terrible customer service. me and my two sisters (mind you both of them are pregnant) had a bad experience with the smell and look of the food. We went in to ask if we can return the food and automatically the manager started getting defensive and disrespecting us as well as cussing us out till my brothers had to come out to talk to him. terrible service! UPDATE: owner replied and lied !! dont keep eating this food i guarantee you, you guys dont know how they make this food its scary!!

Had margaritas one evening and then dinner on two other nights. Really good Mexican food, with fantastic service. The actual bar is relatively small but enough different tequila options to keep yourself "occupied". The entire staff is attentive and friendly. The prices are relatively reasonable. You won't be disappointed. We even celebrated a birthday!

I enjoy coming here the food, the Guacamole is so tasty. I had the passion fruit margarita it was delicious flavor was so good. Anytime I come here with friends we always pick to eat out where the tables are to enjoy the sun and the vibes on Fed hill. Great summer spot to stop with friends and have some good drinks and food.

Another great Mexican restaurant! This one is located in the well-known Federal Hill, where you can find plenty of other excellent restaurants. I was very pleased with everything in the restaurant. The food was great, the drinks were pretty good and the service was on point. Their prices were fine for the area. I will definitely go back.

This used to be great but something has changed. It seems like all new employees that couldn’t care less about the customers. The service was horrendous.

Went here for dinner yesterday. The place was really good. They have a small outdoor section in the back where you can eat. It was quant. The food was very delicious and so were the drinks. They forgot to bring us chips and salsa, but we got a tamale, and when you order it. It's just one, I thought it would have been like 2 or 3 smaller ones. But just one big one. The quesadilla was delicious and crunch per my child. The Combo azteca was delicious, that's what I got. Great flavor. Rice was a bit dry but was very good. The meats for all the dishes have been succulent. As for the girlfriend, she got the Don Jose platter, which looked phenomenal and was just as delicious as it looked. Staff was very polite and helpful and the atmosphere was enjoyable. Overall, I would go back just to try other dishes and drinks. Great restaurant experience 👌 👍

Great spot if you’re hungry. Service is extremely fast, appetizers are great, meal portions are large, prices are reasonable and the ambiance is inviting as well.

Visiting from out of town, stopped in after opening to see what the bell was all about. At first, it was dark and gloomy, but we thought let's give it a shot. Upon ordering a frozen Patron margarita, which I thought tasted like lime water at almost 17 dollars, he charged my wife 5.99 for what she thought was subpar chips and salsa, which is typically complimentary. The money is not the point, we are both professionals in the oil and gas field, and we expect quality for what you are charging. I wish I could give this place a zero star rating.

Went to Don Jose with a friend and try ck, steak and shrimp fajita for the first time and loved. Mango margarita out this world.

I ordered slow-cooked pork, and my friend ordered Salmon. I rate pork 3 stars and salmon 5 stars. We ordered a margarita which was awesome, smooth and strong enough, I definitely will try that again. guacamole taste is so natural, they made it in front of you. lastly, the fries were extra crispy as I requested.

When your tired of Italian food when on the hill.

My family and I ordered soft steak tacos, shrimp/rice and their Caldo de Camarones and fried ice cream. All three meals come with extremely small portions of rice as well as the steak and shrimp/rice dish lacked flavor. My mom did enjoy the Caldo de Camarones so at least that was a good thing. The fried ice cream tasted as though it was nearly frostbite with the frosted flakes being very stale. Our waitress was nice and the ambiance was great. Overall I would give it a 2 at best. Also the passion fruit margarita and moquito were good. So maybe a 2.5 overall.

Our go-to mexican spot in Prov! We haven't tried any others but we are hesitant to as we don't think anything will compare. Love the atmosphere - cute little spot. It's on the smaller side but that makes it cozy. Love the bar & decor. The food is really good. I always get the beef burrito and they have amazing table-side guac!

15 minutes went by after being sat with no acknowledgment, even after waiters walked by to other tables. I got up and left cause if the service starts off that bad without even being approached for iced waters, imagine how the rest of the night would have gone.

Can be busy at times. Excellent food. The restaurant itself is a vibe. Waitresses are super friendly and knowledgeable. Bartender was excellent. They make their guacamole right at the table. Fresh!!

