What an amazing experience. We walked in with no resi but somehow we managed and the owners let us stay. (Strongly recommend a reservation). Janusz and his wife Sylvana are very kind people. They were busy with prepping dinner for a larger group but still provided exceptional hospitality for us. We didn't experience the full menu because we didn't have resi but got a sausage sampler with homemade sour kraut, smoked ribs and potato salad. Everything was perfect. The whole place has a lot of history, antiques are everywhere.We will definitely comeback for a full dinner next time. Dziękujemy!!!

Warm, cozy, interesting owners. And FABULOUS food!!!

Sylvana and Janusz served an exceptional and genuine German meal tonight for our party of six. Everyone raved about their soups (our group had three: carrot, onion and cabbage). Beef rouladen; beef stroganoff with spaetzle; veal and chicken schnitzels were excellent entrees, and the sides were nice complements—especially the potato dumplings. The desserts—apple strudel, a marzipan cake, Black Forest cake, and a chocolate mousse cake were a perfect end to the meal. I almost hesitate to write this because the three tables at this private restaurant are almost always booked well in advance, and it’s now our group’s favorite area restaurant. Thanks Sylvana and Janusz for a wonderful—und echte Deutsche—family dining experience!

More than just food; it is an experience. Everything was perfect, and our hosts were amazing as their food and service.

Delicious homemade food served in eclectic atmosphere. Family run place. There are only three or four tables here and you definitely need to make reservations in advance. You cannot just walk in here. Truly unique experience! Delicious German food. BYOB!

Janus and his wife were great hosts and very personable. Food was very very tasty in a very grandma style setting. The bread, German sourdough was delicious. Definitely recommend the snitzel and the potato salad! The antique stor where the restaurant is located at is great too. Will definitely come back with a larger crowd.

A restaurant full of history. Incredibly fun to walk through antique shop, fascinating treasures, interesting artwork, each room had a unique flavor and ambiance. Now, the food... Great authentic German cuisine experience. Pretzel-like bread was especially delicious. Great variety of different schnitzel and German meats. Didn't order and beer, but many different options available. Fresh and made right there in the adjoining kitchen to dining area. Feels intimate and as if you're enjoying a home cooked meal. Special recognition to the experience and atmosphere. Owners are great hosts and make you feel like family.

I truly have no words to accurately explain how wonderful this place is. I’m in my forties and this is the first time in my life I left a restaurant smiling from the inside out. I am home now two hours later writing this review and still smiling. It’s something you have to experience for yourself.

No where on the website does it say reservations only. When we got there basically what we got was a rude " what do you want". I don't think I will be back.

Had a wonderful time at Der Jaeger on Friday night! To merely call it dinner would do the whole experience a disservice. To set the scene - think of the most wonderful and fresh German/Central European food and combine that with a fascinating antique shop (set-up across multiple rooms) and a warmly informal atmosphere and you'll have something of an idea of what to expect. First we ordered - be sure to ask what beers are available - then we wandered the antique shop while our food was made fresh-to-order. We had - the Sausage Sampler (grilled fresh with a great sauerkraut), pork schnitzel, beef rouladen, potato dumplings, spaetzle, and cucumber salad (with chocolate mousse for dessert). Stand-outs for me were the pork schnitzel and cucumber salad, but everything was super fresh and delicious. And the atmosphere was so fun - we enjoyed ourselves immensely and are already planning the dishes to get again/try next time! Pro tips - make sure to call for a reservation! Check out the bathroom as well - lots of fun items in there too! Be sure to arrive with a hearty appetite and sense of humor and you will have a fabulous time! Thank you Sylvana and Janusz!

I might be biased here because I absolutely love German food and my wife is German. All the times we’ve come here, never had anything we did not like. The atmosphere here a special, the museum adds a touch of history, and Janus will tell you all about every single piece. Silvana cooks the meals to order with greatest of flavor. The friendly conversation( German and English) and seeing something new each visit in the museum makes this place special to us. We’ll always be return customers. Thank you so much!

