I'd give 10 stars if I could!! Placed an online order, then called the store to make sure all was good. The lady was very polite and professional, we went through the order together, and she was very precise with the details. She even recommended candles to match the cake. The cake was delivered on time, very well packed. It was very beautiful and tasty!! My daughter and her friends loved it! Honestly, I was sceptical about the taste, but my daughter ( very picky) was very happy. Thanks for the great service! Highly recommend! 💯❤️

We ordered a cake for my sisters baby shower and every aspect of it was wonderful. It was so easy to order and customize with the Dessert Works team. Also, my sister can’t do gluten. Over the years we’ve ordered other gluten free products from other bakeries to mixed results, but the gluten free chocolate cake with chocolate mousse inside was SO GOOD (and indistinguishable from non gluten free cake). We had tons of compliments on it, and won’t think twice about where to get a big special event cake next time it comes up!

We have gotten several cakes and cupcakes from here, and they have never disappoint. The employees are so pleasant! Our most recent cake was our wedding cake, and they definitely nailed it!!

Came in to get a flour-less chocolate cake for my husband's birthday. The cake was elegantly decorated and they did some lovely script on top for me. The cake was incredible, and my husband was super happy. Will go back 10/10

I ordered a cake for our recent baby shower. The cake was AMAZING! It looked too pretty to eat. My guests raved about the cake! We had 2 tiers and chose 2 different flavors. The cake was absolutely delicious.... light, moist, tasty and not too sweet. Dessert Works is our go to bakery. I highly recommend them for any event!

For my sons birthday I ordered a dozen half chocolate and half vanilla Elmo cupcakes, I ended up getting a dozen vanilla cupcakes. The amazing staff at dessert works immediately addressed the situation and baked a dozen chocolate only cupcakes and hand delivered them same day!!!!! I was so happy and couldn’t believe they went through all of that. I told all my friends and family and I will be going back to dessert works Westwood for future parties and events. I realize that this is a year late, but honestly, it still frustrates me. About a year ago, I bought a cake for my daughter’s second birthday. I waited till the last a day or two before to order it and asked for a blue and orange cake (Blippi colors). I ordered a simple cake - no designs, and 8 inches round. My issue was with the price. For an 8 in blue cake, I spent $80. When I took the cake out my family was completely underwhelmed and shocked at how expensive it was considering how small it was and the lack of design. I honestly felt like had I waited and bought a cake off the shelf that day, I would’ve gotten a simple cake still, though not blue, and for half the price. On top of that no one thought the cake was anything to rave about flavor wise. It was extremely disappointing. I know I’m posting a year later but honestly the only good it would’ve done for me back then was to get a portion of my money back. All in all it was extremely overpriced and the flavor was not impressive.

Got and anniversary cake here, the French vanilla buttercream with mousse filling , they told me leave out for 3 hours before serving ? Never had to do with other cakes ,but I did and not only was the cake room temp it was so gross like I was eating butter from the stick had no flavor at all ,just pretty decor and I am not a fan of fancy no taste cakes so If you like a pretty cake but don’t care about the taste get it here but if you actually want to eat the cake don’t a BJs cake would have tasted better ! 🤬! live & learn

*PLEASE READ REPLY TO BUSINESS AT THE BOTTOM* I was told by the owner to “try one of those other places next time” when thinking about ordering my custom cake here. If that’s not terrible customer service then I don’t know what is. Context, I ordered my sons 1st birthday cake with specific details in which they messed up. They blame their software company for glitching even though I came into store (over a month in advance) in person to pay and talk about my order in detail in which notes were taken pen to paper and put into a physical folder. The cake was presented incorrectly as the decoration was not as ordered. They tried to rectify as best they could but it was definitely not like what I had ordered. I was left with no choice but to take the cake giving the party was just an hour and a half out. After speaking with the owner I was asked “is the cake not even worth $50?” considering this was a 6” cake that I paid over $100 for initially. I said no because this was not what I had originally ordered and the adjustments made to it last minute made it look messy and just not what I had wanted. After explaining this and that fact that I was left no time to get a replacement the owner was reluctant to finally offer me a full refund but basically told me to not shop there again in the future. I have been left in tears by this awful service after being a customer of Dessert Works for so long and trusting them with my sons first birthday cake. An apology and a refund would’ve kept me as a customer but clearly money is more important than loyalty and customer service to this company. Think twice before placing your order here. I’d hate for you to be in my shoes. REPLY TO RESPONSE FROM DESSERT WORKS: 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 If customers are more important to you why would you expect me to be left without a cake for my event in order to justify, in your eyes, a full refund? How is that keeping your customer happy? Please explain that…You left me with 1 hour 30mins until the party and you expected me to leave the cake and be left with absolutely nothing in order to get my money back? So crazy! To add insult to injury you spoke to me with such rudeness telling me to shop elsewhere. I was calm and completely honest and you chose to be passive aggressive which to me is very unprofessional. I still did not rise to this and accepted my full refund and politely said goodbye. I’m not sure how this qualifies as a way of speaking to be told to shop elsewhere? Clearly honesty especially when it is negative is not accepted here. Instead of asking me “is that not worth anything to you?” you could’ve come to me with an apology and an offer of what you could do to put things right but instead you kept trying to explain and justify all of the reasons why you under delivered instead of trying to make amends. I was on the phone with you a good 5 minutes and you never once offered me anything in compensation and then said “now I’ll let you speak”. Not sure this service could’ve been any worse and now to try and clutch at your reputation you are trying to make me out, your once loyal customer, to be someone I’m not. I just can’t believe after reducing me to tears you are still going at me like this is my fault. I ordered a product and you did not deliver. End of story. Please please anyone reading this be so careful when entrusting this company with your orders and particularly if you expect excellent customer service that they “uphold” themselves to because I got none of the above and have been left in tears by this absolutely gutting and just awful experience.

