1. I made a reservation over two weeks in advance for a table outside on the covered porch. When we arrived, we were taken to an inside table. I told the hostess that I made a reservation for an outside table and was told that isn’t guaranteed and I couldn’t be accommodated. If this is the case, why is it an option rather than a request when making a reservation online? The weather was fine and there were others seated on the porch so I was a bit perplexed and disappointed. 2. The wait staff was nice but they’re very young and inexperienced and it shows. 3. The food was good not great and our dishes came out safety hazard temperature hot. 4. They have a large beer/wine/cocktail selection. I ordered a beer which I assumed would be on draft because it doesn’t clarify otherwise on the menu. Everything is in a bottle or can, just to be aware. All these things that could be seen as minor added up to a subpar experience for us.

We had a celebratory dinner at Buck's and, on the whole, it was a very pleasant evening. The food was good and the decor was pleasant. One observation--when we made the reservation, I was asked if it was a special occasion, and I told them that it was my wife's birthday. However, nothing out of the ordinary happened during the dinner which made me wonder why we were asked in the first place.

Arrive by boat or car, you’ll be graciously greeted & seated surrounded by the owner Fred’s vibrant personal art collection. Wine by the glass was limited but one can select a bottle from the extensive list of varietals. The white onion & leek soup & truffle oil was a palate pleasing starter. Chef LeBreton & his sous chef came table-side 2 describe how he prepared the evening special of Halibut, filleted from a 180 pound fish he personally caught in Penobscot Bay. Then, he invited us to see the kitchen where he works his magic. Book now for a culinary treat inside this now open restaurant in Brooksville.

We just came home from our best dinner out ever! We had lobster bisque, halibut Wellington, lobster au gratin, and raspberry cheesecake. The Haddock Wellington was superb as 5 of us agreed. The sixth said the Lobster gratin was excellent (and did not offer anyone a bite.) The different salads were delicious. Although this was only the third night since opening for the season, the service was as politely unobtrusive and timely. Special requests for table and to turn down music were accommodated pleasantly. The acoustics are amenable to conversation since carpet was installed and maybe other changes made as well. We stopped in this beautiful harbor and got reservations before arriving. Fortunately we thought to dress up a little more than our sailing attire. Glad we did fir this elegant restaurant. The mussels were fresh and spicy, the best we had in Maine. The lobster au gratin was creamy, subtle delicious and did not cover the taste of the lobster. We have enjoyed a number of meals at Buck's in the past few years and have been terribly remiss in not posting a review sooner. Without exception, our meals have been absolutely fantastic. Prepared and served beautifully in a lovely dining room with choice local artists represented, the meals are prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Buck's has a great bar, a deep winelist and some fun cocktails. As you approach the physical restaurant down a bluestone walk planted with herbs, you will find a delightful oyster bar with our favorite Taunton Bays and other local oysters. Tying it all together is the staff. Without exception, the service is, to my taste, just perfect. From your welcome as you pass the raw bar, to the hostess, wait staff and bar tender you will experience an amiable and attentive professionalism. No condescending personnel here! Finally, in an age when upscale classic and wannabe restaurants are tripping over themselves to get your business, the owner, Fred, and his chef, Phil are busy here in Brooksville keeping the art of the restaurateur alive and well.

12 of us did a family reunion. Everyone enjoyed their meal. My foster child ate everything I did and loved it. She’s only two years old. The chef came out and was impressed at what she was eating. While we were enjoying our second honeymoon trip (60 Yrs) to Maine we dined at Bucks. Over the years, my wife and I have enjoyed a fine meal in our hometown of Manhattan NYC, In Soho, the Village, on the upper east side, Northern CA, Burbank CA, and Paris. To our surprise, none of these was better than the evening spent at BUCK'S in Brookville ME The staff was very attentive and the ambiance was modern and pleasant. Most importantly the menu was amply supplied with various dishes. The food was absolutely wonderful. Our only complaint that it that is too far from our present location in The Berkshires.

From time to time one finds a restaurant that not only exceeds expectations but also surprises in terms of the quality of the food, and the enjoyment of the dining experience. My partner and I chose Buck's expecting it to be rustic but wholesome seafood, and specifically because they advertised a raw bar (I did not see a raw bar but certainly did not miss it). I had the best salmon tartare I have ever had, and tenderloin medallions that were as well seasoned as they were cooked. Delicious. She had the Chicken Statler - again, outstanding. Reasonable prices, well portioned, well priced. Highly recommended!

