Hands down the best wines we enjoyed in Napa. The experience was different. Very low key. We had a private room. 2 of us and one guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable and took us out to the vineyard to taste the grapes. Best part is that they actually credit your tasting towards purchases. There’s no reason not to walk away with bottles that you can’t get anywhere else. We will actually be joking this club. Must visit if near Napa

So full disclosure, we really weren't the biggest fans of Napa. Most of the wineries we went to were either too overpriced, snobby, corporate or all of the above. Hendry, was one of the few exceptions. After sharing our experience with another couple we met in the area, they told us we had to come here and it absolutely did not disappoint. We absolutely adored our tasting here. One of the few family owned wineries in the area, it showed in both their warmth as hosts and in the quality of their wines. We loved everything about this place (and their wine). In addition, the scenery is truly stunning! I cannot recommend this vineyard enough. A true gem in Napa Valley!

Myself and my wife visited during a trip to Napa to do some tasting at a few wineries back in September 2023. We had an absolutely amazing time and Skip was friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the vineyards history and wines we were tasting. It had a lovely, more family run, feel to it and Hendry was definitely our favourite winery of the ones we visited. We will definitely have to visit again next time we’re over in the States.

In a region filled with large names (and larger prices), Hendry puts out some of the most amazing wines in the region for very reasonable prices! Had a lovely personal tasting experience with T. Trust me, if you’re deciding on where to go in the region, you will not be disappointed with this small, family estate winery!

It was my first wine tasting experience and I must thank Skip from Hendry wines for making it super special for me and my husband. The overall experience was very personalised and not rushed, very detailed/informative. Skip walked us through the history of the Hendry family and their winery business in an engaging manner. We were also honoured to meet the master wine maker/owner Mr.George Hendry. With a lot of other wineries around the Napa area commercialising the wine tasting business, Hendry’s is among the very few wineries out there that make every penny worth spending. The best part is they waive the tasting fee if you purchase a wine that is equal to or more than the fee. Love, Sakshi and Sandeep

I cannot say enough about hendry. WOW This was the 6th winery we visited in Napa and by far, the best. Skip is the person you want serving. All the wines are delicious. I especially loved their 7 &22 Zin. They go super hard telling you about the winery and George who runs the place. Ultimately i was left with the most positive happy vibes. The wine was delicious and the company was excellent. I normally am the type of person to prefer to taste the wines and be left alone but this place totally changes my mind. EXCEPTIONAL

Hendry is by far the best tasting that we had while in Sonoma & Napa. Gregg who lead our tasting was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. At other tastings we felt like everything was scripted and inorganic, but we had such a personalized and intimate experience at Hendry. While tastings are not as much about quantity, I will say that we also got to try a lot more wine for the money, both in variety and quantity. They also waive the tasting fee with a purchase equal to the per person fee. Which essentially means you double your value. All that to say we were very impressed. Thank you Gregg for an amazing experience!

Something to be aware of: this winery is by reservation only. Didn’t get to taste any wines. The person there was very nice but couldn’t accommodate us. Disappointing after a 30-minute drive. The reviews on Google and TripAdvisor don’t specify that you need reservations…lessons learned: check the website to see if reservations are required since the Google or TripAdvisor reviews may not mention that. More wineries are offering experiences like this over the “drop in and taste some wine” model. Will definitely try them again next time I’m in the area.

Best wine tour / education session I have ever experienced at a winery. Most winery tours are really wine tastings. By the end of our time there we had a much better understanding of the vintner's art and science. From selection of grape variety based on soil, light and access to water. Choosing the perfect time to harvest. Sorting the harvest and wine production. We left with a much better appreciation of all that goes into making a vineyard work and produce wines at the highest level of quality. The Hendry experience is excellent so book ahead.

I came here with a group of coworkers for a work offsite and partook in some wine tasting at Hendry's. The property itself was gorgeous and the cabin where we had the wine tasting was so quaint and cute. Our tasting guide was also extremely knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. However, since it was our first time wine tasting, a lot of the jargon and vocabulary was lost on us. We asked her to dum it down a little bit so we could understand her explanations. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to adjust and continued pontificating as if we were all wine connoisseurs. But overall the experience was still vey good. I would come back again. Oh, and I appreciated that they gave each person a spit cup! I personally have the lowest tolerance of anyone I know and get a severe allergic reaction if I drink too much. So that cup saved me from having to drive home beet-red...

I absolutely love this winery. We read about it in a guide and it happened to be near where we were staying, so we thought we'd give it a try. We turned up early without an appointment in the morning and luckily they happened to have two spaces for their 11am tasting event. We were warmly greeted by Tamara and she was an amazing hostess throughout - happy, funny, and light hearted. She made everyone in the group (3 pairs of strangers) feel comfortable together. The tasting was one of the best I've ever had across Sonoma, Napa and Hunter Valley (Australia). Very informative, fun, interesting and approachably scientific. Tamara really knows her stuff (about wines and the winery history), even though this was only the second tasting event for the winery. It is a great way to learn more about wine and wine tasting - especially those new to it. Even as someone who has done a fair few tastings, I left having learnt more! Their wines were impressive too - I love their oaked Chardonnay, the pinot noir, and the zinfandel and primitivo were decent too. The rose and albariño weren't for me though. The $30/person fee includes 8 different wines and is waived if you buy an equivalent amount in wine (as of June 2019) I highly recommend a visit if you can!!