We got our wedding cake here and it was great! Ashley was very responsive and attentive, and so easy to work with. We live out of state but I grew up around their old location so remembered it from childhood special celebrations. They worked with our limited in-person schedule really well. It was also more affordable than other bakeries in the Boston area. Delivery and set up was only $50 which seemed very reasonable. Pricing was always transparent. The cake came out exactly as discussed and we and our guests loved it. We went with two flavors: Boston Creme and Chocolate with Raspberry filling. Both were delicious and we couldn't pick a favorite. And the mini honeymoon cake was adorable. Thank you so much!

Dessert Works was very easy to work with for our wedding cake. We were able to take home a cake tasting and try cakes and buttercream in the comfort of our own home. They were very easy to communicate with following the tasting and very quickly came up with a design for us based on what we wanted. The cake looked and tasted perfect on the wedding day and they even sent us home with a miniature replica of our cake to have for our one year anniversary!

Got 10 dinosaur cookies and a birthday cake. The cake was exquisitely decorated and the cake's texture Mhmmmm! was smooth and creamy I didn't know about Dessert Works, had gone to Mazda IRA to service my car then voila'! I saw this place.

Congratulations, anyone who is looking for a wedding bakery, you've found the best one! I've been described by HR professionals as "a bag of allergies," and Dessert Works not only went above and beyond with the cakes and pastries for my wedding last April, they made some of the BEST desserts I have ever had; the fudgiest possible brownies, individual Boston cream pies, the zestiest lemon bars, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! And the cakes were GORGEOUS! Special shout out to Ashley, who was professional, patient, extremely responsive, and detail-oriented with the cakes and pastries. She's a gem! I will absolutely be ordering from them in the future, as they are more than worth the drive from Cambridge and back.

We are grateful to Dessert Works for their loving care of our wedding cake. Honestly the cake was an afterthought to us when we started planning our wedding, to the point that we had decided not to have one. We chose the Lenox Hotel as our wedding venue (also gets top marks, btw). The Lenox partners with Dessert Works for wedding cakes, which is an early indicator of the quality product and service you're getting from the latter. But even so, we initially opted to exclude the cake from our wedding package. Wrong idea. We finally got around to looking at Dessert Works' website and when we saw their enticing list of flavors, our mouths started watering. We followed up with the Lenox and said hey, we DO want the cake. We got to work with Ashley at Dessert Works. Her warmth and kindness over emails and calls did not go unnoticed. She made it clear that our big day was special for Dessert Works too. And she made the process easy as could be, from intake to the final call to confirm the guest count. We were super excited for the cake tasting. Dessert Works gives you their 6 most popular flavors to sample, with the option to add flavors for a small fee. We got 8 flavors which proved more than we needed! We couldn't do the tasting at the bakery, because we were coming from out of town and were on a tight schedule, but Dessert Works made it easy to do our tasting to-go. They packaged all the cake slices into a neat box, each slice wrapped in plastic, with a container of their American and Italian buttercreams on the side. And because neither of us had time to pick it up ourselves, Dessert Works kindly let my mother-in-law pick it up for us. She reported back that the service was great. We chose a combination of their Chocolate Mousse and Vanilla Chocolate. Both have chocolate mousse, of which I am a huge fan. The mousse is delicious, but not too rich. The cake is moist, and not overly sweet. The lightness of the vanilla cake and the density of the chocolate cake provide nice balance. We had an extravaganza doing a self-led cake tasting with the matron of honor - herself a chocolate lover who affirmed that the mousse was the right choice. From there, Dessert Works kept things moving without ever stressing us out. For the cake design, they sent us a photo gallery of past designs as inspiration. We quickly latched on to an elegant yet simple design of lotus branches with pretty red and pink flowers. We had a video call with Ashley and filled out a comprehensive questionnaire that further improved the experience. And that was all we needed to do for cake planning. On the day of, our 3-tier cake exceeded our expectations. Delivery and setup were so seamless, we had no idea it was happening. We didn't think about the cake until we walked in for our reception, and there it was, sitting majestically atop a table. It was DEFINITELY more beautiful in person than in photos. We wish we had more time to admire it. And how did the cake taste that day? Delicious. I had a slice of the Chocolate Mousse to end the night, and it was the best piece of chocolate cake I've had in a long time. Oh, and that tradition of saving a slice of the cake for your anniversary? Dessert Works takes that to the next level with their "honeymoon cake," a beautifully packaged mini version of the wedding cake. It was the cherry on top. We are thrilled with what Dessert Works gave us: A terrific cake created by terrific people. It's funny, we never got to meet any of them in person, so we'll just have to stop by the bakery in Westwood on our next trip to Beantown.