This isn’t your typical Mexican place sitting under a franchise logo. The food selections are a range of authentic dishes, served in substantial portions. It came highly recommended to us, and we found it to be well wort a repeat visit soon!

And today with my family. First it took forever for our waiter to come to our table after we were seated. We ordered waters to start my husband ordered a tea. By the time we got our drinks you can tell the ice was melted so that tells you how much longer we were waiting for them.. Next I ordered a Long Island which when received I noticed it was a lot darker than usual. I made a comment at which he apologized and I stated it was fine. Minutes later he returned and stated “ I know why it’s darker I forgot the sour mix”. Then we ordered our food at which I ordered the fajitas and when they came out they were warm not hot just like my sons steak SMH. At this point I decided to order another drink which came out better since he put the sour mix. The service was not great as far as attentiveness to the customer and the food wasn’t the best I have had better. Last but not least we asked for the check which literally it took him 5 seconds to ask if we were done paying since we were paying cash. Hmmmmm fast at asking for payment but not service. Wouldn’t recommend

This place is absolutely amazing!! Walked in for dinner and super calm and cozy atmosphere. The waitress was very nice and warned my son that the plate was very hot to not touch it!!! And the food was AMAZING!!!! So we’re the drinks. I got mango juice and quesadillas, the mango juice was very good and not too sweet, very refreshing, and the quesadillas were the best quesadillas I’ve ever had!!! The cheese was go gooey and stringy and the chicken was so good and juicy and tender!!! And it came with homemade guacamole on the side which was to die for, and dipped the quesadillas dipped in the guac was like heaven in my mouth!!!! Definitely would come back to this place again!!!!!!!

I love coming here with my friends. It’s our go to place. The entire staff is always so pleasant and full of life. Juliana was our host and it feels like fate EVERYTIME we come. The food is always divine and the margaritas keep us coming back. Yesterday it drizzled as we sat outside. The staff quickly opened up the umbrella and offered to bring everything inside. The environment was so lovely we enjoyed the remainder of our time outside in the bipolar Rhode Island weather. We always feel like family when we come. Ive been coming faithfully for 4 years and I’m always satisfied ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Credit tip-off: I ordered a meal of queso fundido and chips for pickup. I tipped $5 and left before checking my bag. Sadly, they forgot the chips ($4.50 including tax) which made it hard to eat the queso. I called in & they did tell me they would give me a refund, but it has been over a week and it STILL hasn’t shown up. Wont be eating there again.

I went with a couple friends at the end of the night . Ordered 3 mezcals without asking for the price. The check was for 120 ish . My card was charged for 153.00 . The restaurant staff added $30 out of nowhere. Please asked for the drink's price before ordering and pay attention to the final credit card transaction, otherwise you will be ripped like we did.

It's Sunday night, and my husband, father-in-law, and I decided to stop in here for a drink. It was calm, the atmosphere was relaxed, and our bartender was wonderful. I love the decorations near the bars! I highly recommend!

We stopped in for margaritas and an appetizer at the bar. The margaritas were fabulous. We ordered queso and were brought chips and salsa without asking which we thought was very nice. We had the queso and it was very good. We asked for the bill and noticed we were charged $9 for a tablespoon of salsa and chips. We asked why we were charged if we didn’t ask for it and were told they assumed we would order entrees and because we didn’t, we got charged. I would’ve just appreciated that heads up before they brought it out and charged us.

I’m at loss for words , the paella 🥘 here was the best meal iv ever had in my life . the customer service was outstanding. i’m coming here every week for the rest of my life until i die just for this dish.

Steak was a hockey puck and when we asked, they said they cook all their steaks well done (we didn't get a choice) mind you this is a $28 plate. Next our more than $50 pitcher only gave me and my wife 1 and a quarter drinks and to top that off it came in a filthy pitcher (which the wait staff was reluctant to give us sanitary pitcher to drink from). We would have been better off buying two drinks each. By the time we told the wait staff the food was a hockey puck and sent it back they threw it out so we couldn't even take our whole (hockey puck) steak that we had to pay for home to feed our dog. THAT WE STILL PAID $28 FOR. (mind you it is a "Mexican" restaurant). My son's chicken tenders came out so fried that the insides were that deep yellow. Worst service and food I have had in providence hands down, I never write google reviews but even two days later I am still upset. Please save your time and money and go somewhere with real Mexican food and decent drinks. This was the worst excuse for a restaurant in Providence. Just close your doors.