Such a beautiful place. Coming from a cool, the food is absolutely spectacular. The taste and all the details that go into the food is unmatched. What an absolute gem. The owners, Sylvana and Janusz are the best combo, and will make you wish you were their child! Love love the entire experience of dining here. The most memorable, unique, an delicious dinner we’ve ever had, seriously! We stumbled upon Der jaeger by complete accident. We had no idea it was a husband wife team with the most amazing 3 table restaurant (reservation only!) antique shop combo with German food to die for - all prepared by the wife in the kitchen which you can see from your table. As we waited for our meal, we explored the antique shop. The entire house, including the upstairs and every room is full of amazing things. You can probably spend all night browsing but we had food to eat! We went crazy and ordered 3 entrees and 4 sides for 2 people and everything was out of this world good. Absolutely delicious. I can’t believe this place has been up the road from our home for years. We can not wait to go back and will be bringing family with us next time. If you’re looking for a comfortable, truly homemade, absolutely delicious, super unique dining experience, go! What an absolute hidden gem.

OMG! Talk about a wonderful experience! The food is incredible and the owners, even more-so. It feels like you’re having dinner with the German family you didn’t know you had. You are absolutely not rushed. The food takes some time but it gives you the opportunity to explore all the antiques in the building. Talk about an incredible collection. Overall, the food is amazing and the experience was nothing less than awesome. You will miss out if you never get the chance to try Der Jäger. Make sure to make a reservation in advanced! It’s nearly impossible to do a walk-in!

We called very last minute for a reservation and to our surprise they had a table available. Drinks (he was hand picked a german beer and i was given the most robust and sweet raspberry wine), bread (ohhhh the bread basket included themes pretzel like bun that is to DIE FOR and dinner ( absolutely everything about dinner was spectacular, way too much to detail),were absolutely delicious. We were invited to walk around and look at all of the antiques while waiting for our dinners to be prepared. So glad we did as it was fascinating to see room after room of beautiful antiques. This was an enjoyable experience from start to finish. Dinner and drinks were again absolutely delicious and we are looking forward to going again, perhaps getting dessert next time. Amazing find with fantastic people in the middle of nowhere.

After owning a home nearby for sixteen years we finally found this hidden gem of a restaurant tucked away in an antiques store. This is the second time we have eaten in this unique place in three weeks, this time dining with my out-of-town family. Reservations are a must because everything is cooked to order by Sylvana, the owner and trained chef. Janusz, her husband handles the outdoor barbecue end of things and Joe, our server was patient with our questions and a great guy. Eating here is like having dinner in their home. Their personal attention, warm personalities and attention to detail are unparalleled. They love what they do and it is obvious. The menu does not have prices but that’s not a problem as dinner is reasonable especially considering the size of the portions. Sylvana sets the prices based on the size of the portions and the size of the cuts of meat. Very fair. After ordering, take your wine (it’s a BYOB) and explore the store that is packed with art, WW2 artifacts and other antiques. There is no place like it ANYWHERE! Things that we loved included schnitzels (better than we had in Austria), warm potato salad, spaetzel pork smoked pork chop. Don’t miss the sausage sampler but bring your appetite. Fresh breads accompany your meal. These are great people who put their heart and soul into serving their customers. They enjoy a great conversation which made us feel more like friends rather than strangers. Can’t wait to get back there to visit them again. - Bert

Have to agree with the other reviews in that this place is magical! The owners were both so very kind and accommodating. We went there for my birthday and had a fantastic time. It is byob so they brought us some glasses and we walked around the historical house checking out all the art work. We ordered the sausage sampler and the food was incredible! It feels like your in Europe so enjoy your time there and the experience. If your looking for fast food and to be in and out this is not your place. If you want an authentic European style dinner with great people, energy, and thoughtfulness, this is your spot. We were also surprised with a free birthday liquor after our meal and when we got our bill it was so very affordable. They could charge a lot more if they wanted. They accept credit cards as well. Quaint is putting it mildly. They have two small tables for four. And one large table for six/ to eight. Reservations a must. Food is quite good, and very German. It can be fairly expensive. And don't be in a hurry!