They skillfully applied our florists' flowers to the cake to match the aesthetic of the rest of the wedding. It looked absolutely gorgeous. The Lemon Summer Berry cake is the perfect flavor for summer! We just celebrated my fiancee's birthday this weekend with a specialty design, and his reaction when seeing the cake was priceless! I have ordered a few cakes from DW and they have always tasted great, and the designs are amazing. Their staff is very friendly and helpful. I will be getting my wedding cake from DW this fall, and I am already looking for other excuses to celebrate with cake because I can't wait that long. I love Dessert Works!

We ordered a child’s birthday cake on short notice. The team created a beautiful cake and it was utterly delicious. The cake filling was light and fluffy, and was not overwhelmingly sweet like cakes often are. They have our business from now on!

We worked with the team at Dessert Works on our wedding cakes - the first for our small Covid-impacted wedding and second for our larger, rescheduled reception. They were awesome to work with both times. My husband has a lot of allergies and intolerances, so it was amazing to find a bakery that could accommodate these while also tasting delicious. When we had our original tasting experience in 2019, the treatment we encountered was the best we had - something as simple as being offered water during our tasting stood out to us. They were also wonderful to work with throughout our reschedules and our final wedding cake was exactly what we hoped for. They do really beautiful work and are fairly priced - we also loved the fact that we got a mini-version of our wedding cake for our anniversary!

It was my mom's birthday and I called ahead of time to see if we needed to order a certain cake and I was told no that I could come in the store and get it the day that I went to go get it the young lady at the front (who was very nice) told me that that certain cake needed to be ordered 4 days before me purchasing I said OK plan B but that cake also needed to order that cake 4 days before so I was really upset because that was the reason why I called ahead of time to ask. Ended up getting a cake that they had on display my mom did not enjoy the cake. The cake was very dry and the buttercream was very thick it felt like we were eating butter 🧈

I went to get some of the desserts pictured in the case on a Sunday. I dont know if the cakes were stale or just bad but the carrot cake is really what I had a problem with. It was terrible. 1. The actual cake part was crusty, not fluffy, and crumbled off. Also a carrot cake is supposed to have nuts. 2. There was too much frosting and not enough cake. The frosting was so terrible. There was no cream cheese. A carrot cake is not a carrot cake w butter cream frosting. Also the frosting was just bad for a frosting in general. Almost all butter and lacking on dairy or other liquid ingredients. The chocolate mouse cake had a frosting that broke off like a somewhat hard fondant. I wasnt a fan. If you go just for the pieces, I recommend the strawberry roulade and that only.

The cake I had at my wedding was beyond delicious. Dessert Works knows how to make a cake and I highly recommend getting their cake for any occasion. We will be back for more desserts from them.

Finally a bakery with real gluten free options! And the flourless chocolate cake was DELICIOUS!!!! Thick and delicious. The lime pie was ok, but the chocolate cake made up for it. The customer service was also great, and there is easy parking because it is located inside a small plaza.

This store is interesting. The desserts look mouth watering but they hit my palette a little differently than I expected. The treats have a more muted level of sweetness which I guess is good if you don't like your desserts super sweet. I would consider their offerings refined, but definitely taste test before ordering a bunch of things for an event if you like things to be sweeter and more sugary. I can appreciate this style of baking in spite of the fact I like a stronger level of sweet/sugar. Items are pricey but, I can justify paying a premium because everything is of beautiful quality.