What an amazing experience. First time there, the environment was very welcoming. Drinks were beyond great, definitely recommend. Food fantastic, and the best part was our waitress, hostess was so friendly and amazing she made our night an even better one. Will be back again soon.

Second experience in this restuarant and they did not disappoint

Pleasant, cozy, atmosphere. Service was good. But that's where it ends... The overpriced margaritas were mostly juice with minimal tequila. I had to buy an additional straight shot just to compensate. The carne asada was tough and overcooked, and they never asked me how I wanted it done. The entire dish was unseasoned and bland. They skimp on portions like beans and rice, leaving you still hungry when you leave. Major disappointment overall. I won't be going back.

Amazing food in my somewhat limited experience. Best tableside guac and Mezcal Marg I've ever had honestly. It was busy on a Friday night but not too loud. Can't comment on the parking as I Ubered, but I think that might be a downside to the location. Would've ordered half the menu if my gf didn't get drunk off the blue new years margarita in the first 20min lol

Okay, so after we went to go see Disney On Ice, my sister says she knows this restaurant on Federal Hill called Don Jose's. I said, never heard of the place, but I'll check it out. We all piled into our cars and made our way there. I had never heard of the place before the afternoon of December 30, 2022, and I will definitely be going back. Why? Two words: STEAK TACOS. They came in the soft shells, and the steak was cooked just right. Mom ordered the mussels, and I'm guessing she liked them, because all I saw on her plate when she was done was a pile of empty shells. The chips and guacamole were the perfect appetizer, too. I never really had guacamole before, but this stuff was sooo darn good!! And it cones in the stone bowl, too. Now if I could just come up with a good excuse to come back and get some more, that'd be great.

Our party of six had lunch at Don Jose Tequilas Restaurant yesterday and it was terrific. The guacamole is made at the table and it was incredible! I enjoyed the chimichanga burrito and everyone else in our party enjoyed their meals and drinks. Don Jose is a must stop the next time I'm in Federal Hill!

The best Mexican you're gonna find in Rhode Island. The service is wonderful. The food is solid. Doesn't compare to the west coast but for RI this is a very good option. There's parking specifically for this place on a side street right next to the restaurant. Prices are high for this kind of food but the rent on Federal Hill probably makes them have to charge more. It's also one of the only decent places where the kitchen stays open a little later. Ambience is dimly lit too so you can be ugly if you want to eat your tacos without judgment.

Food was good. Service was not. It was not crowded. The waitress disappeared into the back. She was not attentive. Once we ordered didn't see her. I had to ask another waitress for the bill.

The manager at this establishment was very rude. We had a party of 3. We were waiting on our third person but were still seated. The manager comes up to us & asks us to move to a two seat table which is when we explained that we had a third person coming. The manager then says well you can sit at the bar since your party isn't here you shouldn't have been given a table. Sit at the bar & when the other person gets here we'll seat you. First of all, our third person was outside parking. You didn't bother to ask if it would be long you just told us to go sit at the bar. Second of all, you did it for a party of 5 that had just gotten in & mentioned you had a lot of reservations & were busy like that was our problem. We came in to have food. You sat us down & after we're situated & comfortable you rudely demanded we move. That's not how you treat patrons. I will never recommend, order or eat here again. I've never felt so offended and singled out in a place I'm PAYING to be at.

People love the margaritas here. You can get them blended. Mango has been the best flavor I’ve tried so far. Ranchera has great seasoning and is probably my favorite thing here. The meat was a bit fatty considering that it was like $25 for the plate. It was on the smaller side in my opinion, considering the price. Margarita was ok. It’s just not for me here BUT all my friends etc LOVE it here so it’s just a me problem. Everyone always says this is like their favorite place and I just think it’s okay. The service is slow every time i come but this last time they were packed so that’s our fault for coming when they’re busy but you have to like wave over a waiter for any attention usually. Even if it isn’t busy.

