” he designed that makes sure everything is prepared to extremely exacting standards. The restaurant itself is older and there is nothing that can be remotely considered “fancy” — leading to its charm — but I’m telling you everything within the walls of his restaurant has been very thoughtfully designed and crafted by a genius of a man when it comes to the “engineering” of food preparation. All this leads to one thing — decades of loving attention to his fantastic and authentic Cajun food. Wirt, the owner, was interested in hearing my son describe his coursework at LSU. He was interested in hearing about me and about my life in Colorado. We briefly met his lovely wife. We sat in the employee break room and swapped stories. He made us feel like VIP’s — though we definitely are not — but I can tell he just enjoys people. I told him he could easily charge 50% or more than he does — he acknowledged he easily could — but money is not what motivates him. He should live for a long time as he has found his passion in life and he seems to completely enjoy his vocation and craft. Thank you sir for showing us around. I will be back next time I visit Baton Rouge.

Me and my husband went there today for a lunch break during our long road trip from Miami to Houston. They offered us many type of foods to taste.Each and every item was so delicious.We had a very nice and friendly conversation with the owner of the restaurant. When we were heading back he gave me lemon cake which tasted out of the world 😊.

I have always loved their food, whether it's a holiday meal or a lunch plate. The employees are absolutely wonderful also.

First time in Louisiana trying gumbo and this was far from a disappointment. The gumbo and chicken Glace were chefs kiss. There is so much history here and their hospitality was that of a family member.

I got the Holiday Feast for Thanksgiving and y'all, it was marvelous. I had leftovers for my family and we are using the ham for Christmas. Thank you family at Bellue's because y'all are family and treat everyone like it too.

I can not rave enough about this place. What's not to like? The food is literally the best. Service is top tier. They make you feel like family. Oh, and did I mention, the food is phenomenal!! Make sure you try the strawberry cake and also the Supreme (shrimp) crawfish cornbread dressing. Tell them Ashley, the nursing student, sent ya. Trust me, you won't regret it.

This place is the definition of "food made with love." We were driving through from Houston to New Orleans and stopped in Baton Rouge for lunch. This seemed local and had great reviews and I now know why. The ladies talked us through the menu, gave us samples, and everything was delicious. Great food, great portions, great value, and great service. If you don't know what to order, close your eyes and point to the menu. You won't go wrong.

I almost went somewhere else, but when I walked in, the menu was very limited, and none of it spoke to me. So I went over my choices again, and chose Bellue's. I sure am glad I did. This was one of the easiest five star reviews I've ever given. I was in Baton Rouge for work, and was determined to eat some good traditional Louisiana cooking while I was here, and Bellue's was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I got the Crawfish Etouffe Supreme, which was the Etouffe served over cornbread dressing with fried catfish. I got mac & cheese and French fries on the side. It was an enormous amount of food, and asily could have fed two people, but I ate it all myself anyway. The Crawfish Etouffe was beyond delicious, slightly spicy, and it soaked into the cornbread stuffing, giving it a mashed potato texture. The catfish had a light breading that let the catfish be the star. I spoke with Amy, who took my order with enthusiastic cheerfulness, and told me that Mt Bellue makes everything himself from scratch, from the meats to the pies. He even makes his own turduckens! Much of it is also available to take home in the cold case and freezer case, including things like deer chili and venison sausage. Not only will I come back if I'm ever back in Baton Rouge, I am sure I will remember and talk about this place for the rest of my life. This lunch was really special.

I ate here every day for lunch 5 days a week when I lived in the area. Hands down best Cajun cooking around. I live in Tennessee now, and I miss it so much.

I was recently going through my photo album and found this picture from 2019 from when I stopped here with my family. We were headed back home to Florida from a road trip out west and decided to stop here. I remember it now as one of the best restaurant meals I can recall. EVERYTHING was incredible. Not only was the food great, but the owner, Wirt, was an unforgettable host. We were told that he invented his own method for preparing the food they serve here, and was confident enough in it that we were given several free samples to try. The man has every right to be confident— there was nothing we didn’t love! I’m starting to considering a trip back to Baton Rouge just to eat here again! The atmosphere is very inviting. It’s definitely casual, but kept very clean, and visitors are embraced. If you’re looking for authentic southern hospitality and delicious food made with real ingredients, you’re not going to find a better place than this.