We actually ate it before it made it to the freezer LOL :-D We buy another cake from DessertWorks on our anniversary next year to celebrate. Please keep in mind that we worked with DessertWorks throughout covid. They were always nice and created a gorgeous cake for us, depending their stress as well. Made an inquiry on 3/8/2021 regarding a wedding cake tasting. I was responded to on 3/12/2021 and was provided information about their wedding cakes. I emailed back that same day stating that all information sounded great and that I would like to move forward with the tasting and asked to schedule a pick up date. On 3/16/2021 I was responded to; the staff member, Ashley, apologized that they were under staffed and had not yet been able to set up a tasting and I was told I would be contacted either that day or the following day with a pick up date. I emailed back stating that I completely understand, not to worry, and that I looked forward to hearing from them. Fast forward to 3/29/2021, I still had not heard anything and sent an additional email stating that I just wanted to follow up about scheduling the tasting. Still nothing in response. I completely understand that they are understaffed at this time, but almost a month just trying to schedule a day for me to come in and pick up tasting slices seems a bit extreme? My fiancé and I were really disappointed too because their cakes look fantastic and the flavor selection was very broad, sad we won’t be able to move forward with them!

This is an updated review. I’d like to start off with how beautiful the cake was that I bought from Dessert Works. Unfortunately, the inside of the cake was a completely different story. I picked the cake that I wanted to get for my boyfriend’s birthday online. (on Dessert Work’s’ website) The website was great, it had many different cakes to choose from, many flavors to choose from, etc. So, since my boyfriend is a 31 year old male, I picked a classic birthday themed cake. I then picked the confetti flavor. When it came to picking the frosting flavor, they only have 3 options: American vanilla buttercream, Italian vanilla buttercream, and chocolate. Not much variety at all. There are definitely a lot of people out there that do not like buttercream frosting. Since those were my only choices, I went with the American vanilla buttercream. The price of the cake was very reasonable and it seemed like a very nice atmosphere when I walked in the bakery to pick up the cake a few days later. Fast forward to when we were celebrating and about to eat the cake- (I said in my previous review that we ate it from the refrigerator, meaning it did not sit out for longer than 2 hours like the sticker on the box had suggested) As soon as I cut the first slice, I noticed the 2 VERY thick layers of frosting on the inside of the cake. Honestly, there was more frosting than there was cake. The confetti flavor of the cake was very good, after having to pick around all of the frosting. The cake was also extremely dry and not moist at all. The top of the cake had a decent layer of frosting, which is normal, but the inside and entire outside of the cake had extremely thick and an unnecessary amount of frosting. In my opinion, it was 40% cake, and 60% frosting. On their website, that is not in this certain cake’s description at all. I didn’t think I would have to call to make sure the cake would be made with more cake than frosting. I suppose that was my mistake? Also, after my boyfriend and I had one slice a piece, we had horrible stomachaches and heartburn. This has never, EVER happened when we have eaten cakes similar to this one in the past. This next part of my review isn’t because of Dessert Works, but due to the global pandemic, purchasing a cake that wasn’t even close to their supposed standards was such a disappointment. The owner replied to my other review, and I called Dessert Works to try to talk to him/her to see if they could make this right and either make us another cake or give me a refund, and I have yet to receive a response. As of right now, I will not be a returning customer, nor will I refer anyone to go to Dessert Works for any kind of purchase. I hope this helps and warns anyone that reads this.

Awesome cake did my wedding cake with Dessert Works in Sept 2018 ...was awesome! ..my guest ate every last crumb...good job guys.. I will use them in the future! Reasonably priced too good customer service..the cake was not too sweet which was excellent for me just a great tasting cake!

Professional and efficient! I called from out-of-state the day before my "friendiversary" and asked Dessert Works what they had in store and if they could deliver it to my friend who lives in the Sharon area. I went with this delightful classic chocolate mousse and my friend and her family LOVED it! (side note: I didn't realize my friend wasn't a buttercream fan but she did tell me that despite that, she still very much enjoyed the cake.) I was told that the cake was very yummy and oh-so-satisfying. Thanks to Dessert Works for the friendly and accommodating service!

The wedding cake and monogrammed cookie favors Dessert Works made for us were truly works of art. They were the talk of our wedding, because they tasted as good as they looked!! A million Thank You’s for adding such a special touch to our special day!

Love this place. We order birthday cakes for our family events. The cakes look and taste amazing. We like whipped cream and mousse, Lemon Summer Berry is our favorite. The flavor is out of this world!

