The Best Soul Food you can get from Slidell to Baton Rouge, unless you stop by my mom house....

Don’t judge a book by its cover. The place might look rough on the outside, but you don’t know what is waiting inside!!! Great food! I had red beans and rice with smothered turkey wings, corn bread and potato salad. So Potato salad was simply made. Not too much mayonnaise not too much relish, just the right amount of ingredients to make a refreshing potato salad. Corn bread was good, had a nice bottom crust and fluffy. Red beans and rice with smothered turkey was one of the best I’ve ever had. The best I had was my mom’s but this was very close to mom’s cooking. The only thing that I wasn’t happy about was the temperature in the dining room. Maybe the A/C broke down but it was warm in there. Besides that, I highly recommend this place!

The food was a little to stringy and slimmy I had Smorthered Okra with shrimp and smoked sausage with a piece of blue crab broken on the side over rice, deep fried porkchop which was great to taste and perfectly fried and the best Sweet Tea in Louisiana

Delicious, affordable food served up by friendly staff at a great little Mom and Pop restaurant. Daily changing specials means there's always something for everyone. Fried chicken and the various options for red beans and rice are my go to. This place should definitely be on your list when coming & going from the airport.

They noted this place as cash only. Be prepared for a 30 minute wait as they prepare your order fresh. The red beans and rice were perfectly seasoned. Super awesome flavor. The chicken was juicy with a great crust. The menu has lots to choose from, so next time, I'll dine in. Get there early as they were out of potato salad, mac & cheese, and greens. Skip the fried and I was not a fan of the cornbread. I think the food would taste better if eaten at the restaurant. If you are looking for an authentic atmosphere, good customer service, and good eats, then this place is definitely worth a try.

Phenomenal homemade food. The fried chicken was moist and the breading was so flavorful. It was fried after we ordered. The red beans and rice were outstanding. The young lady who took our order was so friendly and has a great smile. I think she mentioned it was her family's resteraunt. She explained the whole menu to us. This was a great start to our trip after landing in New Orleans.

Hurst had been my go to place for years in the past. Some years had passed since I visited them up until recently.. Let me tell yall,honestly,the last 3 visits all of my food was top notch. The first time I had the shrimp poboy,the second time the red beans w/fried pork chop,and the third time smothered pork chops w/rice gravy and corn bread..I highly recommend this place..I may go today and probably more often since I rarely cook these days..Best soul food in Kenner since been

OH MY GOODNESS. You could go to a 5 star soul food restaurant and never have food this amazingly flavorful and perfectly cooked. Beyond excellent. Amazing!!!! We stopped after a swamp tour and were clearly looking like tourists, and the service was some of the best I have ever had - one of the ladies (maybe the owner) came and told us how to eat everything, brought extra gravy and sauces to try, turned down the fan to make us more comfortable, and just was the nicest and sweetest person you could imagine. Don't miss this one!!!! Get the greens they are heaven!! My sister had a fried fish po boy and I don't even like fried fish or po boys and I devoured the last few bites when she got too full. So fantastic!!

I eat at Hurst at least 2 or 3 times a year. I am a foodie especially a soul food one and they never EVER disappoint. The tea is so good. Don’t drink it too fast though bc they don’t offer refills

They have the best southern home cooked soulfood in the city..definitely recommend ! White beans and fried chicken were amazing.The smothered turkey wings are also good.

My Grandmother has brought me here since I was a little girl...I'm now 43 years old and bringing my Grandmother to lunch full circle decades later. The FOOD is still ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS just like back in the day!! I recommend everyone who loves REAL home cooked SOUL FOOD to visit this restaurant!

The food here was great! I had the bbq ribs and they fell off the bone. The sauce was great. Their collard greens are amazing!!! The portion was great for the price and the staff was really friendly! The service was great too. They are cash only, that’s not an issue, just a heads up. Would definitely recommend.

Chicken was good but beans was ordinary. The cake was good but over priced if you ask me. The sweet lemon tea was delicious. Won't be going back because of the distance. Overall the food was basic

Modest place that serves really great classic soul and comfort food. Nothing fancy. With really great service. My biggest complaint is the air conditioning just can't keep up and it's been uncomfortable to eat inside when it's hot outside

Pretty Good ordered to Take Out..

Some hot food and a warm smile can make any day better. I stopped in for some lunch before my flight home. Soul food takes time, and I know this. I didn't give myself enough time and had to rush through my meal. Still, everything was delicious! I got the smothered ribs plate with some greens. It hurt my heart to not be able to take my leftovers with me. But I will definitely be back! Everything was amazing Thanks! ❤️💛💚 Update 8/1/23 I cannot speak enough on how amazing the folks are here! I gave myself some more time this visit, and still couldn't finish the enormous amount of food that i had. Meatloaf over rice, and greens. Everyone is so nice, and truly make me feel welcome. I was looking forward to my revisit as soon as I found out that I was returning to New Orleans. Come get some amazingly delicious food, cooked with love. Your belly, your soul, and your wallet won't regret it.

Me and my three sisters was coming off of vacation in Vegas we decided to stop in New Orleans and get something my sister Denise picked up on this little restaurant oh my God this service is so peaceful the food is like your mom is sending grandmother's I would recommend it to everybody my hat goes off to you guys and also the waitress was divine pleasant we enjoyed ourselves we will return thank you guys and God blessings 🙏🙏🙏🙏

I started going to Hurst as a kid with my dad. Then, I introduced my son to Hurst. When I can't cook, I let Hurst do the cooking for me. It's the same cost as fast food, it's healthier and the food is ALWAYS good!

First time visiting excellent food

I'm always looking for good food and had been searching for soul food restaurants in my area. I got the baked chicken with red beans/rice and a side of cabbage. This food did not disappoint. It was fresh and perfectly seasoned.

Hadn't experienced Hurst since pre covid. I was ecstatic to see they were open. The food tasted like it was made with love and the prices were affordable. I needed that in my life. I will be back Currently there is only take out. No indoor seating just yet.

Omg The gravy she makes is so good and the potato salad is my favorite. My suggestion if it’s your 1st time is the smothered rib plate with potato Salad and green beans and please don’t forget to ask for the delicious tea that they serve.

Food is very good I eat here at least once every two weeks. On Thursday meal I had the Turkey wing plate with the ends. No meat.

The sweetest and kindest staff and the most incredible soul food I’ve ever had. I couldn’t decide between the fried chicken/red beans and rice or the shrimp po’ boy so I got both.

I had to move away, but I miss you so much! Never have I ever had better food in all my travels! Your dark meat and greens I dream about with some rice and gravy! Oh and the corn bread dear heavenly Jesus your corn bread!! I’m drooling as I type about it! I google maps you constantly just to make sure your still there! I will see you again. Located conveniently near the airport, we stopped in after we landed. The smothered steak was tender, and the rice and gravy were delicious! I'd definitely visit there again. They also have a beautiful juke box, if you'd like to hear some soulful tunes.

My husband had the red beans and fried chicken. I have never seen him eat an entire meal at one time but he did that time. Today l had greens and smothered pork chops and it did not disappoint. The prices are very reasonable. Cash only. Quiet setting. Very diverse repeat customers.