Phenomenal dining experience from beginning to end! The atmosphere makes you feel like you're at a neighbor's or friend's house for dinner, and the food is absolutely top notch! Can't wait to come back!!!

This was the best German food I've ever eaten! It's a very unique dining experience. The owners and cook are very intimate and you feel like they are just cooking for you. (Which they are) They cook for one group at a time. The pace is much slower just like it is over in Europe. Enjoy your time and fellowship before your meal. When it comes, you will enjoy it!!! This place is amazing!!! Its better German Food then any fancy Philadelphian restaurant! -Bravo

I had a friend from work recommend this place to me. He said it was great so I gave it a try. Definitely the best German food I've ever had. If your on the fence about going make the reservation. U won't be disappointed.

Incredible experience. We went for my sister in laws birthday and I’ve told everyone I’ve seen since I’ve left. The meal takes a reasonable about of time to make (because they make it all from scratch), but it was more than worth the wait. I was expecting the bill to be double of what it was because of how authentic it was and the fact no one finished everything. The staff makes you feel like family with conversation and the like. If you’re looking for a quick meal and are going to complain about prices (they’re not listed on menu) and how long the wait is, save yourself and the wonderful staff some time and go to Applebees or something of the sort. If you’re looking for an experience with German cuisine and an amazing staff, this is certainly for you. Enjoy!!

Had a lovely dinner here with friends on 10/30. Food was very good. Atmosphere beautiful, lots to see. Owners were very welcoming. Was not happy that there were no prices on the menu. And the "family style" sides were very small.

Wow just wow. You have to make a reservation only 3 tables. But the food is amazing. The owner is German and makes the food. I had smoked pork chop in German Kassler. Then we had sides we shared German patato salad cucumber salad red cabbage dumplings creamed spinach beets (not my thing) drinks 2 orders of sauerbraten. The two people I were with had soup drinks everything is freshly made. So much food 145.00. It's not your typical restaurant it is set in a little antique shop where you can shop in there all kinds of antiques. Little outside patio but the owner Cooks everything. But you need to make reservations just a great overall dining experience. If you love German food this is a must

When we come to Der Jaeger it like visiting family. Great place! Wonderful family owned Restaurant and Antique Shop. Truly Unique. Great atmosphere, Amazing home made food. Its not "Fast Food" and takes some time to be prepared to your liking, so just hang out and relax. Everything is made fresh and from scratch. Call in advance because this small place gets booked very fast. Highly Recommended!

Just had an amazing authentic German meal at Der Jaeger! We chatted with the owners and learned the history of the building. Good food and fun conversation! Looking forward to going back to sample some other dishes.

Owners are fun. Great stories. The food is excellent! This is a former brothel (upstairs) /(tavern) back in the day the owner explained. It was like sitting in a restaurant in Germany again which I have done. FUN! JOHN F

We went as a group of 7, all had a great time. The food matched its reputation. Very authentic German fare. The waiter (husband) was very personable and engaging...wife and friend (cooks) came and chatted as well. Some interesting antiques as well as it is an antique store as well as a restaurant. Will definitely return. No alcoholic beverages...it is a BYOB for those wondering.

This place is awesome! The Staff was so friendly. Accommodated us by last minute changing our reservation!! The Food is very very good and is German Food! We recommend this place to anyone!!

A wonderfully scrumptious authentic German meal prepared and served by the owners themselves! We were not entirely sure what everything was on the menu. We told her we were open to anything and she prepared the most delectable German dishes for us! The bill was less than $55 for the night. BYOB was a great bonus too! Highly recommend this out-of-the-way treasure!

Amazing home cooked German food in a ecliptic setting that is absolutely one of a kind. I wish there were more places like this everywhere.