Got the cake to celebrate my daughter's baptism for Dessert Works and they did a great job! The cake was beautiful and the it tasted really good.

The cakes and cupcakes here are spectacular. They are not that overly sweet type that you can find anywhere, but just the right amount. You can tell they don't use artificial sweeteners. Really the best cakes and frostings I've had since my mom baked for me as a kid. And on top of that, they are gorgeous. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I highly recommend Dessert Works! I've been ordering cakes for office birthdays for a few years now and I've loved every flavor I've tried. They are delicious, fresh, and beautiful. The cake makes a simple birthday celebration feel extra special. I've also tried many of the pastries which are equally as tasty. I usually walk in and purchase from what is available and service is always prompt. I can't say enough good things about them!

First and last time customer. Addendum 1/8/19... Ok since you asked for more input... #1 It was a pretty cake. BUT. You didn't create the cake I asked for or "approved". I asked for red, white and blue, like patriotic, to be incooperated. The words "USA" were hand written on the receipt in red pen, but not really incorporated anywhere in the cake unless you count a blue sky above grass, and "Happy Birthday" in red... #2 You didn't create the cake I asked for if I say I'd just like baseball, football, and basketball. Then why was tennis, hockey, soccer, badminton, and cycling added in??? #3 What services are you referring too? I ordered a cake, paid full price, upfront over the phone, picked it up myself days later... The woman I spoke with when placing the order was friendly. When I picked up the cake it took a moment or two before one out of three employees addressed/acknowledged me in an empty bakery... #4 The flavor of the cake is the most important? I always thought customer service was but to each their own.... Honestly the frosting was great. The cake itself was nothing to write home about though in my opinion and the majority of the guests. The cupcake was really good, and in no way involved in the dissatisfaction considering the cake was for the birthday party, not the 2 cupcakes. #5 What sealed the deal for me is when I attempted to call after the fact and just touch base about the whole 1/2 and 1/2. Getting pretty much written off as sorry You Misunderstood and "it is what it is"... Ok, sorry you don't like my review. It is what it is. "I'm sorry you misunderstood" red, white and blue like patriotic; and just baseball football and basketball.

Update: Neither I hung up the phone, nor did I received any call till date, Please stop lying. If you can email me screenshot of 1 call that you made to me *ever* then I will delete this review. Below answer is not the truth. I asked for eggless cake first time too and gave exact details which i gave the second time. First time, I was told by staff that they can absolutely get eggless cake done, I was asked to finalize the design on website and call back, I called back around an hour and second time manager picked up, she was rude and simple denied the request. ------------- Staff is great but Manager is rude, I was going to place custom cake order with staff member 4 days before and I was told that they can take it(i confirmed the details of custom order multiple times in same call). I got the design on their website confirmed and called back after 1 hour to pay. This time manager picked up and she said that her staff misinformed me and they cannot take order lol. I will recommend my family and friends to stay away from this place.

I’ve ordered several cakes and goodies from Dessert works over time when since they were at the old location. The cakes are some of the best even with the high prices however as you can see in these google responses they don’t own up when they make a mistake or the customer isn’t pleased. They need to take a step back at times and realize things do happen. I ordered a roll which was so dry at the ends and the outside we got rid of it. Another time I ordered a cake similar to what they had posted on there page, paid $10+ for the extra flowers then when I got it it was basic stock cake with the flowers centered in the middle. I brought it to there attention and they fixed it but made me feel even with the picture I ordered incorrectly even though it was written on the order slip we reviewed. This was the owner at the time who did this and subconsciously I haven’t ordered from them again, in a crunch I’ve picked up cake or pie from the bakery but not much. She doesn’t acknowledge customers when they walk in when she is in the front. Sometimes staff are flat not rude but overall just okay. Solid average cake 4.5 stars, customer service 2 stars. Believe it or not but Wegman’s has since satisfied our cake needs with their Ultimate line plus I bake on very special occasions.

Ordered the white cake with the raspberry for a family party this past weekend. The cake was the food hit of the weekend. Everyone just loved it. It was beautiful to look at as well. Thanks for making me look good🤗

Thank you Dessert Works! We had a Luau for our daughters 8th birthday party this past weekend. We mentioned the cupcakes were for a "Luau" and they took care of the rest. They created gorgeous themed cupcakes, perfect for a Luau!! Oh and they also tasted incredible! We will use them for every party we have moving forward, no doubt! thank you.

Just professional and perfect! Had the wedding on Sept 2019. Jacqueline patiently offered suggestion and helped us to finalize the cake. We asked to make a customized cake and they delivered exactly what we expect! Even better, we received a complementary small cute cake (the same design as the cake we ordered) as a gift from them, love it :).