Buck’s is new to us — we decided to try it while on our annual week on Deer Isle. Brooksville is a short drive from the island. First, the hostess was particularly gracious. Second, the waitstaff, while training some newbies, was efficient and helpful. Finally, the food — wow. Two kinds of salmon — cold-smoked and “cooked” in lime juice — were mixed then mounded over avocado. Ooh. The other appetizer we tried, crab cakes, were spicy and free of excessive breading. Very different entrees were excellent. Thick spaghetti with puttanesca sauce and lobster was very tasty. The tenderloin was amazingly tender (medium rare). The truffled mashed potatoes were rich and the gravy was extraordinarily delicious. We split flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Pure heaven.

We recently attended an opening dinner of the season after a long pandemic closure to in-restaurant dining. We had wonderful dinners (chicken picatta and salmon) - the new chefs, Phil and Katherine have maintained the very high standards set by the previous chef, Jonathan. Excellent menu and wine/beer list. The ambience was great (newly renovated and quiet), and the young wait staff was pleasant, attentive and accurate. Their inexperience, which will of course lessen over time, was made up for by their friendliness and willingness to help each other. This remains one of our favorite restaurants in the area, and we look forward to returning often.

We visited this restaurant twice in a two week period with very different impressions. The first visit was excellent and led to a second; the second was pretty ordinary. We were there with early dinner reservations for 4 adults and 2 kids. From the pasta to the tenderloin (my son said it was the best steak he had ever eaten) to the Statler chicken and crab cakes, it was a memorable meal. Luckily we also saved room for dessert. My wife had the blueberry pie a la mode, my son and I shared a panna cotta, and the two kids shared chocolate mousse that was so huge and so delicious we all ended up sharing it! Servers were very pleasant. The setting is one any fan of RJ McCluskey would enjoy.

We had to drive nearly 30 minutes to get to Bucks, but it was worth it! The menu was great.. I had rabbit with a delicious Italian sausage accompaniment that was simply perfect! My group had pasta with shrimp, hanger steak, and the pork chop. All of these were delicious. We had a Simi Chardonnay which was excellent and reasonable priced. Frankly, the entire menu was creative and enticing. South Brooksville (Bucks Harbor) is off the beaten track, but visiting sailors and folks from Blue Hill to Deer Isle are lucky that Bucks is open. This has been and still is one of the most outstanding restaurants in the area. The location at Bucks Harbor in South Brooksville is out of the way but well worth a drive down the scenic Coastal Road. The short walkway past plantings of herbs and flowers and the Peter Beerits sculpture of a life sized couple sitting down to dinner sets the mood. There was a young man shucking clams and oysters at a shiny metal serving cart in the alleyway which further whet our appetite. The décor inside is subdued and elegant with high ceilings, art works on the walls and earth colors. The servers are in dark uniforms and are pleasant, professional and always ready to welcome us and make sure we are well taken care of. Every little detail has been well thought out and adds to the experience. There is a nice wine list and some innovative and delicious cocktails. I had a "3 Sheets to The Wind" which was plenty large and strong with an allspice flavor which was a pleasant surprise. The other choices were equally different and sounded delicious. They had no sparkling wine by the glass which was a little disappointing. The bread service included some nice sweet corn muffins with pieces of corn and some chewy yeasty squares of very good sour dough bread sprinkled with a lot of sea salt. The menu seems largely unchanged from last year which is to say it is short and well imagined. Sadly not all the food was just as perfect as I remembered from previous years. The gazpacho had too many raw onions which overpowered the dish. Grilled Shrimp Spiedini on the other hand was just about perfect, grilled shrimp skewered with basil, tomatoes and Mozzarella with a nice olive oil and balsamic dressing, like a Capresse salad on a skewer. The Acadian Jambalaya was tasty with sausage and seafood but was just much too salty for my taste. Again, I do not recall it being so salty last year. The Pollock was terrific as were the deserts. Prices were rather high. The oysters were fresh and tasty with a nice mignonette and a red cocktail sauce but at $2.50 a piece I could not bring myself to order too many. Drinks were $12. Over all, a great restaurant that just missed being 5 stars by some small slips.

Tucked away in tiny Bucks Harbor is this gem that was created by Chef Jonathon Chase. Not pretentious, just great food using fresh local ingredients. I was surprised to see all that they had - from fresh fish and meats to local produce, and reasonable prices. The reasonable and fresh selection is probably driven by its connection to the restaurant in the same building which is good as well.