The best value experience in all of Napa-Sonoma has to be their Wine Seminar! The owner, George Hendry, gives a personal guided tour of the wine-making process where he explains everything from the soil to the last sip of a bottle. An incredibly intelligent man with several advanced degrees and research into how people actually taste food, he was able to explain complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner. I consider myself moderately educated on wine, but I was still able to learn a considerable amount during the 3 hour tour! The seminar includes tasting of 8 or so fabulous wines that rival all the other great wine producers in the region. During the tasting he presents an in-depth experience to show how the wines differ and to explain what is happening biochemically when you taste the wine. It's exact and scientific without being too over the top if you don't have a strong science background (and if you do, he can certainly talk at that level as well!). The seminar was $75 a person, but the fee is waived with an equivalent purchase of wine. I thought the tour was well worth it on its own, but I was more than happy to bring some wine back to give my friends at home the 2 cent version of his tasting experience! It was the most enjoyable thing we did while we were in Napa-Sonoma, and I'd easily recommend it to anyone and everyone!

Great place for serious wine enthusiasts who are looking to learn and try new wines! - George - he seems a bit quiet and boring at first, but he's got a ton of energy and intelligence about creating wine. Throw anything at him and he fires back with awesome answers. - Perfect date/get-away spot - it's exclusive to about 8-12 people. They even rejected people that were trying to drop in. I respect that. - Fee = $20 - Free if you buy equivalent in wine. That's easy. I highly recommend the Zinfendel + Cabernets - 12 wine tastings + free crackers - you can get very buzzed from 12 tastings if you're not careful - 2.5 hour tour - filled with the whole history + creation of wine I am in no way a wine expert, but I enjoy learning about wine. This is a great place to stop by in Napa. I chose this over touristy spots with trams and caverns. Why? It's exclusive, respectful, and you learn a ton.

This was the first winery of the last day of 2017, our 7th visited overall. The reason why I selected this one was because of the impressive (almost perfect) Yelp reviews. I had never heard about this wine before, when we call to make the appointment they said that it should last around 3 hours. So we arrived at 10AM sharp, Mr. Hendry was entering too. The great thing about this place is how relaxing it’s and the personal touch by the owner himself. The wines are quite good, I didn’t liked the un-oak Chardonnay, and not so much the Zinfandel because it’s too sweet for my palate. But the oak Chardonnay, the RED (blend) and the Cabernet were above average to very good. Mr. Hendry takes an enormous time explaining the winemaking process as well as answering questions. If you are planning to do the private tasting/tour I suggest you to write down a few questions you may have so you don’t forget when you get immersed into this storyteller vintner! My downsides are; 1 – It would have been really nice to be greeted with a glass of chardonnay or any other white wine to cover the first hour of the visit while walking through the fermentation room, barrel room, etc. 2 – A little cheeses will be nice, they can even charge something extra for it. Here are my rating to all visited wineries by alphabetical order, for details on each one look for my reviews: Services – Quality of Wine – Overall Alpha Omega 5 5 5 Darioush 5 5 5 Duckhorn 1 3 2 Hendry Vineyard 5 4 4 Joseph Phelps 5 5 5+ Merryvale 5 4 5 Merus 5 5 5+ Ovid 5 5 5 Paraduxx 4 3 4 Rombauer 5 4 5+ Silver Oak 5 4 5 I do recommend coming here to learn the basics of winemaking and ask many questions, but be ready because Mr. Hendry is a neurology and he likes to study you while the tasting is going, so he direct everything from when to drink, the order to when to eat some crackers they served…

The winery tour is by far the best I've ever had. They do almost everything from growing grapes to bottling, and the folks giving the tours are not hired help, they are the owners. The owners are scientists and engineers and can tell you everything from soil chemistry to the price of oak aging, etc. It was an eye-opening view into the world of wine. My wife and I attended the seminar tour, and it was just that. We learned more in 3 hours than we have learned in our lives. This experience puts you in a small group that tours the winery with the owner. Not many places do that! He teaches you the aspects of what makes a good wine and why that $50 bottle is priced the way it is. At the end of the tour is a tasting of 8-9 wines, in which he teaches you in detail why the wines taste the way they do. In addition, he also tells you how to properly pair items with food to make your food and wine taste at their best. If you thought you knew what to do before being taught here, you are likely mistaken or at least not fully aware. The wine itself is certainly delicious, maybe not the best we have had for the price, but close. This owner loves his craft so much that he works a regular job on top of his wine making to subsidize the vineyards, especially in tough times. His love for the craft shows in the wine and the learning experience of the tour. This is a must stop location for anyone visiting napa.

Our first stop and it couldn't have been a better place to start. Our group learned so much in the tour and tasting and we have all been drinking wine for a while. The Zin was excellent and the whites were crisp. A great place to visit.

We didn't take the tour, but this was the most informative tasting we have ever attended. And it was fun. Wines were good and quite inexpensive. $18-$35 range. Very drinkable now. If you thought wine pairings with certain foods was by tradition, you will be amazed by the genetics and biochemistry involved. We learned a lot and enjoyed the lessons. Reservations are required and don't show up late.

All around, best winery experience we had in Napa. It's difficult to put into words the feeling of knowledge you get when touring the estate with Jeff. We visited the Ranch on a nearly perfect day in early March, and were taken back by the education and warm welcome we received. It's very clear that Hendry is driven by passion. When you find out that two of the individuals that play a large role in the operations of the Ranch build Cyclotrons (Particle Accelerators) as a day job - the ultimate fusion of old world traditions and new world engineering is exposed. I won't ruin the tour for anyone, but they did two things that we didn't experience any other place. The tasting at the end of the tour included all wines they had available (we tasted 11 wines), and they used olive oil to simulate "Fat" in a steak and showed the group how they heavier Cabernet Sauvignon changed after you ate a cracker with olive oil on it. It was truly an eye-opening experience for our table. Joined their wine club, not because of the amazing tour or the fantastic people...but because they had the best tasting Cab Sauv and Red Bordeaux Blend we had the pleasure of trying. Don't miss it.