I've been going there for years, I don't know who that blonde is, but she should not be taking orders. Every time I called my order in, she somehow forget that it's ready and sitting up there she can not multi task. She should stop talking to folks and work. Today..it wasn't just my order. They may lose a long time customer because of her. The older female had to address the issue with her today...smh.

You might have to sit with a stranger and all the food is to go even if it's not. The food is down home Southern home cooked. If this is your first time here, tell them and they will shower you with free samples of their amazing food. The employees and the customers are talkative and friendly. I've spent a week from Texas to Mississippi in Louisiana looking for a place like this and I'm so happy I found it. I wish I could bring the entire restaurant home. I would give them six stars if I could. If you like down home Southern cooking and light conversation with locals this is the place for you.

Food is incredible, inexpensive and you receive a good bit of food!! In this time we are in, it's great to have a full course meal for less than $20.00 I paid $12.00 for 3 pieces of ribs, white beans and rice cornbread dressing and mustard greens. Everything was well seasoned and very tasty!!!! You will not be disappointed!

Great hole in the wall Cajun food!

Have you ever dreamt about food? I mean food so good it shouldn't be possible. I think about this restaurant several times a month and I can almost justify the 1800 mile drive to pick some up. I shared about 10 items with my road trip buddy and each and every item was perfect. What the hell is white bean salad.... phenomenal is what it is. I have been to Michelin star restaurants and if I could eat anywhere I am in Bellue's parking lot in a second. There is only one thing that's better than the food, it's the staff. You are family when you walk in there. It's a beautiful world when you have people that have such big hearts and welcome in us weirdos from SoCal. Thank you, Bellue and your staff for a experience of a lifetime. I will be home soon. ;)

Fantastic smoked meats and lunches. You will not leave hungry. Most of their business is takeout but there are a few tables and stools. It's all about the food, so atmosphere is an afterthought. They are very popular with workers from the Exxon refinery across the street. Can get a bit crowded and parking is limited. They cook most dishes ahead of time and refrigerate them till needed. That allows all the flavors to blend together, especially the Tasso and smoked sausage. Their red beans, white beans, and mustard greens are outstanding. Cornish hens are part of the daily menu. Turducken also. My favorite dish could be a meal for two or you could save what you can't finish for leftovers - the Crawfish Etoufe Deluxe. It is Crawfish Etoufe on top of a smokey flavored bed of cornbread dressing and your choice of fried catfish or shrimp on top. Outstanding! They sell many of their products in their refrigerated and freezers. This includes smoked meats, sausages, Glace, and other meat products, and she of the same prepared dishes they sell at lunch. Prices are fairly cheap for what you get.

If you're looking for a true Cajun culinary adventure, this place is an absolute gem!

What an amazing experience! This isn't your fast food kind of stop! Since moving from TX to TN I have missed out on my Cajun food. So my wife surprised me with this place. When we pulled up the small parking lot was full. Once we were able to park we walked in and the place was packed. Everyone there knew we weren't regulars. Mr. Bellue came out and introduced himself to us. Seeing that we didn't have anywhere to be and I enjoy talking we hung around and learned a lot about his life of being a police captain and welder and the food that he makes with his amazing team. This review doesn't do the place justice and words are not enough for an amazing place and amazing people. We were truly blessed. If you are the type of person who likes to travel off the beaten path and like to experience something amazing I highly recommend this place. Just be prepared it is a small sit in eating place and it is extremely busy during lunch.

Was passing through LA after a 11 day road trip and wanted some authentic Cajun food, this place was the perfect stop!! Blue(owner) was a great host and treated my family like his own! We ordered and blue gave us samples of his cornbread and beans, they were awesome!! Im going to recommend this to all my friends and family!!

We found this spot on a list of the best spots to eat in Baton Rouge, and they did not disappoint! I was hoping for some good Gumbo, but it didn't look like they sold it for you to sit and have there, but they package it to go. Since we're visiting, I wanted something I didn't have to take with me. My husband got a Shrimp Etouffee and dressing with a side of Mac and cheese and broccoli casserole. I got the habenaro chicken tenders over a salad. The chicken tenders were seasoned appropriately, not too much spice, but just enough to get a gentle kick (although I heavily enjoy spicy foods that will melt my face off). Both meals were very good and extremely filled for great prices. Staff was extremely friendly, and we'll be back before we leave to head back home.