We had Der Jaeger cater an event at the Poconos axe throwing and we could not have been more satisfied. The food was rich and warm, not just in temperature but also clearly in love and care. The owners and staff made sure our group was well attended too and had an incredible rapport with everyone and were super friendly. These guys are the best food we had in the Poconos you will not regret having them cater your event, simply incredible!

Not only is the food amazing but the staff is just as amazing! It was our second time here and it did not disappoint ! Can't wait to go back! If your looking for a cozy place to eat Der Jaeger is your spot!

Best restaurant in north east Pennsylvania. Amazing home cooked meal. You do need a reservation.

Food was good and it's nice to see the person actually making your food. Service wasn't great. It took over an hour to get our meals, and that's with no appetizer and only one other table of 4 people in the restaurant. We received one drink each and were never asked if we wanted refills.

This German restaurant/antique shop both has amazing food and interesting antiques. I ordered the pork schnitzel and it knocked my socks off. 5 stars I would recommend to anyone.

Was Camping at Promise Land State Park in Pa and did a quick search for restaurants near the park and Der Jaeger popped up. I am so glad that this little gem came to my attention as they only have 3 tables and can handle a large group. Reservations are required,, The food was amazing and the hosts were amazing as well. We will be returning in the fall to try something different on the menu which I am sure will be amazing as well.

Delicious authentic food made in a cozy restaurant/antique store!

Great food, great owners, great experience.

I have been eating here either at the bbq outside or inside for many years. The food is authentic German, the owners both worked at another German restaurant before opening their own place. The owners are both friendly and we one you. The decor is part of their antiques business and adds to the ambience. All the delicious meals are home made and prepared to order, it’s Not to be missed if you are local or visiting Lake Wallenpaupack. Make a reservation keep in mind it’s not your typical walk in dine rush out place. Be sure to bring your own wine or German beer!

We had a reservation for dinner and the owners greeted us right away. My Dad started browsing at their eclectic antiques and we were just conversing with the owners before we chose our food. Extremely helpful with any questions you may have on their menu and they make great recommendations. The wurst sample was unreal, grilled by one of the owners just prior to serving. The ribs are smoked and delicious. It felt/tasted like a home cooked meal my grandma would make on the weekends. Owners sat down and talked a bit to get to know us (not like intruding, just good conversation) Father bought a couple things from the antique side of things, that have a great variety of collectibles. Will definitely be back! Thanks for a great experience!

The food is amazing. Its like eating in your on dining room. It's very intimate. The owners are there xooking and taking your order. They make sure you have everything you need. There is also a Museum up stairs.

Absolutely the best people and great food. Brats were great, half rack of ribs is a big meal. Sides were excellent along with homemade deserts. Wish I could go every night.

One of the most unique dining experiences we have ever had. Joe and I were greeted by two friendly amazing people who right away asked us about ourselves. We never felt like we were in a restaurant we felt like we were invited into their home and cook for by friends. The food was incredible. But the experience alone was unforgettable. We can't wait to go back with our friends and family so they can share this incredible experience.

It took us by complete surprise … At first, we made a reservation and expected to have a dinner. Sounds very much familiar. All that changed, as soon as we walked-in and, 3-4 hours later, the feeling was like we had a fun game night with old friends (you can actually play chess there, quite marvelous set by itself), play piano, accordion, and probably more, if there would be more time) … the night was full of great stories and conversations, amazing wander through the antique treasures … and, of course, delicious home-made German food, served in unique home-style setting. The hosts’ warmth and welcome felt nothing less, but we are part of the family. Totally unmatched experience in today’s dining out world. If you are in the area, don’t miss it.

A true treasure. This is authentic German food and the owners are fantastic hosts! Be prepared to stay awhile and talk to the locals who frequent Der Jaeger regularly. They add to the unique experience ! You can browse many paintings and lot's of antiques. For history buffs you can see many WWII items. Bring your wine and remember to make reservations!