Went to this location because it was the first location recommended to me by a local as I passed through Providence. The enchiladas were okay quality, and the service was overall attentive, but WAY overpriced for what I purchased and the amount of food given to me. There are many other places I have tried in Providence that provide much better quality and amount of food for the $22 price I paid at this location.

The place is great but the service is awful . The team is not organized at all, we have to wait in the Hostess stand for about 10 mnts for no reason , employees speaking about their personal life, our waiter was rude. Come here if you want attitude spending your own money . Our waiter make a mistake in my order stating my food was not hot so I could not have it also forgot my mom’s order after 20 mnts when we asked then, he brought her food , when we asked to adjust the bill we were told there was not any manager on duty able to do so and the waiter said you already paid for it , 3 people came by trying to say something so embarrassing no one could do anything and the excuse provided was that lately many people complaint about same thing (Alert: that is something else , lol) and last waiter said do what you got to do (poor customer service), Sad.. I just notice all bad reviews , stay away of this place it’s a mess

Hostess seated me at the bar. Sat there for 20 minutes and no one came by to take an order or anything. Walked out and ate at the Oyster Bar down the street. Great food there, can't say about this place.

i had an awful time here when i used to love this place. took forever to get seated when there were plenty of seats and waitresses. finally got seated, and took 10/15 mins for a waitress to even come to my table. i asked for a passion fruit juice and my waitress got me a margarita.. didn’t card me.. i don’t drink alcohol. i then ordered steak quesadillas, and received fajitas.. so had to wait while my boyfriend ate his food. whole night was garbage. horrible service and messed up my whole entire order. i didn’t get to speak to a manager or receive an apology or compensation. was definitely not worth the $70 and 20% tip. never again.

First time at this restaurant. We got there only 2 tables had customers. They sat us down nobody came to the table yo ask us what we would like to drink. We waited 15 minutes still nobody acknowledged us. We got up and asked the girls that sat us who was too busy gossiping with her co workers iif anyone was going to serve us and she acted dumb like she was surprised. We left, never stepping foot in there again. LOUSY SERVICE, NEVER GOING BACK. This place is so awful that they don't even acknowledge any of the reviews. Came to TERRA LUNA CAFE, GREAT SERVICE, GREAT FOOD

Stopped in for some appetizers and drinks. Have absolutely no complaints about either. The food appeared authentic, was reasonably priced (even for Federal Hill), and tasted great. The only downside is that they offered outdoor seating to us, which we assumed would be in the front on the street, but they then took us around back to an overcrowded little spot in the back parking lot immediately adjacent to a bathroom. It was not ideal seating. I'd recommend making a reservation or just sitting inside.

Stopped in here during an off time on a Sunday and it was just okay. Restaurant is decorated very cute and is in a great location on Federal Hill. Had to wait a few minutes at the host stand before someone came out to seat us. Noticed as we were eating that other people coming in also had to wait for the host to seat them, as he was in the back of the restaurant not out front. Our waitress was friendly, but never brought us the two waters we asked for. Food and margaritas were good, and came out quickly, but truly was nothing special and was a lot more expensive than other Mexican food I’ve had. Probably would not come back.

Great Mexican with easy parking in the rear

This is a cute little Mexican restaurant in Federal Hill. The ambiance was everything expected and decorated lively. I had two big margaritas and upgraded to top shelf tequila but felt they were lacking a bit and didn't feel fuzzy even though they tasted great. I ordered the Chicken Quesadilla which was great. I saw a couple orders of Portuguese style mussels come out and decided to order those... they were delicious but I paid for it a couple hours later and had food poisoning bad.I do not think this was the restaurant's fault, I may have eaten one mussel that didn't open up during the cooking process and didn't realize it when I was eating them. I would go back and give it another try. The service was great and attentive. On street parking is available. Everything I ate was flavorful and delicious.

Literally THE most expensive place I've ever been to. $18 for one dish, $24 for another dish. $7.50 for two rice waters. $11 for an appetizer. The portion size for the main dishes was ridiculously small. The pork was watery and the whole dish was warm and not hot. In the end, the total came out to $78. Complete rip-off. I'll never go there again. I'd rather go to Taco Bell.