The standard by which Cajun food should be measured

Literally the BEST food. Before we even ordered, we were given samples of food to try, then when we told them we had never been there, they gave us even MORE food to try. When the food was ready I about died from happiness. The greens, beans and rice, and Mac and cheese were the best I’ve ever tasted. The boudain was so good it should be illegal. The chicken strips were huge and soooooo juicy. The people who work here were the icing on the delicious cake. They were kind and inviting and so sweet. If you don’t stop here, you’re missing out.

Was in Baton Rouge in April with my boyfriend (we are from Canada) and went here for lunch because we wanted to try authentic cajun food. Our experience at Bellue’s was one of the highlights of our trip to Louisiana. The staff gave us the friendliest service I have ever had in a restaurant! When he found out we were Canadian Bellue came and sat and chatted with us for our whole lunch which was super special and something I’ll never forget. Hospitality aside the food was AMAZING! Everything we tried was piping hot and packed with flavour-I don’t think you could go wrong with anything on this menu. This is place a MUST try if you are in Baton Rouge

Quick local favorites, great lunch time meals

We were traveling from Texas to Alabama to see family, and stopped in for some authentic Cajun food. We were seated in the back because they were busy up front. Bellue personally came out and had a good long conversation with us. He recommended food, and gave us samples. Best of all, you could see how much joy it gave him to see us enjoying some of his favorites. He made my wife, two kids, and me feel like we were at home, and the food was all so good. We will definitely be back on our next trip through.

This place is everything you'd imagine a down home, southern Cajun restaurant should be. Go early. Getting in and out of there can be difficult if the adjacent road is busy. The food is 100% worth it! Don't forget the homemade pies and deserts. 😋

Wonderful host! Bellue gave us the tour around his property and even shared a variety of tasty personalized treats. Easily a favourite for my partner and I, 10/10.

With a limited amount of time in Baton Rouge, we chose to eat at Bellue's due to the previous positive reviews. They did anything but disappoint! The staff and owner were wonderfully kind and the food was delicious. We were able to try the shrimp/crawfish etouffee, the chicken and dumplings special, a shrimp poboy, and lemon cake for dessert. All were well-portioned, very reasonable, and very tasty! You can tell the owner enjoys what he does and that our experience is one of many, as evidenced by the kindness shown towards the customers who came after us, local or not. We will be back again if in the area!

I will be recommending Bellue’s as a must stop when traveling through Baton Rouge to everyone I know! The staff and owner treat you as if you’re their own. We were immediately greeted with samples, warm conversations, and hospitality like no other. The food is phenomenal. The flavoring, variety, and time spent on these dishes is untouched. You can tell it was made with love. As a souther girl, I felt like I was back in my granny’s kitchen eating all of the best southern dishes. Place definitely wasn't fancy, but we were here for the food. Food is all fantastic! Mr. Bellue and his staff were all so friendly and hospitable. That was so refreshing! It was our 1st time here and we got samples of so much good stuff. Next time, we'll bring an ice chest to bring home food from his freezer. Everything was good that we tried...etoufee supreme with shrimp, fried fish, mac & cheese, lima beans, white beans and tasso, etc. I don't even like beans and I'd order the white beans they were so good! Wish the praline popcorn came in a bigger size. Can't wait to come back when we travel down I10 again!!!

Just, WOW! Absolutely highly recommend!!! Mr Bellue and family/coworkers: you all know how to cook and throw out some of the best food I have ever eaten, and the best company I have ever encountered! I honestly don't think I will be able to eat out anywhere else in Louisiana HAHA. I have never felt so welcome in an unfamiliar place as I am not from BR, but it feels like home already! Me Bellue and his crew took care of us from the beginning we walked through the door. The food here was the best I had on my trip in Louisiana and made with the most love. Southern hospitality at its finest! Don’t judge by the looks. They are a must visit if near Baton Rouge airport. When they found out that we were from out of town, they kept bringing food out for us to try at no cost. The seafood ettoufee and the lama bean soup had complex flavors and heavenly!

Definitely worth the visit. Great food, fair prices and friendly staff. I will definitely go back.

100% will be visiting this place again. Too many options to only go once when the food I had was as good as it was.
